  • How to define the order with ImportMany attribute?

    Hi to all, I am just getting into MEF and was wondering how you could define the order of collection exported with [ImportMany]? What I mean here is if I had two classes (Class1, Class2) that implement the interface IService and each of the implementations are in two different libraries (although they could be in the same), I want the Class2 instance to be created before the Class1 instance in the IEnumerable collection defined by the ImportMany attribute. So it is like a pipeline of functionality where Class2 calls are made before Class1 calls. Also, I have an another Class (Class3 which also implements IService) in another library, which I want introduced later on (i.e. some logging utility), how do I make this the 3rd instance in the ImportMany collection?   • NUnit not running Suite tests

    I've created a test suite in NUnit that references several distinct unit test fixtures in various assemblies. I've pretty much used the example code from NUnit's docs: namespace NUnit.Tests { using System; using NUnit.Framework; using System.Collections; public class AllTests { [Suite] public static IEnumerable Suite { get { ArrayList suite = new ArrayList(); suite.Add(new VisionMap.DotNet.Tests.ManagedInteropTest.DotNetUtilsTest()); return suite; } } } } My goal is to add several tests to the list above so I can run them all in a batch. But when I try to load the DLL in NUnit's GUI I get this: What am I doing wrong? I'm using nunit 2.5.0.9122.

  • How do I improve the efficiency of the queries executed by this generic Linq-to-SQL data access clas

    Hi all, I have a class which provides generic access to LINQ to SQL entities, for example: class LinqProvider<T> //where T is a L2S entity class { DataContext context; public virtual IEnumerable<T> GetAll() { return context.GetTable<T>(); } public virtual T Single(Func<T, bool> condition) { return context.GetTable<T>().SingleOrDefault(condition); } } From the front end, both of these methods appear to work as you would expect. However, when I run a trace in SQL profiler, the Single method is executing what amounts to a SELECT * FROM [Table], and then returning the single entity that meets the given condition. Obviously this is inefficient, and is being caused by GetTable() returning all rows. My question is, how do I get the query executed by the Single() method to take the form SELECT * FROM [Table] WHERE [condition], rather than selecting all rows then filtering out all but one? Is it possible in this context? Any help appreciated, Lee

CS0103: The name 'item' does not exist in the current context I can't see why it would be doing this as I'm passing item into the partial view?

I have an expression to query the xml: Expression<Func<XElement, bool>> simpleXmlFunction = b => int.Parse(b.Element("FooId").Value) == 12; used in: var simpleXml = xml.Elements("Foo").Where(simpleXmlFunction).First(); The design time error is: The type arguments for method 'System.Linq.Enumerable.Where(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable, System.Func)' cannot be inferred from the usage. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly' The delegate supplied to Where should take in an XElement and return a bool, marking if the item matches the query, I am not sure how to add anything more to the delegate or the where clause to mark the type. Also, the parallel method for the real function against the Entity Framework does not have this issue. What is not correct with the LINQ-to-XML version?

    I'm using the following code sample to get a list of all users in a specified AD group (in this case, all users in the "Domain Users" group). My listed code works great, with one exception: it won't return users who have their primary group set to "Domain Users". How can I get a list of all users in the group, including those who have it set as their primary group?   • Is it possible to create ICriteria/ICriterion from LINQ or HQL?

    I am creating a method that can create filter understood by NHibernate (by filter i mean a set of ICriteria object for example) from my abstract filter object. public static IEnumerable<ICriterion> ToNhCriteria(this MyCriteria criteria) { // T4 generated function // lots of result.Add(Expression.Or(Expression.Eq(),Expression.Eq)) expression trees - hard to generate // Is there a way to generate HQL/Linq query here istead? } then i want to do something like session.CreateCriteria<Entity>().Add(myCriteria.ToNhCriteria()) to filter entities. The problem is that using Expression. methods (Expression.Or etc) is quite tedious (the method is generated and i have multiple or statements that have to be joined into an expression somehow). Is there a way to avoid using Expression.Or() and create ICrietrion / ICriteria using LINQ or HQL?

