  • How can i shorten my code for various winform calls in MDI

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    I have a mdi where i have several line of code like the given below. Only chage is Form object which is being opened. So I want to all this work using only single function defination. When I tries to capture sender it gives me ToolStipMenuItem here. But I want its sender to be form name so that I can open its corresponding form. private void purchaseInvoiceToolStripMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Forms.PurchaseInvoice purinv = new DigitalInvy.Forms.PurchaseInvoice(); purinv.Show(); } private void lederGroupsToolStripMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Forms.LedgerGroup lgrp = new DigitalInvy.Forms.LedgerGroup(); lgrp.Show(); } private void voucherEntryToolStripMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Forms.VoucherEntry ventry = new DigitalInvy.Forms.VoucherEntry(); ventry.Show(); } private void currencyToolStripMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Forms.CurrencyMaster currency = new DigitalInvy.Forms.CurrencyMaster(); currency.Show(); } private void countryToolStripMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Forms.CountryMaster country = new DigitalInvy.Forms.CountryMaster(); country.Show(); }

  • IHttpAsyncHandler and IObservable web requests

    - by McLovin
    Within Async handler I'm creating an IObservable from webrequest which returns a redirect string. I'm subscribing to that observable and calling AsyncResult.CompleteCall() but I'm forced to use Thread.Sleep(100) in order to get it executed. And it doesn't work every time. I'm pretty sure this is not correct. Could you please shine some light. Thank you! public IAsyncResult BeginProcessRequest(HttpContext context, AsyncCallback cb, object state) { _context = context; _ar = new AsyncResult(cb, state); _tweet = context.Request["tweet"]; string url = context.Request["url"]; if(String.IsNullOrEmpty(_tweet) || String.IsNullOrEmpty(url)) { DisplayError("<h2>Tweet or url cannot be empty</h2>"); return _ar; } _oAuth = new oAuthTwitterRx(); using (_oAuth.AuthorizationLinkGet().Subscribe(p => { _context.Response.Redirect(p); _ar.CompleteCall(); }, exception => DisplayError("<h2>Unable to connect to twitter, please try again</h2>") )) return _ar; } public class AsyncResult : IAsyncResult { private AsyncCallback _cb; private object _state; private ManualResetEvent _event; private bool _completed = false; private object _lock = new object(); public AsyncResult(AsyncCallback cb, object state) { _cb = cb; _state = state; } public Object AsyncState { get { return _state; } } public bool CompletedSynchronously { get { return false; } } public bool IsCompleted { get { return _completed; } } public WaitHandle AsyncWaitHandle { get { lock (_lock) { if (_event == null) _event = new ManualResetEvent(IsCompleted); return _event; } } } public void CompleteCall() { lock (_lock) { _completed = true; if (_event != null) _event.Set(); } if (_cb != null) _cb(this); } }

  • When using Data Annotations with MVC, Pro and Cons of using an interface vs. a MetadataType

    - by SkippyFire
    If you read this article on Validation with the Data Annotation Validators, it shows that you can use the MetadataType attribute to add validation attributes to properties on partial classes. You use this when working with ORMs like LINQ to SQL, Entity Framework, or Subsonic. Then you can use the "automagic" client and server side validation. It plays very nicely with MVC. However, a colleague of mine used an interface to accomplish exactly the same result. it looks almost exactly the same, and functionally accomplishes the same thing. So instead of doing this: [MetadataType(typeof(MovieMetaData))] public partial class Movie { } public class MovieMetaData { [Required] public object Title { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(5)] public object Director { get; set; } [DisplayName("Date Released")] [Required] public object DateReleased { get; set; } } He did this: public partial class Movie :IMovie { } public interface IMovie { [Required] object Title { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(5)] object Director { get; set; } [DisplayName("Date Released")] [Required] object DateReleased { get; set; } } So my question is, when does this difference actually matter? My thoughts are that interfaces tend to be more "reusable", and that making one for just a single class doesn't make that much sense. You could also argue that you could design your classes and interfaces in a way that allows you to use interfaces on multiple objects, but I feel like that is trying to fit your models into something else, when they should really stand on their own. What do you think?

  • LINQ to SQL - Tracking New / Dirty Objects

    - by Joseph Sturtevant
    Is there a way to determine if a LINQ object has not yet been inserted in the database (new) or has been changed since the last update (dirty)? I plan on binding my UI to LINQ objects (using WPF) and need it to behave differently depending whether or not the object is already in the database. MyDataContext context = new MyDataContext(); MyObject obj; if (new Random().NextDouble() > .5) obj = new MyObject(); else obj = context.MyObjects.First(); // How can I distinguish these two cases? The only simple solution I can think of is to set the primary key of new records to a negative value (my PKs are an identity field and will therefore be set to a positive integer on INSERT). This will only work for detecting new records. It also requires identity PKs, and requires control of the code creating the new object. Is there a better way to do this? It seems like LINQ must be internally tracking the status of these objects so that it can know what to do on context.SubmitChanges(). Is there some way to access that "object status"? Clarification Apparently my initial question was confusing. I'm not looking for a way to insert or update records. I'm looking for a way, given any LINQ object, to determine if that object has not been inserted (new) or has been changed since its last update (dirty).

  • Change made in the Converter will notify the change in the bound property?

