• What are my audio devices?

  I'm attempting to use easycap to record from my camcorder but I'm having a slight problem. Using their test script I'm able to get audio and video. I've noticed that in the script on line 159 it makes a call to "DEV_ADUIO", which is reported as being "plughw:2,0". Exactly what is this device? Is it located in /dev/ somewhere? I've done "ls /dev/" and I can't find anything that would suggest an audio device

  I'm seeing some code like this in our code base, and want to refactor it: (Typescript psuedocode follows): class EntityManager{ private findEntityForServerObject(entityType:string, serverObject:any):IEntity { var existingEntity:IEntity = null; switch(entityType) { case Types.UserSetting: existingEntity = this.getUserSettingByUserIdAndSettingName(serverObject.user_id, serverObject.setting_name); break; case Types.Bar: existingEntity = this.getBarByUserIdAndId(serverObject.user_id, serverObject.id); break; //Lots more case statements here... } return existingEntity; } } The downsides of switching on type are self-explanatory. Normally, when switching behavior based on type, I try to push the behavior into subclasses so that I can reduce this to a single method call, and let polymorphism take care of the rest. However, the following two things are giving me pause: 1) I don't want to couple the serverObject with the class that is storing all of these objects. It doesn't know where to look for entities of a certain type. And unfortunately, the identity of a type of ServerObject varies with the type of ServerObject. (So sometimes it's just an ID, other times it's a combination of an id and a uniquely identifying string, etc). And this behavior doesn't belong down there on those subclasses. It is the responsibility of the EntityManager and its delegates. 2) In this case, I can't modify the ServerObject classes since they're plain old data objects. It should be mentioned that I've got other instances of the above method that take a parameter like "IEntity" and proceed to do almost the same thing (but slightly modify the name of the methods they're calling to get the identity of the entity). So, we might have: case Types.Bar: existingEntity = this.getBarByUserIdAndId(entity.getUserId(), entity.getId()); break; So in that case, I can change the entity interface and subclasses, but this isn't behavior that belongs in that class. So, I think that points me to some sort of map. So eventually I will call: private findEntityForServerObject(entityType:string, serverObject:any):IEntity { return aMapOfSomeSort[entityType].findByServerObject(serverObject); } private findEntityForEntity(someEntity:IEntity):IEntity { return aMapOfSomeSort[someEntity.entityType].findByEntity(someEntity); } Which means I need to register some sort of strategy classes/functions at runtime with this map. And again, I darn well better remember to register one for each my my types, or I'll get a runtime exception. Is there a better way to refactor this? I feel like I'm missing something really obvious here.

  I was wondering how computers do this. The most logical way I can think is that they are iterating trough all elements of the list until they find one that matches the condition :) For example if you call function_exists(), PHP should iterate trough all defined functions until it meets the one that matches the name you're looking for. Is this true that this is the only way? If it is, it sounds like it's not very efficient :s

  I have an SAP BI Portal system and an SAP BW system. In the Visual Administrator of the BI Portal, section 'JCo RFC Provider' I have created some RFC listeners. In the SAP BW system (in transaction SM59), I have created, tested and activated the relevant RFC connections. When I start a JCo RFC Provider in the BI Portal the BW system that it communicates with produces these errors (displayed from SAP transaction SM21): Operating system call recv failed (error no. 104 ) Module nam Line Error text Caller....   I recently installed Apache 2.4 on my local machine, together with PHP 5.4.8 using PHP-FPM.   I'm installing the Bitnami Redmine stack (redmine + subversion). Firstly I install configure and test it locally (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS). And everything is OK. I install Bitnami stack on server (Red Hat 4.4.7-4) and configure SVN. I commit files into SVN and connect project into Redmine with SVN repository, but when I try see it Rredmine displays 404 error. • Unable to install PHP-FPM on Apache (Failed to connect to FastCGI server)

  I have been having problem installing php-fpm for use with apache2-mpm-worker. This is the guide that I am following. According to the guide's Step 5, Alias /php5-fcgi /usr/lib/cgi-bin/php5-fcgi FastCgiExternalServer /usr/lib/cgi-bin/php5-fcgi -host 127.0.0.1:9000 -pass-header Authorization However I cannot find php5-fcgi at /usr/lib, but only /usr/bin/php5-cgi and /usr/bin/php-cgi, which I am not sure if they are the same. • BAT file will not run from Task Scheduler but will from Command Line

  I'm trying to run a BAT script from Task Scheduler in Windows 2008 R2 and it runs for 3 seconds and then stops. It says it successfully completes but I know it doesn't. I can run this script from the command line directly, and it runs just fine. The bat file I'm running actually deletes files older than 7 days using "forfiles" then I'm mapping a network drive, moving the files across the network using robocopy, and then closing the network connection. I have taken the network and copy options out of the file and it still does the same thing. • Exchange 2003: Fresh install, couple noob questions.

  Hi All, Thanks for reading! I have a small network set up for a local office here, and have a fresh install of Exchange 2003 on our sole-server PDC. The network uses one domain, call it ourdomain.net, which is DNSed locally, but not DNSed for the actual domain, so ourdomain.net works from within the network, but from outside, it's just pointed to some domain parking. I have a completely different domain, call it emaildomain.com, which is currently setup for our website and email, which is hosted with a standard hosting company. We've been using a combination of Thunderbird and Outlook (with local .pst files) for email. I've been asked to setup Exchange to work with our email, but am not familiar with it. The install seems to have gone just fine. The question is: How do I get email from a domain outside our network to work with the exchange server? Do I need to move the email for that domain to point to our local server (I so hope not!), or can I just set exchange so somehow slurp mail from the existing mailboxes on our host for that domain's mail? Or are there better ideas I don't know to ask for? Any help very appreciated - thanks!

  I am running SOLR on jetty in Ubuntu (a bitnami VM, if that helps) and am trying to lock down access to both the admin pages and the update/delete/etc. pages using basic authentication. When I attempt to connect to the admin console via a web browser I am prompted for a user name and password, but the username and password I use simply does not work. For test purposes I am using foo:bar as the credentials, but I receive a '401 Unauthorized' response. • Tomcat 7 taking ages to start up after upgrade

  I recently updated my server installation from Tomcat 6 to Tomcat 7, in order to take advantage of better connection pooling. My project uses Hibernate, for object persistance, a Mysql 5.5.20 database, and memcached for caching. When I was using Tomcat 6, Tomcat would start in about 8 seconds. After moving to Tomcat 7, it now takes between 75 - 80 seconds to start (this is on a Macbook pro 15", core i7 2Ghz, 8Gb of RAM). Could anyone shed some light on what might be causing this? Have I done something dense in my context.xml? Is hibernate perhaps to blame?
