    - by user289168
    I have recently changed my operating system from windows 8 to ubuntu 14.04, when trying to connect to the network via wifi the system just keeps asking for my password over and over without connecting. The connectivity through an Ethernet cable is perfectly fine however and my wifi worked fine through windows 8, I have very little ubuntu knowledge so i apologise if the right information is not shown in this question. Just wondering if there was any known problems or if anyone has seen this before? Thanks in advance for any help, Tom

  • WCF tcp.net client/server connection failing "Stream Security is required"

    - by Tom W.
    I am trying to test a simple WCF tcp.net client/server app. The WCF service is being hosted on Windows 7 IIS. I have enabled TCP.net in IIS. I granted liberal security privileges to service app by configuring an app pool with admin rights and set the IIS service application to run in the context. I enabled tracing on the service app to troubleshoot. Whenever I run a simple method call against the service from the WCF client app, I get the following exception: "Stream Security is required at http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing/anonymous, but no security context was negotiated. This is likely caused by the remote endpoint missing a StreamSecurityBindingElement from its binding." Here is my client configuration: <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="InsecureTcp"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> Here is my service configuration: <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="InsecureTcp" > <security mode="None" /> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> <services> <service name="OrderService" behaviorConfiguration="debugServiceBehavior"> <endpoint address="" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="InsecureTcp" contract="ProtoBufWcfService.IOrder" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="debugServiceBehavior"> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors>

  • Abcpdf throwing System.ExecutionEngineException

    - by Tom Tresansky
    I have the binary for several pdf files stored in a collection of Byte arrays. My goal is to concatenate them into a single .pdf file using abcpdf, then stream that newly created file to the Response object on a page of an ASP.Net website. Had been doing it like this: BEGIN LOOP ... 'Create a new Doc Dim doc As Doc = New Doc 'Read the binary of the current PDF doc.Read(bytes) 'Append to the master merged PDF doc _mergedPDFDoc.Append(Doc) END LOOP Which was working fine 95% of the time. Every now and then however, creating a new Doc object would throw a System.ExecutionEngineException and crash the CLR. It didn't seem to be related to a large number of pdfs (sometimes would happen w/ only 2), or with large sized pdfs. It seemed almost completely random. This is a known bug in abcpdf described (not very well) here Item 6.24. I came across a helpful SO post which suggested using a Using block for the abcpdf Doc object. So now I'm doing this: Using doc As New Doc 'Read the binary of the current PDF doc.Read(bytes) 'Append to the master merged PDF doc _mergedPDFDoc.Append(doc) End Using And I haven't seen the problem occur again yet, and have been pounding on a test version as best as I can to get it to. Has anyone had any similar experience with this error? Did this fix it?

  • EXT-js PropertyGrid best practices to achieve an update ?

    - by Tom
    Hello, I am using EXT-js for a project, usually everything is pretty straight forward with EXT-js, but with the propertyGrid, I am not sure. I'd like some advice about this piece of code. First the store to populate the property grid, on the load event: var configStore = new Ext.data.JsonStore({ // store config autoLoad:true, url: url.remote, baseParams : {xaction : 'read'}, storeId: 'configStore', // reader config idProperty: 'id_config', root: 'config', totalProperty: 'totalcount', fields: [{ name: 'id_config' }, { name: 'email_admin' } , { name: 'default_from_addr' } , { name: 'default_from_name' } , { name: 'default_smtp' } ],listeners: { load: { fn: function(store, records, options){ // get the property grid component var propGrid = Ext.getCmp('propGrid'); // make sure the property grid exists if (propGrid) { // populate the property grid with store data propGrid.setSource(store.getAt(0).data); } } } } }); here is the propertyGrid: var propsGrid = new Ext.grid.PropertyGrid({ renderTo: 'prop-grid', id: 'propGrid', width: 462, autoHeight: true, propertyNames: { tested: 'QA', borderWidth: 'Border Width' }, viewConfig : { forceFit: true, scrollOffset: 2 // the grid will never have scrollbars } }); So far so good, but with the next button, I'll trigger an old school update, and my question : Is that the proper way to update this component ? Or is it better to user an editor ? or something else... for regular grid I use the store methods to do the update, delete,etc... The examples are really scarce on this one! Even in books about ext-js! new Ext.Button({ renderTo: 'button-container', text: 'Update', handler: function(){ var grid = Ext.getCmp("propGrid"); var source = grid.getSource(); var jsonDataStr = null; jsonDataStr = Ext.encode(source); var requestCg = { url : url.update, method : 'post', params : { config : jsonDataStr , xaction : 'update' }, timeout : 120000, callback : function(options, success, response) { alert(success + "\t" + response); } }; Ext.Ajax.request(requestCg); } }); and thanks for reading.

