  • Tomcat 7 on Ubuntu 12.04 with JRE 7 not starting

    - by Andreas Krueger
I am running a virtual server in the web on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS / 32 Bit. After a clean install of JRE 7 and Tomcat 7, following the instructions on http://www.sysadminslife.com, I don't get Tomcat 7 up and running. > java -version java version "1.7.0_09" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 23.5-b02, mixed mode) > /etc/init.d/tomcat start Starting Tomcat Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/local/tomcat Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/local/tomcat Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/local/tomcat/temp Using JRE_HOME: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle Using CLASSPATH: /usr/local/tomcat/bin/bootstrap.jar:/usr/local/tomcat/bin/tomcat-juli.jar > telnet localhost 8080 Trying ::1... Trying 127.0.0.1... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused netstat sometimes shows a Java process, most of the times not. If it does, nothing works either. Does anyone have a solution or encountered similar situations? • Update a war on Tomcat start up

    - by pater
I want to setup an update process for an application running on Tomcat. The server which hosts tomcat is only open during working hours (it is an intraner application for a small company). I was thinking that I could upload the new war to the server and set up "something" to run on the next server boot. This something could be a bat file that will be executed on server start up but before the start up of the Tomcat service and it will delete the old war and its exploded folder. When I update manually the war I also delete the work folder of Tomcat (just to be sure). I know about hot deployment but I do not consider it an option since I am not very sure for the implications it might have on the users current working sessions. Is there a way to run such a bat file before Tomcat start up or an alternative way to do this update? Tomcat version isn't an issue. Now is running Tomcat 6 but I can upgrade to version 7 if needed.

  • Running Apache and Tomcat together on different subdomains?

    - by Ritesh M Nayak
Posted this on ServerFault but didn't get a response. Hoping I will have better luck on the Ubuntu site. I have been trying to get this working the whole of today. I have a server which resolves to the domain example.com . This is running Apache2 and Tomcat 6. The requirement is to direct requests to example.com to apache2 and app.example.com to Tomcat. I know I have to do a VirtualHost proxy pass for this to work. Here are the settings on my server. /etc/hosts file looks something like this 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain example.com app.example.com I have two virtual host files for the different domains in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/example.com looks like this <VirtualHost *:80> # Admin email, Server Name (domain name) and any aliases ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost ServerName example.com ServerAlias www.example.com DocumentRoot /var/www <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ <Directory "/usr/lib/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride None Options +ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.log # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg. LogLevel warn CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access.log combined Alias /doc/ "/usr/share/doc/" <Directory "/usr/share/doc/"> Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order deny, allow Deny from all Allow from 127.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 ::1/128 </Directory> </VirtualHost> /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/app.example.com file looks like this <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName app.example.com ServerAlias www.app.example.com ProxyPreserveHost On ProxyPass / http://localhost:8080/ ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/ SetEnv force-proxy-request-1.0 1 SetEnv proxy-nokeepalive 1 </VirtualHost> mod_proxy and mod_rewrite are both enabled on the apache instance. I have a CNAME entry for both example.com and app.example.com. When accessing app.example.com, I get an 403 forbidden, saying I have no access to / on the server. What am I doing wrong?

  • Keep Xubuntu Network Manager from overwriting resolv.conf

    - by leeand00
How do I keep Xubuntu 11.10 from overwriting resolv.conf everytime I reboot my machine? Everytime I reboot, I get an overwritten resolv.conf that has the words # Generated by Network Manager and no nameservers specified. I ran the following to get rid of Network Manager, but it's still replacing my resolv.conf when I restart the machine. sudo apt-get --purge remove network-manager sudo apt-get --purge remove network-manager-gnome sudo apt-get --purge remove network-manager-pptp sudo apt-get --purge remove network-manager-pptp-gnome

  • Where is org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory for tomcat?

    - by Omnifarious
On this page: http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/jndi-resources-howto.html it describes how to set up a JNDI name for a DataSource resource. It tells you that Tomcat's standard data source factory is org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory, but I've searched every single jar file on my system after installing Tomcat on Fedora 17 and I cannot find one that contains this class. Where is it?

  • Configuring Apache with Tomcat and phpmyadmin

    - by elect
We have a server with Apache 2.4, Tomcat 7 and phpmyadmin, all of them installed by source, no repository. I connected Apache with Tomcat through the jk connector by doing: JkMount /* worker1 and I moved /phpmyadmin in the Apache DocumentRoot, but of course website/phpmyadmin will redirect me to Tomcat, but I dont want that. It works only if I comment out the JKMount line So, how can I configure Apache with Tomcat and phpmyadmin so that /* requests are forwarded to Tomcat and /phpmyadmin directly served by Apache?