    - by Kishore Kumar
    I have two property FirstName and LastName and bound to a textblock using Multibinidng and converter to display the FullName as FirstName + Last Name. FirstName="Kishore" LastName="Kumar" In the Converter I changed the LastName as "Changed Text" values[1] = "Changed Text"; After executing the Converter my TextBlock will show "Kishore Changed Text" but Dependency property LastName is still have the last value "Kumar". Why I am not getting the "Changed Text" value in the LastName property after the execution?. Will the change made at converter will notify the bound property? <Window.Resources> <local:NameConverter x:Key="NameConverter"></local:NameConverter> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <TextBlock> <TextBlock.Text> <MultiBinding Converter="{StaticResource NameConverter}"> <Binding Path="FirstName"></Binding> <Binding Path="LastName"></Binding> </MultiBinding> </TextBlock.Text> </TextBlock> </Grid> Converter: public class NameConverter:IMultiValueConverter { #region IMultiValueConverter Members public object Convert(object[] values, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { values[1] = "Changed Text"; return values[0].ToString() + " " + values[1].ToString(); } public object[] ConvertBack(object value, Type[] targetTypes, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } #endregion }

  • Python metaclass for enforcing immutability of custom types

    - by Mark Lehmacher
    Having searched for a way to enforce immutability of custom types and not having found a satisfactory answer I came up with my own shot at a solution in form of a metaclass: class ImmutableTypeException( Exception ): pass class Immutable( type ): ''' Enforce some aspects of the immutability contract for new-style classes: - attributes must not be created, modified or deleted after object construction - immutable types must implement __eq__ and __hash__ ''' def __new__( meta, classname, bases, classDict ): instance = type.__new__( meta, classname, bases, classDict ) # Make sure __eq__ and __hash__ have been implemented by the immutable type. # In the case of __hash__ also make sure the object default implementation has been overridden. # TODO: the check for eq and hash functions could probably be done more directly and thus more efficiently # (hasattr does not seem to traverse the type hierarchy) if not '__eq__' in dir( instance ): raise ImmutableTypeException( 'Immutable types must implement __eq__.' ) if not '__hash__' in dir( instance ): raise ImmutableTypeException( 'Immutable types must implement __hash__.' ) if _methodFromObjectType( instance.__hash__ ): raise ImmutableTypeException( 'Immutable types must override object.__hash__.' ) instance.__setattr__ = _setattr instance.__delattr__ = _delattr return instance def __call__( self, *args, **kwargs ): obj = type.__call__( self, *args, **kwargs ) obj.__immutable__ = True return obj def _setattr( self, attr, value ): if '__immutable__' in self.__dict__ and self.__immutable__: raise AttributeError( "'%s' must not be modified because '%s' is immutable" % ( attr, self ) ) object.__setattr__( self, attr, value ) def _delattr( self, attr ): raise AttributeError( "'%s' must not be deleted because '%s' is immutable" % ( attr, self ) ) def _methodFromObjectType( method ): ''' Return True if the given method has been defined by object, False otherwise. ''' try: # TODO: Are we exploiting an implementation detail here? Find better solution! return isinstance( method.__objclass__, object ) except: return False However, while the general approach seems to be working rather well there are still some iffy implementation details (also see TODO comments in code): How do I check if a particular method has been implemented anywhere in the type hierarchy? How do I check which type is the origin of a method declaration (i.e. as part of which type a method has been defined)?

  • Learning Objective-C: Need advice on populating NSMutableDictionary

    - by Zigrivers
    I am teaching myself Objective-C utilizing a number of resources, one of which is the Stanford iPhone Dev class available via iTunes U (past 2010 class). One of the home work assignments asked that I populate a mutable dictionary with a predefined list of keys and values (URLs). I was able to put the code together, but as I look at it, I keep thinking there is probably a much better way for me to approach what I'm trying to do: Populate a NSMutableDictionary with the predefined keys and values Enumerate through the keys of the dictionary and check each key to see if it starts with "Stanford" If it meets the criteria, log both the key and the value I would really appreciate any feedback on how I might improve on what I've put together. I'm the very definition of a beginner, but I'm really enjoying the challenge of learning Objective-C. void bookmarkDictionary () { NSMutableDictionary* bookmarks = [NSMutableDictionary dictionary]; NSString* one = @"Stanford University", *two = @"Apple", *three = @"CS193P", *four = @"Stanford on iTunes U", *five = @"Stanford Mall"; NSString* urlOne = @"http://www.stanford.edu", *urlTwo = @"http://www.apple.com", *urlThree = @"http://cs193p.stanford.edu", *urlFour = @"http://itunes.stanford.edu", *urlFive = @"http://stanfordshop.com"; NSURL* oneURL = [NSURL URLWithString:urlOne]; NSURL* twoURL = [NSURL URLWithString:urlTwo]; NSURL* threeURL = [NSURL URLWithString:urlThree]; NSURL* fourURL = [NSURL URLWithString:urlFour]; NSURL* fiveURL = [NSURL URLWithString:urlFive]; [bookmarks setObject:oneURL forKey:one]; [bookmarks setObject:twoURL forKey:two]; [bookmarks setObject:threeURL forKey:three]; [bookmarks setObject:fourURL forKey:four]; [bookmarks setObject:fiveURL forKey:five]; NSString* akey; NSString* testString = @"Stanford"; for (akey in bookmarks) { if ([akey hasPrefix:testString]) { NSLog(@"Key: %@ URL: %@", akey, [bookmarks objectForKey:akey]); } } } Thanks for your help!

