  • data structure algorithms for database searching

    - by Ygam
I was used to the traditional way of doing database searching with the following using wildcards for term searches using where clause for specific data like addresses and names but at other times, I found these common methods to produce code that is so bloated, especially when it comes to complex searches. Are there algorithms out there that you use for complex database searching? I tried to look for some but had a hard time doing so. I stumbled accross the binary search but I can't find a use for it :(

  • I'm looking for a better solution on importing catalog data into Adobe InDesign

    - by John Thompson
The last time I produced a catalog I used a software called EasyCatalog that worked with Adobe InDesign to merge data from a spreadsheet with graphics. I wouldn’t say it was completely successful. I know of one other catalog building software called Catalog Builder by Computer Pundits. I'm just looking for any suggestions from someone who might have gone through this process on what software I should use.

  • Training sets for AdaBoost algorithm

    - by palau1
How do you find the negative and positive training data sets of Haar features for the AdaBoost algorithm? So say you have a certain type of blob that you want to locate in an image and there are several of them in your entire array - how do you go about training it? I'd appreciate a nontechnical explanation as much as possible. I'm new to this. Thanks.

  • Getting XML data from a external page and parsing it with PHP

    - by James P
I'm trying to create a database of World of Warcraft gems. If I go to this page: http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=purple&searchType=items And go to View Source in Firefox, I see a tonne of XML data which is exactly what I want. I wrote up this quick script to try and parse some of it: <?php $gemUrls = array( 'Blue' => 'http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=blue&searchType=items', 'Red' => 'http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=red&searchType=items', 'Yellow' => 'http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=yellow&searchType=items', 'Meta' => 'http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=meta&searchType=items', 'Green' => 'http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=green&searchType=items', 'Orange' => 'http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=orange&searchType=items', 'Purple' => 'http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=purple&searchType=items', 'Prismatic' => 'http://www.wowarmory.com/search.xml?fl[source]=all&fl[type]=gems&fl[subTp]=purple&searchType=items' ); // Get blue gems $blueGems = file_get_contents($gemUrls['Blue']); $xml = new SimpleXMLElement($blueGems); echo $xml->items[0]->item; ?> But I get a load of errors like this: Warning: SimpleXMLElement::__construct() [simplexmlelement.--construct]: Entity: line 20: parser error : xmlParseEntityRef: no name in C:\xampp\htdocs\WoW\index.php on line 19 Warning: SimpleXMLElement::__construct() [simplexmlelement.--construct]: if(Browser.iphone && Number(getcookie2("mobIntPageVisits")) < 3 && getcookie2( in C:\xampp\htdocs\WoW\index.php on line 19 I'm not sure what's wrong. I think file_get_contents() is bringing back data that isn't XML, maybe some Javascript files judging by the iPhone parts in the errors. Is there any way to just get back the XML from that page? Without any HTML or anything? Thanks :)

    - by Hauke
Since CoreData has become available for the iPhone in OS 3.0, is it meant to be the answer to data persistence and replace all need for direct SQLite? What reasons exist to still use SQLite? What are advantages/disadvantages of SQLite vs. CoreData?

  • Store GZIP:ed text in mysql?

    - by Industrial
Hi! Is it a common thing for bigger applications and databases to GZIP text data before inserting it to the database? I'll guess that any full-text search on the actual text field will not be working before unzipping it again? Thansks

  • WPF Property Data binding to negate the property

    - by azamsharp
Is there any way to change the value of property at runtime in WPF data binding. Let's say my TextBox is bind to a IsAdmin property. Is there anyway I can change that property value in XAML to be !IsAdmin. I just want to negate the property so Valueconverter might be an overkill! NOTE: Without using ValueConverter

  • How to output binary data to a socket with Ruby

    - by Earlz
Hello I have a very simple HTTP ruby server. I want it to simply server a PNG image. So I sent headers like image/png but I think that Ruby is converting the image data to a string first. Here is my relevant code webserver = TCPServer.new('127.0.0.1', 20001) while (session = webserver.accept) #.... file = File.open("tmp_testserve.png", "rb") contents = file.read file.close session.print @content session.close #.... Is this what is happening?
