  • Visual C++ function suddenly 170 ms slower (4x longer)

    For the past few months I've been working on a Visual C++ project to take images from cameras and process them. Up until today this has taken about 65 ms to update the data but now it has suddenly increased significantly. What happens is: I launch my program and for the first 30 or so iterations it performs as expected, then suddenly the loop time increases from 65 ms to 250 ms. The odd thing is, after timing each function I found out that the part of the code which is causing the slowdown is fairly basic and has not been modified in over a month. The data which goes into it is unchanged and identical every iteration but the execution time which is initially less than 1 ms suddenly increases to 170 ms while the rest of the code is still performing as expected (time-wise). Basically, I am calling the same function over and over, for the first 30 calls it performs as it should, after that it slows down for no apparent reason. It might also be worth noting that it is a sudden change in execution time, not a gradual increase. What could be causing this? The code is leaking some memory (~50 kb/s) but not nearly enough to warrant a sudden 4x slowdown. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!

    I need to write a batch program to end all MS office communicator tasks with window titles (usually ending with pattern "- Conversation" . I tried taskkill /FI "WINDOWTITLE eq *Conversation" /IM communicator.exe but the wildcard pattern starting with a '*' does not seem to work. Gives the folowing error ERROR: The search filter cannot be recognized. any suggestions for a workaround would be greatly appreciated!

  • Windows periodically disconnects, reconnects to the network

    My setup: I have a PC with a Gigabyte GA-MA78S2H motherboard (Realtek Gigabit wired Ethernet on-board). I have the latest drivers (at least the latest driver for the NIC. I'm connecting via an Edimax BR-6216Mg (again, wired connection). For some reason I experience short periodic disconnects and reconnects. Specifically, Skype disconnects, tries to connect, succeeds after a short while; incoming SFTP sessions get dropped; using a browser, I sometime get stuck in the DNS lookup or connection to the website and a page won't load. A couple of seconds later, a reload works. All this happens with Windows XP SP3. With Windows 7, it also happens. Things I've done/tried: [2012-03-26] I replaced the cable; I thought that made a difference, but the disconnects were back a while later, so that wasn't it. Updated the NIC driver. Tried reducing the MTU (used a utility called Dr. TCP); there was no effect. I updated my board BIOS revision (which caused all the HW to be "reinstalled" or re-identified - successfully). I installed another NIC, and tried switching to it - same effect with the on-board NIC. A while back I tried another router (although it was an Edimax model) - same problem. Connected the computer directly, with no router. Same problem. ping -t to the router (192.168.0.254) gives pongs, nothing is lost, and time is < 1 ms almost always (sometimes it says 1 or 2 ms). This is the case also during the disconnects.

    Hello, I have a problem with DNS servers. My master dns server runs on Microsoft DNS server and now I want to start slave DNS server on Linux Bind9. The problems is that master MS DNS server can't validate slave DNS server (bind9) and can't resolve FQDN. Maybe, I missed something... firewall, dns configuration and network looks like ok. And the second question is: How I can make full transfer of dns zones to slave dns server? from MS DNS to BIND9 Thanks in advance. Regards, Bryan

    We have a website on a secondary server that we want this website to be accessible from Internet, with www.mywebsite.com. In the domain name provider of www.mywebsite.com, we set our 2 dns names, dns1.company.ch, dns2.company.ch and our static ip address. System is set as following: MS Server 2008 R2 N°1: Main server, in AD With IP 192.168.1.100 With DNS zone dns1.company.ch With DNS secondary zone from server N°2: dns2.company.ch With DNS secondary zone from server N°2: mywebsite.com (zone transfer is on) MS Server 2008 R2 N°2: Secondary server, not in AD With IP 192.168.1.101 With DNS zone dns2.company.ch With DNS zone mywebsite.com with host: 192.168.1.101 With the website under ISS with bindings www.mywebsite.com:80, mywebsite.com:80 All traffics for ports 80 (http) and 53 (dns) from Internet goes to server N°1. How can we redirect all traffics for www.mywebsite.com from Internet to our secondary server so the corresponding website can be displayed in Internet ?   • Find the product key I entered for MS Office on Mac

    I have several legal license keys for Office:mac 2008. I want to do a quick audit of the two machines I've installed office on and verify which license keys are being used where. But I don't see the license key anywhere on the about dialog (or elsewhere). I've seen other postings on the 'net directing me to look at various .plist files, but those only give me the "Product ID" which is different from the license key (which MS calls the "Product Key" on the little sticker). Is there a way outside of calling MS to correlate the Product Key (which is required for installation and is the real license key) to the Product ID I see in the app itself?