  • JS regex isn't matching, even thought it works with a regex tester

    - by Tom O
    I'm writing a piece of client-side javascript code that takes a function and finds the derivative of it, however, the regex that's supposed to match with the power rule fails to work in the context of the javascript program, even though it sucessfully matches when it's used with an independent regex tester. The browser I'm executing this on is Midori, and the operating system is Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx). Here's the HTML page being used as the interface in addition to the code: Page: <html> <head> <title> Derivative Calculator </title> <script type="text/javascript" src="derivative.js"> </script> <body> <form action="" name=form> <input type=text name=f /> with respects to <input type=text name=vr size=7 /> <input type=button value="Derive!" onClick="main(this.form)" /> <br /> <input type=text name=result value="" /> </form> </body> </html> derivative.js: function main(form) { form.result.value = derive(form.f.value, form.vr.value); } function derive(f, v) { var atom = []; atom["sin(" + v + ")"] = "cos(" + v + ")"; atom["cos(" + v + ")"] = "-sin(" + v + ")"; atom["tan(" + v + ")"] = "sec^(2)(" + v + ")"; atom["sec(" + v + ")"] = "sec(" + v + ")*tan(" + v + ")"; atom["1/(cos(" + v + "))"] = "sec(" + v + ")*tan(" + v + ")"; atom["csc(" + v + ")"] = "-csc(" + v + ")*cot(" + v + ")"; atom["1/(sin(" + v + "))"] = "-csc(" + v + ")*cot(" + v + ")"; atom["cot(" + v + ")"] = "-csc^(2)(" + v + ")"; atom["1/(tan(" + v + "))"] = "-csc^(2)(" + v + ")"; atom["sin^(-1)(" + v + ")"] = "1/sqrt(1 - " + v + "^(2))"; atom["arcsin(" + v + ")"] = "1/sqrt(1 - " + v + "^(2))"; atom["cos^(-1)(" + v + ")"] = "-1/sqrt(1 - " + v + "^(2))"; atom["arccos(" + v + ")"] = "-1/sqrt(1 - " + v + "^(2))"; atom["tan^(-1)(" + v + ")"] = "1/(1 + " + v + "^(2))"; atom["arctan(" + v + ")"] = "1/(1 + " + v + "^(2))"; atom["sec^(-1)(" + v + ")"] = "1/(|" + v + "|*sqrt(" + v + "^(2) - 1))"; atom["arcsec(" + v + ")"] = "1/(|" + v + "|*sqrt(" + v + "^(2) - 1))"; atom["csc^(-1)(" + v + ")"] = "-1/(|" + v + "|*sqrt(" + v + "^(2) - 1))"; atom["arccsc(" + v + ")"] = "-1/(|" + v + "|*sqrt(" + v + "^(2) - 1))"; atom["cot^(-1)(" + v + ")"] = "-1/(1 + " + v + "^(2))"; atom["arccot(" + v + ")"] = "-1/(1 + " + v + "^(2))"; atom["ln(" + v + ")"] = "1/(" + v + ")"; atom["e^(" + v + ")"] = "e^(" + v + ")"; atom["ln(|" + v + "|)"] = "1/(" + v + ")"; atom[v] = "1"; var match = ""; if (new Boolean(atom[f]) == true) { return atom[f]; } else if (f.match(/^[0-9]+$/)) { return ""; } else if (f.match(/([\S]+)([\s]+)\+([\s]+)([\S]+)/)) { match = /([\S]+)([\s]+)\+([\s]+)([\S]+)/.exec(f); return derive(match[1], v) + " + " + derive(match[4], v); } else if (f.match(new RegExp("^([0-9]+)(" + v + ")$"))) { match = new RegExp("^([0-9]+)(" + v + ")$").exec(f); return match[1]; } else if (f.match(new RegExp("^([0-9]+)(" + v + ")\^([0-9]+)$"))) { match = new RegExp("^([0-9]+)(" + v + ")\^([0-9]+)$").exec(f); return String((match[1] * (match[3] - 1))) + v + "^" + String(match[3] - 1); } else { return "?"; } }

  • MvvmLight EventToCommand and WPFToolkit DataGrid double-click

    Trying to figure out how to use EventToCommand to set a datagrid double click handler for rows. The command lives in the viewmodel for each row. Just that much out of my experience, since I haven't used interactions yet. Thanks. I would have used mvvmlight tag, but I don't have high enough rep yet to make new tags.

