• Problem with Delete Link?

  When I click on the delete link I created, it doesn't do anything (even the flash[:notice] part) in the controller. Am I not calling the .delete? part correctly? The POST part works as I can add tips. • Why is .NET faster than C++ in this case?

  -edit- I LOVE SLaks comment. "The amount of misinformation in these answers is staggering." :D Calm down guys. Pretty much all of you were wrong. I DID make optimizations. It turns out whatever optimizations I made wasn't good enough. I ran the code in GCC using gettimeofday (I'll paste code below) and used g++ -O2 file.cpp and got slightly faster results then C#. Maybe MS didn't create the optimizations needed in this specific case but after downloading and installing mingw I was tested and found the speed to be near identical. Justicle Seems to be right. I could have sworn I use clock on my PC and used that to count and found it was slower but problem solved. C++ speed isn't almost twice as slower in the MS compiler. When my friend informed me of this I couldn't believe it. So I took his code and put some timers onto it. Instead of Boo I used C#. I constantly got faster results in C#. Why? The .NET version was nearly half the time no matter what number I used. • How do I copy input from one textbox to another via checkbox using jQuery?

  I'm cleaning up a simple form that has a Start Date textbox and an End Date textbox. I want to add a checkbox in between these fields that the user can check if the End Date is the same as the Start Date, so when they check it, the Start Date input value (e.g., 04/01/09) will automagically appear in the End Date textbox, so they don't have to type in the same date twice. Does that make sense? BTW, I'm using the sexy jquery datepicker UI, and it's sweet, but I just can't figure out the above problem. I know there's a simple solution (event handler?) but I'm stumped.

• Latex multicolumn problems

  Hi I am trying to build a table in latex where five columns have a common title centered above the columns. But the generated table does not appear as expected.   I have a Ruby class called LibraryItem. I want to associate with every instance of this class an array of attributes. This array is long and looks something like ['title', 'authors', 'location', ...] Note that these attributes are not really supposed to be methods, just a list of attributes that a LibraryItem has. Next, I want to make a subclass of LibraryItem called LibraryBook that has an array of attributes that includes all the attributes of LibraryItem but will also include many more. Eventually I will want several subclasses of LibraryItem each with their own version of the array @attributes but each adding on to LibraryItem's @attributes (e.g., LibraryBook, LibraryDVD, LibraryMap, etc.). So, here is my attempt: class LibraryItem < Object class << self; attr_accessor :attributes; end @attributes = ['title', 'authors', 'location',] end class LibraryBook < LibraryItem @attributes.push('ISBN', 'pages'] end This does not work. • VPN Router drops connections

  We are using a Netgear VPN Firewall Router FVS318v3.. We have a DSL connection here at the office, and my users complain of the connection dropping, or locking up on their end.. Latest firmware is installed, rebooting the router doesn't help, no other internet connectivity issues reported anywhere else (ie., no other internet connection problems here, or at their end, except when connecting to the VPN..) Is there anything else I can check to pinpoint this problem? TIA!!!

  I have a user model which is access controlled by ACL9 in userscontroller: ACL9 related stuff before_filter :load_user, :only = [:show] access_control do allow :owner, :of = :user, :to = [:show] end def load_user user = User.find(params[:id]) end in ApplicaitonController I have a rescue_from 'Acl9::AccessDenied', :with = :access_denied def access_denied authenticate_user! # a method from Devise end it is no problem to type in url for sign in page http://localhost:3000/users/sign_in but it is a problem when for example I type in the user page first, which I am to expect to be redirected to sign in page automatically thru the logic above http://localhost:3000/users/1 #= infinite redirect hell. it tries to redirect back to users/1 again(!?) instead of directing to users/sign_in Does anyone have an opinion as to what might be going wrong? So that I can assign users 'access' to brands, the brands that show up are only the brands that belong to the current company (defined by the subdomain [using subdomain_fu]). The problem I am running into is that when using the default HABTM functionality and the checkbox list, upon save, Rails removes ALL user-brand associations, then re-adds just the ones for the form I just submitted.. How do I scope that to only remove associations of brands who belong to the current company, defined in the subdomain?

Let me explain the scenario: I have two http servers. server A is accessible to end user by web browser, while server B is internal server which can only be accessed by server A. If server B generate some big jpeg image in local disk, obviously we can't just delivery those path to image to server A and eventually to end user. Then, how to let end user see those image without firstly storing those image data in server A temporarily? I run PHP on server A and perl on server B, but this should not matter. I need a general pattern for implementing this.

• SQL IDENTITY COLUMN

  Hey guys i am have an sql table which is basically a statement. Now lest say the records i have in my table have a date and an identity column which is autonumbered and defines the order which the transactions are displayed in the front end to the client. The issue is during an insert some of the data have gone missing and some transactions between two dates are missing. I need to insert the data into the table but i need to insert them between the dates and not at the end of the table.If i do a a normal insert now the data will appear at the end of the table and not at the date i specify because the identity column is autonumbered and cannot be updated.   I have three data models, Users, Conversations and Lines, where each conversation has many lines and certain participating users, each line has one conversation and one user and each user has many conversations and many lines. I have arranged these in ActiveRecord like this: class Line < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :conversation belongs_to :user end class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :conversations has_many :lines end class Conversation < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :lines has_and_belongs_to_many :users end If I want to create a new conversation with 4 users, where the users are either found or created inside the users table, how would I go about doing this? I thought I could do: c = Conversation.new c.users.find_or_create_by_username('myUsername') c.save But this will create a new username in the Users table even if that username already exists! (ie. running the above code 3 times will result in Users having 3 rows with 'myUsername' as the username, one for each conversation, rather than three conversations all with the same 'myUsername' entry listed in their associated users) I'm not sure how to search for this kind of information with google - can anyone help?

  I have a directory /tmp/dir with two types of file names /tmp/dir/abc-something-server.log /tmp/dir/xyz-something-server.log .. .. and /tmp/dir/something-client.log I need append a few lines (these lines are constant) to files end with "client.log" line 1 line 2 line 3 line 4 append these four lines to files end with "client.log" and For files end with "server.log" I needed to append after a keyword say "After-this". "server.log " file has multiple entries of "After-this" I need to find the first entry of "After-this" and append above said four lines keep the remaining file as it is.
