• IE8 Crash On Startup

  Hello All, I have a problem - IE8 has suddenly stopped working. I was doing some development work, and suddenly IE8 crashed every time I tried to use it. I've rebooted, but still crash every time I try to open it. There is no real indication as to what has gone wrong. It just says "Internet Explorer has stopped working". I've tried almost everything that I've seen when I've Googled it: I disabled all Add-Ins via Manage Add-Ins, but it still crashes on startup* I re-registered IEPROXY.DLL * The thing I don't understand is that if I start from the Run box with the -extoff option, IE starts up. Isn't that the same as disabling all Add-Ins? Any ideas? Thanks, wTs

• Windows Server 2003 seems to pick the 'outgoing' IP address at random from all the ones configured in IIS, how can I make it just use one?

  We have multiple sites in IIS with different IP addresses. This is cool, want different IPs to all go to this server and use the proper site. However I discovered an issue that when the server makes an outgoing connection, I cannot predict which IP it will use. I had to have one client add ALL the IPs to their firewall so that a certain service could communicate with their server. Well now the time has come to add another IP/site to IIS but I had told them they would not need to add any more IPs. So the question is, how can I make Windows Server 2003 use only ONE specific IP for outgoing calls instead of it being unpredictable? If this is not a good enough description, when I was RDPed into the server and I opened IE and went to 'what is my IP' it was sometimes different which is how I discovered why the one client's firewall was suddenly refusing the connections. How can I just make outgoing calls originate from a static IP yet still allow multiple IPs pointing to different sites in IIS?

• easy Switching to open folders on a mac

  How do I easily switch to an open folder on a mac? In windows, which I'm used to using, I can see all my opened folders in my vertical taskbar, all i need to do to switch to another window is click on the folder in the task bar. There's no taskbar in mac, and when i have a lot of folders opened, ie, lots of finder windows, how can I switch between them? The way i'm doing it is, i put expose on an active corner and switch that way. However that's still damn hard, because first i have to bring up expose, and then find my window. The folders are placed in a random position between opened apps, the folders are not in a list, and on a big screen i have to scan the whole screen in order to find the one i want... etc. Is it really this hard just to switch to a different folder on a mac? :(

• "The Operation Failed." accepting METHOD: PUBLISH iCalendar files in .pst account

  if I create a new Mail Profile using the Internet E-mail wizard, ie, creating a new local .pst account, and then try to add a .ics iCalendar file with a METHOD of PUBLISH to the calendar of that account, I get the error "The Operation Failed." If I change any of the above it works ok, eg, if I use an Exchange account or METHOD: REQUEST in the iCalendar file. I'm using Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 but I think the user that originally reported this was using Outlook 2007. Does anyone have any idea of why this might be? Thanks, Jamie Kitson

• prevent domain controller using wpad for windows update

  We have a 2012 domain controller in an environment where we are running a web proxy auto discovery (WPAD) setup for client devices, and that proxy server requires authentication. However windows update does not support proxy servers requiring authentication. So we want to prevent windows update on our servers from using the WPAD proxy settings. On a domain member server we can log in to the local administrator account (not domain admin) and un-tick the the "Auto detect proxy settings" in IE internet options and that fixes the issue on those servers. But a domain controller does not have a local admin account, as that account is the domain admin account. Doing this to the domain admin account on the DC does not prevent it from using WPAD. Our whole purpose of running a proxy server that requires authentication is so we can identify what the users on our session based remote desktop servers are doing on the internet. LG 23" LCD And would you recommend getting a keyboard to use (ie not using the laptop one?) seems like it would be kinda awkward otherwise.   Hello, What is a good MTA (e.g. Postfix or something else) setup for a home computer behind a NAT, or a laptop that connects to various different wifi networks? I've read a lot of Postfix tutorials on how to set it up this way or that, but they are usually geared towards computers that are servers ie they have a static IP have a domain name are always connected to the same network My requirements are, I guess: Ability to forward mail for "root" to another server of my choosing. No listening for incoming SMTP connections - outgoing only Ability to route outgoing mail via an external SMTP server with authentication (and perhaps encryption) If not Postfix, I need an MTA which can queue up mails in case it temporarily has no internet connection.

• HP OfficeJet 5600 w/ Dlink DPR1260 not printing except from Notepad

  I have an OfficeJet5600 attached to a Dlink DPR1260 wireless print router. It has worked great for a long time. Today we had a power outage and the thing was inaccessible. I reset the DPR1260 and reinstalled drivers and soforth. I can now print from Notepad, but not from any Office programs, IE, or Chrome. I have toggled on and off many settings such as spooling/not spooling, etc. Nothing has helped. Any ideas? I have Windows Vista.

