  • One registry key for many products not deleted on uninstall

    My company has many products, we want to create a registry key Software\$(var.Manufacturer)that will have all of our products if our customers have installed more than one (which is likely) I then want to have a secondary key for each of our products which get removed on uninstall but the main one does not. I have tried to achieve this like below but my main key gets deleted so all of my other products also get deleted from the registry.   • Entity Framework LINQ Query using Custom C# Class Method - Once yes, once no - because executing on the client or in SQL?

    I have two Entity Framework 4 Linq queries I wrote that make use of a custom class method, one works and one does not: The custom method is: public static DateTime GetLastReadToDate(string fbaUsername, Discussion discussion) { return (discussion.DiscussionUserReads.Where(dur => dur.User.aspnet_User.UserName == fbaUsername).FirstOrDefault() ?? new DiscussionUserRead { ReadToDate = DateTime.Now.AddYears(-99) }).ReadToDate; } The linq query that works calls a from after a from, the equivalent of SelectMany(): from g in oc.Users.Where(u => u.aspnet_User.UserName == fbaUsername).First().Groups from d in g.Discussions select new { UnReadPostCount = d.Posts.Where(p => p.CreatedDate > DiscussionRepository.GetLastReadToDate(fbaUsername, p.Discussion)).Count() }; The query that does not work is more like a regular select: from d in oc.Discussions where d.Group.Name == "Student" select new { UnReadPostCount = d.Posts.Where(p => p.CreatedDate > DiscussionRepository.GetLastReadToDate(fbaUsername, p.Discussion)).Count(), }; The error I get is: LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.DateTime GetLastReadToDate(System.String, Discussion)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression. My question is, why am I able to use my custom GetLastReadToDate() method in the first query and not the second? I suppose this has something to do with what gets executed on the db server and what gets executed on the client? These queries seem to use the GetLastReadToDate() method so similarly though, I'm wondering why would work for the first and not the second, and most importantly if there's a way to factor common query syntax like what's in the GetLastReadToDate() method into a separate location to be reused in several different places LINQ queries. Please note all these queries are sharing the same object context.

  • Really basic Django E-commerce? Where do I start

    I'm trying to set up a really basic e-commerce site with Django, and am trying to figure out the best place to start. I am relatively comfortable with the framework itself, but have never done any sort of e-commerce development in any language, so I want to learn about some best practices so I don't make any huge or obvious mistakes. I've looked at Satchmo, and even went as far as installing and playing around with it, but it looks like way more than I want. I basically want to show users a list of things, and let them click a button to buy one. No cart, no shipping, just click a button, connect with Authorize.net (or something similar) to do the transaction, and then display a confirmation page. Any suggestions or online tutorials people have found helpful? Even perhaps a tutorial in another language. Or maybe a really lightweight Django plugin that doesn't try to do everything like Satchmo? I've been coming up with very little so far. Thanks!

    I have an HTML from that's posting a really big amount of data which is eventually being saved into an SQL Server 2005, the form is as follows: <form name="frmForm" method="post" action="saveData.aspx"> the target page takes the content of a control within the form and saves it to the database through a normal SQL insert statement. However only a portion of the data is being saved. The field in the database is an ntext. Should I use a different field? Or is something happening while I'm transferring from one page to another? Or even still there's something happening when I'm sending the really big SQL statement through c# in saveData.aspx?

  • Attach GestureRecogniser to multiple imageviews

    Something strange I encountered today while attaching same gesture recogniser to multiple image views. It gets attached to only the last one, in other words, it can be attached to only one view! I had to create multiple gesture recognisers to meet my requirements. Following is what I have done. Am I doing correct? Is that's the only way to attach recognisers to the multiple imageviews? Please note that I don't want to use UITableView or UIVIew and put all imageviews in it and attach gesture recogniser to only UITableView or UIVIew. I have all image scattered and I have to detect which image is being dragged. Thanks.   • Zend_Form: Is this really the way we should be doing things?

