  • copying files from one windows server to another

    I have to copy a file from a windows 2008 server to one or more windows 2008 servers. I have accounts on the target machines with enough privileges to let me use powershell remoting and use wmi. The remote machines do not run ftp, ssh or similar file transfer mechanisms. I am not allowed to install software or run new services on the target server. I can run services on the source server. The file copy action must be initiated from the source server. i.e. I cannot manually logon to the target machines and initiate the copy - though an automated way to do this is acceptable. Is it possible to use WMI or PowerShell Remoting to push or pull the file from the source to the target ? Is it possible to invoke some sort of built in http client or invoke the BITS service/agent on the remote servers to pull files from the source server ? Other suggestions please.

    I've just spent thousands of dollars on VSTS 2008 and thought that the usual Dotfuscaor Comunity Edition would've been upgraded to the pro version in this version of visual studio. After spending a fortune on Visual Studio Team Suite you would think you would get a full featured obfuscator for free. Now I have to spend another couple K for a PreEmptive Dotobfuscator license. What gives? What full featured (free) obfuscator do you all use?

  • How exactly can Python compliment your C# skills for windows based development?

    I'm looking for a fun challenge, and am thinking about learning Python. I've heard really good things about the language. My question is, how (if at all) can Python compliment the skills of a typical C# developer working mainly with MS technologies on a Windows Platform. Some examples of typical C# dev on windows would be (SOA applications, web applications, windows services, automation, xml handling) Surely there must be some scenarios where knowing Python would help you get certain tasks done quicker or more efficiently than using traditional C# / MS technologies.   • Windows 7 Program Compatibility Assistant appeared for my app. Why?

    I have created a native application. It works without questions under Win XP and Win Vista. Under Win 7 my application installed fine. I ran it. It worked normally until i selected 'Exit' from menu. On exit "Program Compatibility Assistant" window appeared telling me my application is incompatible with Windows 7 and some compatibility settings was applied. My questions are: How can i know what my application did to trigger Program Compatibility Assistant? Is there any list of do's and dont's? Where can i look for compatibility settings applied to my application?

    A while ago I worked on a MS-SQL project and I remember a "IS IN" thing. I tried it on a MySQL project and it did not work. Is there an equivalent? Workaround? Here is the full query I am trying to run: SELECT * FROM product_product, product_viewhistory, product_xref WHERE ( (product_viewhistory.productId = product_xref.product_id_1 AND product_xref.product_id_2 = product_product.id) OR (product_viewhistory.productId = product_xref.product_id_2 AND product_xref.product_id_1 = product_product.id) ) AND product_product.id IS IN (SELECT DISTINCT pvh.productId FROM product_viewhistory AS pvh WHERE pvh.cookieId = :cookieId ORDER BY pvh.viewTime DESC LIMIT 10) AND product_viewhistory.cookieId = :cookieId AND product_product.outofstock='N' ORDER BY product_xref.hits DESC LIMIT 10 It's pretty big ... but the part I am interested in is: AND product_product.id IS IN (SELECT DISTINCT pvh.productId FROM product_viewhistory AS pvh WHERE pvh.cookieId = :cookieId ORDER BY pvh.viewTime DESC LIMIT 10) Which basically says I want the products to be in the "top 10" of that sub-query. How would you achieve that with MySQL (while trying to be efficient)?

