  I would like to install a feature according to the brand. My only problem is a warning I get at compilation time: The 'Level' attribute is invalid - The value '$(var.brand.FeatureLevel)' is invalid according to its datatype 'http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema:integer' - The string '$(var.brand.FeatureLevel)' is not a valid Integer value. Is there a way to fix this warning? Can I define integer variable? I couldn't find a way...

Essentially, I would like to truncate a string such that it its length is not longer than a given value. I am writing to a database table and want to ensure that the values I write meet the constraint of the column's datatype. For instance, it would be nice if I could write the following: string NormalizeLength(string value, int maxLength) { return value.Substring(0, maxLength); } Unfortunately, this raises an exception because maxLength exceeds the string boundaries. Of course, I could write a function like the following, but I was hoping that something like this already exists. string NormalizeLength(string value, int maxLength) { return value.Length <= maxLength ? value : value.Substring(0, maxLength); } Where is the elusive API that performs this task? • About enumerations in Delphi and c++ in 64-bit environments

  I recently had to work around the different default sizes used for enumerations in Delphi and c++ since i have to use a c++ dll from a delphi application. On function call returns an array of structs (or records in delphi), the first element of which is an enum. To make this work, I use packed records (or aligned(1)-structs). However, since delphi selects the size of an enum-variable dynamically by default and uses the smallest datatype possible (it was a byte in my case), but C++ uses an int for enums, my data was not interpreted correctly. Delphi offers a compiler switch to work around this, so the declaration of the enum becomes {$Z4} TTypeofLight = ( V3d_AMBIENT, V3d_DIRECTIONAL, V3d_POSITIONAL, V3d_SPOT ); {$Z1} My Questions are: What will become of my structs when they are compiled on/for a 64-bit environment? Does the default c++ integer grow to 8 Bytes? Are there other memory alignment / data type size modifications (other than pointers)?

• 2-byte (UCS-2) wide strings under GCC

  Hi all, when porting my Visual C++ project to GCC, I found out that the wchar_t datatype is 4-byte UTF-32 by default. I could override that with a compiler option, but then the whole wcs* (wcslen, wcscmp, etc.) part of RTL is rendered unusable, since it assumes 4-byte wide strings. For now, I've reimplemented 5-6 of these functions from scratch and #defined my implementations in. But is there a more elegant option - say, a build of GCC RTL with 2-byte wchar-t quietly sitting somewhere, waiting to be linked? The specific flavors of GCC I'm after are Xcode on Mac OS X, Cygwin, and the one that comes with Debian Linux Etch.

  Hey guys, let's say I have a sorted list of Floats. Now I'd like to get the index of the next lower item of a given value. The usual for-loop aprroach has a complexity of O(n). Since the list is sorted there must be a way to get the index with O(log n). My O(n) approach: index=0 for i,value in enumerate(mylist): if value>compareValue: index=i-1 Is there a datatype for solving that problem in O(log n)? best regards Sebastian

  How can I insert arabic characters into sql database? I tried to insert arabic data into a table and the arabic characters in the insert script were inserted as '??????' in the table. I tried to directly paste the data into the table through sql management studio and the arabic characters was successfully and accurately inserted. I looked around for resolutions for this problems and some threads suggested changing the datatype to nvarchar instead of varchar. I tried this as well but without any luck. How can we insert arabic characters into sql database?

• How many bytes does Oracle use when storing a single character?

  I tried to look here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/datatype.htm#i3253 And I understand that I have to provide string length for the column, I'm just not able to find out how many bytes oracle uses when storing a character. My limit is 500 characters, so if its 1 byte / character, I can create the column with 500, if its 2 byte / character then 1000, etc. Anyone have a link to the documentation or know for certain? In case it matters, the SQL is being called from PHP, so these are PHP strings I'm inserting into the database. Thanks.

  Hello I am using ibatis and C#. i get a result from a select query that has CreatedDate as one of the field. The Datatype of CreatedDate in Mysql is Date. I assign the result set of the select query to a Ilist< DeliveryClass **. Here the DeliveryClass CreatedDate as DateTime. When i run the application, i get **Unable to convert MySQL date/time value to System.DateTime. What could be the problem?

• IE7 not digesting JSON: "parse error"

  While trying to GET a JSON, my callback function is NOT firing. $.ajax({ type:"GET", dataType:'json', url: myLocalURL, data: myData, success: function(returned_data){alert('success');} }); The strangest part of this is that my JSON(s) validates on JSONlint this ONLY fails on IE7...it works in Safari, Chrome, and all versions of Firefox. If I use 'error', then it reports "parseError"...even though it validates! Is there anything that I'm missing? Does IE7 not process certain characters, data structures (my data doesn't have anything non-alphanumeric, but it DOES have nested JSONs)? I have used tons of other AJAX calls that all work (even in IE7), but with the exception of THIS call. An example data return here is: {"question":{ "question_id":"19", "question_text":"testing", "other_crap":"none" }, "timestamp":{ "response":"answer", "response_text":"the text here" } } I am completely at a loss. Hopefully someone has some insight into what's going on...thank you!

  Hi, I use Asp.net, SQL 2008 and EF 4. I need display hierarchy data in a treeview control, Data is stored in a DB that use HierarchyId. Unfortunately, EF4 doesn't support HierarchyId. So in this case, I thought to have a stored procedure that deals with my hierarchy and return a result set back to EF that EF4 can turn into a collection of user-defined complex type that can then be bound directly to the treeview control. I imported a SPROC in EF 4 using Import Function and now I have a Complex DataType called: CategoryHierarchy_Result An image of my Model: Here some data from the Complex Type (in a GridView for example GridView1.DataSource = context.CategoryHierarchy(1);): My questions is: How to display my data from my Complex Type in a TreeView Control, showing a Tree structure that respect CategoryNodeString? • Remote Ajax Call in jQuery .click() function doesn't finish before going to next page.

  I need to send click information on my website to a third party server using ajax (json). I am using jquery and I added the click event to certain links. In the click event I am making a json request to a remote server with the location of the click (heat map) and some other information. The problem is that the ajax function doesn't fire in time before the default link action happens. Setting async to false doesn't seem to work on remote ajax calls. I have tried preventDefault(), but then I don't know how to run the default action after the successful ajax call.   All, I have a PHP website written in Zend Framework and MVC. Most of the controller actions check if the request is an Ajax request or not, else they redirect the user to home page. I am thinking about various ways to break that site. I am considering the following scenario: A user creates his own PHP project on his Local machine. User writes a JQuery ajax post request to one of the controllers on my site and tries to post malicious info. Ex: $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: "https://marketsite/getinfo/getstuff", cache: false, dataType: "html", success: function(html_response){ alert(html_response); }, error: function(xhr,ajaxOptions,errorThrown){ alert(errorThrown); } }); My Question is does "url" attribute in the ajax request above take absolute path? • JQuery response is null but actual response is not

• How do I use BCP or Sql Server Management Studio to get BLOB data our of Sql Server?

  I'm sorry if this question has been asked already, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a table that stores files as BLOBS. The column that holds the file is an image datatype. I would like to be able to extract the binary data out of the column and turn it in to an actual file. I would ideally like to be able to do this with BCP or management studio if possible. I have tried BCP, but for some reason when I try and pull out an office document Word thinks it's corrupt. Here's what I've tried so far (obviously the values have been changed to protect the innocent :): bcp "select document_binary_data from database where id = 12345" queryout "c:\filename.doc" -n -S server -U username -P password This isn't working though? Any thoughts?
