  Hi, This is probably a very simple question but I'm new to nHibernate and I'm having trouble working this out. I have a Page object, which can have many Region objects. I also have a Workflow object. Page and Region objects both have a relationship to Workflow and it's this double association that I'm having trouble with. The PageMap has HasMany(Function(x) x.Regions).Cascade.All() And the RegionMap has: References(Function(x) x.Page) And this all seems to work. But how do I define the relationship between Workflow and these two objects?

• Efficient mapping of game entity positions in Java

  In Java (Swing), say I've got a 2D game where I have various types of entities on the screen, such as a player, bad guys, powerups, etc. When the player moves across the screen, in order to do efficient checking of what is in the immediate vicinity of the player, I would think I'd want indexed access to the things that are near the character based on their position. For example, if player 'P' steps onto element 'E' in the following example... | | | | | | | | | |P| | | | |E| | | | | | | | | ... would be to do something like: if(player.getPosition().x == entity.getPosition().x && entity.getPosition.y == thing.getPosition().y) { //do something } And thats fine, but that implies that the entities hold their positions, and therefor if I had MANY entities on the screen I would have to loop through all possible entities available and check each ones position against the player position. This seems really inefficient especially if you start getting tons of entities. So, I would suspect I'd want some sort of map like Map<Point, Entity> map = new HashMap<Point, Entity>(); And store my point information there, so that I could access these entities in constant time. The only problem with that approach is that, if I want to move an entity to a different point on the screen, I'd have to search through the values of the HashMap for the entity I want to move (inefficient since I dont know its Point position ahead of time), and then once I've found it remove it from the HashMap, and re-insert it with the new position information. Any suggestions or advice on what sort of data structure / storage format I ought to be using here in order to have efficient access to Entities based on their position, as well as Position's based on the Entity?

  Hello everyone, This is a beginner question, but it's been frustrating me... I am using C#, by the way. I'd like to make a few classes, each with their own properties and methods. I would also like to have a database to store certain instances of these classes in case I would ever need to look at them again. So, for example... class Polygon { String name; Double perimiter; int numSides; public Double GetArea() { // ... } } class Circle { String name; Double radius; public void PrintName() { // ... } } Say I've got these classes. I also want a database that has the TABLES "Polygon" and "Circle" with the COLUMNS "name" "perimeter" "radius" etc. And I want an easy way to save a class instance into the database, or pull a class instance out of the database. I have previously been using MS Access for my database stuff, which I don't mind using, but I would prefer if nothing other than .NET need to be installed. I've been researching online a bit, but I wanted to get some opinions on here. I have looked at Linq-to-Sql, but it seems you need Sql-Server. Is this true? If so, I'd really rather not use it because I don't want to have to have it installed everywhere. Anway, I'm just fishing for some ideas/insights/suggestions/etc. so please help me out if you can.   I'm trying to map my skills and responsibilities profile sections to one of the custom properties in Active Directory (extensionattribute1 , 2, etc). I'm entering comma seperated values in AD and it's importing the values fine but sees the comma seperated values as one value on import. i.e. 'C#,asp.net,javascript' rather than 'C#', 'asp.net', 'Javascript'. Any ideas. I'm almost there it's just not spliting the values correctly on import. thanks in Advance

  What could be the best practices of writing the following case: We have a controller which based on what paths users take, take different actions. For example: if user chooses the path /path1/hello it will say hello. If a user chooses /path1/bye?name="Philipp" it will invoke sayGoodBye() and etc. I have written a switch statement inside the controller which is simple, however IMO not efficient.   I am writing a test to verify something. This is not production code, just verification code. So I would appreciate it if the specific question was answered. I have code that uses indices and vertices to draw a set of triangles in the shape of a grid. All the vertices are drawn using glDrawElements(). Now for each vertex I will set its corresponding Texture Coordinates to 0 or 1 for each set of triangles that form a square in the grid. Basically I want to draw a collage of random textures in each one of the "squares" (consisting of two triangles). I can do this using the glBegin() and glEnd() method calls inside a for loop using the fixed functional pipeline, but I would like to know how to do this using Vertex Arrays.

  We have XML interfaces between multiple systems. An Enterprise Domain Model is missing in the overall architecture, hence the terms Product/Customer/User means different things to different systems. We currently use excel sheets to map the elements in incoming XML to what the actual Field means within our system. Additionally, it contains the values of Mandatory/Optional and length of each field. We call this the Data Dictionary. Any changes to the XML go through rounds of deliberation and updates to Word and Excel documents. Is there a better way to do this? Any tool/GUI based approach which all systems and owners can view?