  • Assert.AreEqual() Exception in VS2010

    - by Tom Miller
    I am fairly new to unit testing and am using VS2010 to develop in and run my tests. I have a simple test, illustrated below, that simply compares 2 System.Data.DataTableReader objects. I know that they are equal as they are both created using the same object types, the same input file and I have verified that the objects "look" the same. I realize I may be dealing with a couple of issues, one being whether or not this is the proper use of Assert.AreEqual or even the proper way to test this scenario, and the other being the main issue I am dealing with which is why this test fails with this exception: Failed 00:00:00.1000660 0 Assert.AreEqual failed. Expected:<System.Data.DataTableReader>. Actual:<System.Data.DataTableReader>. Here is the unit test code that is failing: public void EntriesTest() { AuditLog target = new AuditLog(); target.Init(); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); ds.ReadXml(TestContext.DataRow["AuditLogPath"].ToString()); DataTableReader expected = ds.Tables[0].CreateDataReader(); DataTableReader actual = target.Entries.Tables[0].CreateDataReader(); Assert.AreEqual<DataTableReader>(expected, actual); } Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Unknown Build Error using WPF Toolkit

    - by Tom Allen
    I installed the Feb 2010 WPF Toolkit as I'm interested in evaluating the AutoCompleteBox control and I'm having extremely limited success. I can get the control to work, but as soon as I try and set any of it's properties in XAML, I get the following: Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'WPFToolkit, Version=3.5.40128.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event. I've been testing this on a blank WPF window in a new solution. I'm guessing I'm just missing a reference or something... Here's the XAML (I've added nothing to the .xaml.cs): <Window x:Class="WpfToolkitApplication.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:toolkit="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls;assembly=System.Windows.Controls.Input.Toolkit" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <toolkit:AutoCompleteBox Height="25"/> </Grid> </Window> The only reference I've added is System.Windows.Controls.Input.Toolkit. Any ideas?

  • Delphi Exception Handling - How to clean up properly?

    - by Tom
    I'm looking at some code in an application of ours and came across something a little odd from what I normally do. With exception handling and cleanup, we (as well as many other programmers out there, I'm sure) use a Try/Finally block embedded with a Try/Except block. Now I'm used to the Try/Except inside the Try/Finally like so: Try Try CouldCauseError(X); Except HandleError; end; Finally FreeAndNil(x); end; but this other block of code is reversed as so: Try Try CouldCauseError(X); Finally FreeAndNil(x); end; Except HandleError; end; Looking around the web, I'm seeing folks doing this both ways, with no explanation as to why. My question is, does it matter which gets the outside block and which gets the inside block? Or will the except and finally sections get handled no matter which way it is structured? Thanks.

  • Winforms TabControl causing spurious Paint events for UserControl

    - by Tom Bushell
    For our project, we've written a WinForms UserControl for graphing. We're seeing some strange behavior when our control is sited in a TabControl - our control continuously fires Paint events, even when there is absolutely no activity by the user. We only see this in the TabControl. When we site our control in other containers such as Forms or Splitters, Paint is only fired when you'd expect e.g. when the control is first displayed, etc. Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? Here's a stack trace from a breakpoint in our control's Paint handler, if that's any help. Doing a Google search doesn't turn up any definitive resources on what this is and how it should be used, can anyone point me to something along the lines of a spec/W3C standard?

  • Optimizing transition/movement smoothness for a 2D flash game.

