Earlier I asked this question, which basically asked how to list 10 winners in a table with many winners, according to their points. This was answered. Now I'm looking to search for a given winner X in the table, and find out what position he is in, when the table is ordered by points. For example, if this is the table: Winners: NAME:____|__POINTS: Winner1 | 1241 Winner2 | 1199 Sally | 1000 Winner4 | 900 Winner5 | 889 Winner6 | 700 Winner7 | 667 Jacob | 623 Winner9 | 622 Winner10 | 605 Winner11 | 600 Winner12 | 586 Thomas | 455 Pamela | 434 Winner15 | 411 Winner16 | 410 These are possible inputs and outputs for what I want to do: Query: "Sally", "Winner12", "Pamela", "Jacob" Output: 3 12 14 623 How can I do this? Is it possible, using only a MySQL statement? Or do I need PHP as well? This is the kind of thing I want: WHEREIS FROM Winners WHERE Name='Sally' LIMIT 1 Ideas?

Jasper Reports Crosstab Query

I'm using Jasper Reports/iReports crosstabs to create a matrix of student and results. So for example Jim is doing subjects A, B, C and Sally is doing A, C What I want is something like: Subj-A Subj-B Subj-C Jim P M D Sally D D But as my SQL orders by name then subject I get: Subj-A Subj-B Subj-C Subj-A Subj-C Jim P M D Sally D D As you can see in the above the results are correct but the formatting is woeful. Is there anyway I can generate the reports to use names and subject only once and filling in the values from here? This probably isn't clear.

Obtaining MAC address

According to Obtain client MAC address in ASP.NET Application, it is not possible. I am not entirely convinced because whenever I connect to Tim Hortons WiFi, my MAC address is known. Occasionally, the network is slow and I see this URL like this before being redirected to the Connect page: http://timhortonswifi.com/cp/tdl3/index.asp ?cmd=login &switchip=172.30.129.73 &mac=60:6c:66:17:1a:83 &ip=10.40.66.229 &essid=Tim%20Hortons%20WiFi &apname=TDL-ON-NEP-02177-WAP1 &apgroup=02177 &url=http%3A%2F%2Fweather%2Egc%2Eca%2Fcity%2Fpages%2Fon-72_metric_e%2Ehtml So according to this URL, the site knows the IP address of the router, my MAC address, the IP address assigned to my device by the router, the network SSID, some other pieces of information, and the URL I was trying to access prior to connecting. There's two options: Tim Hortons WiFi Basic and Tim Hortons WiFi Plus, where the "Plus" option allows me to connect to any Tim Hortons WiFi access point in Canada automatically with this device. Registration requires an email address, so I'm assuming this is possible by checking the MAC address and storing it in a database that routers ping upon connection. More info here. According to the extension of this page, I can safely assume it is ASP. How are they obtaining this information?

Using python to play two sine tones at once

I'm using python to play a sine tone. The tone is based off the computer's internal time in minutes, but I'd like to simultaneously play one based off the second for a harmonized or dualing sound. This error occurred on our TFS2008 build server which we had upgraded to cater for VS2010 projects (by installing VS2010 on the build server - see this article). Error MSB4019: The imported project "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the <Import> declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk. However - although we had installed VS2010 on the build server - we had not installed the web development components (Visual Web Developer) - this is what caused the error. To fix - simply add the web development components: Go into Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs Select Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, and click on Change/Remove In the VS Maintenance Mode screens, select Add or Remove Features In the Setup - Options page make sure 'Visual Web Developer' is checked. Click on Update. You shouldn't need to restart your build service. HTH Tim

updater stuck on downloading python files

However i am a java programmer is consider myself as a linux noob. So i could use a little help here... I am trying to update my ubuntu from version 10.04 to 12.04.1 (LTS). The downloading start and runs at around 10MB/s untill i am somewhere near 26% and the speed just drops to 0. I figured i could use the command "do-release-update" so i could see what it was doing. Again the same occured: the downloading stucked on 26% at "http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubunutu/ precise/main python-qt4 1386 4.9.1-2ubuntu1". It says it downloaded 41% of that file/package. It also tries another wget on the same file every X seconds. Help? Greetings Tim, Holland.

