  • Are PackageMaker installations with preinstall scripts broken on Snow Leopard?

    Everything worked on 10.5, but now my PackageMaker installation project is broken.   • Sophos Enterprise Console 4.5, Mac Client 7 Not Auto-Populating SEC Info

    I have Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, which includes Sophos Enterprise Console (SEC). I'm currently running version 4.5 of SEC, which is an older version. I subscribe to Mac updates, and SEC generates a binary Mac installer for me to use on Mac endpoints (Version 7 for Mac, also an older version). However, when I run the installer on Mac endpoints, it installs fine but then never auto-fills out the location of the update server, which is on a network share, and the account credentials used to access it, which I do not know and were generated by Sophos automatically. Previously, I had been able to use the SEC-generated installer to install and run Sophos on a Mac seamlessly; the update location information and account credentials were automatically filled during login, I ran the installer and it was perfectly set up. Now, however, Sophos installs on a Mac but never updates because it doesn't have the update location OR credentials. Has anyone else run across this problem or know why it is happening?   • Security risk of JIRA standalone installation running JRE version 1.6.0_26 vs 1.6.0_29 (latest)

    Atlassian recently introduced a standalone installer that installs JIRA, along with its own JRE. Unfortunately the JRE Atlassian bundles with this installer is 1.6.0_26, whereas the current version of the JRE is 1.6.0_29. This is potentially concerning given there were vulnerabilities in _26 that were fixed in the subsequent versions. We are currently using the bundled-installer version of JIRA and one contractor has recommended we ditch this for the system-installed JRE. My question is this: what is the actual security risk of continuing to use the _26 version of the JRE included in the bundled installer? There is no public access to our install of JIRA (only about 20 employees and contractors can login to our JIRA) and it's only accessible on a subdomain of a domain at which there's no publicly-available website. If there's a not insignificant risk inherent in sticking with the older JRE, why hasn't Atlassian upgraded the default JRE?

  • Installing isolated instance of MySQL on Windows using silent install with .msi

    I'm trying to write an installer for an internal application we wrote. After it installs our application it then installs MySQL using the .msi installer in silent mode. I specify the install dir and data dir to that of a directory within my application's install directory, such as: msiexec /i @@MYSQL_INSTALLER_FILE@@ /qn INSTALLDIR="@@INSTALL_DIR@@\MySQL\" DATADIR="@@INSTALL_DIR@@\MySQL\" USERNAME="@@DB_USER@@" PASSWORD="@@DB_PASS@@" (the @@variable@@'s are replace by my installer routine using InstallJammer) Once installed, I use mysqld.exe to install a windows service with a custom service name and defaults file like so: mysqld.exe --install CustomMySQL --defaults-file="@@INSTALL_DIR@@\MySQL\my.ini" This works fine as long as there is not already another instance of MySQL installed. If there is it silently fails to install MySQL. Running the msi installer manually (double-click) shows an error that a previous version is already installed and just aborts. Is there a way to automate installing MySQL as an isolated instance, regardless of whether another version/instance is already installed?

  • Why do I get a My Disney window when installing VMWare Workstation?

    I'm assuming this is a virus, though my virus checker can't find it. I downloaded the latest vmware workstation 7 installer. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I go to install it, and the installer window is a Disney website. Upon further investigation, what's happening is that the vmware installer extracts/writes a bunch of files to a temp directory. One of those files is an index.htm file. When I open it, sure enough it's the Disney file. I used sysinternals Process Monitor to look for anything fishy, but the only thing I see touching that index.htm file is the vmware installer and explorer.exe

    I use PXE debian installer and install it from the local network mirror. It only offers to install "squeeze - stable" despite of there are both squeeze and lenny on the mirror. How to force it to install oldstable (lenny)? When I use legacy network-boot installer, it offers both "oldstable - lenny" and "stable - squeeze", but when I use new one it only offers "stable - squeeze". Can the new installer install old Debian?

While virtual box installs on win7 32 bit, the installer eventually fails under win7 64-bit - are there any tricks I need to be aware of ? I'm already running the installer as Administrator. The installer stops at this point for about 3-4 minutes And eventually fails with EDIT - added another image.

    I'm new to Linux and just installed ubuntu 12.04 amd64 this month. I had failed installing Texlive with texlive2012 iso image. I used the recommended command to mount: "mount -t iso9660 -o ro,loop,noauto /your/texlive2012.iso /mnt " But the installer failed to read some file. The iso is fine, I checked the md5. I extracted everything from iso with archive manager, and it installed successfully. So, why mount is not working? Thanks.   • Do these 3 crashes have something in common?

