• Updating Network Solutions Virtual Private Server

  Just got a VPS from Network Solutions, it's got Red Hat 4, PHP 5.16, Java 1.4, no Yum and a whole bunch of packages I'd expect to have from a fresh install. Anyway, obviously I sound like a spoiled Ubunutoligist, but do I seriously have to manually update all this stuff, is there a shortcut, I'm used to Fedora, so I'm not sure what the differences are between using Yum in Redhat and Fedora. Should I just demand that Network Solutions give me a server that's not 4 years old or is there a way to update this thing that won't take all week?

• OpenSSL x509 Purpose flag "Any Purpose" What is this?

  Looking at the details of a certificate using the following: openssl x509 -noout -text -purpose -in mycert.pem I find a bunch of purpose flags (which I've discovered are set by the various extensions attached to a certificate). One of these purpose flags is "Any Purpose". I can't seem to find ANY documentation on this flag and why or why not it is set. • What are these folders in the root of my drive?

  The following folders keep showing up: C:\Default\ C:\NativeImages\ They both have a ton of folders in them witha bunch of html files in each folder. I'm assuming this has something to do with NGEN because of the NativeImages folder. How do I get rid of these folders and keep them from coming back? Or otherwise move them so they get put somewhere else? Thanks

• Is there a way to map a local drive letter in a Virtual PC Guest O/S to a host drive?

  I have a bunch of programming projects on my P:\ drive (on Windows 7) I'm now doing some programming within Virtual PC Windows XP Mode and I'd like to "call" that drive, within the Win XP guest, the P: drive. I've mapped drive letter P: to "network" drive on the Host but that goes across the network so it's very slow. I tried using the SUBST command but it wouldn't take the \tsclients\p as a parameter. Basically, the command line interpreter (is that DOS on Win 7 ??) doesn't recognize that directory (\tsclients\p)

• Software or testing pipeline for testing multiple hard drives

How do I change the owner to be the server name? and How do I find out what name the server is using? • Resolving File Permissions ERROR when moving files from one user to another

  I am creating a tarball from a bunch of files in one machine under my $USER - I have set execute permissions to all the files, but when I copy it over to another user in a different machine, there is an 'access permission denied error' when that user tries to access some of the files. • Run QuickTime from command line to export video

  I have a bunch of avi's I am converting to m4v, and I can do this in QuickTime by opening the video and then go 'Save As', select a folder, select the type (iPhone, Movie, etc), blah blah blah. It seems that I can get the servers working from both localhost and from another computer on the network. However, the xbox cannot detect any of these. • How do I combine MP4 videos? [closed]

• Any simple tools for re-loading a specified web page periodically (Windows)?

  I've got a website that is exhibiting slow performance on the first load and would like to attempt to load it every 5 minutes or so to keep the cache fresh. Are there any simple tools to accomplish this? Scheduled tasks doesn't have quite the time resolution I need. The tricky thing is that this site uses Windows authentication so a wget script won't work. I'm also worried about instantiating a bunch of copies of internet explorer or attempting to kill iexplore.exe tasks blindly.

  Hi All, Someone told me that one can enable Windows Mobile simply by creating a bunch of registry values as explained in this TechEd article. The article is in the scopê of MS System Configuration Manager but my client tells me that the logs can be created even without System Config Manager. • Wireshark vs Netmon for precise time tagging

  I'm using Wireshark to time tag and get some statistics on multicast traffic. When there is not much traffic, the stats looks good, but as soon as there is a bunch of packets arriving at the same time, I have stats that are not even possible (e.g. round trip time of 0ms) I'm wondering if Netmon could be more precise in time tagging packet because it is not relying on the Winpcap driver?   Hello, I am using virtualBox with windows datacenter to play around with some web development. The last time I had to shut down the computer, it installed an update and shut down normally. When I rebooted, it started doing a checkdisk and processed a bunch of files (from hard poweroffs before mabey). Now when I start, I get a bluescreen of death every time it loads (Safe mode,etc) I have googled around for a boot / recovery disk, but can't seem to find one for datacenter. Cheers -Will

  I've been testing native vhd boot on several servers, and it seems to be pretty transparent and none of my seat of the pants testing has notice any difference in performance.