  • drew's autoSuggest plugin help with AJAX results not showing

    - by s2xi
    hey guys, i use drew's autoSuggest plugin for some time but up until now I have hard coded my data into my JS, I'm trying to see if I can use AJAX to return the JSON data and query data like that. I seem to have it working but no matter what I try I can't get the results to be shown in the drop down UL it creates via jquery. The JSON comes back as it should. This is my PHP code: $input = $_GET["q"]; $data = array(); // query your DataBase here looking for a match to $input $query = mysql_query("SELECT `state`, `idStates` FROM `states_list` WHERE (`state` LIKE '%{$input}%' OR `abbr` LIKE '%{$input}%')"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($query)) { $json = array(); $json['value'] = $row['idStates']; $json['name'] = $row['state']; $data[] = $json; } header("Content-type: application/json"); echo json_encode($data); and my JS: $('#state').autoSuggest('resources/ajax/suggest.php', {matchCase: true, minChars: 2, startText: '', emptyText: '', retrieveComplete: function(data){ console.log(data.value) }}); I have been trying to debug so I added the retrieveComplete parameter in there for that. the PHP returns the AJAX with the JSON content...now just to figure out how to get the JS to pick it up append it to the UL LI UPDATE: I appened the data to a test div and its returning results:[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

  • wcf callback exception after updating to .net 4.0

    - by James
    I have a wcf service that uses callbacks with DualHttpBindings. The service pushes back a datatable of search results the client (for a long running search) as it finds them. This worked fine in .Net 3.5. Since I updated to .Net 4.0, it bombs out with a System.Runtime.FatalException that actually kills the IIS worker process. I have no idea how to even go about starting to fix this. Any recommendations appreciated. The info from the resulting event log is pasted below. • Help with editing data in entity framework.

    - by Levelbit
    Title of this question is simple because there is no an easy explanation for what I'm trying to ask you. I hope you'll understand in the end :). I have to tables in my database: Company and Location (relationship:one to many) and corresponding entity sets. In my wpf application I have some datagrid which I want to fill with locations and to be able to edit every row in separate window as some form of details view (so I don't want to edit my data in datagrid). I did this by accessing Location entity from selected row and creating a new Location entity and then I copy properties from original entity to newly created. Something like cloning the object. After editing if I press OK changed data is copied to original object back, and if I press Cancel nothing happens. Of course, you probably thinking I could use NoTracking option and AttachAsModified method as was mentioned as solution in some earlier questions(see:http://stackoverflow.com/questions/803022/changing-entities-in-the-entityframework) by Alex James, but lets say I had some problems about that and I have my own reasons for doing this. Finally, because navigation property(Company) of my location entity is assigned to newly created location object(during cloning) from some reason in object context additional object as copy of object I want to edit from datagrid is created without my will(similar problem :http://blogs.msdn.com/alexj/archive/2009/12/02/tip-47-how-fix-up-can-make-it-hard-to-change-relationships.aspx). So, when I do ObjectContext.SaveChanges it inserts additional row of data into my database table Location, the same as the one i wanted to edit. I read about sth like this, but I don't quite understand why is that and how to block or override this. I hope I was clear as I could. Please, solutions or some other ideas.

  • Assigning a property across threads

    - by Mike
    I have set a property across threads before and I found this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/142003/cross-thread-operation-not-valid-control-accessed-from-a-thread-other-than-the-t about getting a property. I think my issue with the code below is setting the variable to the collection is an object therefore on the heap and therefore is just creating a pointer to the same object So my question is besides creating a deep copy, or copying the collection into a different List object is there a better way to do the following to aviod the error during the for loop. Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'lstProcessFiles' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on. Code: private void btnRunProcess_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { richTextBox1.Clear(); BackgroundWorker bg = new BackgroundWorker(); bg.DoWork += new DoWorkEventHandler(bg_DoWork); bg.RunWorkerCompleted += new RunWorkerCompletedEventHandler(bg_RunWorkerCompleted); bg.RunWorkerAsync(lstProcessFiles.SelectedItems); } void bg_DoWork(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e) { WorkflowEngine engine = new WorkflowEngine(); ListBox.SelectedObjectCollection selectedCollection=null; if (lstProcessFiles.InvokeRequired) { // Try #1 selectedCollection = (ListBox.SelectedObjectCollection) this.Invoke(new GetSelectedItemsDelegate(GetSelectedItems), new object[] { lstProcessFiles }); // Try #2 //lstProcessFiles.Invoke( // new MethodInvoker(delegate { // selectedCollection = lstProcessFiles.SelectedItems; })); } else { selectedCollection = lstProcessFiles.SelectedItems; } // *********Same Error on this line******************** // Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'lstProcessFiles' accessed // from a thread other than the thread it was created on. foreach (string l in selectedCollection) { if (engine.LoadProcessDocument(String.Format(@"C:\TestDirectory\{0}", l))) { try { engine.Run(); WriteStep(String.Format("Ran {0} Succussfully", l)); } catch { WriteStep(String.Format("{0} Failed", l)); } engine.PrintProcess(); WriteStep(String.Format("Rrinted {0} to debug", l)); } } } private delegate void WriteDelegate(string p); private delegate ListBox.SelectedObjectCollection GetSelectedItemsDelegate(ListBox list); private ListBox.SelectedObjectCollection GetSelectedItems(ListBox list) { return list.SelectedItems; }

  • Inserting instructions into method.

