    I am a asp.net mvc programmer and if I want to start a project I do this: I make a class library named Model for my models. I make a class library named Infrastructure.Repository for database processes I make a class library named Application for business logic layer And finally I make a MVC project for the UI. But now some things are confusing me. Am I using 3-tier programming? If yes so what is n-tier programming and which one is better? If no so what is 3-tier programming? Some where I see that the tiers namings are DAL and BIZ. Which one is correct according to the naming convention?

    As an extension to this question here Linking JavaScript Libraries in User Controls I was after some examples of how people are concatinating & minifying javascript on the fly OR at build time. I would also like to see how it then works into your master pages. I don't mind page specific files being minified and linked inidividually as they currently are (see below) but all the js files on the main master page (I have about 5 or 6) I would like concatenated and minified.   • ASP.NET MVC 2 JQuery POST not displaying the model state errors

    Hello, I have been using asp.net mvc for a bit (but I'm still a beginer). I want to have the ability to update two views as a result of a jquery postback. Basically I have a list and a details view. The details view is presented using a jquery popup (using jquery-UI popup). I only want to update the list if the details save is successful (i.e. there are no validation errors on the details view). However, if there are any validation errros in the details view, I want to update the details view so that the user sees the validation errors. so I thought in my controller, I return a JsonResult instead of a View. [HttpPost] public ActionResult SavePersonInfo(Person p) { if(ModelState.Valid) { return View("PersonList"); } return Json({Error = true, View = PartialView("PersonDetails", p)}); } As you can see if there are no errors I return the person list view, but if there are any validation errors, I have return the details view. The reason that I'm returning a JsonResult is I need to tell my view there is an error so that the view (jquery) knows which section to update (as in whether to update the person list 'div' or the popup dialog 'div'). I do have valication summary and Html.ValidationFor(m = ...) statements put in my details view. Could someone tell me why I'm not seeing the validation errors? although I'm using a JSonResult, I do use the right property which is a valid view when I render the 'dvDetails'. Am I doing something that I'm not suppose to in asp.net mvc? Btw I'm using asp.net mvc2 RC with Visual Studio 2010 RC. Thank you.

  • PopulateOnDemand does not work on data bound ASP.Net TreeView

    Hi, I have a TreeView that is bound to a XmlDataSource control. I've added some TreeNodeBinding elements to define how I want the XML data to be shown. I have also added PopulateOnDemand=true to these TreeNodeBindings. However, doing so didn't change a thing and the entire XML tree is displayed. Moreover, the TreeNodePopulate event is not fired on node expand as well. Important information: I'm using ASP.NET 4. Via code, go through all tree nodes and set their PopulateOnDemand property to true. Nothing worked. The only way the populate-on-demand thing worked was when I added nodes manually to the nodes instead of binding it to a data source. What am I doing wrong?

    I have website on Drupal version: 7.26 OS on server is Windows Server 2008 R2 Web server $_SERVER["SERVER_SOFTWARE"]: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 Server API: CGI/FastCGI Core PHP Version: 5.3.28 file_uploads: On post_max_size: 75M upload_max_filesize: 50M upload_tmp_dir: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\tmp memory_limit: 128M open_basedir: C:\inetpub\wwwroot;C:\inetpub\wwwroot\tmp When I go to /admin/config/media/file-system I see error messages: The directory sites\default\files exists but is not writable and could not be made writable. The directory tmp exists but is not writable and could not be made writable. Public file system path: sites\default\files Temporary directory: tmp I have set permissions on folders C:\inetpub\wwwroot\tmp : IIS_IUSRS : Full control C:\inetpub\wwwroot\sites\default\files : IIS_IUSRS : Full control I am working as Administrator user: C:\Users\Administrator\Downloadsecho %username% Administrator I can`t change Read Only Attributes for these folders. Every time I do this change and press Apply button and Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files is checked and press OK button it displays Applying attributes... dialog when it finishing I press OK button on folder properties dialog closing it. When I open Properties dialog once again I see Read-only is checked again. How can I fix it?

