• ZeroDowntime deployment of configuration in Tomcat 7

  looking at the things which can be done with the Parallel deployments in Tomcat 7, I wonder how new or changed configuration could be provided to these various versions of the application. In a nutshell - what parallel deployment offers is that pushing a new version of a war file to the webapps dir (with filenames like "App##01.war, "App##02.war") and ever user with a new session will get the newer version, all others stay with the old version. So how could one provide different or additional configuration (properties) to the various versions? Cheers.

  I need to read some .docx files and the standard 3.0.1 version of OpenOffice writer that comes with Unbuntu 9.04 just ain't handling it. I tried the instructions from the following site: http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Install-OpenOffice-org-3-1-on-Ubuntu-9-04-111105.shtml, both the GUI steps in the main article, and a scripted version in one of the comments, but my system never seems to do the partial update, and the OpenOffice version is unchanged after I uninstall and reinstall it from the command line. Has anybody had similar problems?

• Broken Python installation on CentOS 5.8

  I already searched for solution to my problem via Google and stackoverflow's search facility, but haven't found anything related specifically to it. Here's the problem: I needed python 2.7.3 on CentOS 5.8 machine which has only python 2.4.3 preinstalled. Also neither there's the suitable version in it's repositories nor I can upgrade installed version. That's why I decided to build python from source code. But I've made a mistake: instead of make altinstall I did make install thus changing default version of the current installation. It was before I found this article - How to install Python 2.7.3 on CentOS 6.2 . I guess 5.8 and 6.2 versions aren't different to the extent this article is inapplicable. After installation of new python version I installed pip, but once I tried to invoke it, I got "No module named pkg_resources" error. In order to solve this issue I installed setuptools from repository. But it had only led to another error: "Distribution Not Found". My final step was to follow the guide I posted the link to, but I was unable to perform last step: easy_install-2.7 virtualenv command threw "-bash: /usr/local/bin/easy_install-2.7: .: bad interpreter: Permission denied" error. Now when I try to invoke pip or pip-2.7 both commands raise the same error with different names of binaries after "-bash:". Is there any way to fix this problem, so I could install new python version (2.7.3) alongside with the preinstalled one (2.4.3) according to the guide? Any help will be appreciated. P.S.: yum is working fine, although it needs python to function, so I hope the damage I unknowingly caused isn't very severe. Also I'm not a native English speaker, so I apologize for possible occasional grammatical and/or spelling errors.

• Upgrading from php 5.3 to php 5.4 with Macport

  PHP5.4 has been available for sometime now and Macport recently caught up with the release of port php54 but the process of upgrading is not as clear as possible. Even worst for those who are new to maintaining multiple versions of PHP on the same machine. I am keen on trying out some of the new features in PHP5.4 like traits, new array form etc but falling back on to php5.3 for other compatibility stuff. So i sudo port install php5+ (all the variants, apache2 etc) Then i tell it what PHP port to use as default sudo port select --set php php54 Check what version of PHP is active in the terminal using php -v outputs php 5.4.3. But i seem to be having issues with choosing the right non cli version as in the version of the module run by apache etc is still php5.3.12. Do i have to change the reference to the libphp5 in apache httpd.conf? Any advice on the right workflow for switching between php version on macport greatly appreciated!

• Go back to 32-bit Java in OS X so I can use Chrome

  Recently Apple released a Java update. I mindlessly downloaded and installed it, thinking it must be good (I know that was stupid on my part). Now chrome doesn't work where sites require Java support. In terminal, java -version shows I have the 64bit version installed. I know Chrome does not support 64bit Java. I'd like to go back to the last version that worked for me, the 32-bit version. I don't want to use Safari or Firefox. I'd like Chrome to work. I have too much invested in customizing it to work with another browser.

The original file can be seen by my computer friend. What can I do to make the new version of the pps file to be viewable on the computer of my friend? Any tips? • Is Rsync like subversion, but for a server?

