• How to redirect wordpress post links that are using post_id to new url struture of postname

  Hey guys, I have a slight problem... we made a change to our url structure the other day and have broken links all over. What I did was change links from: http://blog.mydomain.com/articles/123 To: http://blog.mydomain.com/articles/this-is-a-smaple Is there anyway to direct any links linking to the pages ID number to the postname???? The old url structure is still being published throughout our RSS feed on facebook. So I am trying to catch those people that are or maybe clicking on our links on our facebook posts and redirect them to that posts postname url? Does that make sense? Thanks and help would do

• Database design in blogging systems

  As a learning exercise I'm trying to put myself a blogging system. The goal is to code something that will let me create multiple blogs, like blogger.com or wordpress.com, but much simplified. I would like to ask you, what do you think is best database design for this type of script. Is it better to have one big table, containing posts from all blogs of all users (like friendfeed) or would it be better to create separate table for each blog's posts?   I am using rails 2.3.5 and this is what I did. Now I want to test using Javascript. At this time this is how scenario looks like Scenario: Delete post Given the following posts: |title|body|published| |title 1|body 1|false| |title 2|body 2|true| |title 3|body 3|false| |title 4|body 4|true| When I delete the 3rd post Then I should see the following posts: |Title|Body|Published| |title 1|body 1|false| |title 2|body 2|true| |title 4|body 4|true| I added @javascript at the top. Now when I run rake cucumber then I see a confirmation page. But nothing happens until I click. What do I need to do so that OK is clicked automatically and test proceeds ahead.

  Lets say I was to develop a small forum script, what types of topics pages would you find most helpful? I'd like to get an idea of what should be added. Viewing popular phpBB forums, they offer "Unanswered Posts", "Active Topics" and "Unread Topics". Obviously I'm already including a page to view your own topics and posts. My other question was, is it a big deal that I'm not tracking whether or not you've read a topic? I already provide the page showing all topics you've participated in... just not ones that you've "viewed". Would this be something forum users would only end up complaining about? I don't like the options available to track topics that are read/not read, that's the only reason I am not considering adding this feature at this stage. Many thanks everyone for any help.

  Is there any microsoft or even non-official documentation for SOS for Silverlight. Other than a few web posts I have seen zero documentation for it on MSDN. Even official documentation for the CLR version of SOS seems hard to find, this ancient article mentions a sos.htm file that is included in the windows SDK but it doesn't appear to be there any more. Any pointers to debugging Silveright with SOS? • Where do you get ArcGIS development questions answered?

  Where do you have the most success getting your ArcGIS development questions answered? ESRI forums? Stack Overflow? Google? Mailing lists? Blog posts? ESRI documentation? I can usually get answers to my ASP.NET/Oracle/JavaScript/C# questions in short order, but questions about ESRI products and APIs are a different matter. Posts founder in the forums, Google returns void, etc. I'm sure this is not uncommon for niche commercial products, but frustrating nevertheless. What works for you? Please share.

• Getting a specific number of JSON items with jQuery from tumblr feed

• Building dictionary of words from large text

  I have a text file containing posts in English/Italian. I would like to read the posts into a data matrix so that each row represents a post and each column a word. The cells in the matrix are the counts of how many times each word appears in the post. The dictionary should consist of all the words in the whole file or a non exhaustive English/Italian dictionary. I know this is a common essential preprocessing step for NLP. Does anyone know of a tool\project that can perform this task? Someone mentioned apache lucene, do you know if lucene index can be serialized to a data-structure similar to my needs?

• List Management Via MailChimp API

  I'm investigating using the MailChimp API to manage email notifications for a social networking site (similar to how Twitter sends email notifications to followers when a followee posts a new Tweet). My original plan was to have a "follower" list for each user in the app and then send an email to that list each time that user posts new content. However, it appears that the MailChimp API intentionally doesn't support creating campaign lists via the API (for CAN-SPAM reasons). I've read something about list segmentation in MailChimp, but I don't think that helps me with this situation. I'm curious if anyone else has run into a similar requirement to mine and how they dealt with it. Any insights would be most appreciated! Thanks.

What I want to do is have the most recent post on my home page and have users navigate to www.mysite.com/blog to see all posts. I would also like to have a sidebar on the homepage with links to 10 most recent posts. Where should I start? Should I use wordpress or an asp.net engine? Should I use rss feeds to get information to homepage?

I want to get it so that there is a different class attached to the li tag on every second output. • MySQL - Skip Duplicate WordPress Entries

  I'm writing a script to display the 10 most recently "active" WordPress blog posts (i.e. those with the most recent comments). Problem is, the list has a lot of duplicates. I'd like to weed out the duplicates. Is there an easy way to do this by changing the MySQL query (like IGNORE, WHERE) or some other means? • simple blog engine for website

  I know that there's a lot of free open source blog engine out there such as BlogEngine.NET. However that's an overkill for my purpose... I so far has created my own simple one by storing posts in a .xml file and so every time the main page loads it reads from all those xml files and displays it as posts. Now my problem is when a user clicks on a post title I want it to show on a new page(.aspx), so if the title is X then I want a new page called X.aspx when the user clicks on the title on the homepage. I hope this makes sense. My question is how do I create such thing?