    I am creating some tag functionality for a forum using linq2sql, and I have two tables [Tag] TagId TagName [ForumTagRelation] TagId ForumId I would like to retrieve, like SO, the most popular tags. I have tried to do this by: List<Tag> popularTags = db.Tags.Select(x => x.ForumTagRelations.GroupBy(y => y.TagId).OrderByDescending(z => z.Count())).Take(count).ToList(); But this just returns the following error: Error 1 Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Collections.Generic.List<System.Linq.IOrderedEnumerable<System.Linq.IGrouping<System.Guid?,SampleWebsite.ForumTagRelation>>>' to 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<SampleWebsite.Tag>'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) The question is how I easily can return a list of tags which has the most counts in the ForumTagRelation table?

    I have a WinForms multiselect listbox, and each item in the listbox is of type MyClass. I am also writing a method that needs to take a parameter that is a collection of MyClass. It could be of type MyClass[], List<MyClass>, IList<MyClass>, IEnumerable<MyClass>, etc. Any of those would work fine. Somehow, I need to pass the selected items in the listbox to my method. But how would I convert SelectedObjectCollection to any of the MyClass collection types described above?

    I have the following class public class Person { private IList<Person> _children; public IEnumerable<Person> Children { get; } public void AddChild(Person child) { // Some business logic and adding to the internal list } } What changes would I have to make for NHibenrate to be able to persist the Child collection (apart from making everything virtual, I know that one). Do I have to add a setter to the children property which does something like a _children.Clear(); _children.AddRange(value). Currently the model expresses my intent quite nicely but I'm not sure how much alteration is need for NH to be able to help me out with persistence.

  • Different return XML in a WCF Operation

    I am writing a service to a international HTTP standard, and there is one method that can return three different XML results, call them Single, Multiple and Error. Now I've written an IXmlSerializable class that can consume each of these results and generate them. However, WCF seems to insist that I can only have a single return XML root name. I have to choose an XmlRoot for my custom object of either Single, Multiple or Error. How can I set up WCF so that I can choose at runtime what the root will be?     I like private readonly backing fields because some objects are mostly read-only after creation, and for collections, which rarely need to be set wholesale (instead using collection methods to modify the collection).     Following on from my question here, I'm trying to create a generic value equality comparer. I've never played with reflection before so not sure if I'm on the right track, but anyway I've got this idea so far: bool ContainSameValues<T>(T t1, T t2) { if (t1 is ValueType || t1 is string) { return t1.Equals(t2); } else { IEnumerable<PropertyInfo> properties = t1.GetType().GetProperties().Where(p => p.CanRead); foreach (var property in properties) { var p1 = property.GetValue(t1, null); var p2 = property.GetValue(t2, null); if( !ContainSameValues<p1.GetType()>(p1, p2) ) return false; } } return true; } This doesn't compile because I can't work out how to set the type of T in the recursive call. Is it possible to do this dynamically at all? There are a couple of related questions on here which I have read but I couldn't follow them enough to work out how they might apply in my situation.

    So for instance you have a type like: public class EffectOptions { public EffectOptions ( params object [ ] options ) {} public EffectOptions ( IEnumerable<object> options ) {} public EffectOptions ( string name ) {} public EffectOptions ( object owner ) {} public EffectOptions ( int count ) {} public EffectOptions ( Point point ) {} } Here I just give the example using constructors but the result will be the same if they were non-constructor methods on the type itself, right? So when you do: EffectOptions options = new EffectOptions (null); which constructor would be called, and why? I could test this myself but I want to understand how the overload resolution system works (not sure if that's what it's called).