  I'm trying to learn how to use rsync. I want to create daily backs up of my production server. Right now I run the command rsync -azr /var/www/* [email protected]:/var/www Now let's say one day, I want to roll back the /var/www/ directory on my production server to last month's version. How do I tell rsync to retrieve version N? On reading that rsync only copies differences between src and dest, I assumed rsync works like subversion where you commit changes to a destination, and keep track of every version, and with the option to checkout any version at anytime. Is that the way rsync works? It's like subversion but for an entire server? That would be great because then it means I don't have to do full ssh copies for my nightly backups.

  I was using XAMPP and decided to uninstall it and use MacOS' in-built apache and php modules. But while uninstalling XAMPP I deleted /usr/bin/php files and other PHP-CLI files accidentally. And I decided to install newest version of PHP (5.5.12) instead of rebuilding current version (5.4.24). Downloaded it and unzip. This line from my httpd.conf LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so coming from old version and i couldn't ind libphp5.so for new version. • Updating autoreconf

  So I need to use the autoreconf to configure a package. However I need at least version 2.61. I'm on CentOS 5.8 and it seems like there's no package for it so I went on to compile it myself. So I get the source of autoconf from http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/ and compiled that. And sure when I do autoconf -V it shows up as version 2.68 which is indeed the latest version. However autoreconf (nothing the re) still shows up as the old version 2.59 which causes me some problems. So could someone help a relatively new linux user, updating autoreconf properly? Thanks

  our servers need to update the libxml2 version from 2.2.26 to 2.9 (latest version). It is no problem that we have been installed the libxml2-2.9 version on our servers. but the problem is how can we config the libs path of libxml2 path in php? Since it still show the old version on phpinfo(). What we have do is 1. Install libxml2 2.7.X on CentOS 5.X Using yum to install local files, and typed yum info libxml2, it shows 2.9 was installed. • Couldn't start mysql service in linux

  Iam trying to install one version of mysql in a LINUX machine. The system contain already another version of mysql installation. I prefer manual installation. Copy the exctracted tarball into a location and create symbolic link to that. I wish to install my mysql version without affecting already installed mysql version in the system. I created mysqld as service. But It couldn't start. When Iam trying to start this mysqld process, it shows an error like: Starting MySQL............................................................ ......................................... ERROR! The server quit without updating PID file (/var/lib/mysql/Test.pid). Please help me, is any wrong with my installation??? • Replacement for public folder workflow, I'm confused as to how sharepoint does it.

  For years Microsoft has been slowly phasing out public folders, perhaps exchange 2010 really is the LAST TIME they'll be shipped... I've heard sharepoint is the replacement, but I don't understand full, can someone give me an idea of how to replace this workflow? In our office, we have projects, they have a project number, ie 10353. Each job folder has a public folder, organized in a hierachy like Projects Year Folder Subfolders The main subfolder we use is for genera correspondence. When an email is received that relates to a project, it is dragged and dropped (or right click move to) a public folder. Adding public folder favourites for each user helps this. When an email is sent, we have a custom email form, which is the default email form, but with a project number field next to the subject line. When you enter the job number in there, it carbon copies our filing system in, which reads the job number and puts the email in the public folder for you. if you need to refer to emails, you go to public folder and find them there. This isn't the best with large jobs, but it works ok. Now, I have limited experience with sharepoint (well, WSS), we've used it to do some neat discussion boards/polls etc as an intranet site, but I haven't seen much of its integration with outlook. The great thing about our solution is how tightly it integrates with outlook which is exactly where the emails are. If you want to forward an old email, you go to public folder and forward it, simple. Any solution that replaces it should be at least as easy as this. Improvements we would like would be to have better searching of emails, better support in exchange (ie future version) and also, custom forms in outlook are being phased out (the VBA kind), so avoiding these would be good. Does sharepoint do this? or what solutions do this kind of thing?

  Hello I'm trying to install an older application named headline.exe. I'm getting an error message saying the the program has to end and asking if I want to notify Microsoft. The event logs says "Faulting application _untitled.exe version 1.0.0.1591, faulting module flash6.ocx, version 6.0.88.0, fault address blah blah blah. I uninstalled flash and installed version 6 of Flash and nothing changed. Any thoughts? Thanks

I noticed it today, after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04, although I'm not entirely sure this is the cause as I played with my ssh keys a few days ago. • safari 5 doesnt work on my computer.

