    Other than large entities sponsoring a project, such as the Apache foundation, what are other ways that full-time open source developers (specifically those on products offered free of charge) receive funding for their projects? Obviously there will be donations that will trickle in but from what other channels do developers receive more steady income?

    I'm looking for a good open source multi-touch API to use in a project we might get. So far I've found PyMT, but haven't really seen any comments on the maturity of that product, so any input in that regard would be much appreciated. I'd also like some other suggestions on API's that might be of interest, since googling have only given so much, and as with PyMT, it is quite difficult finding opinions on the frameworks out there.   • Auto convert java source to use generic rather than raw types

    Is there a way/tool to auto convert Java source code from using raw types to using generic types? I have some legacy code with 677 references to raw types: ArrayList 47 Vector 420 Hashtable 61 Enumeration 64 Class 7 Iterator 78 TOTAL 677 Now I could manually look through the code to infer the generic types and replace, but that is going to take a long time.

  • What's open-source commenting system are available?

    My site has several listing pages and on each page, I'd like to enable a commenting mechanism, but I want it to be as open source as humanly possible. This means full use of OpenID's, Facebook connect, etc. Does such a system exist that'll allow users to post their comments on my listing pages? By the way, my site utilizes a LAMP architecture.

  • Good way to make changes to production database / source code

    Hi I'm interested to find out what would be the good way to make changes to production database and source code in web application (ASP.NET, SQL Server 2008). A little bit more details, we develop on local machines, and then we need to transfer the code and database changes to production (pretty much standard story). At the moment we do it in the evening, change the database directly from management studio on production server, and then just overwrite the existing asp.net code (copy/past). Thanks