  I'm curious how to specify options to a jQuery plugin in a way that some are required, some are optionally overridden, and some can't be touched. I started off with the usual: jQuery.fn.plugin = function (options){ var defaults = { username: "", posts:10, api: "http://myapi.com" } var settings = jQuery.extend({}, defaults, options); } Let's say I want username to be required, posts is optional (defaults to 10) and you (you being the user of the plugin) can't change api, even if they try. Ideally, they'd all still be in the same data structure instead of being split into separate objects. Ideas?

  In my app, i want to fetch all videos of logged in user i.e. videos that are uploaded by user, videos share by user, user tagged in etc. Currently im using "stream" query as: SELECT created_time, post_id, actor_id, type, updated_time, attachment FROM stream WHERE created_time>1075593600 AND type IN (56, 80, 128, 237, 272) AND source_id=me() limit 10000 As you can see i use "type IN" to fetch required videos but this query is not fetching all videos of mine . I have two videos in 2011 one of which is uploaded and other one is shared.But i m not getting these two. Also in developer.facebook it was written that "Each query of the stream table is limited to the previous 30 days or 50 posts, whichever is greater, however you can use time-specific fields such as created_time along with FQL operators (such as < or ) to retrieve a much greater range of posts." So i tried "created time0" i.e.(1970) and other like timestamp of 2001 but still i m not getting all. Please help..its urgent.Thanks

  Currently I have two pages: The first page contains an input form, and the 2nd page generates an excel document. The input form's button posts to this 2nd page. What I'd like to do is add a second button which also posts to the 2nd page; however, I'll need requests created from this new button to act differently, which brings me to my question: Is there a way I can tell, from the 2nd page, which button was pressed to submit the request? The main reason I'm asking is I'd like to re-use the 2nd page's logic in parsing the information from the first page if possible; I'd rather not have to copy it to a new page and have the new button post to that. • Sorting By Multiple Conditions in Ruby

  I have a collection of Post objects and I want to be able to sort them based on these conditions: First, by category (news, events, labs, portfolio, etc.) Then by date, if date, or by position, if a specific index was set for it Some posts will have dates (news and events), others will have explicit positions (labs, and portfolio). I want to be able to call posts.sort!, so I've overridden <=>, but am looking for the most effective way of sorting by these conditions. Below is a pseudo method: def <=>(other) # first, everything is sorted into # smaller chunks by category self.category <=> other.category # then, per category, by date or position if self.date and other.date self.date <=> other.date else self.position <=> other.position end end It seems like I'd have to actually sort two separate times, rather than cramming everything into that one method. Something like sort_by_category, then sort!. What is the most ruby way to do this?

• Software to find dependencys in a database that not have them as restrictions

  I have a database in SQL server 2005 that originaly comes fom an old mainframe. All relations was set in the surrounding software and there are non i the database. I need to find the relations, not by field name but by actual contence in the registers. (as suggestions, I realize I'l have to check them up) It would be nice with some extras, like finding motherless posts etc. but not a primary demand. There are some 200 registers with max 2 000 000 posts in any register. Does any one know of a software that can help me with this? The software I can find presuposes that relations are set in the database :(

• How to limit a google calendar xml / rss feed by date range (not working!!)

  For the life of me I cannot get my google calendar xml feed to only display events within a certain date range. I know that start-min and start-max are supposed to limit the output (according to these posts: (links to posts deleted because I am a newbie and can only post one hyperlink argh) BUT I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK. It keeps showing lot of things outside the range. I created a sample calendar and made it public. It is some events the first week of april. Can anyone show me how to construct a request that only returns those three events from the first week in april? I'll GLADLY and GRATEFULLY paypal $10 to anyone who helps me break through on this. • DISQUS - filtering the recent-comments list when using disqus on two seperate resources on the same

  I'm using Disqus comments on my site. Users can comment on blog posts or on podcasts. So I have a page that lists all the blog-posts and one listing all of my podcasts. I'm using the combo-widget to display the most recent comments on each of these two pages. But I only want recent blog-post comments to show up in the list on the blog index page and likewise for podcasts. At the moment, the combo-widget lists all the comments, regardless of whether or not they were left on a blog post or a podcast... Is Disqus even built to be used in this way? [Site built with rails and I'm using norman's disqus plugin, although I doubt it matters...]

  Hello, I am trying to understand, how can Voldermort be used? Say, I have this scenario: Since, Voldemort is a key-value pair. I need to fetch a value (say some text) on the basis of 3 parameters. So, what will be the key in this case? I cannot use 3 keys for 1 value right, but that value should be search able on the basis of those 3 parameters. Am I making sense? • Fixed header and footers gotchas and suggestion

  I am planning to revamp my blog layout and this time I plan to have position: fixed headers and footers, both will be ~40px tall. The header will contain the logo and search buttons, the footer is going to contain lots of items such as subscribe buttons, related posts, jump to top/comments/bottom buttons and so on (list is not finalized). Before I jump into this I am wondering if someone can tell me if its a good idea or not. And I'd also appreciate if you can point out best-practices and gotchas. The footer will contain facebook chat style popup for related posts and some other features so I am also wondering if its going to work with this layout. There will be ads too so this leaves me worrying if its possible to have a the header laying on top of ads (specially flash ads). Links to sample layouts will be appreciated.