  • How to get html/css/jpg pages server by both apache & tomcat with mod_jk

    - by user53864
I've apache2 and tomcat6 both running on port 80 with mod_jk setup on ubutnu servers. I had to setup an error document 503 ErrorDocument 503 /maintenance.html in the apache configuration and somehow I managed to get it work and the error page is server by apache when tomcat is stopped. Developers created a good looking error page(an html page which calls css and jpg) and I'm asked to get this page served by apache when tomcat is down. When I tried with JkUnMount /*.css in the virtual hosting, the actual tomcat jsp pages didn't work properly(lost the format) as the tomcat applications uses jsp, css, js, jpg and so on. I'm trying if it is possible to get .css and .jpg served by both apache and tomcat so that when the tomcat is down I'll get css and jpg serverd by apache and the proper error document is served. Anyone has any technique? Here is my apache2 configuration: vim /etc/apache2/apache2.conf Alias / /var/www/ ErrorDocument 503 /maintenance.html ErrorDocument 404 /maintenance.html JkMount / myworker JkMount /* myworker JkMount /*.jsp myworker JkUnMount /*.html myworker <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName station1.mydomain.com DocumentRoot /usr/share/tomcat/webapps/myapps1 JkMount /* myworker JkUnMount /*.html myworker </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName station2.mydomain.com DocumentRoot /usr/share/tomcat/webapps/myapps2 JkMount /* myworker JkMount /*.html myworker </VirtualHost>

  • Cannot ping Localhost so I can't shutdown Tomcat

    - by gav
Hi, I installed Tomcat 6 using the tar-ball via wget. Startup of the server is fine but on shutdown I get a timeout exception. root@88:/usr/local/tomcat/logs# /usr/local/tomcat/bin/shutdown.sh Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/local/tomcat Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/local/tomcat Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/local/tomcat/temp Using JRE_HOME: /usr Using CLASSPATH: /usr/local/tomcat/bin/bootstrap.jar 30-Mar-2010 17:33:41 org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina stopServer SEVERE: Catalina.stop: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(PlainSocketImpl.java:333) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(PlainSocketImpl.java:195) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:182) at java.net.SocksSocketImpl.connect(SocksSocketImpl.java:366) ... I read that this might be because I have a firewall blocking incoming connections on the shutdown port (8005). I have a default Ubuntu 9.04 installation running on a VPS with no rules in my iptables. How can I tell if that port is blocked? How can I check that the server is listening for connections on 8005? Bizarrely pinging localhost or the IP of my server fails from the server itself, whereas pinging the IP of my server from another machine succeeds. -------- EDIT -------- (In reply to Davey) Thanks for all the tips and suggestions! netstat -nlp Active Internet connections (only servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:8005 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 9611/java tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 28505/mysqld tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8080 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 9611/java tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN ... So we can see that tomcat is listening, I just don't seem to be able to reach it. root@88:/usr/local/tomcat# telnet localhost 8005 Trying 127.0.0.1... Trying to telnet to the port Hangs indefinitely. • Apache mod_jk Setting for Tomcat - workers.properties

    - by sissonb
I am trying to direct files with .jsp extensions to tomcat. Otherwise I want apache to serve the file directly (no tomcat). Currently I have a test.jsp which is supposed to create an HTML page with the current date in the body. Instead when I go to that .jsp I see the JK Status Manager. The mod_jk.logs only show, init_jk::mod_jk.c (3365): mod_jk/1.2.35 initialized. I have tomcat and apache setup on my server. Apache runs on 80 and tomcat runs on 8080. localhost:8080 show the tomcat welcome page. I downloaded tomcat-connectors-1.2.35-windows-i386-httpd-2.2.x and copied the mod_jk.so to C:\apache\modules. Then I added LoadModule jk_module modules/mod_jk.so to my httpd.conf. I restart apache and the module loads just fine. Next I downloaded the mod_jk source to get the workers.properties file. I copy workers.properties to C:\apache\confg. Then I added this user, workers.tomcat_home="C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Tomcat 7.0" workers.java_home="C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.7.0_03" worker.list=ajp13 worker.ajp13.port=8080 worker.ajp13.host=localhost worker.ajp13.type=ajp13 worker.ajp13.socket_timeout=10 When I try to use the ajp13 user in my httpd.conf I get the following error in my mod_jk.log, [Wed Mar 28 13:08:51 2012] [2196:4100] [info] ajp_connection_tcp_get_message::jk_ajp_common.c (1258): (ajp13) can't receive the response header message from tomcat, network problems or tomcat (127.0.0.1:8080) is down (errno=60) [Wed Mar 28 13:08:51 2012] [2196:4100] [error] ajp_get_reply::jk_ajp_common.c (2117): (ajp13) Tomcat is down or refused connection. • Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g is Here!