    OK. I understand how to use Zend_Form and it's implementation of the decorator pattern. My question is, is this the best way to be going about creating forms? Shouldn't a documents forms be left to to the front-end rather than generating forms programmatically? Doesn't this kinda violate the whole idea of keeping things separate? I mean, really, even providing that you have a good understanding of the methodology being employed, does it really save one that much time? I guess what I'm looking for is some guidance as to what might be considered 'best practice'. I'm not saying that Zend_Form doesn't have it's place, I'm just wondering if it should be used in all cases (or not). And this has nothing to do with validation. I'm just thinking that something more akin to using the 'ViewScript' approach might be more appropriate in most cases. Your thoughts?

  • how to verify that an old session is really destroyed?

    Um, this might sound a bit weird. We were having some problems with a specific browser under a very specific condition, and finally narrowed down the problem to the fact that we were not properly destroying the old sessions after doing session_regenerate_id(). I believe I have solved this problem by doing session_regenerate_id(true) now, but how does one verify that the previous sessions really do not exist any more? Someone suggested cURL but I cannot find my way around their docs. Sadly(?) the boss does not take 'it just works' for an answer so I'd really appreciate any advice!

  • How does timezone really work in relation to PHP and MYSQL?

    I am getting very strange results in terms of timezones. I am currently using Wordpress and everytime I register a new user, I see the wrong datetime in the database. Ok so I am suspecting it is picking up the server time. So then I then set in php.ini to have date.timezone = "America/Los_Angeles" but again the time is still not correct in the database...And yes I have also set the timezone in Wordpress correctly. So how can this be done?

    I have an issue in the mind and that is since the jump instruction changes EIP register by adding signed offsets to it(if I'm not making a mistake here), on IA-32 architecture how would going upward in memory from location 0x7FFFFFFF(biggest positive number in signed logic) to 0x80000000(least negative number in signed logic) be possible? or maybe there shouldn't be such jump due to the nature of signed logic?

    Are the modern multi-core processors really doing parallel processing? Like, take for example, Intel's core i7 processors. some of them has #of Cores: 4 and #of Threads: 8 (taken from Intel's specifications pages). If I to write a program (say in Java or C) that has multiple threads of execution, will they really be processed concurrently? My instructor said that "it is not always the case with multi-core processors", but didn't gave to much details. And why do Intel have to specify both #of Cores and #of Threads? Isn't thread just a term that describe a program-related abstraction, unlike "cores" which are actual hardware? ("Every thread runs on different core").

  • Netbook performs hard shutdown without warning on low battery power

    My Asus EEE netbook performs a hard shutdown when it reaches low battery power, without giving any warning - i.e. the power just goes off, without any shutdown process. I can't find anything in the syslog, and no error messages are printed before it happens. I've had this problem on previous (K)Ubuntu versions, and hoped updating to Ubuntu Precise would help resolve the issue, but it hasn't. The option in the Power application for "when power is critically low" is currently blank - the only options are a (grayed-out) hibernate and "Power off". I have re-installed indicator-power to no effect. The time remaining reported by acpi is unstable, as is the time remaining reported by gnome-power-statistics. (For example, running acpi twice in succession, I got 2h16min, and then 3h21min remaining. These sorts of jumps in the remaining time are also in the gnome-power-statistics graphs.) It might be possible to write a script to give me advance warning (as per @RanRag's comment below), but I would prefer to isolate why I don't get a critical battery notification from the system before this happens, so that I can take action as appropriate (suspend/shutdown/plug in power) when I get a notification. I am working on a Django project, part of which will become a distributable plugin that allows the python/django developer to specify conditional form field display logic in the form class or model class. I am trying to decide how the developer must specify that logic. Here's an example: class MyModel(models.Model): #these are some django model fields which will be used in a form yes_or_no = models.SomeField...choices are yes or no... why = models.SomeField...text, but only relevant if yes_or_no == yes... elaborate_even_more = models.SomeField...more text, just here so we can have multiple conditions #here i am inventing some syntax...i am looking for suggestions!! #this is one possibility why.show_if = ('yes_or_no','==','yes') elaborate_even_more.show_if = (('yes_or_no','==','yes'),('why','is not','None')) #help me choose a syntax that is *easy*...and Pythonic and...Djangonic...and that makes your fingers happy to type! #another alternative... conditions = {'why': ('yes_or_no','==','yes'), 'elaborate_even_more': (('yes_or_no','==','yes'),('why','is not','None')) } #or another alternative...
