  • Diagnosing high CPU waiting

    I have a monitoring server that is running icinga/collectd/graphite with about 50 hosts. I have noticed high load/slugging performance on the box. If you take a look at top, you'll see: Cpu(s): 0.6%us, 0.2%sy, 0.0%ni, 7.6%id, 23.4%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.2%si, 0.0%st Notice the HUGE %wa value, which as far as I know means a network or disk bottleneck. ifconfig shows no dropping packets and there's not a ton of bandwidth going on, so that leaves disk issues, right? There's not a lot of disk writing going on either...iotop is reporting we're only writing a little over 1 MB per second and the RAID tool reports everything is A-OK and write caching is enabled. How do I go about trying to figure out how to fix this?     When I go to certain websites that have google analytics, they never load up. One example is www.jquery.com. I tried in firefox, chrome, safari and explorer. Chrome & safari, flash the home page then it disappears and the screen goes white. Firefox never loads anything and the spinner just keeps spinning. Loads fine in explorer. Any ideas of what may be going on? If I use my laptop, on my same home internet connection, it works fine. This is not happening on all sites with analytics, just certain ones.

  • Windows server 2008 r2 console stuck at "waiting for user profile service"

    Hi, I have a windows 2008 R2 server, running on dell poweredge t300. Using hyper-v to run a windows 2008 R2 server also. Suddenly, today, my virtual console (on the virtual copy of windows 2008 server r2) will not let me login as administrator. It starts to login but then sticks at the message: Please wait for the User profile Service and is unresponsive to keypresses (incl ctrl-alt-del). The only way out is a crash. It starts up in safe mode without networking ok but not in safe mode with networking. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated Thanks

  • TFS2010 Hangs “Waiting for Build Agent”

    I have asked this question over on SO the link to the question is here but i am hoping this is a better place to ask it. I have 3 VM's each running the TFS Build Host Service 1 has 1 controller and 1 agent 2 have 2 Build Agents each. Most of the time (7\10 builds) it comes back with the following error message TF215097: An error occurred while initializing a build for build definition BUILD_DEFINITION: There was no endpoint listening at http://MACHINE1:9191/Build/v3.0/Services/Controller/14 that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action.     It seems that FF has a problem with 403 Access Denied responses from proxies, at least for ssl.google-analytics.com. I've found this post which describes my problem. I'm posting my workaround as an answer, but would also welcome any more information if anyone has it as I can't find anything! EDIT: Note that the current version of Firefox which is experiencing this issue is 3.0.10 EDIT: Still there for FF 3.5...

  • Computer won't reboot without waiting for a while

    I've got an unusual problem with my computer. When ever I reboot my computer it won't boot, I get a few beeps from the BIOS and nothing else, however if I wait for a few minuets the computer will boot perfectly. I tried to count the beeps and I get around 7-9 of them; the first two are noticeably closer together than the rest. [Edit: I'm now reasonably confident it's 1 long followed by 8 short beeps.   • Waiting for a daemontools service to stop

    I'm running a service under daemontools that take several seconds to stop when sent the TERM signal. I need to stop it in a script, and then wait for the process to stop before continuing to take a LVM snapshot or restarting the service. Does daemontools provide a way to do this? If not, what's the best way? I was thinking of sleeping while svcok exits with 0, but it seems like this should be a common problem with an easier solution. Thoughts?

    I created an app in itunesconnect on May 24th but I did't upload the binary until June 1st. The status is still "waiting for review" - in the past the status moved to "in review" fairly quickly. Is it normal to wait several days to move to "in review" - I am worried there was a problem and that I should reject my binary. Thanks for any advice

    I'm trying to configure ftp over amazon EC2 instance, I've installed vsftpd and did the steps of adding user and modifying the vsftpd.conf file, but I'm getting my service status as ubuntu@ip-10-38-106-212:~$ sudo service vsftpd status vsftpd stop/waiting I've tried to reinstall vsftpd but still getting the same, I've also added the port 20 and 21 in my security group policy to skip the firewall. How to join both components? it is strongly desirable that: the changes to attach component B to component A are minimal (its not my code and it is not very pleasent to mess with). the time taken by the new operations (usually communicating with component B) interfere very little with the usual processing time of component A - this means that if the operations are going to take a "some" time I would rather use a thread or something to do them. note: since component A receives udp packets more frequently that it has component B instructions to forward, if necessary, it can only forward the instructions (when available) from the IO handler. my initial ideia was to develop a component C (in C++) that would sit inside the component A code (is this called an adapter?) that when instanciated starts the java process and makes the necessary connections (that not so little overhead in the initialization is not a problem). It would have 2 stacks, one for the data to give component B (lets call it Bstack) and for the data to give component A (lets call it Astack). It would sit on its thread (lets call it new-thread) waiting for data to be available in Bstack to send it over udp, and listen on the udp socket to put data on the Astack. This means that the changes to component A are only: when it receives a new UDP packet put it on the Bstack, and if there is something on the Astack sent it over its UDP socket (I decided for this because this socket would only be used in the main thread). One of the problems is that I don't know how to wait for both of these events at the same time using only one thread. so my questions are: Do I really need to use the main thread to send the data over component A socket or can I do it from the new-thread? (I think the answer is no, but I'm not sure about race conditions on sockets) how to I wait for both events? boost::condition_variable or something similar seems the solution in the case of the stack and boost::asio::io_service io_service.run() seems like the thing to use for the socket. Is there any other alternative solution for this problem that I'm not aware of? Thanks for reading this long text but I really wanted you to understand the problem.