    Hello Guys; I've a problem with Firefox or MS Office maybe both of them. Our firm has an Intranet and publishes some documents via Intra. MS Office 2007 is used to create document templates and stored as "file://depo/ISO9001//Form/_Form.xlt, _Form.dot" in the server. Unfortunately Firefox can't open these templates or downloads over Intra. Is there any solution to this issue? I don't want to use Firefox after IE after Firefox.     Are there any resources offering advice on how to setup a microsoft based web-hosting service? I currently offer LAMP hosting with cPanel, but there is some demand for IIS & SQL Server. As far as I can tell MS Windows Web Server 2008 R2 edition allows unlimited IIS connections. And a per-processor license for MS SQL Server Web Edition 2008 also permits unlimited connections. Where I am falling down is that I can't figure out how to get "unlimited" Active Directory users. I can't use 2008R2 Web Server edition for AD, so I will need the 2008R2 standard edition, I think. Does Microsoft have a provision for using AD in an ISP scenario? I am looking at using the cPanel Enkompas system to manage the Windows software, and Enkompas requires AD for user authentication. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    I've lost the source code for a very old application that connects to a MS SQL-server for some SQL queries. Since the login is hard-coded in the application I can't change the username/password on the server. One day the password will probably be known to the users and we surely need to change it. But how? One idea is to only allow the old application to do the queries on the SQL server and block out any other application like the query analyzer etc. Can I set process permission somehow? The SQL server (MS SQL 2005) and application (C++) are on the same machine It's too costly to rewrite the old program Thanks for help!

  • Recommended service account setup for MS SQL Server 2005/2008

    We have a number of MS SQL servers in our environment running either SQL Server 2005 standard/enterprise or SQL server 2008 enterprise. Currently the SQL services are running as local service or network service and the MS recommended best practice is to run as a domain account which is what we are trying to move towards. Is the best practice with regards to domain accounts to have a separate domain account per service per server? So if we have 4 SQL services we want to run per server and we have 50 servers, we would create 50 * 4 = 200 accounts in AD? This seems excessive to me and I was wondering if anyone has any real experience with this type of setup and it's management.

He started off with around 5 users, and hence we had not sold any extra licenses. Today there are 40 users, and there's performance degradation. An MS Consultant said that to improve performance you need to buy extra licenses. Is there a relationship. I am anyway planning to force the customer to buy extra licenses on legal grounds. But will there be any appreciable performance difference too? Advice welcome

    I generally build my openssl libs by doing this: perl Configure VC-WIN32 ms\do_masm nmake -f ms\ntdll.mak nmake -f ms\ntdll.mak test For debugging minidumps, I'd like to get a pdb file for the 2 dlls (while still building them in "release" mode). I've added /Zi to the CFLAGS part of ms\ntdll.mak, but I still get "Binary was not built with debug information" when I look at the in-memory modules in the visual studio debugger.     I need to execute a command 100-200 times, so far my research indicates that I would either have to copy paste 100 copies of this command, OR use a FOR loop, but the for loop expects a list of items, hence I would need 200 files to operate on, or a list of 200 items, hence defeating the point. I would really not have to write a C program and go through the length of documenting why I had to write another program to execute my program for test purposes. Modification of my program itself is also no an option. So, given a command how would I execute it times via a DOS batch script?

  • Google Calendar API DoS prevention

    Hi, It appears that the Google calendar API effectively locks you out if you create and delete a few (less than 10) calendars within a short space of time. This has made it basically impossible for me to test my app, because it creates/deletes a calendar for each user that is added/removed from the app. Currently, I'm "working around" this issue by creating a new Google account each time I get locked out of the Calendar API. Clearly, this solution is less than satisfactory. Is there any way I can avoid this over-zealous DoS prevention? Thanks, Don