  I have a table containing data of sold products (shown in the example on the left): Columns: Number of the order Product Name Attribute - specifies what is given in the following field "value", e. g. Customer Name or Product Variant Value - is the value of the Attribute Count - is the number of products of this variant sold in the order That means: Product B has 2 variants "c" and "d" Note that in Order 1 Product B was sold in Variant d only, because the letter "N" in field "D4" means "none". Note, that in OrdnerNo 3 Product B was sold only in Variant c, because for Variant d field "D9" is "N"!! This is confusing, but it is the structure of the original data (which I can not change). I need a way to convert the table on the left in a table like that on the right: one line for each product type Order Number Product Name Customer Name Count (number of products sold in this order) Variant - this is the problem, as it has to be filled with the So all rows with the same OrderNo and same product have to be grouped in to one, and I hope it is clear what I need. I tried to do it with Pivot Tables, but that fails, as the Count is always in each line, no matter if it has Value "N" or not and for the products without variants there is only one line for each order, however for products with variants there are several... So how could I create the right table with a VBA macro in MS Excel or maybe there is a trick in MS Access to do it directly or with an SQL query?

• Apache Server with memcache, varnish and php slow request times

  My issue is that these servers are taking rather long for request about 2 seconds on average just to serve files. When we had just one server doing everything it was noticeably faster even with the same web app (Drupal 6 and Drupal 7). I want to get this number down to a reasonable level and so I need some help getting to the bottom of why the request times are so slow. This can cause the webapp to hang on post or put and generally leads to a bad user experience on my sites. PS: I am more of a server newbie so this has confounded me for quite some time. The domains: collabornation.net nptrainingworks.com (they run off the same two webservers using vhost configs) The Gear: Two Rackspace 4 Gig servers running CentOS 6.2 Final They have a mounted file system (gluster) that is used to keep files the same on both machines. They are behind a rackspace load balancer running round robin. Mysql is run using php-pdo and php-mysql as such mysql is run on another instance running memcache on that machine with phpMyAdmin located there as well. Your profile can not be used because it is from a newer version of Google Chrome. Some features may be unavailable. Please specify a different profile directory or use a newer version of Chrome. • Can't remove zfs log device from pool

  I run a FreeBSD 9.0 server with ZFS pool version 28 and ZFS version 5. I had two pools with a log on ssd's two partitions. These pools was created on FreeBSD 8.2 with ZFS pool version 15, and ZFS version 4. After I upgraded to the new zfs version, I tried to remove the SSD log device from both pools both command was successful (no error message). One of the pools was the log removed, but the other still there, I down the server removed the ssd physically, and hoped it will be forgot by the zpool. The zpool became degraded as ssd was missing. I tied to remove again. No error message, but the log device entry still there. After it, to became the pool online again, I created a file on the root UFS partition and replaced the missing to device to this file. It was successful, the pool again online. However I can't remove the log device from the pool. Where can I have to look for error messages? (in dmesg there is nothing about it, also the zfs remove doesn't have any error message, it's seem like it was successful.

• JRE not running correctly on Windows 7 64Bit

  An application called DBGL (DosBox Game Launcher) requires JRE in order to run successfully. I had it installed and running on my old Windows 7 32Bit machine without any problems. Today I got my new PC with Windows 64Bit and I cannot get it running anymore. If I install the latest JRE 32Bit version to the \Program Files (x86) folder DBGL says it needs the latest JRE version in order to run and doesn't start. If I install the latest JRE 64Bit version to the \Program Files folder I do not get an error message anymore but the application doesn't start either. Clicking it has literally no effect. Right now I have both JRE versions running parallely and I get the same result I have when only the 64Bit version is installed. Thanks in advance!

• ubuntu usb that can be booted on mac and windows?

  I am a little frustrated having to use to separate USBs for booting on mac and windows. Is there a way that I can have the version for mac and the version for windows on one USB? or even better, one version that can be booted on both? I have heard of multibootiso, but I'm not entirely sure that it will work on imac. If needed, I am willing to use terminal to make this happen, even if its a long complicated process.