    - by chung.wu
We hope that you enjoyed the launch event. If you missed it, you may still watch it via our on demand webcast, which is being produced and will be posted very shortly. 11gR1 is a major release of Oracle Enterprise Manager, and as one would expect from a big release, there are many new capabilities that appeal to a broad set of audience. Before going into the laundry list of new features, let's talk about the key themes for this release to put things in perspective. First, this release is about Business Driven Application Management. The traditional paradigm of component centric systems management simply cannot satisfy the management needs of modern distributed applications, as they do not provide adequate visibility of whether these applications are truly meeting the service level expectations of the business users. Business Driven Application Management helps IT manage applications according to the needs of the business users so that valuable IT resources can be better focused to help deliver better business results. To support Business Driven Application Management, 11gR1 builds on the work that we started in 10g to provide better support for user experience management. This capability helps IT better understand how users use applications and the experience that the applications provide so that IT can take actions to help end users get their work done more effectively. In addition, this release also delivers improved business transaction management capabilities to make it faster and easier to understand and troubleshoot transaction problems that impact end user experience. Second, this release includes strengthened Integrated Application-to-Disk Management. Every component of an application environment, from the application logic to the application server, to database, host machines and storage devices, etc... can affect end user experience. After user experience improvement needs are identified, IT needs tools that can be used do deep dive diagnostics for each of the application environment component, analyze configurations and deploy changes. Enterprise Manager 11gR1 extends coverage of key application environment components to include full support for Oracle Database 11gR2, Exadata V2, and Fusion Middleware 11g. For composite and Java application management, two key pieces of technologies, JVM Diagnostic and Composite Application Monitoring and Modeler, are now fully integrated into Enterprise Manager so there is no need to install and maintain separate tools. In addition, we have delivered the first set of integration between Enterprise Manager Grid Control and Enterprise Manager Ops Center so that hardware level events can be centrally monitored via Grid Control. Finally, this release delivers Integrated Systems Management and Support for customers of Oracle technologies. Traditionally, systems management tools and tech support were separate silos. When problems occur, administrators used internally deployed tools to try to solve the problems themselves. If they couldn't fix the problems, then they would use some sort of support website to get help from the vendor's support staff. Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g integrates problem diagnostic and remediation workflow. Administrators can use Oracle Enterprise Manager's various diagnostic tools to begin the troubleshooting process. They can also use the integrated access to My Oracle Support to look up solutions and download software patches. If further help is needed, administrators can open service requests from right within Oracle Enterprise Manager and track status update. Oracle's support staff, using Enterprise Manager's configuration management capabilities, can collect important configuration information about customer environments in order to expedite problem resolution. This tight integration between Oracle Enterprise Manager and My Oracle Support helps Oracle customers achieve a Superior Ownership Experience for their Oracle products. So there you have it. This is a brief 50,000 feet overview of Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g. We know you are hungry for the details. We are going to write about it in the coming days and weeks. For those of you that absolutely can't wait to find out more, you may download our software to try it out today. In fact, for the first time ever, the initial release of Oracle Enterprise Manager is available for both 32 and 64 bit Linux. Additional O/S ports will arrive in the coming weeks. Please stay tuned on the Oracle Enterprise Manager blog for additional updates.

  • Hot deploying with Tomcat Manager fails because file already exists

    - by Artem
Tomcat beginner question that I hope will help many. Could someone explain how TomCat hot deploy is supposed to work. We have a currently deployed 'TomCatTest', and we want to fix a small bug in 'TomCatTest' with no downtime for users. We are using the Tomcat Manager console, and just trying to upload a file there. We must be making a stupid error, but we see: 'FAIL - War file "TomCatTest.war" already exists on server' There are many many posts suggesting this works somehow: http://serverfault.com/questions/120706/replace-single-file-on-tomcat-deployed-war http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/config/host.html#Automatic%20Application%20Deployment For the life of me, I can't figure out this simple problem. Could you help, please?