    - by Tom
    Update 6: Fenomenas suggested me to re-create everything as simple as possible. I had my doubts that this would make any difference as the algorithm remains the same, and performance did not seem to be the issue. Anyway, it was the only suggestion I got so here it is: 30 FPS: http://www.feedpostal.com/test/simple/30/SimpleMovement.html 40 FPS: http://www.feedpostal.com/test/simple/40/SimpleMovement.html 60 FPS: http://www.feedpostal.com/test/simple/60/SimpleMovement.html 100 FPS: http://www.feedpostal.com/test/simple/100/SimpleMovement.html The code: package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.Event; import flash.events.KeyboardEvent; import flash.utils.getTimer; [SWF(width="800", height="600", frameRate="40", backgroundColor="#000000")] public class SimpleMovement extends Sprite { private static const TURNING_SPEED:uint = 180; private static const MOVEMENT_SPEED:uint = 400; private static const RADIAN_DIVIDE:Number = Math.PI/180; private var playerObject:Sprite; private var shipContainer:Sprite; private var moving:Boolean = false; private var turningMode:uint = 0; private var movementTimestamp:Number = getTimer(); private var turningTimestamp:Number = movementTimestamp; public function SimpleMovement() { //step 1: create player object playerObject = new Sprite(); playerObject.graphics.lineStyle(1, 0x000000); playerObject.graphics.beginFill(0x6D7B8D); playerObject.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 25, 50); //make it rotate around the center playerObject.x = 0 - playerObject.width / 2; playerObject.y = 0 - playerObject.height / 2; shipContainer = new Sprite(); shipContainer.addChild(playerObject); shipContainer.x = 100; shipContainer.y = 100; shipContainer.rotation = 180; addChild(shipContainer); //step 2: install keyboard hook when stage is ready addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, stageReady, false, 0, true); //step 3: install rendering update poll addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, updatePoller, false, 0, true); } private function updatePoller(event:Event):void { var newTime:Number = getTimer(); //turning if (turningMode != 0) { var turningDeltaTime:Number = newTime - turningTimestamp; turningTimestamp = newTime; var rotation:Number = TURNING_SPEED * turningDeltaTime / 1000; if (turningMode == 1) shipContainer.rotation -= rotation; else shipContainer.rotation += rotation; } //movement if (moving) { var movementDeltaTime:Number = newTime - movementTimestamp; movementTimestamp = newTime; var distance:Number = MOVEMENT_SPEED * movementDeltaTime / 1000; var rAngle:Number = shipContainer.rotation * RADIAN_DIVIDE; //convert degrees to radian shipContainer.x += distance * Math.sin(rAngle); shipContainer.y -= distance * Math.cos(rAngle); } } private function stageReady(event:Event):void { //install keyboard hook stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyDown, false, 0, true); stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, keyUp, false, 0, true); } private final function keyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void { if ((event.keyCode == 87) && (!moving)) //87 = W { movementTimestamp = getTimer(); moving = true; } if ((event.keyCode == 65) && (turningMode != 1)) //65 = A { turningTimestamp = getTimer(); turningMode = 1; } else if ((event.keyCode == 68) && (turningMode != 2)) //68 = D { turningTimestamp = getTimer(); turningMode = 2; } } private final function keyUp(event:KeyboardEvent):void { if ((event.keyCode == 87) && (moving)) moving = false; //87 = W if (((event.keyCode == 65) || (event.keyCode == 68)) && (turningMode != 0)) turningMode = 0; //65 = A, 68 = D } } } The results were as I expected. Absolutely no improvement. I really hope that someone has another suggestion as this thing needs fixing. Also, I doubt it's my system as I have a pretty good one (8GB RAM, Q9550 QuadCore intel, ATI Radeon 4870 512MB). Also, everyone else I asked so far had the same issue with my client. Update 5: another example of a smooth flash game just to demonstrate that my movement definitely is different! See http://www.spel.nl/game/bumpercraft.html Update 4: I traced the time before rendering (EVENT.RENDER) and right after rendering (EVENT.ENTER_FRAME), the results: rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 24 ms rendering took: 18 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 232 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 16 ms rendering took: 12 ms rendering took: 14 ms rendering took: 12 ms The range is 12-16 ms. During these differences, the shocking/warping/flickering movement was already going on. There is also 1 peak of 232ms, at this time there was a relatively big warp. This is however not the biggest problme, the biggest problem are the continuous small warps during normal movement. Does this give anyone a clue? Update 3: After testing, I know that the following factors are not causing my problem: Bitmap's quality - changed with photoshop to an uglier 8 colours optimized graphic, no improvement at all. Constant rotation of image while turning - disabled it, no improvement at all Browser rendering - tried to use the flash player standalone, no improvement at all I am 100% convinced that the problem lies in either my code or in my algorithm. Please, help me out. It has been almost two weeks (1 week that I asked this question on SO) now and I still have to get my golden answer. Update 1: see bottom for full flex project source and a live demo demonstrating my problem. I'm working on a 2d flash game. Player ships are created as an object: ships[id] = new GameShip(); When movement and rotation information is available, this is being directed to the corresponding ship: ships[id].setMovementMode(1); //move forward Now, within this GameShip object movement works using the "Event.ENTER_FRAME" event: addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, movementHandler); The following function is then being run: private final function movementHandler(event:Event):void { var newTimeStamp:uint = UtilLib.getTimeStamp(); //set current timeStamp var distance:Number = (newTimeStamp - movementTimeStamp) / 1000 * movementSpeed; //speed = x pixels forward every 1 second movementTimeStamp = newTimeStamp; //update old timeStamp var diagonalChange:Array = getDiagonalChange(movementAngle, distance); //the diagonal position update based on angle and distance charX += diagonalChange[0]; charY += diagonalChange[1]; if (shipContainer) { //when the container is ready to be worked with shipContainer.x = charX; shipContainer.y = charY; } } private final function getDiagonalChange(angle:Number, distance:Number):Array { var rAngle:Number = angle * Math.PI/180; //convert degrees to radian return [Math.sin(rAngle) * distance, (Math.cos(rAngle) * distance) * -1]; } When the object is no longer moving, the event listener will be removed. The same method is being used for rotation. Everything works almost perfect. I've set the project's target FPS to 100 and created a FPS counter. According to the FPS counter, the average FPS in firefox is around 100, while the top is 1000 and the bottom is 22. I think that the bottom and top FPSs are only happening during the initialization of the client (startup). The problem is that the ship appears to be almost perfectly smooth, while it should be just that without the "almost" part. It's almost as if the ship is "flickering" very very fast, you can't actually see it but it's hard to focus on the object while it's moving with your eyes. Also, every now and then, there seems to be a bit of a framerate spike, as if the client is skipping a couple of frames, you then see it quickly warp. It is very difficult to explain what the real problem is, but in general it's that the movement is not perfectly smooth. So, do you have any suggestions on how to make the movement or transition of objects perfectly smooth? Update 1: I re-created the client to demonstrate my problem. Please check it out. The client: http://feedpostal.com/test/MovementTest.html The Actionscript Project (full source): http://feedpostal.com/test/MovementTest.rar An example of a smooth flash game (not created by me): http://www.gamesforwork.com/games/swf/Mission%20Racing_august_10th_2009.swf It took me a pretty long time to recreate this client side version, I hope this will help with solving the problem. Please note: yes, it is actually pretty smooth. But it is definitely not smooth enough.