    - by Alix
    Hi, (First of all, this is a very lengthy post, but don't worry: I've already implemented all of it, I'm just asking your opinion.) I'm having trouble implementing the following; I'd appreciate some help: I get a Type as parameter. I define a subclass using reflection. Notice that I don't intend to modify the original type, but create a new one. I create a property per field of the original class, like so: [- ignore this text here; I had to add something or the formatting wouldn't work <-] public class OriginalClass { private int x; } public class Subclass : OriginalClass { private int x; public int X { get { return x; } set { x = value; } } } [This is number 4! Numbered lists don't work if you add code in between; sorry] For every method of the superclass, I create an analogous method in the subclass. The method's body must be the same except that I replace the instructions ldfld x with callvirt this.get_X, that is, instead of reading from the field directly I call the get accessor. I'm having trouble with step 4. I know you're not supposed to manipulate code like this, but I really need to. Here's what I've tried: Attempt #1: Use Mono.Cecil. This would allow me to parse the body of the method into human-readable Instructions, and easily replace instructions. However, the original type isn't in a .dll file, so I can't find a way to load it with Mono.Cecil. Writing the type to a .dll, then load it, then modify it and write the new type to disk (which I think is the way you create a type with Mono.Cecil), and then load it seems like a huge overhead. Attempt #2: Use Mono.Reflection. This would also allow me to parse the body into Instructions, but then I have no support for replacing instructions. I've implemented a very ugly and inefficient solution using Mono.Reflection, but it doesn't yet support methods that contain try-catch statements (although I guess I can implement this) and I'm concerned that there may be other scenarios in which it won't work, since I'm using the ILGenerator in a somewhat unusual way. Also, it's very ugly ;). Here's what I've done: private void TransformMethod(MethodInfo methodInfo) { // Create a method with the same signature. ParameterInfo[] paramList = methodInfo.GetParameters(); Type[] args = new Type[paramList.Length]; for (int i = 0; i < args.Length; i++) { args[i] = paramList[i].ParameterType; } MethodBuilder methodBuilder = typeBuilder.DefineMethod( methodInfo.Name, methodInfo.Attributes, methodInfo.ReturnType, args); ILGenerator ilGen = methodBuilder.GetILGenerator(); // Declare the same local variables as in the original method. IList<LocalVariableInfo> locals = methodInfo.GetMethodBody().LocalVariables; foreach (LocalVariableInfo local in locals) { ilGen.DeclareLocal(local.LocalType); } // Get readable instructions. IList<Instruction> instructions = methodInfo.GetInstructions(); // I first need to define labels for every instruction in case I // later find a jump to that instruction. Once the instruction has // been emitted I cannot label it, so I'll need to do it in advance. // Since I'm doing a first pass on the method's body anyway, I could // instead just create labels where they are truly needed, but for // now I'm using this quick fix. Dictionary<int, Label> labels = new Dictionary<int, Label>(); foreach (Instruction instr in instructions) { labels[instr.Offset] = ilGen.DefineLabel(); } foreach (Instruction instr in instructions) { // Mark this instruction with a label, in case there's a branch // instruction that jumps here. ilGen.MarkLabel(labels[instr.Offset]); // If this is the instruction that I want to replace (ldfld x)... if (instr.OpCode == OpCodes.Ldfld) { // ...get the get accessor for the accessed field (get_X()) // (I have the accessors in a dictionary; this isn't relevant), MethodInfo safeReadAccessor = dataMembersSafeAccessors[((FieldInfo) instr.Operand).Name][0]; // ...instead of emitting the original instruction (ldfld x), // emit a call to the get accessor, ilGen.Emit(OpCodes.Callvirt, safeReadAccessor); // Else (it's any other instruction), reemit the instruction, unaltered. } else { Reemit(instr, ilGen, labels); } } } And here comes the horrible, horrible Reemit method: private void Reemit(Instruction instr, ILGenerator ilGen, Dictionary<int, Label> labels) { // If the instruction doesn't have an operand, emit the opcode and return. if (instr.Operand == null) { ilGen.Emit(instr.OpCode); return; } // Else (it has an operand)... // If it's a branch instruction, retrieve the corresponding label (to // which we want to jump), emit the instruction and return. if (instr.OpCode.FlowControl == FlowControl.Branch) { ilGen.Emit(instr.OpCode, labels[Int32.Parse(instr.Operand.ToString())]); return; } // Otherwise, simply emit the instruction. I need to use the right // Emit call, so I need to cast the operand to its type. Type operandType = instr.Operand.GetType(); if (typeof(byte).IsAssignableFrom(operandType)) ilGen.Emit(instr.OpCode, (byte) instr.Operand); else if (typeof(double).IsAssignableFrom(operandType)) ilGen.Emit(instr.OpCode, (double) instr.Operand); else if (typeof(float).IsAssignableFrom(operandType)) ilGen.Emit(instr.OpCode, (float) instr.Operand); else if (typeof(int).IsAssignableFrom(operandType)) ilGen.Emit(instr.OpCode, (int) instr.Operand); ... // you get the idea. This is a pretty long method, all like this. } Branch instructions are a special case because instr.Operand is SByte, but Emit expects an operand of type Label. Hence the need for the Dictionary labels. As you can see, this is pretty horrible. What's more, it doesn't work in all cases, for instance with methods that contain try-catch statements, since I haven't emitted them using methods BeginExceptionBlock, BeginCatchBlock, etc, of ILGenerator. This is getting complicated. I guess I can do it: MethodBody has a list of ExceptionHandlingClause that should contain the necessary information to do this. But I don't like this solution anyway, so I'll save this as a last-resort solution. Attempt #3: Go bare-back and just copy the byte array returned by MethodBody.GetILAsByteArray(), since I only want to replace a single instruction for another single instruction of the same size that produces the exact same result: it loads the same type of object on the stack, etc. So there won't be any labels shifting and everything should work exactly the same. I've done this, replacing specific bytes of the array and then calling MethodBuilder.CreateMethodBody(byte[], int), but I still get the same error with exceptions, and I still need to declare the local variables or I'll get an error... even when I simply copy the method's body and don't change anything. So this is more efficient but I still have to take care of the exceptions, etc. Sigh. Here's the implementation of attempt #3, in case anyone is interested: private void TransformMethod(MethodInfo methodInfo, Dictionary<string, MethodInfo[]> dataMembersSafeAccessors, ModuleBuilder moduleBuilder) { ParameterInfo[] paramList = methodInfo.GetParameters(); Type[] args = new Type[paramList.Length]; for (int i = 0; i < args.Length; i++) { args[i] = paramList[i].ParameterType; } MethodBuilder methodBuilder = typeBuilder.DefineMethod( methodInfo.Name, methodInfo.Attributes, methodInfo.ReturnType, args); ILGenerator ilGen = methodBuilder.GetILGenerator(); IList<LocalVariableInfo> locals = methodInfo.GetMethodBody().LocalVariables; foreach (LocalVariableInfo local in locals) { ilGen.DeclareLocal(local.LocalType); } byte[] rawInstructions = methodInfo.GetMethodBody().GetILAsByteArray(); IList<Instruction> instructions = methodInfo.GetInstructions(); int k = 0; foreach (Instruction instr in instructions) { if (instr.OpCode == OpCodes.Ldfld) { MethodInfo safeReadAccessor = dataMembersSafeAccessors[((FieldInfo) instr.Operand).Name][0]; byte[] bytes = toByteArray(OpCodes.Callvirt.Value); for (int m = 0; m < OpCodes.Callvirt.Size; m++) { rawInstructions[k++] = bytes[put.Length - 1 - m]; } bytes = toByteArray(moduleBuilder.GetMethodToken(safeReadAccessor).Token); for (int m = instr.Size - OpCodes.Ldfld.Size - 1; m >= 0; m--) { rawInstructions[k++] = bytes[m]; } } else { k += instr.Size; } } methodBuilder.CreateMethodBody(rawInstructions, rawInstructions.Length); } private static byte[] toByteArray(int intValue) { byte[] intBytes = BitConverter.GetBytes(intValue); if (BitConverter.IsLittleEndian) Array.Reverse(intBytes); return intBytes; } private static byte[] toByteArray(short shortValue) { byte[] intBytes = BitConverter.GetBytes(shortValue); if (BitConverter.IsLittleEndian) Array.Reverse(intBytes); return intBytes; } (I know it isn't pretty. Sorry. I put it quickly together to see if it would work.) I don't have much hope, but can anyone suggest anything better than this? Sorry about the extremely lengthy post, and thanks.

