• Bing map silverlight control content rendering issue when page gets refresh

  When Bing map control loads for first time on any browser all pushpin on map are visible. Bing map control renders perfectly. Then I refresh browser it create rendering issue some custom pushpin on map gets disappeared. This behavior continues with pushpin. Pushpin are (.png) images and I am not using default bing map thumbtacks. May be it is issue of browser caching content or Bing map control rendering issues on various browsers. Waiting for your response.

• Will ExtJS die?

  I look at ExtJS, and it appears to provide many of the RIA features that more bulky suites such as Flex provide, without the flash requirement. However, as Open-source initiatiatives such as jQuery-UI continue, will ExtJS simply die at some point? Furthermore, since flash penetration only continues to increase, why put stock in a javascript library? That said, JavaScript libraries such as jQuery have made gigantic leaps in providing easy-to-use APIs with great functionality, so maybe there's some merit in that. Thoughts? Opinions? ExtJS has a price tag, so I have to ask this question.

• ACT Professional for Windows-Memory leak?

  I have an ACT! professional for Windows V11.1, with the latest SQL service pack (SP3) and have an apparent memory leak on the server. After a restart the ACT! SQL instance (SQLSERVR) consumes almost all the available memory on the server, we have added more memory to the server (it is running under Hyper-V) but it continues to consume it all. I have not been able to connect to the SQL server instance using management studio in order to limit the amount of RAM it is allocated. Are there any potential solutions for this? or should I continue to restart the services?

• Passing unknown classes to String Streams in C++

  I am using a template function and I am passing and I may be sending instances of a variety of classes to a string stream. What can I do to make sure this continues to work? Let me be more specific where do I define the behavior for this? Is there some member that should be on each class being sent to the string stream, should I in some enhance or extend the existing String stream (I was thinking building a class that inherits from sstream and overloads the << operator to handle all the possible classes)? I had trouble even finding documentation on this, so even links to more resources would be helpful.

  I am implementing a database application and I will use both JavaDB and MySQL as database. I have an ID column in my tables that has integer as type and I use the databases auto_increment-function for the value. But what happens when I get more than 2 (or 4) billion posts and integer is not enough? Is the integer overflowed and continues or is an exception thrown that I can handle? Yes, I could change to long as datatype, but how do I check when that is needed? And I think there is problem with getting the last_inserted_id()-functions if I use long as datatype for the ID-column.

• Netbeans 6.8 groovy files in src/main/java

  I have a new netbeans maven/groovy project, and I actually prefer to mix my java and groovy files in src/main/java and src/test/java (I find it easier to navigate this way and my pom reflects this configuration). However, when I have my project setup this way in Netbeans 6.8, it always shows the generated-sources folder in error. The stubs generated from groovy files in src/test/java can't be opened by netbeans and given an error that they can't be parsed. However, in windows explorer the files are in tact. Netbeans can run the project but it continues to prompt me that some files are in error (even though I know they're not). It's like netbeans isn't refreshing itself. Any thoughts on how to fix this? thanks, Jeff

• Java Future and infinite computation

  I'm trying to optimize an (infinite) computation algorithm. I have an infinte Sum to calculate ( Summ_{n- infinity} (....) ) My idea was to create several threads using the Future < construct, then combine the intermediate results together. My problem hoewer is that I need a certain precision. So I need to constantly calculate the current result while other threads keep calculating. My question is: Is there some sort of result queue where each finished thread can put its results in, while a main thread can receive those results and then either lets the computation continues or terminate the whole ExecutorService? Any Help would really be appreciated! Thanks!

• Linux ext3 readdir and concurrent updates

  Dear all, we are receiving about 10000 messages per hour. We store them as individual files in hourly directories on an ext3 filesystem. The file name includes a sequence number. We use rsync to mirror these files every 20 seconds at another location (via a SAN, but that doesn't matter). Sometimes an rsync run picks up files n-3, n-2, n-1, n+1, and then next rsync run continues with n, n+2, n+3, n+4 and so on. Is it possible that when one process creates files in a certain sequence within a directory, that another process using readdir() sees the files appearing in a different sequence? • Getting readline to block on a FIFO

  I create a fifo: mkfifo tofetch I run this python code: fetchlistfile = file("tofetch", "r") while 1: nextfetch = fetchlistfile.readline() print nextfetch It stalls on readline, as I would hope. I run: echo "test" > tofetch And my program doesn't stall anymore. It reads the line, and then continues looping forever. Why won't it stall again when there's no new data? I also tried looking on "not fetchlistfile.closed", I wouldn't mind reopening it after every write, but Python thinks the fifo is still open.

