• Moving WSS sites to a new SharePoint 2010 Foundation server

  This existing question helps but it doesn't answer all my questions. I have WSS 3 running on Server1 (Server 2003) and its database is DBServer1 (SQL 2008). I have installed SharePoint 2010 Foundation on Server2 (Server 2008) with databases on DBServer2 (SQL 2008 R2). SP 2010 Foundation is up and running ok and it already has one newly created Web Application. Now my goal is to copy all sites from Server1/DBServer1 to Server2/DBServer2 (and eventually retire Server1/DBServer1). Could you please help me with a step-by-step list on how to accomplish this? • 'cp' skips some of Eclipse's dot directories

  I am trying to backup my Eclipse .metadata directory. The command I run is: cp -Rf ~/some/where/.metadata/* ~/some/backup/.metadata/. The first time I tried this, the copy skipped the lock file and the .plugins and .mylyn directories. After doing some research, I found some threads mentioning permission changes. I applied the changes and found some success. Now, running the script will not create or traverse into the .plugins or .mylyn directories. Additional research has come up with zero results.   I tried installing Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1, 64-bit on a netbook (Lenovo IdeaPad S110), which has the Intel Atom N2800 (1.86 GHz) as its processor, but I get the following error message when the Windows 7 installation DVD is loading: It says "Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode". The Intel Atom N2800 is a 64-bit CPU according to its webpage. I am wondering why the Windows 7 installer shows this error message, despite this. Is there something I must configure first before installing Windows 7, 64-bit? Or is the netbook not compatible with a 64-bit OS? I am trying to format the netbook and install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, instead. Other details: The netbook has 2 GB RAM. The netbook initially had Windows 7 Starter (32-bit) installed.

• Software that supports ATA Secure Erase Command

  We have a lot of drives that need to be sanitized. NIST SP 800-88 recommends software that uses the ATA Secure Erase command. That's apparently the only way to be sure that the drive is properly wiped, due to bad-block remapping and such. I know that this functionality is available in hdparm. The problem with that approach is that it is inconsistent on multiple platforms, occasionally times out, doesn't have error-checking logic, and doesn't check the resulting drive to make sure that it has, in fact, been erased. So a proper program might use hdparm, but hdparm by itself isn't an answer. I'm looking for open source software that implements ATA Secure Erase. Ideally it will be a bootable disk image like DBAN, but it will use the ATA command.

• How to list all 2nd level subfolders and delete un-required ones?

  I provide support to a lot of clients. I have created a folder for each client, and under each client folder, I create a folder for the date on which the issue was reported. Now due to growing data, I want to delete all issues for all clients which are before a cut off date. The problem is while creating the date folder, I have not always followed a specific convention, some are creating using dd-MM-yyyy, some are using dd.MM.yyyy, etc. Is there a quick way I can list all such date subfolders, and then choose which ones I do not want, and delete them?   Hi, I have a Netware Novell server with an eDirectory and different objects configured. I implemented an OEServer2 SP1 to emulate a DSfW to manage the eDirectory with AD. I join the domain with the Administrator login and I am logged as the Administrator domain. So far, there are no problems. When I open the MMC window on Windows Server 08 and snap in the "Active Directory Users and Computers" I can see all the OUs and objects presented in the Netware N. server. But, when I select some OUs I can have an error, and when I select other I don’t have this error. Error: “Data from XXXXX is not available from Domain Controller OES2.yyyy.local because: The server is unwilling to process the request. Try again later, or choose another DC by selecting Connect to Domain Controller on the Domain context menu.” With XXXX= OU’s name and yyyy.local= domain name and OES2 server name If somebody can upload this SP or post a link to download it... • SharePoint 2010 MySites - Simple explanation needed!

  I've been playing around with the 2010 beta for a couple of weeks, experimenting with topology options etc. I think I've got myself totally confused as to how it works hence if there's any SP experts out there that can explain things in simple terms for me I'd appreciate it! I want to setup a farm with 3 servers providing the content & MySites. I presume that the way to do this is to load balance or DNS round robin traffic between the 3 servers. The bit where I'm confused is that My Site Settings page asks for a specific My Site Host hence all my site traffic will be pushed to a single server even though we have 3 in the farm. If this hosts fails I presume MySites will be unavailable. Is this right? How do I configure it so that access to MySites is load balanced across the 3 servers in the farm?

• How to fix Windows XP from muting sounds on every startup?