  • Android: Set a random image using setImageResource

    - by Tom Jones
    I need a help with setting a random image using setImageResource method. In the drawable folder, I have a jpeg file named photo0.jpg, photo1.jpg...photo99.jpg. And the following code works: int p = R.drawable.photo1; image.setImageResource(p); The above will display photo1.jpg but I want to show a random image. I tried the following but it doesn't work. String a = "R.drawable.photo"; int n = (int) (Math.random()*100) String b = Integer.toString(n); String c = a+b; int p = Integer.parseInt(c);//checkpoint image.setImageResource(p); It seems like the string "R.drawable.photoXX" isn't being changed to integer at the checkpoint. Could someone please teach me a right code? Thank you in advance.

  • NHibernate, Databinding to DataGridView, Lazy Loading, and Session managment - need advice

    - by Tom Bushell
    My main application form (WinForms) has a DataGridView, that uses DataBinding and Fluent NHibernate to display data from a SQLite database. This form is open for the entire time the application is running. For performance reasons, I set the convention DefaultLazy.Always() for all DB access. So far, the only way I've found to make this work is to keep a Session (let's call it MainSession) open all the time for the main form, so NHibernate can lazy load new data as the user navigates with the grid. Another part of the application can run in the background, and Save to the DB. Currently, (after considerable struggle), my approach is to call MainSession.Disconnect(), create a disposable Session for each Save, and MainSession.Reconnect() after finishing the Save. Otherwise SQLite will throw "The database file is locked" exceptions. This seems to be working well so far, but past experience has made me nervous about keeping a session open for a long time (I ran into performance problems when I tried to use a single session for both Saves and Loads - the cache filled up, and bogged down everything - see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2526675/commit-is-very-slow-in-my-nhibernate-sqlite-project). So, my question - is this a good approach, or am I looking at problems down the road? If it's a bad approach, what are the alternatives? I've considered opening and closing my main session whenever the user navigates with the grid, but it's not obvious to me how I would do that - hook every event from the grid that could possibly cause a lazy load? I have the nagging feeling that trying to manage my own sessions this way is fundamentally the wrong approach, but it's not obvious what the right one is.
