• C# - InvalidCastException when fetching double from sqlite

  I keep getting a InvalidCastException when I'm fetching any double from my SQLite database in C#. The exception says "Specified cast is not valid." I am able to see the value in a SQL manager so I know it exists. It is possible to fetch Strings (VARCHARS) and ints from the database. I'm also able to fetch the value as an object but then I get "66.0" when it's suppose to be "66,8558604947586" (latitude coordination). Any one who knows how to solve this? My code: using System.Data.SQLite; ...   I'm working on an ASP.NET website where I am using an asp:repeater with paging done through a VB.NET code-behind file. I'm having trouble with the database connection though. As far as I can tell, the paging is working, but I can't get the data to be certain. The database is a Microsoft Access database. • C# PInvoke VerQueryValue returns back OutOfMemoryException?

  Hi, Below is the code sample which I got from online resource but it's suppose to work with fullframework, but when I try to build it using C# smart device, it throws exception saying it's out of memory.   I've got a chunk of code where I can pass info into a MySQL command using parameters through an ODBC connection. Example code showing surname passed in using string surnameToLookFor: using (OdbcConnection DbConn = new OdbcConnection( connectToDB )) { OdbcDataAdapter cmd = new OdbcDataAdapter( "SELECT Firstname, Address, Postcode FROM customers WHERE Surname = ?", DbConn); OdbcParameter odbcParam = new OdbcParameter("surname", surnameToLookFor); cmd.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(odbcParam); cmd.Fill(dsCustomers, "customers"); } What I'd like to know is whether I can indicate where my parameter should go more meaningfully than just having a ? to mark the position - as I could see this getting quite hard to debug if there are multiple parameters being replaced. I'd like to provide a name to the parameter in a manner something like this: SELECT Firstname, Address, Postcode FROM customers WHERE Surname = ?surname ", When I try this it just chokes. • Variant datatype library for C

  Is there a decent open-source C library for storing and manipulating dynamically-typed variables (a.k.a. variants)? I'm primarily interested in atomic values (int8, int16, int32, uint, strings, blobs, etc.), while JSON-style arrays and objects as well as custom objects would also be nice. A major case where such a library would be useful is in working with SQL databases. The most obvious feature of such a library would be a single type for all supported values, e.g.: struct Variant { enum Type type; union { int8_t int8_; int16_t int16_; // ... }; }; Other features might include converting Variant objects to/from C structures (using a binding table), converting values to/from strings, and integration with an existing database library such as SQLite. Note: I do not believe this is question is a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/649649/any-library-for-generic-datatypes-in-c , which refers to "queues, trees, maps, lists". What I'm talking about focuses more on making working with SQL databases roughly as smooth as working with them in interpreted languages.

  I am putting together a lightweight MVP pattern for a WinForms project. Everything compiles and runs fine. However when I attempt to open the WinForm in design mode in Visual Studio I get a "Illegal characters in path" error. My WinForm is using generics and inheriting from a base Form class. Is there a problem with using generics in a WinForm? • Why does calling abort() on ajax request cause error in ASP.Net MVC (IE8)

  I use jquery to post to an MVC controller action that returns a table of information. The user of the page triggers this by clicking on various links. In the event the user decides to click a bunch of these links in quick succession I wanted to cancel any previous ajax request that may not have finished. I've found that when I do this (although its fine from the client's POV) I will get errors on the web application saying that "The parameters dictionary contains a null entry for parameter srtCol of non-nullable type 'System.Int32'" Now the ajax post deffinately passes in all the parameters, and if I don't try and cancel the ajax request it works just fine. But if I do cancel the request by calling abort() on the XMLHttpRequest object that ajax() returns before it finishes I get the error from ASP.Net MVC. Example: //Cancel any pevious request if (req) { req.abort(); req = null; } //Make new request req= $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: "/Myapp/GetTbl", data: {srtCol: srt, view: viewID}, success: OnSuccess, error: OnError, dataType: "html" }); I've noticed this only happen is IE8. In FF it seems to not cuase a problem. Does anyone know how to cancel an ajax request in IE8 without causing errors for MVC? Thanks for any help.

• From VB6 to .net via COM and Remoting...What a mess!

