  • Zend Sessions problem with IE8

    I'm running a Zend Framework powered website and it seems to have serious problems with sessions. I have a 5 step process where I save the form data in the session between the steps and then save it into the database on the last step. When we built the site sometimes the session just went away and forced us to restart. Now it seems to work again but recently we discovered an issue with Internet Explorer 8. It fails between step 2 - 3 and forgets the session. It works fine in IE6, IE7, FF, Chrome, Safari and even in my mobile web browser (SE P1). We're storing our sessions in the database and if I deactivate the session db handler it works. What's the difference between using the database and not using it for sessions? Do I loose something if I switch back?   • Can I use array_push on a SESSION array in php?

    I have an array that I want on multiple pages, so I made it a SESSION array. I want to add a series of names and then on another page, I want to be able to use a foreach loop to echo out all the names in that array. This is the session: $_SESSION['names'] I want to add a series of names to that array using array_push like this: array_push($_SESSION['names'],$name); I am getting this error: array_push() [function.array-push]: First argument should be an array Can I use array_push to put multiple values into that array? Or perhaps there is a better, more efficient way of doing what I am trying to achieve?

  • Is it possible to share session state between asp.net aspx page making a call to an asp.net webservi

    My Situation: I have 1 asp.net application with both aspx pages AND webservices I make calls (using ajax) to the webservice from an aspx page - all within the same asp.net application! Here is my problem/question Is there any way to share the session state? I.e. - the aspx page has a sessionID and the state is being maintained. When the call to the webservice is made, is there a way to automatically send the seesionID to the webservice and then be able to access the same session state from the webservice? -- That would greatly simplify my work! :) Many thanks for your ideas!!

  • How do I keep track of the session for each servlet request, until I use it? Singletons wont work?

    For each servlet request I get, I pass, perhaps, 10 methods before I am at where I need to check something in the session and I need the HttpSession. The only way I can get the HttpSession is from the HttpServletRequest, correct? How do I keep track of the session for each servlet request? Unfortuantly I cannot simple make a singleton (ex, SessionInformation.instance().getAttribute("name")) because that session would then be used over all requests. Is there a way to store the session globally for each request without having to pass it (or it's information) down all the methods just in case I need it?

  • Uniquely identify two instances of one browser that share Session state?

    I want to make sure that a user isn't editing the same form data in two different browser tabs or windows (of the same web browser instance). It's to stop the user from stupidly overwriting their own data as they continue through a very long form process. On the server ongoing data input through the screens is collected into the Session. Assume for any browser, all tabs and windows run in the same instance of it (i.e. not each in a separate process). Obviously the browser tabs and windows share the same cookies in this scenario so cookie modification seems out of the question for viable solutions. This is also the reason they shared the same session. Considering that the form is already created and this is one of the final touches, how can I use ASP.NET, hopefully easily, to oversee this "feature"?

  • Sessions not persisting between requests

    My session objects are only stored within the request scope on google app engine and I can't figure out how to persist objects between requests. The docs are next to useless on this matter and I can't find anyone who's experienced a similar problem. Please help. When I store session objects in the servlet and forward the request to a JSP using: getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/example.jsp").forward(request,response); Everything works like it should. But when I store objects to the session and redirect the request using: response.sendRedirect("/example/url"); The session objects are lost to the ether. In fact when I dump session key/value pairs on new requests there is absolutely nothing, session objects only appear within the request scope of servlets which create session objects. It appears to me that the objects are not being written to Memcache or Datastore. In terms of configuring sessions for my application I have set <sessions-enabled>true</sessions-enabled> In appengine-web.xml. Is there anything else I am missing? The single paragraph of documentation on sessions also notes that only objects which implement Serializable can be stored in the session between requests. I have included an example of the code which is not working below. The obvious solution is to not use redirects, and this might be ok for the example given below but some application data does need to be stored in the session between requests so I need to find a solution to this problem.   • Reason to use more cookies than just a session hash for authentication?

    I usually hang out in a community using vBulletin as its bulletin board. I was looking at what this software saves as cookie in my browser. As you can see it saves 6 cookies. Amongst them, what I consider to be important for authentification are: ngivbsessionhash: hash of the current session ngivbpassword: hash of the password ngivbuserid: user's id Those are my assumptions of course. I don't know for sure if ngilastactivity and ngilastvisit are used for the same reason. My question is: why use all these cookie for authentication? My guess would be that maybe generating a session hash would be to easy so using the hashedpassword and userid adds security but what about cookie spoofing? I'm basically leaving on the client all fundamental informations. What do you think?