An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) From this query ShoppingCartItems items = Cart.GetAllItems(); ShoppingCartCartAddons addons = Cart.GetAllAddons(); var stuff = from x in items select new ShoppingCartItem() { ProductID = x.ProductID, Quantity = x.Quantity, Name = x.Name, Price = x.Price, Weight = x.Weight, Addons = (from y in addons where y.ShoppingCartItemID == x.ID select y) }; I can not figure out how to cast this properly.   • ASP.Net Layered app - Share Entity Data Model amongst layers

    How can I share the auto-generated entity data model (generated object classes) amongst all layers of my C# web app whilst only granting query access in the data layer? This uses the typical 3 layer approach: data, business, presentation. My data layer returns an IEnumerable<T> to my business layer, but I cannot return type T to the presentation layer because I do not want the presentation layer to know of the existence of the data layer - which is where the entity framework auto-generated my classes. It was recommended to have a seperate layer with just the data model, but I'm unsure how to seperate the data model from the query functionality the entity framework provides.

  • What is the best solution to do Reporting on Object data for .NET ?

    Hi, Our projects are using objects as the data source to reports. Our business layer is returning single objects or IEnumerable. Our reports (quite complex) need to display value-type properties of the object, and its related objects. Typical case would be, from a List, display a master report with category data, then a subreport with data for each Product inside each Category, then a subreport for each Part of each Product, and so on. Reporting from the database is not an option for us. We have tried so far - Reporting Services : works but have to mess around with the XML definition of the report to define the datasource classes, very hard to work with if you use an object datasource, architecturally not too clean - Telerik Reports : quite nice (esp., nice architecture) but seems to have problems with complex reports (master/sub), does not give great paging control, rumored to have performance/crash problems (immature product). Does anyone know a good reporting solution that can be integrated in an ASP.NET application and works well with objects as datasources ?

    I want to select and group the products, and rank them by the number of times they occur. For example, I have an OrderList each of order object has a OrderProductVariantList(OrderLineList), and each of OrderProductVariant object has ProductVariant, and then the ProductVariant object will have a Product object which contains product information. A friend helped me with the following code. It could be compiled, but it did not return any value/result. I used the watch window for the query and it gave me "The name 'query' does not exist in the current context". Can anyone help me?   • Problem with ASP.NET MVC DropDownList not displaying selected value

    I have an aspx page which allows me to edit articles. Among things I can edit is which category the article belongs to. The category is chosen through a DropDownList as shown here, <%= Html.DropDownList("categoryID", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["CategoryID"], new { @class = "textbox" }) %> However, the articles category isn't selected when I go to that page. The ViewData I use for the DropDownList looks like this, ViewData["CategoryID"] = new SelectList(categories, "CategoryID", "Title", article.CategoryID); Which should select the article.CategoryID as it's selected value. Have I done this wrong?

  • Is C# 4.0 Tuple covariant

    (I would check this out for myself, but I don't have VS2010 (yet)) Say I have 2 base interfaces: IBaseModelInterface IBaseViewInterface And 2 interfaces realizing those: ISubModelInterface : IBaseModelInterface ISubViewInterface : IBaseViewInterface If I define a Tuple<IBaseModelInterface, IBaseViewInterface> I would like to set that based on the result of a factory that returns Tuple<ISubModelInterface, ISubViewInterface>. In C# 3 I can't do this even though the sub interfaces realize the base interfaces. And I'm pretty sure C# 4 lets me do this if I was using IEnumerable<IBaseModelInterface> because it's now defined with the in keyword to allow covariance. So does Tuple allow me to do this? From what (little) I understand, covariance is only allowed on interfaces, so does that mean there needs to be an ITuple<T1, T2> interface? Does this exist?

If I do this: foreach(Policy p in policy){ if(!p.Entity.IsLoaded) p.Entity.Load(); IEnumerable<Entity> entities= from ent in p.Entity Where ent.EntityType.DESCRIPTION=="SomeEntityType" select ent; Console.Writeline(entities.ElementAt(0).NAME); } It says, "Object not set to an instance", but if I do: foreach(Policy p in policy){ if(!p.Entity.IsLoaded) p.Entity.Load(); foreach(Entity et in p.Entity)Console.Write(et.NAME); } It works!