  This started to happen few days ago: Every time I start up my computer, the global sound volume ("Playback") is set to muted (from the checkbox), in the sound control panel. So I have to open the control panel every time i start up my computer, and click that checkbox. I have got this bug before, long time ago. I have no idea why is this happening. Any ideas how to fix this or what is causing it? I have SP 3 and most updates installed a half year ago or less.

• Can Windows XP remember file icon position?

  Windows allows you to arrange icons however you like in a window. However after some time when I go back to the window, it has forgotten the icon positions and has completely rearranged the icons. Is there a way to preserve the icon positions? In the previous version of Windows I used, this would happen on rare occasions (about 6 months) and it might only move a couple of icons. Now it is happening practically every day and it is every single icon. Attempts to rearrange them manually are futile and it is increasingly maddening. Searching Google, I have found a number of programs that allow you to save and restore icon position on the desktop. But, this is just a regular folder window so I am not sure if any of those would even work. Some details: Windows XP SP 3 running in Parallels 5 virtual machine Auto Arrange and Align to Grid are NOT turned on Fresh OS install and only setting icon positions in one window

• Microsoft Outlook 2007 - General Failure. The URL was: "<http:/something.com>". The parameter is incorrect

  For the last two days, Outlook has decided it doesn't like URL's. Any email message that comes in containing an URL will show the following in an error dialogue message box when I click on the link: General Failure. The URL was: "http:/something.com/somewhere/". The parameter is incorrect If I copy the link into a browser, it works correctly. OS is Windows XP SP 3, Microsoft Office 2007 (Outlook), Internet Explorer 8 (also Chrome). I have, of course, Googled this and the two most popular solutions are: Solution 1: Add/Remove programs Set Program Access and Defaults Custom tab Make sure a default browser is selected Solution 2: Add/Remove Programs Select the MS Office 2007 item Click Change Click Repair I have tried both of these and I still get the problem. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it with a solution other than those listed above?

• nmap reports host up when it isn't

  On an Ubuntu VM I ran: sudo nmap -sP 192.168.0.* This returned: Starting Nmap 5.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2010-12-28 22:46 PST Host 192.168.0.0 is up (0.00064s latency). Host 192.168.0.1 is up (0.00078s latency). Host 192.168.0.2 is up (0.00011s latency). . . . Host 192.168.0.254 is up (0.00068s latency). Host 192.168.0.255 is up (0.00066s latency). The problem is I only have 4 live machines on 192.168.0.* so why did nmap report every ip in the subnet has a live host? The ip address of the Ubuntu machine is 192.168.28.131 From this VM I can ping the live systems on my internal subnet 192.168.0.* and get the expected response. And if I ping a machine that doesn't exist I can get no response as expected.

• Updating to Exchange 2013 - any way to do it now?

  Exchange 2013 is out, available for some epople already. Got if from the VLC Center, now trying to get an upgrade path that works for some customers. Problem: There is no upgrade. It is "install on new Server, move mailboxes. This means coexistence with Exchagne 2010 for the time to move the Mailbox. Sadly the only compatible Exchange is Exchange 2010 Sp3 - which is not going to be bout for quite some time. Any way to still do an update? Backup, restore to new Server? Any beta of the SP that is good enough to ONLY move the mailboxes? I do not care about the rest - this really is "install Exchange 2013, move mailboxes, UNINSTALL 2010". I am quite - ah - unhappy that at the end the only one who will be able to intall 2013 are new companies right now.

• Bad HD video deinterlacing processing

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit with Unity. My system configuration is: CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz) RAM: 8192 Mb DDR2 Kingston Video: Palit GeForce GTX 260 216 SP, and my screen resolution is 1680x1050. I also have Window 7 Ulitimate installed, and I can see the same files in Media Player Classic without any horizontal lines. I've installed vdpau driver, NVIDIA drivers 304.51, and MPlayer 2 (within SMPlayer). I've disabled "Sync to VBlank" option in CCSM (because in other way, by default, MPlayer process use about 50-60 percents of my processor load), tried to swich between different deinterlace options in SMPlayer, used "-vc ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau" (without quotes) parameters for MPlayer, switched to "Ubuntu 2D", but, finally, have no results. Any suggestions? How must I to set up MPlayer?

• Vim: I don't want to insert!!!

  I could not find anything online addressing this problem, which is surprising. The problem is that I find it very easy to accidentally insert stuff in Vim. I know I can undo by with 'u', but it still is quite annoying and frequent. Often, I enter a command like 'sp file.txt' without realizing that I haven't entered the ':' character yet (so I'm not yet on the command line). Unfortunately, there are several characters that take you to insert mode, including 's', 'a', 'i', 'o'. I'd rather have insert mode mapped to just one keybinding which is very deliberate, like shift-space. Can anyone point me to something that might have what I'm looking for? Thanks.

