  • Junit import using * wildcard

    - by Xenorose
I've noticed that when importing JUnit, the * wildcard doesn't always work. e.g. for the annotation @Test you must import org.junit.Test since org.junit.* doesn't recognize the annotation. Is there a reason for this, is it something that needs setting? or just a quirk in the way somethings like JUnit are. FYI, I am using: Junit 4.6, Intelli-J 8.1.3.

  • RSS2.0 + Publishing in Tomcat + Reading using Google-Ajax-API's

    - by Panther24
I've published an RSS xml in my tomcat. When I hit the URL, like http://localhost:8080/Proj/rss.xml, I'm able to view the feed. But when I integrate it with Google Ajax Api, I always end up with "Feed could not be loaded." So to test, I downloaded an rss.xml file from a reputed site, put it into my tomcat server and hit the url and it should up, but again when I integrate it with Google's AJAX api, it doesn't load up. Any help!!

  • Does python import all the listed libraries? - Python

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I'm just wondering, I often have really long python files and imports tend to stack quite quickly. PEP8 says that the imports should always be written at the beginning of the file. Do all the imported libraries get imported when calling a function coded in the file? Or do only the necessary libraries get called? Does it make sense to worry about this? Is there no reason to import libraries within the functions or classes that need them?

  • Is there a convention, when using Java RMI, to use the dollar sign $ in a variable name?

    - by Thomas Owens
I realize that it is a valid part of a variable name, but I've never seen variable names actually use the symbol $ before. The Java tutorial says this: Additionally, the dollar sign character, by convention, is never used at all. You may find some situations where auto-generated names will contain the dollar sign, but your variable names should always avoid using it. However, since this is geared toward Java beginners, I'm wondering if in the distributed world, the $ lives on with a special meaning.

  • DataGridView's top left cell value is not displayed.

    - by Spike
I have a DataGridView, without visible row or column headers, and bound to a BindingList. No matter what I try the top left cell (Rows[0].Cells[0]) is always empty. The cell's Visible property is true, but it never displays its contents. If I make some rows and columns invisible, it's still the top left of the visible cells that isn't displayed.

  • What's the difference between isPrototypeOf and intanceof in Javascript?

    - by Steffen Heil
Hi In some of my own older code, I use the following: Object.prototype.instanceOf = function( iface ) { return iface.prototype.isPrototypeOf( this ); }; Then I do (for example) [].instanceOf( Array ) This works, but it seems the following would do the same: [] instanceof Array Now, surly this is only a very simple example. My question therefor is: Is a instanceof b ALWAYS the same as b.prototype.isPrototypeOf(a) ? Regards, Steffen

  • converting an int to char*

    - by Alexander
This is a very very basic question and I know one way is to do the following: char buffer[33]; itoa(aq_width, buffer,10); where aq_width is the int, but then I can't guarantee what size of buffer I would need in order to do this... I can always allocate a very large buffer size, but that wouldn't be very nice... any other pretty and simple way to do this?

What am I doing wrong. Thanks

  • Style guide for database metadata naming

    - by Nulldevice
We want to establish some database metadata naming rules in our new project. For example: tables are named as nouns in a plural form (courses, books, lessons) if present, an adjective goes before a noun in a table name and is separated by an underscore (red_books, new_lessons) table index column is always named "id" foreign key names are derived from a table name with suffix _id (book_id, red_book_id) so on Does someone know any guide like this?

  • What defines writing PHP?

    - by cdburgess
When writing PHP code for any given project, do you find you can write code off the top of your head? Or do you make multiple round trips to php.net? If it is the later, can you still be considered a good coder. This is a legitimate question as I find I have difficulty always remembering all of the functions that are available to me so I find I use php.net as a crutch. Is there anyway to improve this?

  • Neural Network: Handling unavailable inputs (missing or incomplete data)

    - by Mike
Hopefully the last NN question you'll get from me this weekend, but here goes :) Is there a way to handle an input that you "don't always know"... so it doesn't affect the weightings somehow? Soo... if I ask someone if they are male or female and they would not like to answer, is there a way to disregard this input? Perhaps by placing it squarely in the centre? (assuming 1,0 inputs at 0.5?) Thanks

  • How does MySQL's ORDER BY RAND() work?

    - by Eugene
Hi, I've been doing some research and testing on how to do fast random selection in MySQL. In the process I've faced some unexpected results and now I am not fully sure I know how ORDER BY RAND() really works. I always thought that when you do ORDER BY RAND() on the table, MySQL adds a new column to the table which is filled with random values, then it sorts data by that column and then e.g. you take the above value which got there randomly. I've done lots of googling and testing and finally found that the query Jay offers in his blog is indeed the fastest solution: SELECT * FROM Table T JOIN (SELECT CEIL(MAX(ID)*RAND()) AS ID FROM Table) AS x ON T.ID >= x.ID LIMIT 1; While common ORDER BY RAND() takes 30-40 seconds on my test table, his query does the work in 0.1 seconds. He explains how this functions in the blog so I'll just skip this and finally move to the odd thing. My table is a common table with a PRIMARY KEY id and other non-indexed stuff like username, age, etc. Here's the thing I am struggling to explain SELECT * FROM table ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1; /*30-40 seconds*/ SELECT id FROM table ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1; /*0.25 seconds*/ SELECT id, username FROM table ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1; /*90 seconds*/ I was sort of expecting to see approximately the same time for all three queries since I am always sorting on a single column. But for some reason this didn't happen. Please let me know if you any ideas about this. I have a project where I need to do fast ORDER BY RAND() and personally I would prefer to use SELECT id FROM table ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1; SELECT * FROM table WHERE id=ID_FROM_PREVIOUS_QUERY LIMIT 1; which, yes, is slower than Jay's method, however it is smaller and easier to understand. My queries are rather big ones with several JOINs and with WHERE clause and while Jay's method still works, the query grows really big and complex because I need to use all the JOINs and WHERE in the JOINed (called x in his query) sub request. Thanks for your time!

  • .net 4.0 creating a MemoryMappedFile with global context throws exception

    - by Christoph
Hi all, I want to create a global MemoryMappedFile in C# 4.0 using following call: string MemoryMappedFileName = "Global\\20E9C857-C944-4C35-B937-A5941034D073"; ioBuffer = MemoryMappedFile.CreateNew(MemoryMappedFileName, totalIoBufferSize); This always throws following exception "System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path is denied." If I remove the "Global\" identifier from the memorymapped filename it works but I need a memory mapped file existing accross terminal sessions. thanks, Christoph