    I'm switching from using gnu-screen to tmux, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around changes. One thing I'd like to be able to do is start tmux and have it automatically connect to a session if one exists, and otherwise create a new session. tmux attach attaches to an automatically existing session - but errors out if no session exists tmux new creates a new session - but it does so every time, so I can't leave it in my .tmux.conf tmux has-session tests whether a session exists - but I don't know how to stitch it together with the other commands Can anyone give me some configure file advice?

  • How can I access one desktop session from another on the same machine?

    I want to run a desktop session as user A, and from that session access a different desktop session as user B. This way I can test, screencast or share my screen from session B, while having access to apps/resources in session A that I do not want running/visible in session B. What application can I do this with? I assume some kind of a remote desktop client/server is what I'm looking for. So far I have tried: VNC. Logged in as user A and user B. In session B run Desktop Sharing. Switched to session A. Tried to access share with Remmina. Failed. (Can get image to appear but it's frozen.) x2go. Installed server and client from stable PPA (needed a workaround for installation to succeed). Created a connection which starts then fails instantly. Discovered mailing list post suggesting that accessing localhost is not supported. On the non-remote front: VirtualBox. Created a minimal virtual machine for session B. Too resource heavy. Am I attempting the impossible? Should I be looking for something other than a remote desktop tool?

  • How long do you keep session cookies around for?

    Hi, I'm implementing a web app, which uses sessions. I'm using GWT and app engine as my client/server, but I don't think they're doing anything really different than I would do with PHP and apache etc. When a user logs into my web app, I am using HttpSession to start a session for them. I get the session id like this: // From my login servlet: getThreadLocalRequest().getSession(false).getId(); I return the sessionId back to the client, and they store it in a cookie. The tutorial I'm using sets this cookie to 'expire' in two weeks: Cookie.write("sid", theSessionId, 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 14); // two weeks Here's where I'm confused: if the cookie expires in two weeks, then my user will go along using the webapp happily, only to one day browse to my site and be shown a login screen. What are my options? Can I just set no expiration time for this cookie? That way the user would have to explicitly log out, otherwise they could just use the app forever without having to log back in? Or is there a better way to do this? I can't remember sites like Twitter having ever asked me to log back in again. I seem to be permanently logged in. Do they just set no expiration? The webapp isn't protecting any sort of highly sensitive data, so I don't mind leaving a cookie that doesn't expire, but it seems like there must be a better way?   • Session Report: What’s New in JSF: A Complete Tour of JSF 2.2

    On Wednesday, Ed Burns, Consulting Staff Member at Oracle, presented a session, CON3870 -- “What’s New in JSF: A Complete Tour of JSF 2.2,” in which he provided an update on recent developments in JavaServer Faces 2.2. He began by emphasizing that, “JavaServer Faces 2.2 continues the evolution of the Java EE standard user interface technology. Like previous releases, this iteration is very community-driven and transparent.” He pointed out that since JSF was introduced at the 2001 JavaOne Keynote, it has had a long and successful run and has found a home in applications where the UI logic resides entirely on the server where the model and UI logic is. In such cases, the browser performs fairly simple functions. However, developers can take advantage of the power of browsers, something that Project Avatar is focused on by letting developers author their applications so the UI logic is running on the client and communicating to the back end via RESTful web services. “Most importantly,” remarked Burns, “JSF 2.2 offers a really good migration path because even in the scope of one application you could have an app written with JSF that has its UI logic on the server and, on a gradual basis, you could migrate parts of the app over to use client-side technologies. This can be done at any level of granularity – per page or per collection of pages. It all depends on what you want to do.” His presentation, which focused on the basic new features of JSF 2.2, began by restating the scope of JSF and encouraged attendees to check out Roger Kitain’s session: CON5133 “Techniques for Responsive Real-Time Web UIs.” Burns explained that JSF has endured because, “We still need web apps that are maintainable, localizable, quick to build, accessible, secure, look great and are fun to use.” It is used on every continent – the curious can go here to check out where its unofficial usage is tracked. He emphasized the significance of the UI logic being substantially on the server. This: Separates Component Semantics from Rendering, Allows components to “own” their little patch of the UI -- encode/decode, And offers a well-defined lifecycle: Inversion of Control. Burns reminded attendees that JSR-344, the spec for JSF 2.2, is now on Java Community Process 2.8, a revised version of the JCP that allows for more openness and transparency. The Early Draft Review of JSR 344 was published on December 8, 2011. Interested developers are encouraged to offer their input. Six Big Ticket Features of JSF 2.2 Burns summarized the six big ticket features of JSF 2.2:* HTML5 Friendly Markup Support Pass through attributes and elements * Faces Flows* Cross Site Request Forgery Protection* Loading Facelets via ResourceHandler* File Upload Component* Multi-Templating He explained that he called it “HTML 5 friendly” because there is really nothing HTML 5 specific about it -- it could be 4. But it enables developers to use new elements that are present in HTML5 without having a JSF component library that is written to take advantage of those specifically. It gives the page author the ability to use plain HTML5 to write their page, but to still take advantage of the server-side available in JSF. He presented a demo showing JSF 2.2’s ability to leverage the expressiveness of HTML5. Burns then explained the significance of face flows, which offer function points and quantify how much work has taken place, something of great value to JSF users. He went on to talk about JSF 2.2.’s cross-site request forgery protection (CSRF) and offered details about how it protects applications against attack. Then he talked about JSF 2.2’s File Upload Component and explained that the final specification will have Ajax and non-Ajax support. The current milestone has non-Ajax support implemented. He then went on to explain its capacity to add facelets through ResourceHandler. Previously, JSF 2.0 added Facelets and ResourceHandler as disparate units; now in JSF 2.2 the two concepts are unified. Finally, he explained the concept of multi-templating in JSF 2.2 and went on to discuss more medium-level features of the release.   • unable to launch startxfce4 x session --- "startxfce4" not found