  • Seperation of game- and rendering logic

    - by Qua
    What is the best way to seperate rendering code from the actually game engine/logic code? And is it even a good idea to seperate those? Let's assume we have a game object called Knight. The Knight has to be rendered on the screen for the user to see. We're now left with two choices. Either we give the Knight a Render/Draw method that we can call, or we create a renderer class that takes care of rendering all knights. In the scenario where the two is seperated the Knight should the knight still contain all the information needed to render him, or should this be seperated as well? In the last project we created we decided to let all the information required to render an object be stored inside the object itself, but we had a seperate component to actually read those informations and render the objects. The object would contain information such as size, rotation, scale, and which animation was currently playing and based on this the renderer object would compose the screen. Frameworks such as XNA seem to think joining the object and rendering is a good idea, but we're afraid to get tied up to a specific rendering framework, whereas building a seperate rendering component gives us more freedom to change framework at any given time.

  • Show WPF tooltip on disabled item only

    - by DT
    Just wondering if it is possible to show a WPF on a disabled item ONLY (and not when the item is enabled). I would like to give the user a tooltip explaining why an item is currently disabled. I have an IValueConverter to invert the boolean IsEnabled property binding. But it doesn't seem to work in this situation. The tooltip is show both when the item is enabled and disabled. So is is possible to bind a tooltip.IsEnabled property exclusively to an item's own !IsEnabled? Pretty straightforward question I guess, but code example here anyway: public class BoolToOppositeBoolConverter : IValueConverter { #region IValueConverter Members public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if (targetType != typeof(bool)) throw new InvalidOperationException("The target must be a boolean"); return !(bool)value; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if (targetType != typeof(bool)) throw new InvalidOperationException("The target must be a boolean"); return !(bool)value; } #endregion } And the binding: <TabItem Header="Tab 2" Name="tabItem2" ToolTip="Not enabled in this situation." ToolTipService.ShowOnDisabled="True" ToolTipService.IsEnabled="{Binding Path=IsEnabled, ElementName=tabItem2, Converter={StaticResource oppositeConverter}}"> <Label Content="Item content goes here" /> </TabItem> Thanks folks.

  • Niewbie OutOfMemory problem

    - by Nick
    So I am trying to create a producer/consumer type scala app. The LoopControl just sends a message to the MessageReceiver continoually. The MessageReceiver then delegates work to the MessageCreatorActor (whose work is to check a map for an object, and if not found create one and start it up). Each MessageActor created by this MessageCreatorActor is associated with an Id. Eventually this is where I want to do business logic. But I run out of memory after 15 minutes. Any help is appreciated import scala.actors.Actor import java.util.HashMap; import scala.actors.Actor._ case object LoopControl case object MessageReceiver case object MessageActor case object MessageActorCreator class MessageReceiver(msg: String) extends Actor { var messageActorMap = new HashMap[String, MessageActor] val messageCreatorActor = new MessageActorCreator(null, null) def act() { messageCreatorActor.start loop { react { case MessageActor(messageId) = if (msg.length() 0) { var messageActor = messageActorMap.get(messageId); if(messageActor == null) { messageCreatorActor ! MessageActorCreator(messageId, messageActorMap) }else { messageActor ! MessageActor } } } } } } case class MessageActorCreator(msg:String, messageActorMap: HashMap[String, MessageActor]) extends Actor { def act() { loop { react { case MessageActorCreator(messageId, messageActorMap) = if(messageId != null ) { var messageActor = new MessageActor(messageId); messageActorMap.put(messageId, messageActor) println(messageActorMap) messageActor.start messageActor ! MessageActor } } } } } class LoopControl(messageReceiver:MessageReceiver) extends Actor { var count : Int = 0; def act() { while (true) { messageReceiver ! • TDD test data loading methods

    - by Dave Hanson
    I am a TDD newb and I would like to figure out how to test the following code. I am trying to write my tests first, but I am having trouble for creating a test that touches my DataAccessor. I can't figure out how to fake it. I've done the extend the shipment class and override the Load() method; to continue testing the object. I feel as though I end up unit testing my Mock objects/stubs and not my real objects. I thought in TDD the unit tests were supposed to hit ALL of the methods on the object; however I can never seem to test that Load() code only the overriden Mock Load My tests were write an object that contains a list of orders based off of shipment number. I have an object that loads itself from the database. public class Shipment { //member variables protected List<string> _listOfOrders = new List<string>(); protected string _id = "" //public properties public List<string> ListOrders { get{ return _listOfOrders; } } public Shipment(string id) { _id = id; Load(); } //PROBLEM METHOD // whenever I write code that needs this Shipment object, this method tries // to hit the DB and fubars my tests // the only way to get around is to have all my tests run on a fake Shipment object. protected void Load() { _listOfOrders = DataAccessor.GetOrders(_id); } } I create my fake shipment class to test the rest of the classes methods .I can't ever test the Real load method without having an actual DB connection public class FakeShipment : Shipment { protected new void Load() { _listOfOrders = new List<string>(); } } Any thoughts? Please advise. Dave

  • Invalid Cast Exception in ASP.NET but not in WinForms

    I have a problem in this code: public static T[] GetExtras <T>(Type[] Types) { List<T> Res = new List<T>(); foreach (object Current in GetExtras(typeof(T), Types)) { Res.Add((T)Current);//this is the error } return Res.ToArray(); } public static object[] GetExtras(Type ExtraType, Type[] Types) { lock (ExtraType) { if (!ExtraType.IsInterface) return new object[] { }; List<object> Res = new List<object>(); bool found = false; found = (ExtraType == typeof(IExtra)); foreach (Type CurInterFace in ExtraType.GetInterfaces()) { if (found = (CurInterFace == typeof(IExtra))) break; } if (!found) return new object[] { }; foreach (Type CurType in Types) { found = false; if (!CurType.IsClass) continue; foreach (Type CurInterface in CurType.GetInterfaces()) { try { if (found = (CurInterface.FullName == ExtraType.FullName)) break; } catch { } } try { if (found) Res.Add(Activator.CreateInstance(CurType)); } catch { } } return Res.ToArray(); } } When I'm using this code in windows application it works! But I cant use it on ASP page. Why?

