  • Colors less saturated in Snow Leopard Finder, Preview & Safari than in Chrome -- why?

    If I look at the picture here in Safari, Preview or the finder, the shades of blue are significantly different than if I look at the picture in Google Chrome (they are less saturated than in Chrome). Since I am a photographer and need to prepare pictures for publication online, I need to know what a jpeg should really look like, in order to color-correct it. I have an excellent Eizo monitor that is correctly calibrated. If I open the same image in Photoshop CS3, I get the Chrome colors if I use Monitor RGB under view proof setup, and I get the Safari colors if I use Macintosh RGB. Can anyone explain the difference between these two settings, and the difference between Safari and Chrome? Which colors are correct? Photos that I prepared under Windows (during the past five years) now seem washed out in the Apple Finder and Preview, even though I had correctly prepared them. Is there a setting on the Macintosh for color calibration, besides the monitor calibration control panel?

  • Windows freezes, showing a random color or pattern

    I have a PC with windows 7, and I'm experiencing random freezes with increasing frequency. After some time (from 30 minutes to a few hours) the screen will shows a random color or pattern (vertical lines) and nothing works anymore, I need to reboot manually. I've checked the events log, but nothing is shown except for the unexpected reboot. I've tested the RAM with Memtest86+ 4.20, and the graphics card with FurMark 1.10.3, no errors have been found. I've updated the graphic drivers and openned the case to remove dust, but the issue is still there. Also, the problem doesn't seem to arise when I'm playing games fullscreen, but when I'm surfing the web, using itunes, or coding. My hardware is as follows : intel core i5 750 CPU, ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics card, ASUSTeK P7P55D motherboard, two 2Gb KINGSTON DDR3 ram sticks, 2 SATA hard drives, a Netgear dongle for wifi.

  • Windows 7 Explorer - Activate mouse focus to be able to scroll in tree and file view?

    I'd like to be able to scroll in the tree view without having to click in it. Is there a way to do this? I have once used a tool that generally gives focus to the window underneath the mouse cursor, but this caused some other glitches so I would like to achieve this without an extra tool. I also think that there are programs that embed the Windows Explorer and offer more features, including the behaviour I would like to have. But maybe a registry value change is all that is needed?

    I have created a simple propertySheet(CPropertySheet) and a couple of CPropertyPage derived classes. While running the application, the ProperySheet, Page and tabs are appeared in white color. I was expecting them to be like normal widow dialog color. Any clue to make the property sheet, pages background to be like other normal MFC dialogs appears? I use Visual Studio 2008 MFC without .NET CLR.

  • WIA Automation for scanner color intent is not working

    I cannot get my Canon Pixma MP150 to scan a color scan from c# code. The following code is resulting in a black and white image, or if I change the value of 6146 to 2 then a grayscale image is created. I would like to be able to have a color scan from code. I know the scanner does color images because I can do one through the xp wizard in "scanners and camera". Can anyone help me figure out what value I am not setting for a color scan. All documentation and examples I can find just say to change the value of 6146.   • Permissions restoring from Time Machine - Finder copy vs "cp" copy

    Note: this question was starting to sprawl so I rewrote it. I have a folder that I'm trying to restore from a Time Machine backup. Using cp -R works fine, but certain folders cannot be restored with either the Time Machine UI or Finder. Other users have reported similar errors and the cp -R workaround was suggested (e.g. Restoring from Time Machine - Permissions Error). But I wanted to understand: Why cp -R works when the Finder and the Time Machine UI do not. Whether I could prevent the errors by changing file permissions before the backup. There do indeed seem to be some permissions that Finder works with and some that it does not. I've narrowed the errors down to folders with the user ben (that's me) and the group wheel. Here's a simplified reproduction. But ben-wheel does not prompt for my password and gives the error: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access “file”. Interestingly, I can restore the file from this folder by dragging it directly to my local drive (instead of dragging its parent folder), but when I do so its permissions are changed to ben/staff.     To test, you'd have to log in to the example page here: http://www.avaline.com /Drinkware/Sport-Water-Bottles/Monterey-DAB20 From there, the Color drop-down swaps out the right color images in IE8, FF3.6(the latest), Chrome4.1(up to date), but not in IE7. I don't get it...but I'm plugging along trying to debug it with visual studio.