• Mapping a URL to a service inside a class library

  I'm developing a small content management solution than can be used in any ASP.NET 3.5 website. The website references some dll's and then lets the aspx's inherit my page baseclass. Some configuration in web.config is also needed, but thats it. Now I'm building a standalone Silverlight editor for the CMS. My idea is that it should communicate with the server using web services. But the question is how to make this service available to the editor? I don't want the website developers having to bother with it. If I used a REST API rather than SOAP I could just create an HttpHandler in my class library and let the website developers add a handler to it in web.config with the path "editor" and then the editor could communicate with that handler on mywebsite.com/editor. Is there any way to achieve the same with a asmx or wcf service? The important thing is that the website developers never have to set up any asmx files or anything. They should only have to specify a url and map that url to a service inside my class library. Thanks in advance!

• Hibernate Relationship Mapping/Speed up batch inserts

  I have 5 MySQL InnoDB tables: Test,InputInvoice,InputLine,OutputInvoice,OutputLine and each is mapped and functioning in Hibernate. I have played with using StatelessSession/Session, and JDBC batch size. I have removed any generator classes to let MySQL handle the id generation- but it is still performing quite slow. Each of those tables is represented in a java class, and mapped in hibernate accordingly. Currently when it comes time to write the data out, I loop through the objects and do a session.save(Object) or session.insert(Object) if I'm using StatelessSession. I also do a flush and clear (when using Session) when my line count reaches the max jdbc batch size (50). Would it be faster if I had these in a 'parent' class that held the objects and did a session.save(master) instead of each one? If I had them in a master/container class, how would I map that in hibernate to reflect the relationship? The container class wouldn't actually be a table of it's own, but a relationship all based on two indexes run_id (int) and line (int). Another direction would be: How do I get Hibernate to do a multi-row insert?

This seems like something that NHibernate could address, but of course most of the information I find discusses going from objects to database instead of another data format (XML, in this case).   I'm a fluent nhibernate newbie and I'm struggling mapping a hierarchy of polymorhophic objects. I've produced the following Model that recreates the essence of what I'm doing in my real application. I have a ProductList and several specialised type of products; public class MyProductList { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string Name {get;set;} public virtual IList<Product> Products { get; set; } public MyProductList() { Products = new List<Product>(); } } public class Product { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string ProductDescription {get;set;} } public class SizedProduct : Product { public virtual decimal Size {get;set;} } public class BundleProduct : Product { public virtual Product BundleItem1 {get;set;} public virtual Product BundleItem2 {get;set;} } Note that I have a specialised type of Product called BundleProduct that has two products attached. I can add any of the specialised types of product to MyProductList and a bundle Product can be made up of any of the specialised types of product too. Here is the fluent nhibernate mapping that I'm using; public class MyListMap : ClassMap<MyList> { public MyListMap() { Id(ml => ml.Id); Map(ml => ml.Name); HasManyToMany(ml => ml.Products).Cascade.All(); } } public class ProductMap : ClassMap<Product> { public ProductMap() { Id(prod => prod.Id); Map(prod => prod.ProductDescription); } } public class SizedProductMap : SubclassMap<SizedProduct> { public SizedProductMap() { Map(sp => sp.Size); } } public class BundleProductMap : SubclassMap<BundleProduct> { public BundleProductMap() { References(bp => bp.BundleItem1).Cascade.All(); References(bp => bp.BundleItem2).Cascade.All(); } } I haven't configured have any reverse mappings, so a product doesn't know which Lists it belongs to or which bundles it is part of. Next I add some products to my list; MyList ml = new MyList() { Name = "Example" }; ml.Products.Add(new Product() { ProductDescription = "PSU" }); ml.Products.Add(new SizedProduct() { ProductDescription = "Extension Cable", Size = 2.0M }); ml.Products.Add(new BundleProduct() { ProductDescription = "Fan & Cable", BundleItem1 = new Product() { ProductDescription = "Fan Power Cable" }, BundleItem2 = new SizedProduct() { ProductDescription = "80mm Fan", Size = 80M } }); When I persist my list to the database and reload it, the list itself contains the items I expect ie MyList[0] has a type of Product, MyList[1] has a type of SizedProduct, and MyList[2] has a type of BundleProduct - great! If I navigate to the BundleProduct, I'm not able to see the types of Product attached to the BundleItem1 or BundleItem2 instead they are always proxies to the Product - in this example BundleItem2 should be a SizedProduct. Is there anything I can do to resove this either in my model or the mapping? Thanks in advance for your help.

