  • How to serve media across home network?

    I'm looking to share my media across my home network. Router fully supports running a DLNA server, but I don't know if it'd be better to run the server from my main server computer instead of from the router, as the router would have to operate off of a network share and my server can operate directly off of the files. Here's what I need to serve, in order of importance: ISO 1:1 DVD rips (4-8GB files), MP4/H.264 encoded videos, MKV videos, MP3 files, JPEG/CR2 images. Maybe I'm completely ludicrous for wanting to push full DVD files across my network, but in reality, I would assume that only the parts of the actual file needed (ie: menu, main video payload for main title) would be served at any one time. Plus, encoding takes time and precious disk space, so why not stream it 1:1 ;) Does anyone know of the best way to accomplish this? Main goal is to serve it to Logitech Revue downstairs and secondary goal is to serve it to other computers in the house. For music, I assume I could run a DAAP server, but I don't think that the Revue supports that (and I can't exactly throw together an app that does it just yet).

  • Shuffling in windows media player

    I think media player has several issues indeed. You see, I'll be hearing songs most of the time using WMP 11 (in WinXP SP3). Today - While I was wasting my time poking some sleepy questions in SE, I also noticed this... My "Now-playing" list contains some 500 mp3s (doesn't matter). I've enabled both Shuffle and Repeat. I play those songs. When I get irritated with some song (say - the 10th song), I change it. Something mysterious happened (happens even now). A sequence of atleast 3 songs (already played before the 10th song) repeat again in the same way following the selected one... Then, I skip those somehow and arrive at another boring song (say now - 20th) and now, the sequence would've increased by about 5 songs (sometimes)... Sometimes, I even notice a specific "sequence of songs" (including the skipped one) repeating again & again. I doubt most guys would've noticed. This makes me ask a question - Why? There are a lot songs in my playlist. Why the same sets of songs? Does WMP really chooses a sequence at start and follows it. Once a change is encountered, it starts the sequence again after several songs. Is it so? Feel free to shoot it down. I don't know whether it's acceptable here. Just curious about it... Note: This is only observed when both shuffle and repeat are enabled. To confirm, I tried it in two other PCs of mine (thereby dumped 2 hours). BTW, I also didn't observe this magic in VLC, Winamp, K-Lite and not even my Nokia cellphone. I think I'm not a good Googler and so, I can't find any such issues :-)

  • CSS Design question, I've got myself completely turned around.

    Okay, I have a couple of other questions out there, but I think I'd better just ask from the beginning how you CSS experts would do this. Client's page is split into 2 rows -- header has some info, some aligned to left of page, some to right, some in the middle. This is currently done using a table. I'm fine with leaving this alone or changing it. My real question is that I need a page layout to handle the following: 2 columns - column on left is 200px, but can be "close" down to to 10px (not a slider, it's either 200 or 10 px). The column on the right needs to be as big as it needs to be -- which might be larger than the width of the page. When left column is "closed" then the right column slides over of course. Again, this right column might be 300px or it might be 4000 pixels (it's a reporting interface). Now, to add another wrinkle, SOME pages have 3 columns. The first 2 columns are each exactly 200px, and both can be "closed" down to 10 px each. But, the user may not close both columns, maybe just 1. Or none. Or both. The third column needs to act just like I described above, being able to be larger than the page width, and sliding over to take advantage of any of the "closed" left columns. Whew! I'm pretty confused as to how to go about this, as either I get it right but I can't scroll over to the right at all (overflow: hidden) and information is lost, or the right column jumps down below the left 2 columns and just looks plain stupid. My minimum browser requirements are IE8, FF3.5, Chrome and Safari (latest versions of all). Any and all pointers are gladly accepted.

  • Using CSS max-height on an outer div to force scroll on an inner-div.

    I have an outer div with a variable height (and max-height) that's set with a specific pixel amount by JavaScript, containing two divs within. The 1st div is intended to hold a variable amount of content, e.g. a list of links. It has no height set. The 2nd div is intended to hold a fixed amount of content, and has a specific height set. Right now, the max-height isn't working. The 1st div keeps growing, even with overflow: auto; set, and pushes the 2nd div below it outside the bounds of the outer div. How can I make it so that when the 1st div gets too large for the outer div to contain both it and the fixed-height 2nd div, the 1st div will start to scroll?   • CSS Layout-- Make table cell contents appear in row below and set height of parent row/cell

    I am modifying a skin for the CKEdit component so that the toolbar is hidden unless clicked. To do so, I moved the toolbar collapser to the row below it using position: relative and top:18px. My goal is to have the parent tr of the anchor element a height of 2px, but keep the anchor at 11px. Is this possible? I cannot alter the DOM, just the styles.   • Error - "IR Hardware not detected" - but it's installed/working