    I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a Mac Mini. I tried to install 3 applications today and all 3 installations failed. I am wondering if the failures have something in common. First I installed GraphViz. The installation succeeded, but when I try to open any .dot file, I get a dialog that says GraphViz has quit unexpectedly. Next I installed Doxygen. It installed, but when I try to launch it I get a dialog that tells me Doxywizard quit unexpectedly. After some googling I thought perhaps my system lacked QT, and that was the problem. I downloaded the Qt 4.8.4 packages and installed them. But when I try to launch qtdemo.app, or any of the other apps that came with the qt installation, I get a dialog that says I can't open the app because it's not supported on this type of Mac. I have crash logs from GraphViz and Doxygen. They're long and I think it unnecessary to post them unless they would help someone determine my problem.   • USB Virus, "Program too big to fit in memory"?

    I got an installer for a piece of software via usb from a friend.Now what was weird was that although my friend and I had the same OS, same brand of laptop and I had a newer version (though I don't think this quite matters), the installer was running properly for him but not for me. It just showed a command line window and exited. I ran it via a batch file in which I included "pause" after running it. Here's the screenshot: Later my friend called me and told me that it was the USB that was the problem. It had some kind of virus on it and it corrupted every executable or folder on it , and it renamed all the sub_files inside folders to some weird jargon. He had tried using another USB and the installer worked fine. Now the friend has (unfortunately) gone back to his city and I can't get the installer again from him. My question is: Is there any way to repair the installer executable and run it? and Do you think the virus has infected my PC? (I have run a system scan with my antivirus and it showed nothing but still I'm worried)

When I go to Windows Installer and try to create a new partition from un-allocated space, I don't get any Error message but the installer is unable to create the partition. At the bottom of the installer window, there's a warning which says something like, Windows cannot install on MBR *partition. On EFI systems, Windows can only install on GPT *partition How can I convert MBR to GPT without any OS?

  • Problems installing Windows service via Group Policy in a domain

    I'm reasonably new to Group Policy administration and I'm trying to deploy an MSI installer via Active Directory to install a service. In reality, I'm a software developer trying to test how my service will be installed in a domain environment. My test environment: Server 2003 Domain Controller About 10 machines (between XP SP3, and server 2008) all joined to my domain. No real other setup, or active directory configuration has been done apart from things like getting DNS right. I suspect that I may be missing a step in Group Policy that says I need to grant an explicit permission somewhere, but I have no idea where that might be or what it will say. What I've done: I followed the documentation from Microsoft in How to Deploy Software via Group Policy, so I believe all those steps are correct (I used the UNC path, verified NTFS permissions, I have verified the computers and users are members of groups that are assigned to receive the policy etc). If I deploy the software via the Computer Configuration, when I reboot the target machine I get the following: When the computer starts up it logs Event ID 108, and says "Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. Software changes could not be applied. A previous log entry with details should exist. The error was: An operations error occurred." There are no previous log entries to check, which is weird because if it ever actually tried to invoke the windows installer it should log any sort of failure of my application's installer. If I open a command prompt and manually run: msiexec /qb /i \\[host]\[share]\installer.msi It installs the service just fine. If I deploy the software via the User Configuration, when I log that user in the Event Log says that software changes were applied successfully, but my service isn't installed. However, when deployed via the User configuration even though it's not installed when I go to Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs and click on Add New Programs my service installer is being advertised and I can install/remove it from there. (this does not happen when it's assigned to computers) Hopefully that wall of text was enough information to get me going, thanks all for the help.

  • Bundler doesn't want to install hpricot on Windows XP with Ruby 1.8.7

    Hello I develop on a Windows machine but deploy to Debian. Trying to use hpricot with Rails 3 app. I can get the gem to install using : gem install hpricot --platform=mswin32 But when I do this in the bundle file - it keeps throwing an error (I think it's trying to install the wrong version of hpricot (not windows specific) group :production do gem "hpricot", "0.8.3" end group :development, :test do gem "hpricot", "0.8.3", :platforms => [:mswin, :mingw] end This is from another question here on stackoverflow - but it's not working for me. Any ideas?     Since quite some time Adobe Technologies released the Linux version of Adobe AIR to bring web applications and widgets to your desktop. Installing new applications on a Linux system is not always as easy as switching the computer on. The following instructions might be helpful to install Adobe AIR on any Linux system. First of all, get the latest installer of Adobe AIR from http://get.adobe.com/air/ - as of writing this article the file name is AdobeAIRInstaller.bin. Save the download in your preferred folder. Now, there are two ways to run the installer - visual style or console style. Visual Installation Launch your favorite or standard file manager like thunar or nautilus and browse to the folder where the AdobeAIRInstaller.bin has been saved. Right click on the file and choose 'Properties' in the context menu Set 'Execute' permissions and confirm modifications with OK Rename file into AdobeAIRInstaller Double click and follow the instructions Using the console Open a terminal like xterm Change into the directory where you stored the download Run this command:[code]chmod +x AdobeAIRInstaller.bin[/code] Now run this command:[code]sudo ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin[/code] The normal installer will open, install it.   • Solution for installing the ADF 11.1.1.6.0 Runtimes onto a standalone WLS 10.3.6