  • apt-get commands pausing at 'Waiting for headers' [closed]

    I have a VM running Ubuntu Server 9.10 running a basic web server setup. Whenever I run an apt function it will pause for around 1 minute at 'Waiting for headers...'. It will eventually clear through and continue as normal but it is a bit of an annoyance. Everything else on the server seems to run fine. Any ideas?

After reboot, I now get this message for almost all hg commands: c:\srchg commit waiting for lock on repository c:\src\McVrsServer held by '\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\ x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00' interrupted! Google is no help. Any tips?

I am running Eclipse Gallileo Build id: 20100218-1602 on Windows 7 Ultimate I am running php 5.3.8 The Zend Extension Build and PHP Extension Build are both - API220090626,TS,VC9 Solutions Tried: I have verified that port 9000 is available for use, I have even tried other ports as a double check that ports was not the issue. That includes setting the ports in both the php.ini file and in the Eclipse development environment. I have set the php.ini file as follows (I have also tried numerous other configurations - none worked): zend_extension = "c:/wamp/bin/php/php_xdebug-2.1.3-5.3-vc9.dll" [xdebug] xdebug.remote_enable=on xdebug.remote_host="localhost" xdebug.remote_port=9000 xdebug.remote_handler="dbgp" I am at a loss, can anyone help?

  • Android Release Version and "Waiting for Debugger"

    I know this has been asked before but I still don't have a solution. My first app: developed and debugged on my moto droid and then followed all the release steps, (exported from Eclipse, using my key to sign) including removing the debug in the manifest xml. I copied the resulting apk to the droid, disconnected the usb and installed it by double clicking on the file using Astro. I get the "Waiting for Debugger" message like when I am debugging but it never goes away. Doing something real stupid I know but I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

  • Spawning and waiting for child processes in Python

    The relevant part of the code looks like this: pids = [] for size in SIZES: pids.append(os.spawnv(os.P_NOWAIT, RESIZECMD, [RESIZECMD, lotsOfOptions])) # Wait for all spawned imagemagick processes to finish while pids: (pid, status) = os.waitpid(0, 0) if pid: pids.remove(pid) What this should be doing is spawning all of the processes off, then waiting for each process to finish before continuing. What it does is work for the most part but sometimes crash on the next section (when it expects all of these processes to be finished). Is there something wrong with this? Is there a better way of doing it? The environment it has to work on is CentOS with Python 2.4, but I'm testing on Cygwin with Python 2.5, so it could be that it fails on my machine but will work on the Linux one (the Linux machine is very slow and this error is rare, so I haven't been able to get it on there).

  • Waiting for a background operation to complete

    I have been suffering from the all too common 'Waiting for a background operation to complete...' message in Visual Studio 2012 (Professional) for a while now but it has been fairly sporadic. Lately though, I am really struggling to use Visual Studio as pretty much whenever i try and do anything with any Razor views (mostly clicking to move the cursor) visual studio hangs and the above message appears for about a minute at a time. (If when its finished doing stuff i then click in the view again, the process repeats, and repeats, and repeats.....) I have searched high and low, and read loads of articles regarding this and peoples suggestions and tried changing indentation settings, resetting settings, etc but none have worked. Has anyone come across something else that may work as this is seriously impeding my ability to use visual studio and sadly provoking much cursing.

  • Ensuring all waiting threads complete

    I'm building a system where the progress of calling threads is dependent on the state of two variables. One variable is updated sporadically by an external source (separate from the client threads) and multiple client threads block on a condition of both variables. The system is something like this TypeB waitForB() { // Can be called by many threads. synchronized (B) { while (A <= B) { B.wait(); } A = B; return B; { } void updateB(TypeB newB) { // Called by one thread. synchronized (B) { B.update(newB); B.notifyAll(); // All blocked threads must receive new B. } } I need all the blocked threads to receive the new value of B once it has been updated. But the problem is once a single thread finishes and updates A, the waiting condition becomes true again so some of the other threads become blocked and don't receive the new value of B. Is there a way of ensuring that only the last thread that was blocked on B updates A, or another way of getting this behaviour?