    I am trying to do: Settings-TV-Set up TV signal. During this process I am getting the error "IR Hardware not detected." With the remote, I can select the "try again" button (to re-detect) and it tries again, so the remote works. Plugging in the "IR blaster" doesn't change anything. (I wouldn't expect any difference, but I read a post which said you needed that. I will get Media Center to change channels if I can get that working - but first things first.) I was able to do the setup months ago when I had cable. and everything was fine. I just got DirecTV. (BTW - During the above process, Media Center detects the signal coming in on channel 3. Windows XP Media Center SP3. The TV Tuner card is a Pinnacle TCTV HD PCI. Everything - and I mean everything - has the latest firmware and drivers - as of 4 months ago when I fixed a different problem. So I DON"T WANT TO HEAR the standard answer to check drivers/firmware.     I'm using YUI 2's calendar in YUI 3. I want to make a few minor changes to the default sam skin. What is the best way to do that? Also, how does it load Sam's skin CSS? I didn't manually include it (though it seems like I should so the user can download it in the one request I make to the combo loader for css?). The main problem I'm having is that it seems to dynamically load the Sam's skin, so any CSS I specify in my stylesheet or in the <head> section seem to be overridden. I can modify the style by getting the nodes and using YUI's Node.setStyle() method, but this doesn't seem like the best way to do things. Note: The script does include more than I need for just YUI 2's calendar, but that's because I use YUI 3 for other things irrelevant to this question.

  • CSS rules not getting applied in JSPs ?

    Im building a web application using struts2. I have an authentication interceptor at the top of all the interceptors (I have set it up as such) which checks whether a user is logged in. If not, it will give a login page as result. In login page, I have some set of standard CSS rules which I use for all the JSPs in the app. But that login page coming via that interceptor is not getting applied with CSS rules. Don't know why.     I have a jsp page with a couple of CSS files included. In this, each CSS has separately defined styles for table. The problem is that I need those different styles for different tables and I'm unable to differentiate them and the menu's css styles get overlapped with the new css style. How can I avoid this problem; the menu.jsp has been included into another page. Is there a way to avoid overriding of the styles?

    hi...though it's debatable, i've heard majority of CSS developers prefer multi-line because of the ease at which a property can be found within the CSS file. But doesn't this make the CSS file bigger and less readable on the whole? I think single-line lets you scan the CSS file much faster. Any thoughts?

  • Firefox 3.5 Doesn't Load CSS From a Specific Site

    Firefox 3.5 doesn't load the CSS from only 1 site (www.makeuseof.com). Everything else works OK (graphics, etc.). I tried safemode but no luck. In other browsers same site works properly. What did I do wrong? Edit (2009 Aug. 19): problem solved but I don't know how. Today I just discovered that site loads CSS and it works. I didn't make any changes (think so). Love Firefox :).

    Hi, I try to apply flattened css to xhtml (which get from websites). I am using css4j-0.12.1.jar (from http://www.informatica.info/projects/css/) to process the url html content. For a few urls the code seems to be hang. Even no exception is thrown. For a particular stylableelement or style code doesnot return any value and hangs. For a few websites code hang in, CSSStyleDeclaration.getPropertyValue(style); and for a few websites code hang in, CSSStylableElement.getComputedStyle(); I am using the latest jar. Could you please update me, is there any known issue or fix for this. I am not sure where to post this issue. If anyone knows please update me. Thanks in Advance.

  • Messenger Thinks My Ip is Invalid

    Hello. I am using Windows Live Messenger 2009 on Windows 7. I am using a 3G modem (ZTE Propietary USB Modem) I connect to the Internet using a software my ISP provided me. In last three days, my Messenger started to disconnect. Here is what I observed and tried to do: 1- I can browse web, can do FTP transfer etc. and obiviously have a valid IP. 2- I can sign in to Messenger (appear offline) but when I change my status to anything other then appear offline, Messenger says my connection to service has been lost. (However, it exists.) 3- When I run, MSN Connection Troubleshooter, it says my IP is invalid. When I click repair, it says repaired and just after that, I run the troubleshooter again, and it says my IP is invalid again. (However, it is valid and I am browsing the net.) 4- If I connect the Internet through eterhet or wireless there is no problem at all. 5- I re-installed Messenger (deleting all settings manually through registry and folders), re-installed all drivers and software related to USB 3G Modem. It doesn't work. And then, I took a full backup then formatted entire computer, installed a fresh windows 7, after 5 minutes, the same problem occured. What do you recommend? What can I do? Addition As seen on screenshot, it says Server IPv4 adress is 0.0.0.0 It seems like a problem, I don't know if it is. If it is, how can I solve it? Here is what I get, when I netstat.