    A few customers are hitting the following problem with regards to JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 so it's worth documenting a solution. As noted in my previous post the ADF Runtimes for JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 will work against a 10.3.5 and 10.3.6 WLS server.  In terms of the JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 download Oracle has coupled the 10.3.5 server with that release, not a 10.3.6 server. This has caught some customers out as they are attempting to use the JDeveloper installer to load the 11.1.1.6.0 ADF Runtimes into the middleware home of a standalone 10.3.6 WLS server.  When doing so the installer complains as follows: "The product maintenance level of the current server (WebLogic Server: 10.3.5.0) is not compatible with the maintenance level of the product installed on your system (WebLogic Server: 10.3.6.0).  Please obtain a compatible installer or perform maintenance or your current system to achieve the desired level." The solution is to install the runtimes using the standalone 11.1.1.6.0 ADF Runtime Libraries installer available from OTN (see the options under "Application Development Runtime").

  • how to install Ubuntu on a fresh hard drive

    I attempted to install Ubuntu from a USB stick to my Intel 4 3GHz computer with 80GB HDD. The installer was doing well, then it said something to the effect of "errors on the source USB, or the target HDD" The recommendation was to download the installer again. I suspected my HDD was going bad so I figured I would investigate. What I found was a partially formatted 80GB HDD. I repartitioned it via a different computer. Now a fresh copy of the Ubuntu USB installer is not able to move past the start-up screen (it freezes). I was able to purchase a new / clean HDD, but still the fresh copy of the installer still locks up after the initial opening screen (locks up after about 2 screens worth of installations steps). Does this sounds like a HDD NTHS issue or a CPU/hardware/memory issue? or should I move to a CD image file rather than my USB stick? Now my computer is stuck... no OS.. no way to go back to Windows (upgrade OS CD only). Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Stuck in Schenectady Herman Wiegman

  • Oracle EZConnect in Mediawiki

    Mediawiki supports Oracle and I'm trying to configure it in the installer. The installers says you can use EZConnect...something like: user/pass@//server.example.com/dbname or since the installer has fields elsewhere for user/pass server.example.com/dbname The installer includes a link to the EZConnect docs: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/network.112/e10836/naming.htm. All the examples in that doc include a forward slash. But every combination I've tried results in an error like this: Invalid database TNS "sever.example.com/service_name". Use only ASCII letters (a-z, A-Z), numbers (0-9), underscores (_) and dots (.). I can't find any examples of EZConnect that don't include a forward slash. That error is from Mediawiki, not Oracle. I'm tailing the listener log and there is no connection made - Medaiwiki is returning an error without trying to connect. I'm using php OCI8 with the Oracle instant client. I don't have a tnsnames.ora setup for this client - which is kind of the point of EZConnect. I did write a test php script that connects via oci_connect just fine. Has anyone configured Mediawiki to use Oracle with EZConnect? If so, what did you use in the installer?

  • Python on Mac: Fink? MacPorts? Builtin? Homebrew? Binary installer?

    For the last few days, I have been trying to use Python for some audio development. The thing is, Mac OSX does not handle uninstalling stuff well. Actually, there is no way to uninstall anything. Once it is on your system, you better pray that it didn't do any funny stuff. Hence, I don't really want to rely on installer packages for Python. So I turn to Homebrew and install Python using Homebrew. Works fabulously. Using pip, Numpy, SciPy, Matplotlib were no (big) problem, either. Now I want to play audio. There is a host of different packages out there, but pip does not seem willing to install any. But, there is a binary distribution for PyGame, which I guess should work with the built-in Python. Hence my question: What would you do? Would you just install the binary distributions and hope that they interoperate well and never need uninstalling? Would you hack your way through whichever package control management system you prefer and deal with its problems? Something else?

  • How do I install pepper-flash on Chromium?

    I have Chromium web browser on my Lubuntu 13.04 (pre-installed). I use LX Terminal (pre-installed) to write commands. I am trying to download flash player on Chromium using instructions on this site : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:skunk/pepper-flash After typing in my password, this worked. Now sudo apt-get update I didn't need to type in my password, as I continued on the same terminal, but got W:/ and E:/ fetch file errors sudo apt-get install pepflashplugin-installer I continued on the same terminal despite the fetch file errors... and they said pepflashplugin-installer could not be found. Is the last error because of fetch file errors, or because I need to download pepflash-plugin-installer somewhere? Or is it because of something else? I cannot download the Chrome browser, and not looking to use flash player on my Firefox web browser (installed using lubuntu software centre).