    recently i have tried to upgraded ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 and it got crashed. somehow i upgraded it to 14.04 and now i can able to see login screen. my problem is when i tried to login i am getting error say unable to launch startxfce4 x session --- "startxfce4" not found. i can able to login through command line but not in GUI. i have tried sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop but didn't help. can anyone help me to solve this please.   • Retrieve a command from another, remote bash session

    So I was on our laptop, SSH'd into my desktop, dropping some mad bashfu skill. There was one command I ran which was particularly skilful. I'm now about minute walk from the laptop and I really want that command here on my desktop, so that I can run it again. I realise I've already spent more time that it would have taken to rewrite it, but this has raised a common issue I have with bash history. I know I can force it to update each command, but I haven't... so: Is there any way to get a history from a different, live bash session?

  • 12.04 64 bit: Keybord not responding for about 20 seconds at startup/beginning of session

    I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. When I get at the login screen and try to type the password for my user, I cannot type anything for about 20 seconds. After that, the keyboard starts responding and everything works fine. Mouse is responding normally as well as all buttons of the login interface (time/calendar, session selection (Unity/Unity 2D), etc.). What could be the reason for this behavior? How can I solve this temporary freeze of the keyboard so that I can type my password immediately without having to wait each time? Thanks for your time. EDIT: I tried auto login, but the problem is still there: the Desktop loads but even there, if I try to type something in the dash or anywhere else, I must wait about 20 seconds before I can actually start typing. Can the issue be related to some keyboard modules that get loaded little bit "too late"?

  • What is "Unlock keyring" and how do I get rid of it?

    (In my case this message never appeared before installing Ubuntu One - see this question). Can I use Ubuntu One and avoid being prompted each time like this? I use Lubuntu 12.04. Edit: After exchanging comments I add the supplementary info: I am asked for password and to select session if I log out and in (auto-login is NOT set). Ubuntu One is installed but set NOT to start with session. Keyring appears nonetheless. Before installing Ubuntu One this didn't happen. Also, following the advice of con-f-use, I have entered ps -A | grep -i ubunt[u] in terminal, and got 2346 ? 00:00:01 ubuntuone-syncd, which means that ubuntuone is running when it was not supposed to.

  • How to make JWM work in Ubuntu 12.04?

    I have installed the JWM on Ubuntu 12.04 via the Software Centre, but it doesn't work. When I choose the JWM session from LightDM, it only shows a black screen. It worked when I had another computer with Ubuntu 11.10, where I had the same problem after the JWM installation. But once, by chance, I chose to start JWM from a Fluxbox session. And after that, i was able to start JWM also from LightDM. But this solution does not work for me on Ubuntu 12.04. JWM never starts.
