    I want to execute bash script on startup that opens several terminals in different workspaces. Script works just fine if I call it from terminal, but it doesn't work if executed from crontab using @reboot: #!/usr/bin/env bash #1 make sure we have enough workspaces gconftool-2 --set -t int /apps/metacity/general/num_workspaces 7 #2.     I've created a simple django project and setup a mysql database. My simple project just creates an entry on the database. The project works fine when I use the built in development server provided by django (runserver) and it works well. But when I deployed the project on Apache and mod_Wsgi (Ubuntu server), django could not find 'books', which is in this case my table in the database. The mysql database that I use in runserver and apache are just the same. I also did rebuild the database using sqlall,validate and syncdb of django but still i get the error. What could be wrong with what I'm doing? Thanks

  • buttons to revert and add item to menu aren't working

    I right-clicked Applications - clicked Edit Menu - reset - confirmed, but Ubuntu One, which I accidetanlly removed wasn't added. Although Ubuntu One was removed, I tried to remove duplicated items in right-click Applications - click Edit Menu - Applications - Others, but the duplicated items weren't removed. How to solve these problems? UPDATE: I uninstalled gnome-menus and libgnome-menu2, because of the post at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=426204, but now Gnome App Central is gone from Applications menu.

  • ruby on rails gitorious setup on ubuntu

    Ive been trying to install gitorious for a while now which required ruby and rails etc. Ive finally got rails pages serving but cant finish the installation of gitorious because the gem version is too new. the error logs say please run 'rake ultrasphinx:configure' and that gives rake ultrasphinx:configure (in /var/www/apps/gitorious) rake aborted! uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Dependencies::Mutex /var/www/apps/gitorious/Rakefile:10:in `require' (See full trace by running task with --trace) From searching google this is beacuse of the wrong gem verison. Cant find a way to down grade it. apparently sudo gem update --system 1.4.2 should do the trick but ubuntu 10.10 does not like this. ERROR: While executing gem ... (RuntimeError) gem update --system is disabled on Debian, because it will overwrite the content of the rubygems Debian package, and might break your Debian system in subtle ways. The Debian-supported way to update rubygems is through apt-get, using Debian official repositories. If you really know what you are doing, you can still update rubygems by setting the REALLY_GEM_UPDATE_SYSTEM environment variable, but please remember that this is completely unsupported by Debian. So i added export REALLY_GEM_UPDATE_SYSTEM=1 to .bashrc and reloaded it with . ~/.bashrc and still the same. ive tried various forms of setting this environmental variable with no luck. Ive also been told on #gitorious irc channel to add the file config/initializers/rubygems.rb with the line require "thread" to it. This has done nothing.   • Why nautilus quicklist is not working?

    None of my bookmarks (Documents, Pictures, Download, Dropbox, Ubuntu One, Music, Public) are correctly shown but they won't open if I right click on the Home icon and select them. The only ones who work are Home and Open A New Window. I've read similar questions (http://askubuntu.com/questions/184504/unity-home-quicklist-not-working-when-nautilus-is-closed and unity home quicklist not working) but my problem seems different...     I'm serving a binary file (.IPA) with Ubuntu/Apache 2.2. When I have chosen Save Linked File As... in Safari, it says it's text file. And it guides me to add .txt extension. However it does not add any extra extension when I download it just clicking link. I added line AddType application/octet-stream .ipa in apache configuration file. I don't know what's wrong with this. Is this a bug of Safari or my misconfiguration? (1) If it caused by bug, how can I avoid this? (2) Or if it caused by misconfiguration, what should I do?

    I've become fairly competent as a programmer, but I would not say I am a master. I work independently, most as a hobby, although I have done some freelance PHP work. I tend to find myself dabbling in a lot of things: Java Android SDK, Arduino, game scripting, Lua, etc. I've reached the point where I want to start a real software project, but cannot think of a small enough project that allows me enough practice, while still being able to publish a decent piece of software in a reasonable amount of time, and build up a portfolio. More specifically, I was looking at Ubuntu development, in Python, using the Quickly toolset, which includes the PyGTK libraries. So the question is, what is the best way to come up with a small project that is still useful, as a starting point to a software development career?

  • Custom layout/group switching keys in Linux

    I'm using Ubuntu (Karmic) and 2 keyboard layouts. Using the gnome settings, I managed to set it to switch with Alt+Shift (windows style), but I really want to limit it to Right Alt + Right Shift, but that option isn't available in the gnome wizard. I've opened gconf-editor and found the kbd configuration, but trying to add 'r' or 'right_' prefixes to the keys didn't help. Is this possible?