  I have some legacy vb6 applications that need to talk to my .Net engine application. The engine provides an interface that can be connected to via .net Remoting. Now I have a stub class library that wraps all of the types that the interface exposes. The purpose of this stub is to translate my .net types into COM-friendly types. When I run this class library as a console application, it is able to connect to the engine, call various methods, and successfully return the wrapped types. The next step in the chain is to allow my VB6 application to call this COM enabled stub. This works fine for my main engine-entry type (IModelFetcher which is wrapped as COM_ModelFetcher). However, when I try and get any of the model fetcher's model types (IClientModel, wrapped as COM_IClientModel, IUserModel, wrapped as COM_IUserModel, e.t.c.), I get the following exception: [Exception - type: System.InvalidCastException 'Return argument has an invalid type.'] in mscorlib at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.ValidateReturnArg(Object arg, Type paramType) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PropagateOutParameters(IMessage msg, Object[] outArgs, Object returnValue) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.HandleReturnMessage(IMessage reqMsg, IMessage retMsg) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PrivateInvoke(MessageData& msgData, Int32 type) at AWT.Common.AWTEngineInterface.IModelFetcher.get_ClientModel() at AWT.Common.AWTEngineCOMInterface.COM_ModelFetcher.GetClientModel() The first thing I did when I saw this was to handle the 'AppDomain.CurrentDomain.AssemblyResolve' event, and this allowed me to load the required assemblies. Can someone help me untie myself from this mess of interprocess communication?!

  I have a form with an OleDbConnection object on it. This form fails to load in the Form Designer with the message: One or more errors encountered while loading the designer. The errors are listed below. Some errors can be fixed by rebuilding your project, while others may require code changes. Invalid authorization specification at ADODB.ConnectionClass.Open(String ConnectionString, String UserID, String Password, Int32 Options) ... (stack trace continues into user code) I've tracked this down to the OleDbConnection string. If I hardcode in the server IP, username/password/dbinstance into the constructor of the GUI form then the form will load in the designer. At run-time it is not an issue because we require the user to provide the login details. The question: Is it possible to use the OleDbConnection and the Form designer without supplying the database credentials in the source code of the form? For example, is there a property of the OleDbConnection or Form that I can set so that it doesn't need to access the database during Form design? My concern is that if we ever move the database server or change the login that the code will stop working in the designer.

  I use Oracle's specific data provider, not the Microsoft provider that is being discontinued. The thing I've found about ODP.NET is how picky it is with data types. Where JDBC and other ADO providers just convert and make things work, ODP.NET will throw an invalid cast exception unless you get it exactly right. Consider this code: String strSQL = "SELECT DOCUMENT_SEQ.NEXTVAL FROM DUAL"; OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand(strSQL, conn); reader = cmd.ExecuteReader(); if (reader != null && reader.Read()) { Int64 id = reader.GetInt64(0); return id; } Due to ODP.NET's pickiness on conversion, this doesn't work. My usual options are: 1) Retrieve into a Decimal and return it with a cast to an Int64 (I don't like this because Decimal is just overkill, and at least once I remember reading it was deprecated...) Decimal id = reader.GetDecimal(0); return (Int64)id; 2) Or cast in the SQL statement to make sure it fits into Int64, like NUMBER(18) String strSQL = "SELECT CAST(DOCUMENT_SEQ.NEXTVAL AS NUMBER(18)) FROM DUAL"; I do (2), because I feel its just not clean pulling a number into a .NET Decimal when my domain types are Int32 or Int64. Other providers I've used are nice (smart) enough to do the conversion on the fly. Any suggestions from the ODP.NET gurus?

  I don't know if its possible or not, but here's what I need. I'm toying around with something and want to know if its possible since you can't create your own data type based on a sealed type such as int, Int32, Int64, etc. I want to create a top-level class that is defined of a given type with some common stuff. Then, derive this into two subclasses, but in this case, each class is based on either and int or Int64 type. From THAT instance, create an instance of either one and know its yped basis for parameter referenc / return settings. So when I need to create an instance of the "ThisClass", I don't have to know its type basis of either int or Int64, yet IT will know the type and be able to allow methods/functions to be called with the typed... This way, If I want to change my ThisClass definition from SubLevel1 to SubLevel2, I don't have to dance around all different data type definitions. Hope this makes sense.. public class TopLevel<T> { ... } pubic class SubLevel1 : TopLevel<int> { ... } public class SubLevel2 : TopLevel<Int64> { ... } public class ThisClass : SubLevel1 { ... public <based on the Int data type from SubLevel1> SomeFunc() { return <the Int value computed>; } }

• How to read a database record with a DataReader and add it to a DataTable

  Hello I have some data in a Oracle database table(around 4 million records) which i want to transform and store in a MSSQL database using ADO.NET. So far i used (for much smaller tables) a DataAdapter to read the data out of the Oracle DataBase and add the DataTable to a DataSet for further processing. When i tried this with my huge table, there was a outofmemory exception thrown. ( I assume this is because i cannot load the whole table into my memory) :) Now i am looking for a good way to perform this extract/transfer/load, without storing the whole table in the memory. I would like to use a DataReader and read the single dataRecords in a DataTable. If there are about 100k rows in it, I would like to process them and clear the DataTable afterwards(to have free memory again).