• Adobe Flash not working anymore with Browsers

  Hi guys, I have a really annoying problem: essentially, Adobe Flash is not working anymore. For instance, I cant watch any clip on youtube and I always get a black screen saying: Movie not loaded ... I have the newest Flash version (10.0.45.2), and the problem is the same with IE, Firefox or Chrome. I am using WIN XP and I turned of Antivirus software as well as Firewall, still I cant watch any flash stuff. Anyone an idea what could have happened in the last week? Never had a problem before that! Thanks!

• Chrome Saved Passwords security issue

  If I save a password in Google chrome someone else can easily see the password from Setting -> Advance Settings -> Manage saved passwords -> Show (in required password field) and use it from another computer. Isn't it causing a security issue? I guess it is much secure if it display only the entry and all dots or something for the password (not the actual password). Is there any acceptable idea of showing the password to anyone this easily? Note: Firefox is also showing the actual passwords, I Didn't check in IE.

• SBS 2003 no network connection and acting strangely a bunch of Event ID 13568

  I've got an SBS 2003 Standard server and it was running fine until earlier today when it was rebooted, after the reboot it has no network connection, I can't seem to right click on a lot of stuff and get dialog boxes, I can't launch IE, it's acting extremely strange. We are dead in the water at this point. I checked the event logs and noticed we're getting a ton of Event ID's 13568. I thought it was a Journal Wrap error, and while I was going to try to fix it using this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762 I can't even do that because after I set the D4 value, then went to restart NTFRS from command prompt and I got the following: System Error 1059 has occurred. Circular service dependency was specified. That is where I'm at and haven't been able to figure anything else out. • Schedule Task run Without Being Logged in

  I have seen similar threads here and on the net, but I think my question is slightly different than what I can find... I have a script that runs perfectly when logged in with a service account I created specifically to run this script. But when I schedule it to run it hangs when trying to launch IE (the first part of my script). Without being logged in with that account I can watch the processes with task manager and see the processes running, but the script never finishes. I want to be able to run this script without needing to be logged in at all or even have the account be locked all the times. Is this possible? Or do I have to have the user account logged in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Extension icons in Chrome for Mac have disappeared

  On my new MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and Google Chrome for Mac, 5.0.307.11 beta, some (but not all) of the icons for extensions have disappeared. I can tell SOMETHING is still there, because the space is occupied and you can see it indent as you mouse over it. You can also see the name of the extension pop up in a balloon below. But the extension icon is invisible and the extension itself doesn't work. Right now it's happened with Google Translate, the show-in-IE extension, Wikipedia Chromium, Send with GMail and Clip to Evernote. The LastPass and Feedly extension icons are still visible. Any ideas on how to get them back and stop this from happening again? Seth Williamson

• What causes random clicking/navigation sound while PC is idle?

  On my Dell D630 laptop running Windows XP Pro SP3, I randomly hear the "Windows Navigation Start.wav" played. This happens even if the only application active on the PC at the time is Microsoft Outlook and no one is touching the keyboard or touchpad. The start navigation sound IS enabled for Internet Explorer (I have IE 7 installed), but it is not running (no window open, anyway). The clicks are rapid, as if being executed automatically by a script or process, and they always come in threes: "click-click, click". I don't see any changes on the display and I don't know how to figure out what's running that could cause this. I have tried to leave Windows Task Manager open in the hope that I'll see a process name jump to the top of the list briefly, but it doesn't happen that often and I guess I'm not quick enough. The PC is slower than I think it should be, but System Idle Process is at 96 - 99 during the event, and for most of the time when I'm not actually using the machine. Any ideas?

• Embedded video is not shown in internet explorer 9 RC or Beta

  In IE 9 RC or in beta, the embedded video is not shown in the web page. I verified the security settings in "internet options". Did not find any issue. Please find the screen shot below. I am able to view the flash videos in Youtube. But, for some reason, in some sites the embedded video is not shown. I don't have this issue with firefox. UPDATE: I am able to see view the embedded video in Admin account. But not able to view it in Standard account.

Details: I have ubuntu in pc that worked with wired internet. i format all disk and install windows xp sp3. i have auto internet that defined in my router - other computers have internet. I run diagnoze of ie and get: windows could not detect any wired or wireless network cards installed on your machine In Device Manager i have only 1394 Adapter I dont see any internet adapters. • OSX: Selecting default application for all unknown and different file types (extensions)

  I work in cluster computing and am using Mac OS X 10.6. I send off hundreds of computing jobs a day, and each one comes back with with a different extension. For example, svmGeneSelect.o12345 which is the std output of my svmGeneSelect job which is job number 12345. I don't control the extensions. All files are plain text. I want OSX to open any file extension that it hasn't seen before with my favorite text editor when I click on it. Or even better set up file association defaults for extension patterns ie textEdit for extensions matching *.o*. I do NOT want to create file associations for individual files since this extension will only ever exist once, and I do not want to go through the process of selecting the application to use for each file. • IIS is overriding my response content, if i manually set the Response.StatusCode

