• Creating New Objects in JavaScript

  I'm a relatively newbie to object oriented programming in JavaScript, and I'm unsure of the "best" way to define and use objects in JavaScript. I've seen the "canonical" way to define objects and instantiate a new instance, as shown below. function myObjectType(property1, propterty2) { this.property1 = property1, this.property2 = property2 } // now create a new instance var myNewvariable = new myObjectType('value for property1', 'value for property2'); But I've seen other ways to create new instances of objects in this manner: var anotherVariable = new someObjectType({ property1: "Some value for this named property", property2: "This is the value for property 2" }); I like how that second way appears - the code is self documenting. But my questions are: Which way is "better"? Can I use that second way to instantiate a variable of an object type that has been defined using the "classical"way of defining the object type with that implicit constructor? If I want to create an array of these objects, are there any other considerations? Thanks in advance.

• Strategy in storing ad-hoc numbers/constants?

  I have a need to store a number of ad-hoc figures and constants for calculation. These numbers change periodically but they are different type of values. One might be a balance, a money amount, another might be an interest rate, and yet another might be a ratio of some kind. These numbers are then used in a calculation that involve other more structured figures. I'm not certain what the best way to store these in a relational DB is - that's the choice of storage for the app. One way, I've done before, is to create a very generic table that stores the values as text. I might store the data type along with it but the consumer knows what type it is so, in situations I didn't even need to store the data type. This kind of works fine but I am not very fond of the solution. Should I break down each of the numbers into specific categories and create tables that way? For example, create Rates table, and Balances table, etc.?

• how to have separate keys per record in mongo_mapper + Rails

  When I'm adding a record in mongodb I can specify whatever keys I want and it will store it in the db. The problem is that it will remember those keys for the next time I insert another record. so for example if I do the following: Product.create :foo => 123 and then Product.create :bar => 456 I get :foo => nil field in the 2nd record. This is definitely not a limitation of mongodb itself, since if I restart the rails console and create yet another record with different set of columns, it will not add the columns from the 1st 2 records. So it seems like mongomapper remembers all the keys used and inserts them all into all records, even if values are not provided. The question is obviously: how do I disable this crazy attributes explosion? Basically I want only the 'permanent' keys that I specify in the model to be in every record, but all the 'extra' attributes to be specified per record and not to mess the consequent records.

• C# Windows Service Access denied when trying to write in a folder

  Hi guys, I have deployed successfully a C# windows service on a windows 7 machine. Now, when I try to create a file using this code : FileStream os = new FileStream(String.Format(folderName, fileName), FileMode.Create); I get Access to filepath is denied. In the service Installer I set the following parameters to : this.serviceProcessInstaller1.Account = System.ServiceProcess.ServiceAccount.LocalSystem; this.serviceProcessInstaller1.Password = "Pass"; this.serviceProcessInstaller1.Username = "Administrator" I added all the possible accounts with Full permissions to the folder where I want to create the file but nothing helped. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

  Hello, I am trying to use Piston to provide REST support to Django. I have implemented my handlers as per the documentation provided . The problem is that i can "read" and "delete" my resource but i cannot "create" or "update". Each time i hit the relevant api i get a 400 Bad request Error. • Implementing sub fields in a PropertyGrid

  Alright so my terminology when it comes to C# isn't great, so I'll attempt to explain this with a small example. If you create a class which you are using within a PropertyGrid and you have the following values: class Test { public Point example { get; set; } } This will produce a PropertyGrid which has an expandable object "example" which has fields X and Y in order to create a "Point". I'm attempting to create an object "name" which has fields "firstname" and "lastname", so I have: class Test { public Name example { get; set; } } public struct Name { public string firstname { get; set; } public string lastname { get; set; } } This however isn't working as intended. I think I need to override some method(s) in order to get this working, however since I don't really have the terminology down for PropertyGrids it is difficult for me to find a solution. Any help would be great.

  I'm planning on cloning a Windows XP install, and am a little confused about sysprep. I know that it blanks out the XP product key, but what about other software? If I install Office 2007 and enter a product key, then use sysprep and create an image, will I be able to enter a new product key in clones I create from the image? Or will they all have duplicate product keys?