  • IIS FTP error: 426 Connection closed; transfer aborted.

    Hi, I have an IIS FTP set up on Windows 2003 SP2 (S1). Everyday in the early morning, a script on another server (S2) will run and initiate FTP transfer of pulling log files from S1 to S2. The FTP client we're using is built-in FTP.exe in Windows 2000 on S2. Recently we replaced S1 with a new server however we kept the IP address. There are multiple IP addresses on new S1. Ever since the new S1 was in place, the '426 Connection closed; transfer aborted.' errors haven been occuring randomly. The log indicated that the transfer started ok however the file cannot be transferred completely, as per log below: mget access*.log 200 Type set to A. 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for access02232010.log(205777167 bytes). 426 Connection closed; transfer aborted. ftp: 20454832 bytes received in 283.95Seconds 72.04Kbytes/sec. The firewall monitor suggested that the connection was setup in passive mode however I've been told that MS FTP.exe doesn't support passive mode. Though I can see the response of 'entering passive mode' from server when typing in 'quote pasv'. My network admin has told me to try the transfer in active mode however I don't know how to open active mode on client side. It's getting really frustrating. Wish someone here has the right knowledge/experience could shed me a light. Cheers.

The one that had problems, of course, was the one which hosts the majority of our sites. What the update appeared to do was cause the NETWORK user to stop having access to the .NET Framework 2.0 files, as the event log was complaining about not being able to open System.Web. This resulted in every .NET site on the server returning "Server Unavailable" as the App Domains failed to be initialise. I ran aspnet_regiis which didn't appear to fix the problem, so I ran FileMon which revealed that nobody but the Administrators group had access to any files in any of the website folders! After resetting the permissions, things appear to be fine. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what could have caused this to go wrong? As I say, the four other servers updated without a problem. Are there any known issues involved with any of the following updates? My major suspect at the moment is the 3.5 update as all of the sites on the server are running in 3.5.   • Load balanced IIS. Should I use NLB, or linux-based reverse proxy, or something else?

    What would be the best approach for load-balancing at least 2-3 Windows 2008 R2 IIS webservers running a multitude of .NET applications? My choices appear to be: 1) Hardware-based network device load balancer, like a Cisco CSS 2) Windows NLB 3) Some sort of linux based proxy, either haproxy or other The three servers sit as VMs on a vSphere farm, so I have the ability to clone to up the instance count in times of high load. I control the switch that the vSphere hosts are plugged into (Cisco 3750), but don't control the switching/routing infrastructure beyond that to the clients. (1) Is too expensive, and probably overkill for my needs. I've included this in case someone figures out a cunning way to do it on my existing network kit, which I doubt. (2) would seem to be the obvious "built-in" option, but seems to be quite fiddly messing around with network interfaces, multicast, and generally other things that seem to be needlessly complex. It's also fairly stupid, in that it can't remove hosts from the pool if they start throwing 500 errors or otherwise go wrong (3) is the most interesting option, as it would appear to offer the most flexibility and customizability, but without having to mess around with the network. However, while I'm familiar with the reverse-proxy capabilities of lighttpd etc, I'm not that well read on other options like HAProxy, which might be able to offer a lot more. Which would you go for, and is there anything I've not thought of?

    Having installed Team Foundation Server 2010 on Windows Server 2008, I need an easy URL for our developers to access their repositories. The default URL for the TFS repositories is http://localhost:8080/tfs Now I want the subdomain domain tfs.server.domain.com to point at http://localhost:8080/tfs. And when you write access tfs.server.domain.com/repos_name it should redirect to http://localhost:8080/tfs/repos_name. How can I do this in IIS 7? I already tried using the following rule, but it does not work.   • How do I identify Blackberry / OWA users in my IIS logs?

