  Hi To implement a college project, I need to handle XML files. For this I choose lxml after doing some research. However I can't seem to find some nice tutorial to help me get started. I can't choose most specifically which type of parsing I need to use. My XML files don't have that much data but speed is main concern, not memory. Can anyone point me to some tutorial that would help me or some book that I can lookup? I have already tried the tutorial on lxml site but that didn't help me much. Is there some small application I can look up to get a hang of parsing XML with lxml

When passing from A.swf, it gets a Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. • XQuery - problem with recursive function

  Hi all, Im new on this project and am going to write, what i thought was a simple thing. A recursive function that writes nested xml elements in x levels (denoted by a variable). So far I have come up with this, but keeps getting a compile error. Please note that i have to generate new xml , not query existing xml: xquery version "1.0"; declare function local:PrintTest($amount) { <test> { let $counter := 0 if ($counter <= $amount ) then local:PrintTest($counter) else return $counter := $counter +1 } </test> }; local:PrintPerson(3) My error is: File Untitled1.xquery: XQuery transformation failed XQuery Execution Error!   Hi, I have an Android Service. When a phone boots up, a broadcast receiver receives a notification and it schedules the service to run repeatedly at a gap of X minutes. Henceforth After every X minutes another broadcast receiver gets those notifications and kicks the service off, which does it's job and quits. So far so good. Now I want those X minutes to be configurable. I have a perf.xml similar to what is given at the link below. This XML captures all my preferences along with that of service timer. http://android-journey.blogspot.com/2010/01/for-almost-any-application-we-need-to.html Now when user changes preferences; how can I reschedule the alarm?   I've written a simple perl script that I'm running via fastCGI on Apache. The application loads a set of XML data files which are used to lookup values based upon the the query parameters of an incoming request. As I understand it, if I want to increase the amount of concurrent requests my application can handle I need to allow fastCGI to spawn multiple processes. Will each of these processes have to hold duplicate copies of the XML data in memory? Is there a way to set things up so that I can have one copy of the XML data loaded in memory while increasing the capacity to handle concurrent requests?

  We are using hibernate in a new project where we use the hibernate.reveng.xml to create our *.hbm.xml files and POJOs after that. We want to have equals methods in each of our POJOs. I found that you can use <meta attribute="use-in-equals">true</meta> in your hbm files to mark which properties to use in the equals. But this would mean editing alot of files, and then re-editing the files again in the future if/when we modify tables or columns in our DB. So I was wondering if there is a way to place which properties to use in the equals method for each pojo(table) in the hibernate.reveng.xml file?

  Hi, I would like to create my own data format for an iPhone app. The files should be similar structured as e.g. Apple's iWork files (.pages). That means, I have a folder with some files in it: The file 'Juicy.fruit' contains: Fruits ---> Apple.xml ---> Banana.xml ---> Pear.xml ---> PreviewPicture.png This folder "Fruits" should be packed in a handy file 'Juicy.fruit'. Compression isn't necessary. How could I achieve this? I've discovered some open source ZIP-libraries. • What are the arguments against parsing the Cthulhu way?

  I have been assigned the task of implementing a Domain Specific Language for a tool that may become quite important for the company. The language is simple but not trivial, it already allows nested loops, string concatenation, etc. and it is practically sure that other constructs will be added as the project advances. I know by experience that writing a lexer/parser by hand -unless the grammar is trivial- is a time consuming and error prone process. So I was left with two options: a parser generator à la yacc or a combinator library like Parsec. The former was good as well but I picked the latter for various reasons, and implemented the solution in a functional language. The result is pretty spectacular to my eyes, the code is very concise, elegant and readable/fluent. I concede it may look a bit weird if you never programmed in anything other than java/c#, but then this would be true of anything not written in java/c#. At some point however, I've been literally attacked by a co-worker. After a quick glance at my screen he declared that the code is uncomprehensible and that I should not reinvent parsing but just use a stack and String.Split like everybody does. He made a lot of noise, and I could not convince him, partially because I've been taken by surprise and had no clear explanation, partially because his opinion was immutable (no pun intended). I even offered to explain him the language, but to no avail. I'm positive the discussion is going to re-surface in front of management, so I'm preparing some solid arguments. These are the first few reasons that come to my mind to avoid a String.Split-based solution: you need lot of ifs to handle special cases and things quickly spiral out of control lots of hardcoded array indexes makes maintenance painful extremely difficult to handle things like a function call as a method argument (ex. add( (add a, b), c) very difficult to provide meaningful error messages in case of syntax errors (very likely to happen) I'm all for simplicity, clarity and avoiding unnecessary smart-cryptic stuff, but I also believe it's a mistake to dumb down every part of the codebase so that even a burger flipper can understand it. It's the same argument I hear for not using interfaces, not adopting separation of concerns, copying-pasting code around, etc. A minimum of technical competence and willingness to learn is required to work on a software project after all. (I won't use this argument as it will probably sound offensive, and starting a war is not going to help anybody) What are your favorite arguments against parsing the Cthulhu way?* *of course if you can convince me he's right I'll be perfectly happy as well

Problems occur, when I use special characters, like german umlauts (Ö,Ä,Ü) in these parameters. In my java task they appear as ?-characters (using System.out.print). However, SBT wiki says that, if inline dependency is specified in SBT project definition, POM will be ignored (so using both in this case is impossible): Maven and Ivy configurations (pom.xml and ivy.xml) are ignored when inline dependency declarations are present. Does anyone know, if any kind of converter from Maven POM to SBT project definition exists (translating POM's XML into project definition Scala code)?