• Is it possible to make a non-nullable column nullable when used in a view? (sql server)

  Hi, To start off I have two tables, PersonNames and PersonNameVariations. When a name is searched, it finds the closest name to one of the ones available in PersonNames and records it in the PersonNameVariations table if it's not already in there. I am using a stored proc to search the PersonNames for a passed in PersonNameVariationand return the information on both the PersonName found and the PersonNameVariation that was compared to it. Since I am using the Entity Framework, I needed return a complex type in the Import Function but for some reason it says my current framework doesn't support it. My last option was to use an Entity to return in my stored proc instead. The result that I needed back is the information on both the PersonName that was found and the PersonNameVariation that was recorded. Since I cannot return both entities, I created a view PersonSearchVariationInfo and added it into my Entity Framework in order to use it as the entity to return. The problem is that the search will not always return a Person Name match. It needs to be able to return only the PersonNameVariation data in some cases, meaning that all the fields in the PersonSearchVariationInfo pertaining to PersonName need to be nullable. How can I take my view and make some of the fields nullable? When I do it directly in the Entity Framework I get a mapping error: Error 4 Error 3031: Problem in mapping fragments starting at line 1202:Non-nullable column myproject_vw_PersonSearchVariationInfo.DateAdded in table myproject_vw_PersonSearchVariationInfo is mapped to a nullable entity property. C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\MyProject\MyProject.Domain\EntityFramework\MyProjectDBEntities.edmx 1203 15 MyProject.Domain Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Matt

• Using nhibernate <loader> element with HQL queries

  Hi All I'm attempting to use an HQL query in element to load an entity based on other entities. My class is as follows public class ParentOnly { public ParentOnly(){} public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string ParentObjectName { get; set; } } and the mapping looks like this <class name="ParentOnly"> <id name="Id"> <generator class="identity" /> </id> <property name="ParentObjectName" /> <loader query-ref="parentonly"/> </class> <query name="parentonly" > select new ParentOnly() from SimpleParentObject as spo where spo.Id = :id </query> The class that I am attemping to map on top of is SimpleParentObject, which has its own mapping and can be loaded and saved without problems. When I call session.Get(id) the sql runs correctly against the SimpleParentObject table, and the a ParentOnly object is instantiated (as I can step through the constructer), but only a null comes back, rather than the instantiated ParentOnly object. I can do this succesfully using a instead of the HQL, but am trying to build this in a database independent fashion. Any thoughts on how to get the and elements to return a populated ParentOnly object...? Thanks Matt

• Problem using custom HttpHandler to process requests for both .aspx and non-extension pages in IIS7

  I am trying to process both ".aspx" and non-extension page requests (i.e. both contact.aspx and /contact/) using a custom HttpHandler in IIS7. My handler works just fine in either one case or the other, but as soon as I try to process both cases, it only works for one. Please see Handlers snippet from my web.config below: If i keep only mapping to "*.aspx" then all .aspx requests are processed correctly, but obviously extensionless requests won't work: <add name="AllPages.ASPX" path="*.aspx" verb="*" type="Test.PageHandlerFactory, Test" preCondition="" /> If i change the mapping to "*" then all extensionless requests are processed correctly, but ".aspx" requests that should still be handled by this handler stop working. Note that i added the StaticFiles entry in order to process files that are on disk like images, css, js, etc. <add name="WebResource" path="WebResource.axd" verb="GET" type="System.Web.Handlers.AssemblyResourceLoader" /> <add name="StaticFiles" verb="GET,HEAD" path="*.*" type="System.Web.StaticFileHandler" resourceType="File" /> <add name="AllPages" path="*" verb="*" type="Test.PageHandlerFactory, Test" preCondition="" /> The crazy thing is that when i load an ".aspx" request (with the 2nd configuration shown) IIS7 gives a 404 not found error. The error also says that the request is processed by the StaticFiles handler. But I made sure to add resourceType="File" to the StaticFileHandler in order to avoid this. According to MS this means the request is only for "physical files on disk". Am i misreading/interpreting the "on disk" part? My .aspx file isn't on disk, that's why i want to use the handler in the first place.