  • create TableModel and populate jTable dynamically

    - by Julia
    Hi all! I want to store the results of reading lucene index into jTable, so that I can make it sortable by different columns. From index I am reading terms with different measures of their frequencies. Table columns are these : [string term][int absFrequency][int docFrequency][double invFrequency] So i in AbstractTableModel I can define column names, but i dont know how to get the Object[][]data with results from the following method: public static void FrequencyMap(Directory indexDir) throws Exception { List<Object>redoviLista = new ArrayList<Object>(); //final Map<String,TermRow> map = new TreeMap<String,TermRow>(); List<String>termList = new ArrayList<String>(); IndexReader iReader = IndexReader.open(indexDir); FilterIndexReader fReader = new FilterIndexReader(iReader); int numOfDocs = fReader.numDocs(); TermEnum terms = fReader.terms(); while (terms.next()){ Term term = terms.term(); String termText = term.text(); termList.add(termText); //Calculating the frequencies int df = iReader.docFreq(term); double idf = 0.0F; idf = Math.log10((double) numOfDocs / df); double tfidf = (df*idf); //Here comes important part Object oneTableRow[] = {termText, df, idf, tfidf}; redoviLista.add(jedanRed); // So i thaught to store them into list, and then later to copy into table, but didnt manage } iReader.close(); // So I need something like this, and i Neeed this array to be stored out of this method Object[][]data = new Object[redoviLista.size()][]; for (int i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { data[i][0] = redoviLista.get(i); } So I am kindda stuck here to proceed to implement AbstractTableModel and populate and display this table .... :/ Please help!

  • Converting python collaborative filtering code to use Map Reduce

    - by Neil Kodner
    Using Python, I'm computing cosine similarity across items. given event data that represents a purchase (user,item), I have a list of all items 'bought' by my users. Given this input data (user,item) X,1 X,2 Y,1 Y,2 Z,2 Z,3 I build a python dictionary {1: ['X','Y'], 2 : ['X','Y','Z'], 3 : ['Z']} From that dictionary, I generate a bought/not bought matrix, also another dictionary(bnb). {1 : [1,1,0], 2 : [1,1,1], 3 : [0,0,1]} From there, I'm computing similarity between (1,2) by calculating cosine between (1,1,0) and (1,1,1), yielding 0.816496 I'm doing this by: items=[1,2,3] for item in items: for sub in items: if sub >= item: #as to not calculate similarity on the inverse sim = coSim( bnb[item], bnb[sub] ) I think the brute force approach is killing me and it only runs slower as the data gets larger. Using my trusty laptop, this calculation runs for hours when dealing with 8500 users and 3500 items. I'm trying to compute similarity for all items in my dict and it's taking longer than I'd like it to. I think this is a good candidate for MapReduce but I'm having trouble 'thinking' in terms of key/value pairs. Alternatively, is the issue with my approach and not necessarily a candidate for Map Reduce?

  • What are the specific names for these OLE controls?

    - by Kris
    I have been working on making a block of code that would enable me to input values into a worksheet, as well as an MSgraph object. I have succeeded in this, but this has just presented me with a new set of problems: What are the control names for changing the visible size as well as the focus of a worksheet? What are the control names for changing/making background colours and borders? How do I create and define new worksheets and MSGraph objects inside the document? My example code so far: Option Explicit Dim objWord 'Word application object Dim objIShape 'Inline shapes object Dim objOLE 'OLE object Set objWord=CreateObject("Word.Application") objWord.Application.Documents.Open("C:\birdy.doc") objWord.Visible=True Set objIShape = objWord.ActiveDocument.InlineShapes Function count_filled_spaces(intOLENo, strRange) 'Activates the the inline shape by number(intOLENo) and defines it as the OLE object objIShape(intOLENo).OLEFormat.Activate Set objOLE = objIShape(intOLENo).OLEFormat.Object 'Detects the ClassType of the inline shape and uses a class specific counter to count which datafields have data Dim strClass, i, p, intSheetno intSheetno = 1 strClass = objIShape(intOLENo).OLEFormat.ClassType i = 0 If Left(strClass, 8) = "MSGraph." then For Each p In objOLE.Application.DataSheet.Range(strRange) If p <> "" Then i = i+1 End If Next ElseIf Left(strClass, 6) = "Excel." then For Each p In objOLE.Worksheets(intSheetno).Range(strRange) If p <> "" Then i = i+1 End If Next objOLE.Worksheets(intSheetno).Range("B" & i+1) = objOLE.Worksheets(intSheetno).Range("B" & i) End if count_filled_spaces = i End Function Dim strRange strRange = InputBox("Lol", "do eeet", "B1:B10") wscript.echo count_filled_spaces(2, strRange) 'objWord.Application.Documents.Save 'objWord.Application.Documents.Close 'objWord.Application.Quit WScript.Quit(0)

  • Using perl to split a line that may contain whitespace

    - by Tommy Fisk
    Okay, so I'm using perl to read in a file that contains some general configuration data. This data is organized into headers based on what they mean. An example follows: [vars] # This is how we define a variable! $var = 10; $str = "Hello thar!"; # This section contains flags which can be used to modify module behavior # All modules read this file and if they understand any of the flags, use them [flags] Verbose = true; # Notice the errant whitespace! [path] WinPath = default; # Keyword which loads the standard PATH as defined by the operating system. Append with additonal values. LinuxPath = default; Goal: Using the first line as an example "$var = 10;", I'd like to use the split function in perl to create an array that contains the characters "$var" and "10" as elements. Using another line as an example: Verbose = true; # Should become [Verbose, true] aka no whitespace is present This is needed because I will be outputting these values to a new file (which a different piece of C++ code will read) to instantiate dictionary objects. Just to give you a little taste of what it might look like (just making it up as I go along): define new dictionary name: [flags] # Start defining keys => values new key name: Verbose new value val: 10 # End dictionary Oh, and here is the code I currently have along with what it is doing (incorrectly): sub makeref($) { my @line = (split (/=/)); # Produces ["Verbose", " true"]; }

  • Asp.net Crawler Webresponse Operation Timed out.