They sent me 4 .crt files: www_mywebsite_it.crt AddTrustExternalCARoot.crt PositiveSSLCA.crt UTNAddTrustServerCA.crt I have configurate www_mywebsite_it.crt and my .key on NGinx, but I also have to install the others .crt files. How can I do it? I'm using Ubuntu. (The problem is that I see correctly the SSL certificate using Firefox, Chrome and Opera but if I use Firefox 4.0.1 (the last) I get the default Firefox alert for insecure website.) Thank you!

Now the problem is the URL of sites changed as we have use SEO URLS on joomla. In between we have use .htaccess to redirect user from old URL to new like this Redirect /pages/oldpage.php http://www.mydomain.com/products/category/new_page.html Is this good practice to redirect user to new URL or not?(we have used same server). One more thing, We have used splash page on our site, and to set up it we have made some changes and because of it one of the important link is not working, and it is http://www.mydomail.com/index.php How can I get rid of it? I have used DirectoryIndex splash.html home.html index.php in .htaccess to open splash page first when someone open my site http://www.mydomain.com. Note: my website hosted on dedicated ubuntu server.

Basically it should be a "file forum" in the sense that users can register and be approved to post files to categories. Users with "read" privileges can then go through the categories and download files. Basically I sort of want a FTP-like system, but it should be as easy to manage users, categories, etc as that of a forum system like vB or phpBB. If it could have a forum look and feel that would also be great, but I don't want any discussions taking place.

  • NTFS disk mounted as fuseblk in ubuntu 12.10 is very slow and a lot of errors when rsync. Is that not a rare thing?

    I am having problems with a NTFS disk mounted as a fuseblk in my ubuntu 12.10 through external usb3. When I did a 1.1TB backup with rsync the speed was 1-2MB/s (wiht a ext4 disk speed was 70 MB/s before and after trying the NTFS disk). Also after one hour errors started to appear: rsync: write failed on "xxx": No such file or directory recv_files: "yyy" is a directory #but this file is a FILE not a dir ??!! .... As this is the first time I have mounted the NTFS in linux for heavy usage (the data would be used in windows afterwards), I would like to know if this kind of thinks are common o was only that something became unstable in my system and a simply restart would probably have solved it. This leads me to the these questions: Can I trust fuse for manage NTFS disks? Or is a problem of the NTFS tools in linux not yet totally stables for writing? Do people is still suffering from low performance with fuse-NTFS vs ext4 (in the past I have read about people complaining about this)?

This doesn't sound like a very uncommon ethernet controller and I figured it would be picked up by the system. Does anybody have advice for how to deal with this? Anything specific I should look into to figure out what could be causing this? Edit: It seems that following the guide on the Intel e1000e drivers page allowed the card to start working. Is this a real fix or is there a better way?

    I have been trying to get cuda to run on a nvidia gt 650m based laptop. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with the nvidia 295.59 driver. Also, my laptop uses Optimus so I have install the driver via bumblebee. Bumblebee is not working correctly yet -- however I believe it is possible to install CUDA independently. To install CUDA I have followed the instructions detailed here: How can I get nVidia CUDA or OpenCL working on a laptop with nVidia discrete card/Intel Integrated Graphics? However I am still running into problem building the sdk. The errors obviously are correct, the file /lib/security/pam_winbind.so does not exist. If its a dependancy/required, surely it should be part of the package? I've installed/reinstalled, I've used the downloaded package from the beyondtrust website, i've used the repository, nothing seems to work, every method of installing this application generates the same errors for me. UPDATE : Hrmm, I thought likewise didn't use native winbind but its own modules. Installing winbind from apt-get uninstalls pbis-open (likewise) and generates failures when installing if pbis-open is installed first. Uninstalled winbind, reinstalled pbis-open, same issue as above. The file pam_winbind.so does not exist in that location. Setting up pbis-open-legacy (7.0.1.918) ... Installing Packages was successful This computer is joined to DOMAIN.LOCAL New libraries and configurations have been installed for PAM and NSS. Clearly it thinks it has installed it, but it hasn't. It may be a legacy issue with the previous attempt to configure domain integration manually with winbind. Does anyone have a working likewise-open installation and does the /etc/nsswitch.conf include references to winbind? Or do the /etc/pam.d/common-account or /etc/pam.d/common-password reference pam_winbind.so? I'm unsure if those entries are just legacy or setup by likewise. UPDATE 2 : Complete reinstall of OS fixed it and it worked seamlessly, like it was meant to and those 2 PAM files did NOT include entries for pam_winbind.so, so that was the underlying problem.
