• C# timer won't tick

  hi, i have a strange problem... I've been going out of my mind for the past couple of hours... the timer i put in my winform code (from the toolbar) won't tick... I have timers on a couple of forms in my program, they all work fine... I try to do exactly the same it this it won't tick... I select it, drag it on to a form, enable it, set interval and handle the tick event... and nothing happens... i even tried putting random code like messagebox.show in the tick event just to see if anything happens, and nothing!!! as I said, a have a couple of more timer in my program (on other forms, not in the one i'm trying to put this timer) and they all work fine... any suggestions? thanks in advance!

• Windows Service Webbrowser object invalid cast exception error

  Hi all, I'm having a bit of trouble with a Windows Service webbrowser object. It's attempting to load in values of username and password to a site but keeps failing and throwing the following error: System.InvalidCastException: Specified cast is not valid. at System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.IHTMLDocument2.GetLocation() at System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser.get_Document() at MyWindowsService.MyDataProcessor.login() The code that I'm using to make this call is: MyWebBrowser.Document.All["Login"].SetAttribute("Value", username); MyWebBrowser.Document.All["Password"].SetAttribute("Value", password); MyWebBrowser.Document.All["submit"].InvokeMember("Click"); Any ideas as to why it keeps failing? • error during build using sandcastle help builder with visual studio 2010 .NET 4.0 project

  I was using sandcastle to generate help for my project in visual studio 2008. When i change my project to visual studio 2010 and change the project .NET version to .NET 4.0 i got this problem with Sandcastel. I can't understand why sandcastel is using C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v3.5\MSBuild.exe and not C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0\MSBuild.exe thinking that i specified as framework version the v4.0.30319 Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue?? Where to change the path of the msbuild.exe or some other solution ??? Generating reflection information... • Winforms: Enabling Localization by default (enforcing a project/solution policy)

  Is there an easy way to set the Localizable property to true for newly created usercontrols / forms? The scope of the setting should ideally be a solution or a project. In other words I want to say that this project/solution should be localizable, and then if I add a new form or control VS should automatically set the property to true. Edit: Although custom templates are possible, in a larger team they might not be always used. So it's more about enforcing a policy, ensuring that the team members do not ommit to set the property for the projects/solutions where it is a requirement that all forms/controls containing text resources should be localizable. Note: Team Foundation Server is not an Option.

• Prevent direct access to a PHP page.

  How do I prevent my users from accessing directly pages meant for ajax calls only? Passing a key during ajax call seems like a solution, whereas access without the key will not be processed. But it is also easy to fabricate the key, no? Curse of View Source... p/s: Using Apache as webserver. EDIT: To answer why, I have jQuery ui-tabs in my index.php, and inside those tabs are forms with scripts, which won't work if they're accessed directly. Why a user would want to do that, I don't know, I just figure I'd be more user friendly by preventing direct access to forms without validation scripts.

• MessageBox doesn't show on mdi form after a long calculation

  Hello This is a very similar problem to This one, sadly that one was never answered either. I have a MDI Main forum that hosts several children forms. One of them does a long calculation and throws an exception if an error occurs (all work is done on the same thread). I then try to inform the user of an error with an messagebox, however it doesn't appear (but steals focus from the MDI Main, so the application is completely unresponsive). The beheviour changes slightly if I call Application.DoEvents() (evil I know, but this is a last resort thing). Then the forms remain completely active and the messagebox only appears after I change active application (Alt+Tab) to something else and then back again. What can I do to make sure the messagebox will be visible? I have already tried passing both, active child and MDI Main as parameter to the MessageBox.Show method. It doesn't change the behaviour.

• jQuery ajax callback function not working

  I am using Symfony PHP Framework to create web application, and using symfony Forms to create the HTML forms. I am trying to load the data in Select element using Ajax, for that i am using jQuery's Ajax functions. It is working fine as it sends and gets the response correctly(status as 200), but not calling the Callback function in some browsers such as IE,Chrome and Safari.It works fine in Firefox and Opera. the Code that is not working, $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'form/ajax', async: true, cache: false, dataType : 'json', data: 'id='+ids, success: function(jsonData){ alert("ok go"); } }); the alert "OK Go" is not called in Chrome,IE and Safari But $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'form/ajax', async: true, cache: false, dataType : 'json', data: 'id='+ids, success: alert("ok go"); }); this works, but as per the project i want the JSON data to load in my Select element. is there any thing wrong in the return JSON format or the bug in the jQuery Ajax functions, please help.

  Hi, Is there any way to get taskbar's battery and phonesignal indicators icons and then draw into a picturebox or something? Why do I need this? I need all screen space available, so all forms are maximized and they cover up the windowsmobile taskbar. But, I have to display information about battery e phone signal strength in just a couple of forms. I know how to get their values (like systeminformation.phonesignalstrength), but what I want is the "current icon", so I don't need to worry about their values. It's just a visual information for the user. In last case, if this is not possible, how to get those icons from windowsmobile shell, so I'll draw them by my self, treating each differente status/values that they assume. (This is what I don't want to do!) Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor english.