Part of the launcher has been cut off, Ubuntu 12.04

After a hard drive failure on my iMac, I replaced it and installed Ubuntu. So far, I am finding it very easy to use, however there is one problem which is making it much harder. The bottom of the launcher is missing - it is 'covered' by the desktop background. This means that I cant see the trash, or bottom few icons. Even if I scroll, it doesn't show it. Any help is very much appreciated. If you send a message to [email protected], with the subject "launcher photo", I will send you an email with the photo of the missing part attached. Currently, my only fix is to enable and then disable the extra screen it thinks is there - called unknown device

Sortable Accordion Modified to Implement More On Click However New Levels Will Not Expand

The reason why I am asking for help now is that I don't have a clue why my newly added accordion(s) do not expand upon being clicked. I've got a feeling it may be due to the newly added code as I was having problems using my code in the file so instead I looked at the source and copied the accordion level to be used and all appears to look fine apart from them not expanding. On-line Based Conferencing For Admin Panel

Working on my admin panels work station section which will allow the admin to use simple office tools such as word editors, calculators and whatnot. Under this section of the admin panel, I would like to add a conferencing feature which will allow any administrator to connect with another administrator 1-2-1 under the 1-2-1 Conferencing section, or to join a meeting under 'live meeting' section. Upon my search for on-line based, I found there are all these, what seem to be great applications out there, however not all of them are on-line based, and come with a price! I would like to a purely on-line based conferencing/meeting/1-2-1 feature which will allow administrators to communicate via text or sound, stream their video, share their screen and sending of files. I know this sounds like a big feature, and I am not asking for someone to answer by programming one for my website! Does anyone know my best solution to progress to having this feature on my website, any tutorials or free to use, free to modify web plugins? Thank you for your help, Best Regards, Tim

This actions drop down I would like to have an action to 'Enable Editing'. Upon clicking to enable editing, I would like a PHP variable modified from 'EnableEditing = false' to 'EnableEditing = true'. Why I would like to use PHP maybe questionable, here is why I would like to use PHP under my understanding to clarify; Sections on my page will show to different administrators depending on their level. Upon enabling editing mode, certain contents will then dynamically. <?php if ($_SESSION['user_level_status'] < 2) { if ($editing = enabled) { show this } else { show this } } ?> Something similar to this, I'm new at PHP so this may look incorrect. Access to File being restricted after Ubuntu crashed

My Ubuntu 8.10 crashed due to the overheating problem of the CPU when I am opening some directory and intend to do some file transfer under Nautilus. After reboot, under gnome, all the files cannot be removed, their properties cannot be viewed and they can only be opened, although all are still fine under terminal. I was wondering why is that and how can I fix it? BUILD 2013 Session–What’s New In XAML

Tim Heuer proceeded to try to fit as many of the changes and additions to XAML as he could in one hour. There were a number of improvements that struck me. The first was the fact that we no longer need to put stack panels in the AppBar in order to add buttons. This has been changed to a CommandBar which at the very least makes the markup read more cleanly. Now if they would just bring this same improvement to Windows Phone we would be set. There was a lot of cheering at the beginning of his talk when he showed that there are now date time pickers. I understand that it makes life easier, but I just couldn’t get that excited. The couple of features that did grab my attention being able to select a group of tags and then add an encapsulating tag such as a StackPanel around them and the fact that they have optimized XAML so that now runs on average 25% faster. How to start gnome-shell?

I successfully installed the gnome 3 gnome-shell from the launchpad ppa on my fully updated Natty test system. However, nothing I tried could get it to actually run. If I selected it in the startup options, I got a plain light blue screen with absolutely nothing on it. If I tried to start it using "gnome-shell --replace", I got: gnome-shell --replace & [2] 3251 tim@nattytest:/usr/lib$ Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/gnome-shell", line 705, in normal_exit = run_shell() File "/usr/bin/gnome-shell", line 293, in run_shell if shell is None: UnboundLocalError: local variable 'shell' referenced before assignment /usr/bin/compiz (core) - Error: Screen 0 on display ":0.0" already has a window manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current window manager. [2]+ Exit 1 gnome-shell --replace I also tried preceding that with metacity --replace, as suggested at ubuntuforums.com. But, I got the same failure. I also linked /usr/lib/libmozjs.so to /usr/lib/xulrunner-2.0b12/libmozjs.so, which did not help either. No matter what I try, I get the same error messages. Thanks.

As a small business about to overhaul infrastructure and go virtual, how can we take advantage of all the features of the QNAP TS-439 Pro II+?

Specifically, how can we benefit from these current list of features? We're very new to this and I want to be able to talk intelligently to our IT consultant. VMware Ready Citrix Ready Built-in iSCSI target service Virtual Disk Drive (via iSCSI Initiator) Remote Replication Multi-LUN per Target LUN Mapping & LUN Masking Support SPC-3 Persistent Reservation Support What other products should we compare this QNAP to? I appreciate how informative the site is, but they only seem to sell their products through a small number of channels. Is QNAP well known? TIA!

Amazon EC2 - how to determine how busy each CPU is

I have an Amazon EC2 micro instance. I believe that this is 1 core (or 2 for periodic bursts) with 4 CPU's. I'm getting confused with the terminology (ECU vs CPU vs Core) but really I would like to see how busy each CPU is. When I look at top it seems to be showing me just the cores. I want to see if my process is be spread out across the available processors and how busy each is, what is the appropriate command to do this?