• PHP set timeout for script, set_time_limit not working

  I have a command-line PHP script that runs a wget request using each member of an array with foreach. This wget request can sometimes take a long time so I want to be able to set a timeout for killing the script if it goes past 15 seconds for example. I have PHP safemode disabled and tried set_time_limit(15) early in the script, however it continues indefinitely. I've given up troubleshooting set_time_limit() and was trying to find other ways to kill the script after 15 seconds of execution. However, I'm not sure if it's possible to check the time a script has been running while it's in the middle of a wget request at the same time (a do while loop did not work). Thanks for any tips!

• size of view not changing after frame change

  I have managed to do pretty complex things on iPhone but I am always stuck with views, frames, bounds, and simple stuff that defies any logic and don't work as expected. I have a self.view in my code and it has a lot of subviews on it. At some point of the code, I need to reduce the frame vertically to a specific size and later put it back as before. Then I have this code: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.5]; // frame is changing to a newHeight (other parameters are the same as before) self.view.frame = CGRectMake (0, 0, originalWidth, newHeight); [UIView commitAnimations]; The result is simply, nothing. The view continues as before. The same size, the same position. No change. Why this kind of thing happens? how to solve that?

Say I make an asynch ajax call like so: xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.onreadystatechange= myFoo; xmlhttp.open("GET",url,true); Here is my callback function: function myFoo() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4) { if (xmlhttp.status==200) { // Success message } else { // some error message } } } Now, where and when does the execution path start again? Once I make the call to open(), does execution continue directly below the open() and another "thread" enters the asynch function once the ajax request has been completed? Or, does the browser wait for the request to complete, make the Asynch call, and then execution continues right after the open? Thanks!

• Line of code doesnt follow sequential execution

• Using TFSBuild to publish ClickOnce files that include prerequisites

  I have declared an MSBuild tag in my TFSBuild project in order to publish ClickOnce files for my project. WSE 3.0 and .Net 3.0 are both pre-requisites for the application, so in Visual Studio I have ticked those as pre-requisites. When I build from Visual Studio, it creates a setup.exe file that I can publish to my web site. When you browse to this setup.exe file it installs WSE3.0 and .Net 3.0 and then continues to install my application, which works well. If I get TFS to create the click once files using the MSBuild tag in the TFSBuild file, it creates the setup.exe file, which I can publish to my website in the same way (along with all the other ClickOnce files). When I browse to setup.exe now, however, the prerequisites don't get installed and therefore my program does not run. Does anyone know how to get TFS to build a correct setup.exe file that properly bootstraps my prerequisites?

  So, I've defined a class like DataLoggingSystemStateReceiver { DataLoggingSystemStateReceiver() { // stuff } // ... other functions here }; In main, I instantiate DataLoggingSystemStateReceiver like so: int main() { // ... run stuff Sensor sensor(port, timer); DataLoggingSystemStateReceiver dlss(); Log::notice("started"); return 0; } However, when I step through this code in gdb, it runs: Sensor sensor(port, timer); skips DataLoggingSystemStateReceiver dlss(); and continues with Log::notice("started"); What gives? EDIT: By changing DataLoggingSystemStateReceiver dlss(); to DataLoggingSystemStateReceiver dlss; in main(), the line executes. Can someone explain why?

• Needing to copy properties before validation

  I have a farily complex model needing to be validated, the problem is that this model is used on two different places, one where you register your customer and one where you simply add addresses. Some fields on the address are simply not visible on the register customer form. So when i check if ModelState.IsValid i get false of course since eg. the name is not entered on the billing address, but it is on the customer. That is why i want to before validation occurs, copy a couple of fields to the model, and then validate. I am somewhat lost though and i need help. My action looks something like this: public ActionResult Register(WebCustomer customer) { customer.CopyProperties(); if(TryUpdateModel(customer)) { ... } ... But it always returns false, and ModelState.IsValid continues to be false.

