    Hi, I am an android developer and I made some board games. Now i want to make some of my board games multiplayer. I don't want to create and host my own web service, so i thought about P2P. The first thing i found was the XMPP protocol, however it's not real P2P, but if i can use the existing google talk service, i'm ready to go. Is this possible while using your existing google account without interfering with the normal working of your google talk client? Then i heard about JXTA, a real P2P solution, and it's already ported from J2ME to Android (http://code.google.com/p/peerdroid/). Maybe i am overcomplexing things here (as i do sometimes) I just want to know the easiest way to do simple P2P for a boardgame. All your opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance

  • How to reference another project in Eclipse with Google appengine project?

    I am trying to extract some common classes out to be a common jar, and I want to reference it by the appengine project in Eclipse. It compiles well but could not run. The console just told that some classes from the common jar project could not be found. I know I can just export the project into a jar, but I may want to change it sometimes, so I prefer keep it dynamic. And I know maven may be an option but there is no official maven support for appengine, and I will not try to learn it. Then how can I make it work?

  • Why is the servlet request not available in the portlet API

    The portlet API deos not provide any reference to the enclosing servlet request and response objects. I know it is not the preferred model of interaction with the user, but it seems draconian to remove all access. I understand that for portlet driven interaction with the user, you want to use portlet URLs, and let the portlet container manage all the complexity. However if you have a number of portlets which are basically showing variants of the same data, it makes sense for them to be able to use the enclosing request to drive the data. We ended up using using a Liferay specific call to get the request, and it all seems to work as we wish. However I do feel the guilt. So my question really is, is there an underlying deep reason for the prohibition, or is it just to enforce the authors view of the API environment?

    Hi, Firstly this has turned out to be quite a long post so please bear with me as its not too difficult but you may need to clarify something with me if i haven't explained it correctly. So with some help the other day from guys on this forum, i managed to partially set up my 'mapClass' class, but i'm having trouble with it and its not running correctly so i would like some help if possible. I will post the code below so you can see. What Ive got is a 'Dundrum' class which sets up the listView for an array of items. Then ive got a 'dundrumSelector' class which I use to set up the setOnClickListener() methods on the listItems and link them to their correct views. The onClick() events don't even work from the listView to get into the correct views. I have to comment out the methods in 'DundrumSelector' before I can get into their views. And this is what I dont understand, firstly why wont the onClick() events work, because its not even on that next view where the map is. I know this is a very long post and it might be quite confusing so let me know if you want any clarification.. Just to recap, what i'm trying to do is just have one class that sets up the map coordinates, like what i'm trying to do in my 'mapClass'.     Hi I'm trying to write a console program that reads characters from a file. i want it to be able to read from a Unicode file as well as an ANSI one. how should i address this issue? do i need to programatically distinguish the type of file and read acoordingly? or can i somehow use the windows API data types like TCHAR and stuff like that. The only differnce between reading from the files is that in Unicode i have to read 2 bytes for a character and in ASNSI its 1 byte? im a little lost with this windows API. would appretiate any help thanks

    I've optimized my code to use only lightweight libraries. I'm even using the low level datastore rather than JDO. And my cold start CPU usage has dropped from about 5 seconds to about 1.5 seconds. However, the time it takes to respond is often about 4.5 seconds, though it varies a lot. Here are some lines from my logs: 03-19 09:16PM 57.368 /donothing 200 4506ms 1516cpu_ms 0kb Mozilla/5.0 03-19 09:22PM 54.884 /donothing 200 4452ms 1477cpu_ms 0kb Mozilla/5.0 What is the app engine doing for those extra 3 seconds that apparently isn't using any CPU?

    I have login/signup popups on my site which are in hidden div by default. According to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1547426/google-seo-and-hidden-elements googlebot should NOT see it. But Google Webmaster tool says that keywords "email" and "password" are top keywords over the site. Why it is so? Why google bot sees them? Should I worry about relevancy of top keywords at all?

    I would like to prevent the default behaviour of a click on a link. I tried the return false; also javascript:void(0); in the href attribute but it doesn’t seem to work. It works fine in Firefox, but not in Chrome and IE.   • Providing lat/long AND title in iOS Maps URL seems to cause zoom level to be ignored

    I'm writing an iOS app that shows a location in Maps upon a user action. I'd like to drop a pin with a description and zoom in to show map detail. If I invoke Maps with the url http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483+(Some+Description)&z=19 I get a pin with 'Some Description', but the zoom level is ignored. This does work on the Google Maps website. If I use http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483&z=19 the zoom works, but I get no pin. I've tried a few combinations of ?q=, ?ll= and ?sll=, but so far, nothing will change zoom and show a description. Any clues? Just so we're really clear, here are some screenshots. I want this to work on a real device (i.e. with iOS Maps). The simulator uses Google Maps through Safari.     This started a few weeks ago and we thought it was a virus so we checked every computer and all though 50%(Yeah, that's right) were infected once they were cleaned the problem didn't go away. It's really frustrating so I want to figure it out so I need suggestions on how to find the culprit. I think the router has logging but it logs everyone so it's hard to tell and I might be able to setup a proxy but again it's hard to tell when and what to monitor. What are your suggestions?

Being a 'spring fan' i thought it could be the quicker solution. main point is this restful thingie is not a spring based webapp. boss says the oauth provider should be a separate application, but i'm starting to doubt that. Some heavy processing needs to be performed on the retrieved pages, so the time between a query and another won't be less then a minute. I would like to know whether there is any web search API for java, suitable for my situation, i.e. which allows the use of automated queries?
