    Hello, I want to know how to add some sort of emblem or badge to a specific file. Just like drop box does to a specific file when it is doing a sync. I found that the guys from drop box are able to do that on linux by using libnautilus package. But I need to do so on windows and haven't been able to find an answer.     I'm running on an OS X environment and would like to create a flexible web development environment locally... including the option to run on an Nginx server for my PHP-based application. At the end of the day (or, development cycle), I'd like to be able to hit a switch and have it all sync over to Amazon AWS hosting (EC2, S3) - instances, databases, files, configurations, and all. Are there any simple ways to do this?

    Have a Map which contains objects that I want to keep in sync across multiple servers, such that if objects in the map are created, deleted, or modified - this is reflected immediately (ie. within a second or two) across all servers, in a way that can potentially scale up to tens of servers. Is there a lightweight open source Java tool that can do something like this? I'm aware of Terracotta but it is rather heavy weight for what I need.

    My notebook boots extreme slowly and shows loads of the following error in the event log: Error reading local hosts file Source: DNS Client Events EventID: 1012 The computer is quite new, I kind of just finished installing.     I have a situation that I need help with. I backed up my Files on Windows XP using the System BackUp utility/wizard, and then Installed a new operating system on the machine. Now I want to restore my old files via the .bak file but it is not being recognized at all. Did I do this wrong or is there a way to still get back my old files on my new OS ? Thanks in advance!

There is a drive (partition) on my laptop machine that i want to backup to a network drive- if i delete a file in the folder on my laptop, it should also be deleted from the backup... I used to use syncToy, however i understand this does not work correctly with windows 7 - at least not with a large number of files. Are there any alternatives?

The user in question, of course, will be a member of the group, but it is not his primary group. In other words, is there a way for sftp to automatically duplicate the effects of umask and newgrp?

    Hi there, I am using ubuntu 9.10, and I would like to associate thunderbird to all the files with the extension .eml. The problem is that is seems that ubuntu is attributing the mime type text/plain to these files, based on their content, which meens that if I set thunderbird as the default application for .eml files, all the other text files (.txt for instance) will be opened with thunderbird. Is it possible to add a rule to impose a mime type based on the file extension, regardless of its content?

  • Nginx + php5-fpm = "File not found"

    I've hit a wall whilst setting up a site using nginx / fpm. The page displays "File not found", and this appears in the nginx error.log: FastCGI sent in stderr: "Primary script unknown" while reading response header from upstream I'm new to both nginx and fpm, and that error message means nothing to me (even the google machine hasn't helped!). Can anyone shed any light onto what could be happening?

    I'm trying to run the following command without the need for sudo: echo 1 | sudo tee -a /sys/block/$hd/device/delete The $hd variable changes dynamically from sdb - sdi for each one of my HDD's in my drive bay. I added the following line to the sudoers file: operator ALL=/sys/block/sdb/device/delete But this didn't make a difference its still asking for sudo password even if I run: echo 1 | sudo tee -a /sys/block/sdb/device/delete

    I'm pretty new to using Linux heavily, and I'm trying to learn more about file ownership and permissions. One thing that I stumbled on just now was exactly what the title says, running: weee@my-server:~$ sudo echo "hello" > some-file.txt weee@my-server:~$ ls -lh total 4.0K -rw-rw-r-- 1 weee weee 6 Dec 5 21:21 some-file.txt The file is owned by me, whereas touch works like one would expect: weee@my-server:~$ sudo touch other-file.txt weee@my-server:~$ ls -lh total 4.0K -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Dec 5 21:22 other-file.txt How can I force the file to be created by root? Do I simply have to create the file in my homedir, then sudo chown root... and sudo mv ... move it to /var where I need it to be? I was hoping there'd be a single step to accomplish this.

Webfaction doesn't allow sudo or allow me to change the directory group ownership using chown.
