  • Rails: Need a helping hand to finish this Jquery/Ajax problem.

    Here's my problem: I have a combo box that when its index changes I want a div tag with the id="services" to repopulate with checkboxes based on that comboboxes value. I want this to be done using ajax. This is my first time working with ajax for rails so I need a helping hand. Here is what I have so far: My application.js file. Something that Ryan uses in one of his railscasts. This is supposed to be a helper method for handling ajax requests. Is this useful? Should I be using this?: //<![CDATA[ $.ajaxSetup({ 'beforeSend': function(xhr) {xhr.setRequestHeader("Accept","text/javascript")} }); // This function doesn't return any results. How might I change that?     Hello all, I have been trying to convert my rails 2.2.2 app over to jQuery, and would like so without using jrails. The only reference material I can find on the subject is Railscasts Episode 136. Ryan goes over how to use jQuery to post a form and handle the response in a .js.erb file. My questions is has anyone tried to use jQuery with .js.erb files with anchors as the trigger? As a replacement for "link_to_remote". I have gotten jQuery to do a .get to submit this link on click to the controller, but I cannot seem to get it to go into the .js.erb file. Thanks

    Hi, I have 2 models, Assessments and Questions. Assessments have many questions.   • Can I ensure all tests contain an assertion in test/unit?

    With test/unit, and minitest, is it possible to fail any test that doesn't contain an assertion, or would monkey-patching be required (for example, checking if the assertion count increased after each test was executed)? Background: I shouldn't write unit tests without assertions - at a minimum, I should use assert_nothing_raised if I'm smoke testing to indicate that I'm smoke testing. Usually I write tests that fail first, but I'm writing some regression tests. Alternatively, I could supply an incorrect expected value to see if the test is comparing the expected and actual value.

(a club has many meetings and a meeting has many attendees) So far I have (declared in class Club < ActiveRecord::Base): num_attendees = meetings.select("COUNT(attendees.id) AS num").joins(:attendees).group('meetings.id') Arel::Table.new('tmp', self.class.arel_engine).from(num_attendees).project('FLOOR(AVG(num))').group('tmp.club_id').to_sql but, I am getting the error: undefined method `visit_ActiveRecord_Relation' for #<Arel::Visitors::MySQL:0x9b42180> The documentation for generating non trivial ARel queries is a bit hard to come by. I have been using http://rdoc.info/github/rails/arel/master/frames Am I approaching this incorrectly? Or am I a few methods away from a solution?

A project has many users through join model A user has many projects through join model Admin class inherits User class. It also has some Admin specific stuff. Admin like inheritance for Supervisor and Operator Project has one Admin, One supervisor and many operators. Now I want to 1. submit data for project, admin, supervisor and operator in a single project form 2. validate all and show errors on the project form.   • Why does font-size only work when I set background-color on a button?

    I am in Rails 3.2.6, on Chrome. I have the following code in my html.erb file: <div id="beta"> <%= form_tag({}, {:id => "id_search"}) do %> ID: <%= text_field_tag "beta_id" %> <%= submit_tag "Go" %> <% end %> </div> When I set the font-size to 24pt in my CSS file, the text field changes properly, but the button doesn't change at all. I pulled it up in my Developer Tools, and it was getting the CSS property, but just not changing its font size. Even when I put !important, nothing happened. I couldn't change the font-family either. JSFiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/R5CXg/ Changing other properties worked. When I changed the background-color property, the button suddenly turned square instead of round, and popped into the correct font-size and font-family. Why was this the case and how can I work around it?

  • how to organize javascripts using rails and jquery

    Hi, i'm working in a big and rich rails web application using tons of javascript. I would like to know if anybody has a tip to organize the javascripts. Today i'm generating a new file named controller.js and adding it to my views using content_for. The problem is, some files are becoming big and sometimes, i need a function from one controller in another, so then in the end, i add a products.js to a details controller just to keep DRY. Is that solution good? Any other tip? I think the same pattern can be applied as well to css files?

  • Action Controller: Exception - ID not found

    Hi Everyone, I am slowly getting the hang of Rails and thanks to a few people I now have a basic grasp of the database relations and associations etc. You can see my previous questions here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2714621/rails-database-relationships I have setup my applications models with all of the necessary has_one and has_many :through etc. but when I go to add a kase and choose from a company from the drop down list - it doesnt seem to be assigning the company ID to the kase.     I am working on a horse racing application and I'm trying to utilize STI to model a horse's connections. A horse's connections is comprised of his owner, trainer and jockey. Over time, connections can change for a variety of reasons: The horse is sold to another owner The owner switches trainers or jockey The horse is claimed by a new owner As it stands now, I have model this with the following tables: horses connections (join table) stakeholders (stakeholder has three sub classes: jockey, trainer & owner) Here are my clases and associations: class Horse < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :connection has_one :owner_stakeholder, :through => :connection has_one :jockey_stakeholder, :through => :connection has_one :trainer_stakeholder, :through => :connection end class Connection < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :horse belongs_to :owner_stakeholder belongs_to :jockey_stakeholder belongs_to :trainer_stakeholder end class Stakeholder < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :connections has_many :horses, :through => :connections end class Owner < Stakeholder # Owner specific code goes here. end class Jockey < Stakeholder # Jockey specific code goes here. end class Trainer < Stakeholder # Trainer specific code goes here. end One the database end, I have inserted a Type column in the connections table.     Ciao a tutti, nella Rails app che sto realizzando, l'utente ha la possibilita' di inserire un post (campo memo) con all'interno una URL. Ad esempio: "bla bla bla bla www.blabla.com bla bla bla ..." Nel mostrare tale post vorrei che www.blabla.com diventasse un link cliccabile (come avviene in twitter). Ovviamente deve essere fatto un parsing della url, immagino usando le espressioni regolari. Avete dei consigli in merito ?     Hello friends i need a book/ tutorials for rails without using scoffold. All the books mentioned in the other questions are creating some depot application or etc using scaffold and then explaining things. I believe in the thing that creating big depot is worthless when you are not getting anything. All of my frnds are suggesting me to go for this pragmatic book. look i understand the book is good but i m not getting the proper things. I got the logic cause i m good in php doctrine. asp.net c c++ so i m getting the things but i m not feeling confident. I want to have a another book. Can anybody suggest me some other books. I m saying this cause it really feels good when u create a simple form and insert the values in db and u can retreive those values and MOST IMP you can explain the whole logic of the that small form application instaed of that colorfull Depot application in which things are done with scaffold and u r not getting the thing and u are confused abt the real picture.

Use lib/tasks instead. I am new to rails, tried looking online but things seem to be outdated. Please help!

  • Should frontend and backend handled by different controllers?

    In my previous learning projects I always used a single controller, but know I wonder if that is good practice or even always possible. In all RESTful Rails tutorials the controllers have a show, an edit and an index view. If an authorized user is logged on, the edit view becomes available and the index view shows additional data manipulation controls, like a delete button or a link to the edit view. Now I have a Rails application which falls exactly into this pattern, but the index view is not reusable: The normal user sees a flashy index page with lots of pictures, complex layout, no Javascript requirement, ... The Admin user index has a completly different minimalistic design, jQuery table and lots of additional data, ... Now I'm not sure how to handle this case. I can think of the following: Single controller, single view: The view is split into two large blocks/partials using an if statement. Single controller, two views: index and index_admin. Two different controllers: BookController and BookAdminController None of this solutions seems perfect, but for now I'm inclined to use the 3rd option. What's the preferred way to do this?