    - by Leon
    Hi I have built a simple threadpool based web crawler within my web application. Its job is to crawl its own application space and build a Lucene index of every valid web page and their meta content. Here's the problem. When I run the crawler from a debug server instance of Visual Studio Express, and provide the starting instance as the IIS url, it works fine. However, when I do not provide the IIS instance and it takes its own url to start the crawl process(ie. crawling its own domain space), I get hit by operation timed out exception on the Webresponse statement. Could someone please guide me into what I should or should not be doing here? Here is my code for fetching the page. It is executed in the multithreaded environment. private static string GetWebText(string url) { string htmlText = ""; HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(url); request.UserAgent = "My Crawler"; using (WebResponse response = request.GetResponse()) { using (Stream stream = response.GetResponseStream()) { using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(stream)) { htmlText = reader.ReadToEnd(); } } } return htmlText; } And the following is my stacktrace: at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at CSharpCrawler.Crawler.GetWebText(String url) in c:\myAppDev\myApp\site\App_Code\CrawlerLibs\Crawler.cs:line 366 at CSharpCrawler.Crawler.CrawlPage(String url, List1 threadCityList) in c:\myAppDev\myApp\site\App_Code\CrawlerLibs\Crawler.cs:line 105 at CSharpCrawler.Crawler.CrawlSiteBuildIndex(String hostUrl, String urlToBeginSearchFrom, List1 threadCityList) in c:\myAppDev\myApp\site\App_Code\CrawlerLibs\Crawler.cs:line 89 at crawler_Default.threadedCrawlSiteBuildIndex(Object threadedCrawlerObj) in c:\myAppDev\myApp\site\crawler\Default.aspx.cs:line 108 at System.Threading.QueueUserWorkItemCallback.WaitCallback_Context(Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.runTryCode(Object userData) at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.RuntimeHelpers.ExecuteCodeWithGuaranteedCleanup(TryCode code, CleanupCode backoutCode, Object userData) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state, Boolean ignoreSyncCtx) at System.Threading.QueueUserWorkItemCallback.System.Threading.IThreadPoolWorkItem.ExecuteWorkItem() at System.Threading.ThreadPoolWorkQueue.Dispatch() at System.Threading._ThreadPoolWaitCallback.PerformWaitCallback() Thanks and cheers, Leon.

  • Fast JSON serialization (and comparison with Pickle) for cluster computing in Python?

    - by user248237
    I have a set of data points, each described by a dictionary. The processing of each data point is independent and I submit each one as a separate job to a cluster. Each data point has a unique name, and my cluster submission wrapper simply calls a script that takes a data point's name and a file describing all the data points. That script then accesses the data point from the file and performs the computation. Since each job has to load the set of all points only to retrieve the point to be run, I wanted to optimize this step by serializing the file describing the set of points into an easily retrievable format. I tried using JSONpickle, using the following method, to serialize a dictionary describing all the data points to file: def json_serialize(obj, filename, use_jsonpickle=True): f = open(filename, 'w') if use_jsonpickle: import jsonpickle json_obj = jsonpickle.encode(obj) f.write(json_obj) else: simplejson.dump(obj, f, indent=1) f.close() The dictionary contains very simple objects (lists, strings, floats, etc.) and has a total of 54,000 keys. The json file is ~20 Megabytes in size. It takes ~20 seconds to load this file into memory, which seems very slow to me. I switched to using pickle with the same exact object, and found that it generates a file that's about 7.8 megabytes in size, and can be loaded in ~1-2 seconds. This is a significant improvement, but it still seems like loading of a small object (less than 100,000 entries) should be faster. Aside from that, pickle is not human readable, which was the big advantage of JSON for me. Is there a way to use JSON to get similar or better speed ups? If not, do you have other ideas on structuring this? (Is the right solution to simply "slice" the file describing each event into a separate file and pass that on to the script that runs a data point in a cluster job? It seems like that could lead to a proliferation of files). thanks.

  • struts2 trim all string obtained from forms

    - by aelkin
    Hi All, I develop web application using struts2. I want to improve getting string from forms. For this need trim all string and if obtained string is empty then set null to field. For this, I created StringConverter. public class StringConverter extends StrutsTypeConverter { @Override public Object convertFromString(Map context, String[] strings, Class toClass) { if (strings == null || strings.length == 0) { return null; } String result = strings[0]; if (result == null) { return null; } result = result.trim(); if (result.isEmpty()) { return null; } return result; } @Override public String convertToString(Map context, Object object) { if (object != null && object instanceof String) { return object.toString(); } return null; } } Next, I added row to xwork-conversion.properties java.lang.String=com.mypackage.StringConverter Thats all. But I did not get the desired result. convertToString() method is called when jsp build form, but convertFromString() doesn't invoke. What I do wrong? How can I get the same behaviour using another way? Please, not offer solutions such as: remove the value of such form elements using javascript. create util method which will make it using reflection. Then call it for each form bean. Thanks in advance, Alexey.