• Not able to safely remove external disk after having mounted and unmounted a VHD on it

  I am using Windows 7 SP 1. I have an external hard disk (Seagate 500GB) which I am able to use without problems most of the time. I am able to plug it in, use it and then safely unmount it via the "Eject USB Mass Storage Device" option in the taskbar tray. However, if I attach a VHD file located on this disk using "Disk Management", then detach the VHD and finally try to safely disconnect the disk via the system tray, I get an error which says: "Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device: Windows can't stop your 'Generic volume' device because a program is still using it. Close any programs that might be using the device, and then try again later." How do I avoid this problem? Which process could still be accessing the device (even after I have closed the "Disk Management" application) ?

• IE 9 home page is hijacked by avg

  I definitely know how to change the home page in Internet Explorer (Tools -> Options -> General). The problem is, no matter what I put there, it never changes. Stop/restart Internet Explorer and the old home page is back. I did some research to see if there is a registry key that I could tweak to get the home page to set properly. I changed the start page registry key and refreshed the view and the start page key (without even restarting regedit) was reset back to its original value. Now I'm a little concerned. • How can I connect to some old Sun servers?

  We have some old Sun servers (V125, V210, V240, T2000 amongst others) sitting unused and I've been asked to find out if there is anything useful on them before they get wiped and disposed of. However, I've been unable to connect to any of the servers. I tried connecting the servers to a router using the Net Management, Serial Management and standard Ethernet ports. When doing this, I ran 'nmap -sP' from my Linux desktop before and after connecting a server so I could compare the two outputs and hopefully work out what IP address had been assigned to the server, but it didn't appear to have received one. Unfortunately only one of the servers has a VGA output. I was able to access this machine as we still have the login details stored in KeePass, but I've no idea at the moment on how I should go about connecting to any of the others. Any suggestions?

• Sharepoint 2010 reacts very badly to having it's IP address changed. How do I fix it?

  I have Sharepoint 2010 set up on a virtual host for prototyping various projects. If I restart the host, the IP changes. Afterwards, SP complains that it can't find it's configuration database. I can't find where it might be storing an IP. To clarify, the URL remains the same - I have a dynamic dns solution in place to handle that. I can't see anything in the web.config files or the database connection strings that would indicate a hardcoded IP. How can I fix this up in less time than re-installing every time I need to do a project?

• Windows Explorer not responding

  I am running W7 64bit on an AMD Quad 1.8Ghz processor. I have a 500GB system drive and added a 1TB drive. Windows Explorer does it's "not responding" thing regularly. I read the other posts and ran SCANNOW and it came back clean. I also ran AUTORUNS and disabled everything that was not windows related. No luck. I booted in safe mode and it appears that explorer works, but I don't know why. I did read a post awhile back that it could be a Service program that makes explorer not respond. I forgot to bookmark the site and don't remember how to turn off the SP's without crashing the entire system. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. I have also run CHKDSK on all drives, and there were no errors found. EDIT: It has been in for about 2 years and the problem started about 4 or 5 months ago.

• Lotus Notes won't open a hyperlink/uri in a browser!

  I'm still new to Lotus, but I have LN 8.0.2, and have it set up to open hyperlinks "using the browser i have set as the default for this operating system" which in my case is Firefox 3.6.13. If I try to select "use the browser embedded in this client" then it just forgets it after I click save (ie if i go back into preferences it's reset to the default for this operating system option) Windows XP SP 3. Whenever I click on a link in an email...memo... then it does nothing and flashes an underscore underneath it. It's so basic and so annoying there must be something I'm missing. Any help please!

• How to configure Linux to act as a Bluetooth RFCOMM SPP server?

  I'm writing a phone app for Android that connects to a bluetooth RFCOMM device in my car. My phone app talks AT commands with it. For development work, I often need to communicate with the device to try different commands and things. My neighbors are starting to think I'm weird because I sit in my car for hours on end with my laptop screen shining on my face, typing away like a script kiddie. I'd much rather configure one of my many Linux servers to act as a bluetooth RFCOMM device and allow me to connect to it (indoors, while I sit on my couch). I imagine I have to start with something like sdptool add SP But then what? I'm perfectly happy writing a perl app to handle the I/O, but I just don't know how to make the bluez stack accept connections and subsequently pipe that stream to a perl app.