  • Adobe Coldfusion Railo OpenBD Apache Tomcat Multiple Sites

    - by chris hough
Here's what I am trying to do, unless I am crazy: I am trying to use Tomcat with the multiple workers, so far I got OpenBD working, but having trouble with Railo, and will be tackling Adobe after. each engine deployed as a war separated by different workers I wanted to keep both the sites and engines inside my sites directory I have to remap the symlink for the WEB-INF when I switch engines = have not found a way around this my thought is to have everything separated into modules and I want to be able to execute both cfm and php code in a single site.  Ideally, it would be amazing if there would be a way to not have to remap the symlink as well. thoughts? can this be done? • Tomcat memory usage grows until crash with no GC run

    - by Phil
I'm administrating a server running Tomcat that is getting a lot of traffic lately. If I monitor memory usage in Task Manager I can see the memory usage growing and eventually tomcat crashes around the 1GB mark. Here's the memory relevent bits I've set in Tomcat Properties (this is a Windows Server): Intial memory pool: 1024 MB Maximum memory pool: 1024 MB -XX:MaxPermSize=256M The weird thing is since these problems arose I've deployed Lambda Probe to the Tomcat instance and the memory usage values I see there are much lower, for example Task Manager might show 467MB used while the "Total" used in Probe is 212 MB. Also, the Maximum Total listed in Probe is 1.29GB, when I would have expected 1GB, the maximum memory set above. If I force the garbage collector to run using Probe, I can keep Tomcat from crashing for a while (indefinitely, AFAIK). So why doesn't the GC run automatically and stop Tomcat from crashing? Thanks.

Using CATALINA_HOME: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tomcat7\apache-tomcat-7.0.32" Using CATALINA_BASE: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tomcat7\apache-tomcat-7.0.32" Using JAVA_HOME: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_09" Using JRE_HOME: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_09\jre" Using JVM: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_09\jre\bin\server\ jvm.dll" However, when I try to start the service, I Get the error below: c:\Program Files (x86)\Tomcat7\apache-tomcat-7.0.32\bin>tomcat7.exe %1 is not a valid Win32 application. Failed to run service as console application This is the file I downloaded from apache: apache-tomcat-7.0.32-windows-x64.zip. I am able to successfully start tomcat on port 8080 as a standalong thing. Meaning I go to command prompt and type startup.bat and it starts up successfully. Question How can I resolve this and what are the things I should be troubleshooting for?

  • Mod_jk Tomcat VirtualHost

    - by user37143
Hi, I have two applications in Tomcat app1 and app2. I have mod_jk configured for Apache front end and I am able to get the Tomcat index.jsp Now I created two virtualhosts for app1 and app2 so that app1.domain.com will point to app1 in tomcat and app2.domain.com will point to app2 in Tomcat but it's not working. I have the Vhost as ServerName www.app1.domain.com ServerAlias app1.domain.com DocumentRoot "/opt/tomcat/webapps/app1" DirectoryIndex index.jsp Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all The following section added for Jk JkMount /.do ajp13 JkMount /.jsp ajp13 JkMount / ajp13 JkMount /* ajp13 JkUnMount /.php ajp13 JkUnMount /.gif ajp13 JkUnMount /.html ajp13 JkUnMount /.css ajp13 JkUnMount /.png ajp13 JkUnMount /.jpg ajp13 # But this did not work both the sub domains loads Tomcat's index.jsp. Can some one help me? Thanks

  • embedded tomcat 7 behind iis 7.5 proxy ssl problems

    - by user1058410
I'm using embedded tomcat 7 behind a iis 7.5 proxy server, with requests being forwarded to tomcat with arr. Everything works fine unless iis is set to require ssl. Then things like links that are generated dynamically in .jsp files on tomcat don't work right. For example if a link is supposed to point to _https://somewhere.com:443 it will be wrote as _http://somewhere.com:8080 (8080 is the port tomcat is running on). The problem seems to come from when tomcat looks at itself to build out the url it sees correctly that it is running on _http://somewhere.com:8080, but i need it to think otherwise. Does anybody know how to accomplish this without using ssl between iis and tomcat? Sorry for the underscores in front of the imaginary urls.