  I'm trying to make a web based media player using the HTML5 audio element implemented in Firefox 3.5 and Chrome. Reading Mozillas documentation, omitting the autobuffer attribute should result in the audio src not being requested: if specified, the audio will automatically begin being downloaded, even if not set to automatically play. This continues until the media cache is full, or the entire audio file has been downloaded, whichever comes first However, on the server side I notice the files are being requested anyway.   'm using to Exhibit to, pretty simply, display some data on historical events and book publication dates: http://f1shw1ck.com/timeline3/exhibit.html Everything works fine, and I have been able to get the timeline running as wanted, until I try to take control of the timeline with a timelineConfig script. After I add this, my timeline continues to work as expected on all browsers, except for IE. Curiously enough, band 0 initializes and is rendered correctly, but band 1 shows no events and does not sync to the band above. But it is picking up the width: 10%", intervalUnit: Timeline.DateTime.DECADE, intervalPixels: 60 specifications, as they are rendered correctly. Since everything works until I call ex:configuration="timelineConfig", since everything works in the other browsers, and since everything almost works in IE, up to the event painting, I have to imagine this is a javascript coding error on my part, but I just can't see it. All I get in my console is Failed to create view View As Timeline." Incidentally, having or not having the gotoYear function seemingly does nothing to change... Thanks for any tips.

• ImageView doesn't rescale Image to selected size

  I'm using a ImageView with a fixed size for adding an icon to a menu. In my application, I use it a lot of times, but on this ImageView the Layout Params seem to not work. Unlike the others ImageViews, in this case, I'm using a template directly, but I think that's not the problem. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ImageView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="1dp" android:layout_height="1dp" android:scaleType="fitCenter" android:src="@drawable/ic_menu_moreoverflow_normal_holo_dark" android:contentDescription="ICON" /> Its been used in code as follows. ImageView iview =(ImageView) View.inflate(context, R.layout.icon, null); Theoretically, It should resize automatically the image, however, the images continues with the original size, although the size was 1dp.   Hello I have an extended stored procedure that sends an error message. srv_sendmsg(pSrvProc, SRV_MSG_ERROR, errorNum, SRV_FATAL_SERVER, 1, NULL, 0, (DBUSMALLINT) __LINE__, buff, SRV_NULLTERM); I've set the severity to SVR_FATAL_SERVER just as a test to see if I can cause the message to throw an exception in the sql. In my SQL i'm doing: BEGIN TRY EXEC dbo.xp_somethingCool SET @Error = @@ERROR END TRY BEGIN CATCH PRINT 'AN Error occoured!' SELECT ERROR_NUMBER() AS ErrorNumber ,ERROR_MESSAGE() AS ErrorMessage; END CATCH I would think that when my xp sends the error message the tsql would catch the error and select the error_number and error_message. Instead what ends up happening is that the xp sends the message and the T-SQL continues on its way like nothing happened. The @@Error variable doesn't get set either. So I was wondering if there was any trick to getting SQL to catch an error from an XP ? Thanks, Raul

  When I write a comment, it's often a paragraph or a few lines that explains clearly what a bit of code is doing and why it's doing that. What I'd like is if I could start a comment, and have the editor automatically insert a line break and continue the comment to the nest line when I reach, say, 80 characters long. So I'd type: // Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. < here the editor breaks automatically and continues onto the next line: // Etiam congue quam eget leo dignissim tincidunt.

  Let's say I have the MSP430 assembly segment below: r15: 439c Memory map: 4390: 6045 0200 9c43 6400 8844 5044 363a 0000 Code: 448a: cmp #0x363a, 0x0(r15) 4490: jnz $+0x1c 4492: Code continues . . . 44ac: Jump to location The goal is to have the Z flag high. To do this with a cmp, both src and dst must be equal. If I have 363a in the memory location of r15, why is it that the resulting cmp does not trigger the Z flag? Through experimentation, I found that putting 3a36 in the memory location of r15 did in fact trigger the Z flag, but I don't understand why. If anyone could bring this to light, I would greatly appreciate it. If more information is needed, I will gladly provide it.

Yet if I have: ~Person() { throw new Exception("meh"); } then it results in a runtime exception? p.s. I know that this should never happen, however I'm just curious around this behaviour. One of our clients had an empty try catch around all of their finalizers.. it didn't even log when things went wrong or reserect the object :/

• STOP ERASING MY QUESTIONS! - VIEWING FIRST_ROWS BEFORE QUERY COMPLETES (RE-VISITED)

  OK, so say I have a table with 500K rows, then I ad-hoc query with unsupported indexing which requires a full table scan. I would like to immediately view the first rows returned while the full table scan continues. Then I want to scroll thru the next results. In the meantime, I would like to display the progress of the table scan, example: "SEARCHING.. FOUND 23 OF 500,000 ROWS SO FAR". If I scroll too far ahead, I want to display a message like: "REACHED LAST ROW IN LOOK-AHEAD BUFFER.. QUERY HAS NOT COMPLETED".. Can this be done? Maybe like: spawn/exec, declare scroll cursor, open, fetch, etc.?
