  • Convert Ubuntu 10.04 into a server?

    Hello, I have Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Desktop version installed and am interested in running it as a server. I have already installed Apache, PHP, and MySQL. I am completely new to server administration. Would somebody please point me in a good direction to setting this up? I am sure there are numerous tutorials online, but I just can't seem to find one.   • How can I draw "perfect" squiggly lines in Photoshop?

    I want to create a logo that for the two "o" characters uses a series of squiggly lines in the the shape of an "o". Sketch: I did this with Paint but I obviously want consistency with the squiggly lines and close to a circular layout. Why squiggly lines? Well, it's to reinforce the word itself being "loose". Does anyone have any ideas how to tackle making this or tutorials that do similar things to word art?

    When I first learned how to make ssh keys, the tutorials I read all stated that a good passphrase should be chosen. But recently, when setting up a daemon process that needs to ssh to another machine, I discovered that the only way (it seems) to have a key that I don't need to auth at every boot is to create a key with an empty passphrase. So my question is, what are the concerns with using a key with no passphrase?

  • Autoscaling EC2 with NFS mounts

    I'm trying to set up a shared filesystem on EC2 and I've read tutorials such as this: http://blog.ronaldmccollam.com/2012/07/configuring-nfs-on-ubuntu-in-amazon-ec2.html In step 2 it talks about configuring the exports, for this I need an IP range but when I'm auto-scaling I can't predict what the IP will be before it scales.     I've remotely installed VirtualBox OSE on my Gentoo box at home. I have everything set up and ready for the OS. However all the documentation I've read seems to say that you can only use the PUEL version in order to get remote access during installs - does anyone know if it's possible to do similar with the OSE but using VNC? Links to documentation or tutorials would be welcome, apparently my Google-Fu is failing me, if it's out there. Thanks.

  • How to re-enable Autoplay for removeable drives on Windows 7

    When I plug a USB thumb drive into my Win7 PC, it no longer auto-launches the window giving me options like "Import Photos" or "browse". The drive is recognized but nothing autolaunches. Similarly, CD's don't autoplay either.   • Mac: Cannot open the parent directory Library

    I really am about to go crazy because nothing worked out. I'm trying to access the Library folder on my OS Lion however all the tutorials related to this subject involves opening the user library however I would like to access the Library where the 'WebServer' folder is located when you enable web-sharing. Whenever I try to access it it gives me the error that I am not allowed to see what's inside and I checked my status, saying that I am an admin but it still occurs. Any help?

  • LVM Extend... not sure the filesystem

    I would like to extend my LVM partition. First I did lvextend -L +100G /dev/server/home Now I still have to extend the filesystem. The tutorials tell me to use resize2fs, but that only works for ext2 and ext3. I'm not even sure what filesystem I have... fdisk /dev/server/home/ doesn't work... how do I know what kind of filesystem I have on my lvm partition?

  • How can I copy an XP Mode virtual machine from one computer to another?

    Is it possible to copy an XP Mode Virtual PC image from one computer to a completely different computer (not on the network, not related in any way whatsoever)? I tried this, but it only would seem to work on the same computer: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/21904-virtual-xp-machine-copy.html When I copy it to another computer and modify the settings as described above, the cursor just jumps around all over the screen and never starts.

    Alright, so I need the soap extension enabled in php. When I run phpinfo(), it's not there, so I'm guessing I have to recompile? I can follow tutorials online to recompile the most recent php version for centos, but will it generally just work after that? Or does apache need to know to use the new installation?     Possible Duplicate: How do you do Load Testing and Capacity Planning for Web Sites I've seen tutorials saying they can run decent websites on 64MB RAM (Debian/Lighttpd/PHP/MySQL) however it's not clearly defined how much hits/traffic a "decent" site gets. Is there a rule of thumb on how much RAM a web server needs? To keep things simple, let's say you're running a site with static content and it's averaging at 100,000 hits per hour (HTML + images combined, no MySQL). How much RAM is the minimum requirement for that?

  • local host gives error 403 on Ubuntu

    Hello I am new to ubuntu linux and am currently trying to configure my netbeans to work with PHP. I have found several tutorials to install all the applications I need and have installed a virtual directory for netbeans to run in. Unfortunately, whenever netbeans or I myself go to my local host I get an error 403. I tried modifying my settings to allow from localhost (instead of allow from all) but this did not work and am completely out of ideas.

    :) I know I can base on tutorials that I can find on net, but there are confusing, and I know there are some of Postgres gurus here. My hardware: 2x Intel Xeon E5645 2,40 GHz / 32 GB of RAM / 2xSAS for pg_xlog (RAID1) + 3x2 SAS for rest (RAID10) + BBU and 512 MB of cache. It's gonna be used for one web project, with some big (relative term :P) tables (20mil+ of records). Server is dedicated to Posgtres service. I need help with configuring it - work_mem, effective_cache_size etc.