  • Tomcat / Railo stop responding with no error output

    - by andrewdixon
This is going to sound very vague and I'm sure it will be voted down for not giving enough information however I don't really have any to give as you will see. We have an AWS instance running Amazon Linux, Apache, Tomcat and Railo and from time to time the Tomcat/Railo simply stops responding to requests and there are no errors output in the catalina.out file or any of the other log files in the Tomcat logs directory. When I issue the command to restart Tomcat/Railo the restart scripts sits there for a while then says that Tomcat has not responded so it has killed it off and then it starts up again and everything is fine until it happens again, anything from a couple of minutes to a couple of days later. I have done my best to check other logs on the server but have found no messages at all to indicate why Tomcat/Railo has given up and stopped responding. Can anyone suggest any reason why it might be doing this and / or any other log file(s) that we could check to see what is happening. Thanks. Andrew.

  • Tomcat stops responding to JK requests

    - by Bruno Reis
Hello. I have a nasty issue with load-balanced Tomcat servers that are hanging up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The system I'm running Tomcat 6.0.26 on HotSpot Server 14.3-b01 (Java 1.6.0_17-b04) on three servers sitting behind another server that acts as load balancer. The load balancer runs Apache (2.2.8-1) + MOD_JK (1.2.25). All of the servers are running Ubuntu 8.04. The Tomcat's have 2 connectors configured: an AJP one, and a HTTP one. The AJP is to be used with the load balancer, while the HTTP is used by the dev team to directly connect to a chosen server (if we have a reason to do so). I have Lambda Probe 1.7b installed on the Tomcat servers to help me diagnose and fix the problem soon to be described. The problem Here's the problem: after about 1 day the application servers are up, JK Status Manager starts reporting status ERR for, say, Tomcat2. It will simply get stuck on this state, and the only fix I've found so far is to ssh the box and restart Tomcat. I must also mention that JK Status Manager takes a lot longer to refresh when there's a Tomcat server in this state. Finally, the "Busy" count of the stuck Tomcat on JK Status Manager is always high, and won't go down per se -- I must restart the Tomcat server, wait, then reset the worker on JK. Analysis Since I have 2 connectors on each Tomcat (AJP and HTTP), I still can connect to the application through the HTTP one. The application works just fine like this, very, very fast. That is perfectly normal, since I'm the only one using this server (as JK stopped delegating requests to this Tomcat). To try to better understand the problem, I've taken a thread dump from a Tomcat which is not responding anymore, and from another one that has been restarted recently (say, 1 hour before). The instance that is responding normally to JK shows most of the TP-ProcessorXXX threads in "Runnable" state, with the following stack trace: java.net.SocketInputStream.socketRead0 ( native code ) java.net.SocketInputStream.read ( SocketInputStream.java:129 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.fill ( BufferedInputStream.java:218 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.read1 ( BufferedInputStream.java:258 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.read ( BufferedInputStream.java:317 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.read ( ChannelSocket.java:621 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.receive ( ChannelSocket.java:559 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.processConnection ( ChannelSocket.java:686 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket$SocketConnection.runIt ( ChannelSocket.java:891 ) org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run ( ThreadPool.java:690 ) java.lang.Thread.run ( Thread.java:619 ) The instance that is stuck show most (all?) of the TP-ProcessorXXX threads in "Waiting" state. These have the following stack trace: java.lang.Object.wait ( native code ) java.lang.Object.wait ( Object.java:485 ) org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run ( ThreadPool.java:662 ) java.lang.Thread.run ( Thread.java:619 ) I don't know of the internals of Tomcat, but I would infer that the "Waiting" threads are simply threads sitting on a thread pool. So, if they are threads waiting inside of a thread pool, why wouldn't Tomcat put them to work on processing requests from JK? Solution? So, as I've stated before, the only fix I've found is to stop the Tomcat instance, stop the JK worker, wait the latter's busy count slowly go down, start Tomcat again, and enable the JK worker once again. What is causing this problem? How should I further investigate it? What can I do to solve it? Thanks in advance.