When I invoke this method, i get exception "Acces denied to path..." When webservice was running at my computer everything was ok. I have full acces to this network disc. But how to set full access to my company server??   I'm trying to create Ranking that shows the sequence of agreements for the two fields Customers and Agreements. The number for agreements must be unique, whereas customers can repeat. The formula RankOfDup: (SELECT Count(*) FROM Data a WHERE a.customer=Data.customer And a.agreement >= Data.agreement) Works beautifully but after this query with columns Agreement, Customer and RankofDup, I need to create crosstab that transposes the RankofDub. It works when I make the table first and then create query but my data is too large so I'm trying to put the select query with the ranking in a crosstab query. However, when I try to do this Access gives error message that microsoft jet ... doesn't recognise Data.customer? Any ideas how I can fix this?

• Non-Git Github?

  This is probably a really weird question... but is there a non-git Github? I want a place to post my projects and share my code (like Github) but I don't want to have to works with versions, commits, etc. I don't like having to create a link between my folder and my git repo and then push the changes etc. In addition, I don't want to have to have a local copy to create or add files; I can edit existing files in Github, but to create or add files, I have to do it locally and then commit and push. I'm not sure if this is the best site to ask on, but I figured someone might have the answer. Thanks in advance.

• Using STI path with same controller

  I am using STI and am wondering, do I have to have a separate controller for each model? I have a situation where I only use the create and edit actions for one model in the STI relationship, but I get an 'undefined method' error if I try to do a form for. More specifically, I have two models that inherit from List: class RegularList < List class OtherList < List and I have a lists controller that handles these actions, but I only create new models with RegularList using forms. i.e. the only situation where I use a form_for to create a new List object is with RegularList. What I would like to do is something like: class ListsController < ApplicationController def new @list = RegularList.new end otherwise the route for creating a new list looks like regular_list/new but I would like it to just be list/new. Thoughts?

When I run it, I get the usage instructions (which I guess is a way of telling me that I've supplied incorrect arguments, although I have no idea what incorrect argument I might have supplied). I will described my case study that I have simplified like these: My Server Socket will always listen client socket. While some request message come from the client socket, the server emulator will response the client through the socket. the response is response code. '00' will describe request message processed successfully, and another response code expect '00' will describe there are some error while processing the message request. IN the server there are some UI, this UI contain check response parameter such as. response code timeout interval While the server want to response the client message, the response code taken from input parameter response form UI check the timeout interval, it will create sleep thread and the interval taken from timeout interval input from UI. I have implement the function, but I create it in one class. I feel it so sucks. Can you suggest me what class / interface that I must create to refactor my code.

• Hibernate doesn't generate cascade

  Hi. I have a set hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto to create so that Hibernate creates the tables in mysql for me. However, it doesn't seem that hibernate correctly adds Cascade on the references in the table. It does however work when I for instance delete a row, and I have a delete cascade as hibernate annotation. So I guess that means that Hibernate reads the annoation on runtime, and perform cascading manually? Is that normal behavior? For instance: @Entity class Report { @OneToOne(cascade = CascadeType.ALL) public File getPdf() { return pdf; } } Here I have set cascade to ALL. However, when running show create table Report Report | CREATE TABLE `Report` ( `id` bigint(20) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `pdf_id` bigint(20) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), KEY `FK91B14154FDE6543A` (`pdf_id`), CONSTRAINT `FK91B14154FDE6543A` FOREIGN KEY (`pdf_id`) REFERENCES `File` (`id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 | It doesn't say anything about cascading other then the foreign key. In my opinion, it should have added the ON DELETE CASCADE ON DELETE UPDATE

When I go to Windows Installer and try to create a new partition from un-allocated space, I don't get any Error message but the installer is unable to create the partition. At the bottom of the installer window, there's a warning which says something like, Windows cannot install on MBR *partition. On EFI systems, Windows can only install on GPT *partition How can I convert MBR to GPT without any OS?

• iPhone: Add background button to view when UITableView has no cells

  I have a UITableViewController, when there is no data to populate the UITableView, I want to add a button, which uses an image. So, rather than the user seeing a tableview with no records, they will see an image that says, "No records have been added, Tap to add one", then they click and we create a new one. I assumed I would just hide the UITableView, then create the button, but I never see the button.