    We just rolled out a Blackberry Express Server, and would like to make sure that all Blackberry devices that our users own are connecting SOLELY through the BES server. We are running Exchange 2010 SP1. I've read some links that discuss blocking BIS at the firewall level. Before doing that, however, I'd like to individually contact all users with Blackberries and make sure that they have a chance to switch to the BES server. I've sent a company-wide email, but unsurprisingly folks tend to tune these out until they are forced into action. Is there an easy way to identify the users with Blackberries by searching IIS logs, or perhaps using the Exchange Management Shell? Especially some automated way? I've tried searching for the Blackberry identifier, but it does not appear next to any user name, so it's not as helpful as it could be. Edit: to clarify, what I'm talking about is the fact that Blackberries can use OWA to download mail to the phone. We do not allow IMAP or POP access through our firewall so that's not a concern--just folks with Blackberries using Blackberry's hack to allow it to connect to Exchange without a BES server. As far as I know, Blackberries are the only popular phones that use this method to download mail.

In Apache, it looks like this: <IfModule mod_alias.c> Alias /phpmyadmin "c:/AppServ/www/phpMyAdmin" </IfModule> This way I reach phpmyadmin with prepending /phpmyadmin to all my domain names, and I can see phpmyadmin's initial page. (So for example it works for all my domains like this: http://example_1.com/phpmyadmin, http://example_2.com/phpmyadmin, http://example_3.com/phpmyadmin also does work). In IIS, there's an "Add Virtual Directory..." option when right clicking on a given site. Here I can set up e.g. phpMyAdmin's path to be reached with prepending /phpmyadmin to the given domain (e.g. http://example_1.com/phpmyadmin), but isn't there a "global" setting similar to Apache's Alias? Or do I have to add a virtual directory to every given sites one by one? I'm just curious, it's not a hard work to do it, but I'm interested in it if there exists another method to do it.   • How to setup IIS 7.5 Reverse Proxy for quite a few internal servers - Server Farm?

    I have tried for a few days, but I'm lost. Here's what I'm trying to do: I want to setup an IIS 7.5 as a Reverse Proxy for about 30 internal HTTP servers, located on my internal LAN. Everything is running on port 80. The internal servers are really IP based webcams. Here is scenario: www.mycamserver.com/cam1 192.168.1.101 www.mycamserver.com/cam2 192.168.1.102 and so on, until.. www.mycamserver.com/cam30 192.168.1.130 I have installed ARR and URL Rewrite. So far, I have managed, at one time, to seem to forward an incoming URL to an internal server, but the page would not fully load (error 404). Also, I setup a Server Farm, but it seems all traffic is now set to the first node on the Server Farm (192.168.1.101). However, at least the page loads and runs correctly. I simply want to do an exact match, for example, "cam14", and reverse-proxy / rewrite to a corresponding internal server address - "192.168.1.114".

However, the login view does not display the users name. i actually cant figure out how to pass the users name that i had picked from the database to the login name control to be displayed. taking a close look i also noticed the logout text that should be displayed after successful log in does not show. that leaves me wondering if the loggedin template control on the masterpage even fires at all or its still the anonymous template control that keeps displaying.?   • SharePoint Webpart and ASP.NET User Control

    I am developing SharePoint Web Parts for MOSS 2007 on Visual Studio 2008. Up until now, I've been adding all my controls by hand to the code behind... but an earlier post suggested I could use the designer to create an ASP.NET User Control, then add it to the webpart, and everything is happy... See figure 5 for an example. However, I can't seem to add a new ASP.NET User Control to my MOSS WebPart project, the template just doesn't appear. If I create a WebApplication and make my User Control in there, I can't see any SharePoint templates to add to the project. Finally, I tried copying a simple aspx file and its code behind to my webpart directly, and adding them as an "existing component"... but now the designer won't recognize the aspx file. Next, I'd probably try adding two projects to my solution, and just referencing any dll's from the ASP.NET application... So how do I get an ASP control into my SharePoint WebPart project so that I can use the Visual Studio designer?