  • haproxy and tomcat intermittent hangs

    - by Lorin
I am trying to run haproxy in front of tomcat on a Solaris x86 box, but I am getting intermittent failures. At seemingly random intervals, the request just hangs until haproxy times out the connection. I thought maybe it was my app, but I've been able to reproduce it with the tomcat manager app, and hitting tomcat directly there is no problems at all. Hitting it repeatedly with curl will cause the error within 10-15 tries curl -ikL http://admin:admin@<my server>:81/manager/status haproxy is running on port 81, tomcat on port 7000. haproxy returns a 504 gateway timeout to the client, and puts this into the log file: Sep 7 21:39:53 localhost haproxy[16887]: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:65168 [07/Sep/2009:21:39:23.005] http_proxy http_proxy/tomcat7000 5/0/0/-1/30014 504 194 - - sHNN 0/0/0/0/0 0/0 "GET /manager/status HTTP/1.1" Tomcat shows nothing, no error in the logs and no indication that the request ever makes it to the tomcat server. The request count is not incremented, the manager app only shows activity on one thread, serving up the manager app. Here are my haproxy and tomcat connector settings, I've been playing with both a good deal trying to chase down the issue, so they may not be ideal, but they definitely don't seem like they should cause this error. server.xml <Connector port="7000" protocol="HTTP/1.1" enableLookups="false" maxKeepAliveRequests="1" connectionLinger="10" /> haproxy config global log loghost local0 chroot /var/haproxy listen http_proxy :81 mode http log global option httplog option httpclose clitimeout 150000 srvtimeout 30000 contimeout 3000 balance roundrobin cookie SERVERID insert server tomcat7000 127.0.0.1:7000 cookie server00 check inter 2000

  • Apache, Tomcat 5 and problem with HTTP basic auth

    - by Juha Syrjälä
I have setup a Tomcat with a webapp that uses http basic auth in some of its URLs. There is a Apache server in front of the Tomcat. I have setup Apache as a proxy like this (all traffic should go directly to tomcat): /etc/httpd/conf.d/proxy_ajp.conf: LoadModule proxy_ajp_module modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so ProxyPass / ajp://localhost:8009/ ProxyPassReverse / ajp://localhost:8009/ There is a webapp installed to root of Tomcat (ROOT.war), so I should be able to use http://localhost/ to access my webapp. But it is not working with http basic auth. The problem is that everything works until I try to access URL that are protected by the HTTP basic auth. URLs without authentication work just fine. When accessing this url via apache I am getting an error message from Apache. If I access the same URL directly from tomcat, everything works just fine. I am getting this to Apache error log: [Wed Sep 01 21:34:01 2010] [error] proxy: dialog to [::1]:8009 (localhost) failed access log looks like this: ::1 - - [01/Sep/2010:21:34:01 +0300] "GET /protected_path/ HTTP/1.0" 503 360 "-" "w3m/0.5.2" I am using: Fedora release 13 (Goddard) httpd-2.2.16-1.fc13.x86_64 tomcat5-5.5.27-7.4.fc12.noarch The basic auth is implemented in the webapp (not in Apache or Tomcat). The webapp is actually implemented in Scala/Lift, but that shouldn't matter. The auth works if I access the tomcat directly. Error message that I am getting from Apache. It is curious that the title is Unauthorized and not Internal error: Unauthorized The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later. Apache/2.2.16 (Fedora) Server at my.server.name.com Port 80 It could be that Apache is seeing a some thing else than 200 OK response and thinks that it is an error when it actually should pass the received 401 Unauthorized response directly to browser. If this is the problem, how to fix it?

  • Serving and caching content from Amazon S3 with Tomcat

    - by Rob
Hi all, We're looking to serve a range of content using Amazon S3 as a store for the content and Tomcat to host the web application. The content is divided into free and paid for content. We intend to authenticate the users when they access the web application running in Tomcat. Based around their authentication we are able to tell if the user has access to paid for content or simply free stuff. So I envision the flow of a request being something like this: Authenticated request to Tomcat If user is "paid" user, display links to premium content Direct requests for paid content back through Tomcat to prevent direct access to it by non-paying users. Tomcat makes request to S3 through a web cache to keep our costs down Content is returned to user. As we have to pay for each request to S3, I'd ideally like to cache content locally to the Tomcat instance after it has been requested for the first time to keep costs to a minimum and to speed things up. I would also like to be able to invalidate this cache if we publish fresh content to S3. So to confirm my proposal: Client Request - Tomcat - Web Cache - S3 To invalidate the cache, I was thinking of using something like PubSubHubbub with the cache waiting for updates to the feed for content that it should invalidate. I'd appreciate some general feedback on this approach as I've no real experience of caching and I'm sure I've made some invalid assumptions. I'd also appreciate any recommendations for caching technologies. Thanks.