• STAThread and Process output capture in c#

  Hi: This is a strange problem I encountered. I have an window application written in c# to do testing. It has a MDI parent form that is hosting a few children forms. One of the forms launch test cripts by creating processes and capture the scripts output to a text box. Another form open serial port and monitoring the status of the device I am working on(like a shell). If I ran both of them together, the output of the script seems only appear in the text box after the test is done. However, If I don't open the serial port form, the output of the script is captured in real time. Does anyone knows what's causing the problem? I notice the onDataReceived even handler for serial port form has a [STAThread] header to it. Will this cause the serial port thread having higher priority than other processes? Thanks in advance.

• mybase.showdialog event fired without apparent reason

  Hi, i'm new to vb .net and oop although i have learned the basics. I'm working in VB and .NET CF 3.5 and i'm trying to pass and received a value with showdialog. The issue here is when i'm done with a procedure in Load, for some reason MyBase.Showdialog (line 3) gives an error of "NullReferenceException was unhandled", but the same procedure doesn't have anything to do with Showdialog. Also, this same error happens with me in other forms when i use AlphaImageButton from AlphaMobileControls. I even created an custom AlphaImageButton with a DialogResult Property and set it to None with no avail. • URL Routing with WebForms, what to do with additional querystrings like page number, filter, etc?

  I am switching from Intelligencia's UrlRewriter to the new web forms routing in ASP.NET 4.0. I have it working great for basic pages, however, in my e-commerce site, when browsing category pages, I previously used querystrings that were built into my pager control to control paging. An old url (with UrlRewriting) would be: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17 I have a MapPageRoute defined in global.asax as: routes.MapPageRoute("category-browse", "Category/{name}_{id}", ~/CategoryPage.aspx"); This works great. Now, somebody clicks to go to page 2. Previously I would have just tacked on ?page=2 as the querystring. Now, How do I handle this using web forms routing? I know I can do something like: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17/page/2 But in addition to page, I can have filters, age ranges, gender, etc. Should I just keep defining routes that handle these variables, or should I continue using querystrings and can I define a route that allows me to use my querstrings like before?

I am placing the form into a ViewScript decorator like this: $this->setDecorators(array(array('ViewScript', array('viewScript' => 'game/forms/game-management.phtml')))); I'd like to pass in a variable to this ViewScript but am not sure how this could be done. Since the partial renders out as a Zend_View (allowing $this-app_store_icon for rendering), it seems like there should be a way to pass variables to be rendered. I tried the following but to no avail. $this->setDecorators(array(array('ViewScript', array('viewScript' => 'game/forms/game-management.phtml'),array('app_store_picon'=>$current_app_store_picon)))); Any help on how to get this done would be appreciated. thanks

  I have a MDI windows forms application and my child forms mostly have "OK" and "Cancel" buttons. However I do not want them to be activated with ENTER/ESC keys to prevent accidental saves/aborts. So, the form has both AcceptButton and CancelButton set to none. The ESC button indeed does nothing, but the ENTER button still closes the form by "clicking" on the first button found, sorted by TabOrder. Why is this so? Must I really start doing workarounds and catching the ENTER key?

  For performance tests I need a way to measure the time needed for a form to load its definition from the DFM. All existing forms inherit a custom form class. To capture the current time, this base class needs overriden methods as "extension points": start of the deserialization process after the deserialization (can be implemented by overriding the Loaded procedure) the moment just before the execution of the OnFormCreate event So the log for TMyForm.Create(nil) could look like: - 00.000 instance created - 00.010 before deserialization - 01.823 after deserialization - 02.340 before OnFormCreate Which TObject (or TComponent) methods are best suited? Maybe there are other extension points in the form creation process, please feel free to make suggestions. Background: for some of our app forms which have a very basic structure (with some PageControls and QuantumGrids) I realized that it is not database access and other stuff in OnFormShow but the construction which took most of the time (around 2 seconds) which makes me wonder where this time is spent. As a reference object I will also build a mock form which has a similar structure but no code or datamodule connections and measure its creation time.

• What event do I need to supress to stop IE from "Dinging" when I press enter in a text box?

  On simple forms with one text box pressing enter submits the form (and this is great for easy search forms) However on a form with multiple fields, pressing Enter in an input="text" box won't do anything (e.g. submit) but in IE it "Dings" as if you have tried to delete an undeletable object. The question is... what event do I need to suppress in IE to stop this sound? e.g. if I have a username/password form, I DO want the enter key to submit the form, but I certainly don't want the "error" sound. • Java Inter Application Form Communication Observer Pattern

  Observer pattern? Where do i get examples of this in Java (i know google but was hoping for some personal insight also.) On to a proper explanation of my issue: i have 3 forms/windows. "board" is the main form that loads as the application. "chat" is where the text chat takes place. "network" is where network connection is established. i have the game (connect4) working locally and i would like to implement a networked version of it also. my idea is maybe it is related to Observer pattern to have a thread (or something) monitoring network state during runtime and update the chat and board forms of the current network status as well as delivering received data from the network. are my ideas valid? or how should i go about establishing network and network status updates throughout the application? thank you for your input.