  Hi Folks, Problem when i manually set the HTTP Status of my Response stream to .. say 404 or 503, IIS renders up the stock IIS content/view, instead of my custom view. When I do this with the Web Development Server (aka. Casinni), it works correctly (ie. my content is displayed and the response.statuscode == my entered data. Is there anyway I can override this behaviour? • Intermittent freeze of Windows 7 x64 on laptop

  I have Lenovo W500, 8GB RAM, 250GB Crucial SSD running Windows 7 x64 using boot-to-vhd. Lately I started to experience some random freezes for 5-30 seconds. And when I say "freeze" I mean it; it's like a time machine - no input taken, nothing is written anywhere, no log, no disk activity. And then suddenly machine would wake up and continue as if nothing happened. I do suspect that it's one of the drivers but I don't see any updates in the log lately except for .NET 4 framework and Adobe Reader. Out of new or updated software I can only recall Skype and IE9 but freezes started to occur definitely before IE install. Regular software includes but not limited to: Office 2010, VMWare Workstation, IE9, Chrome, Skype, Seesmic/TweeterDeck, Live Writer. How should I approach the "hunting season" to find our the culprit? Any tools or packages that could help me to identify the component, program, driver that causes the freeze? Cheers

  Hello everyone I have a SD memory card which is of local manufacturer it allows to read & copy from it but not write as it is now write-protected so i want to format that card but could not. To format this card I have tried 1) DD command 2) mkfs -f vfat command 3) creating registry entry under storage device policy in window with write value 0 4) disk part command in window to clear attributes in which it show all attributes are clear ie no write protection 5) I format card in windows through control panel - administrative tools- computer management - disk management, then it show as formatted but when I tried to create new partition it give CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK error 6) I downloaded a format utility from transcend site and formatted first it shows write protected again doing format it formats and tells to remove and reinsert after reinsertion it shows the previous data as it is

We've got the model 3 ones, but can't find the driver disc and using the Windows Hardware Installation Wizard gets me no where! Can you help me to find the driver? When I've used it at my old school it had a piece of software called the Digital Movie Creator, which I've heard you can use to make stop-motion films, which is what I want to do!   Hello, I went through the archives here and the Wikipedia page on Project management software, but didn't find information on this type of application to manage projects: Native Windows application (don't like web-based solutions; prefer native to cross-platform) Free or affordable, ie. not an Enterprise solution Scalable from one to a few concurrent users Like MS Projet et al., a project consists in tasks which can be further divided into sub-tasks, and the whole thing is displayed in an tree list An item that has a date set (either start/due) must be displayed in a Calendar view, so it's easy to know what work must be done each day The Calendar view must somehow sync with smartphones (at least BlackBerry) At this point, the apps I know either don't provide a Calendar at all, or do but they can't sync with smartphones, which forces me to copy/paste scheduled items into Outlook so they are synced with my BlackBerry :-/ Thank you for any help.

  I have a LG smart Tv with browser. I need the tv browser to connect to a uk based proxy server on port 808. Unfortunately there is no option within tv to setup proxy for its browser. Now the Tv connects via a wireless connection to the internet. IE: TV <- D-Link DIR-605L <- ADSL <- WWW. Is it possible to setup this wireless router to connect the TV to the Proxy ?? If so ? where ? and what setings do i need to change in the wireless router ?? In short my question is ? How do i get the wireless router to make up for the lack of proxy connectivity within my Tv browser ?? • How to diagnose "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage"

  Our web site is working great for 99.99% of our users, but a few people (all of whom use Internet Explorer) are running into an error. Most pages on the site load fine, but for one specific page (the same page for all affected users), all they get is: Internet explorer cannot display the webpage It doesn't matter whether the page is accessed over http or https - it fails to load either way. Every other page on the site, as far as I can tell, works fine for them. Not only that, the same users can load that specific page fine in Firefox. I've checked the web server logs and I can't find any smoking guns there. The site is running IIS on Windows Server 2003. Is there any way to get IE to give the user more information than just "cannot display the web page"? There's a "More information" button, but all it tells you is to make sure that your DNS servers are working, make sure you're not working offline, etc. :(

• Windows 8 - can't drag files from Explorer and drop on applications

  In Windows 8 I find I can't drag files to applications like I've been able to do for as long as I can remember. Example: Drag MP3s to Winamp Drag folder full of music to Winamp Drag videos to VLC Drag txt, reg etc files to Notepad I have tried various combinations of: Running Explorer as administrator Running drop target as administrator Taking ownership of drop target application's folder Taking ownership of Explorer Changing user account to administrator Create a new user account Lowering UAC level Disabling UAC in GUI Disabling UAC in registry Running Explorer folders in a separate thread This is the last straw if there's no known proper (ie non hacky compromise) fix for this. "Little" things like this combined are a productivity nightmare and if I have to relearn so much and configure so much to get basic things done with an OS I might as well just move to Linux once and for all.