Essentially, I'm wondering if there is a way to automatically pull data from multiple databases into a central repository that is continuously updated from the three databases and which can be used for reporting?     I'm trying to write a simple program to monitor a folder for new files in VB.NET 2010, and am having some trouble. Here's a simplified version of what my program looks like: Imports System.IO Public Class Main Public fileWatcher As FileSystemWatcher Sub btnGo_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnGo.Click '//# initialize my FileSystemWatcher to monitor a particular directory for new files fileWatcher = New FileSystemWatcher() fileWatcher.Path = thisIsAValidPath.ToString() fileWatcher.NotifyFilter = NotifyFilters.FileName AddHandler fileWatcher.Created, AddressOf fileCreated fileWatcher.EnableRaisingEvents = True End Sub Private Sub fileCreated(sender As Object, e As FileSystemEventArgs) '//# program does not exit when I comment the line below out txtLatestAddedFilePath.Text = e.FullPath '//# e.FullPath is valid when I set a breakpoint here, but when I step into the next line, the program abruptly halts with no error code that I can see End Sub End Class As you can see, I have a button which will initialize a FileSystemWatcher when clicked. The initialization works, and when I place a new file in the monitored directory, the program reaches the fileCreated sub. I can even see that e.FullPath is set correctly. However, it exits abruptly right after that with no error code (none that I can see, anyways). If I comment everything in the fileCreated sub out, the program continues running as expected. Any ideas as to why it's dying on me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm fairly new to VS/VB.NET, so maybe I'm just making a silly mistake. Thanks!

  • Resource grouping? people with the same skill?

    Let's say I have 4 people. Sometimes anyone can do a task, but sometimes they are specific. I would like to group people by skill. Is there any way I can do that? Right now, I have something like this: Resources: SkillA=3, GuyA=1, GuyB=1, GuyC=1 Task A <= SkillA Anyone can do it Task B <= SkillA, GuyB Only B can do it, but I also allocate the skill just to be sure I don't allocate more than 3 people at the same time. My problem with this approach is that sometimes GuyA is on holidays, but I can't reduce SkillA from 3 to 2 in that period.. Any tips?

Can I use a HTML/JS/CSS - C# combination with event handlers and all? Something like ASP.NET Webforms/MVC . I know it is not the same client server architecture, but since metro styled apps support HTML/JS, I was wondering. I can use Win-JS. But can I rather write C# than Javascript, and use HTML rather than XAML?(I dont know XAML and I like C#) All the C# samples I found online use XAML.

    Possible Duplicate: What hardware devices do you test your Android apps on? I'm trying to compile a list of Android hardware devices that it would make sense to buy and test against if you want to target an as broad audience as possible, while still not buying every single Android device out there. I know there's a lot of information regarding screen sizes and Android versions available elsewhere, but: when developing for Android it's not terribly useful to know if the screen size of a device is 480x800 or 320x240, unless you feel like doing the math to convert that into Android "units" (i.e. small, normal, large or xlarge screens, and ldpi, mdpi, hdpi or xhdpi densities). Even knowing the dimensions of a device, you cannot be sure of the actual Android units as there's some overlap, see Range of screens supported in the Android documentation Taking into account the distribution of Platform versions and Screen Sizes and Densities, below is my current list based on information from the Wikipedia article on Comparison of Android devices. I'm fairly sure the information in this list is correct, but I'd welcome any suggestions/changes.   • Visual Studio Folder Structure

    I am not sure how this works. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and I created a Class Library (say the name is Test). I also selected the option to create a folder for the solution. Following is the directory structure I get: Test - Test - bin - Debug - obj - Debug - Properties - AassemblyInfo.cs - Test.cs - Test.csproj - Test.sln - Test.suo This is default and I have no problems running my code this way. My querry is I see other solutions (class libraries) created in the Subversion by others before have a different structure. The structure for that is as follows: Test - .svn - lib - <<Reference 1>> - <<Reference 2>> - .... - <<Reference N>> - src - bin - Debug - obj - Debug - Properties - AassemblyInfo.cs - Test.cs - Test.csproj - Test.sln - Test.suo My query is how to create this structure? All the references to other projects are maintained in lib folder and source code is maintained in src folder. This is not the case happening with me. When I open the solution in Visual Studio, I cannot see any such folder like lib or src. It shows the same way as mine. Kindly help and forgive me for being so elaborative. Thanks

  • Why can't I create a templated sublcass of System::Collections::Generic::IEnumerable<T>?

    I want to create a generic IEnumerable implementation, to make it easier to wrap some native C++ classes. When I try to create the implementation using a template parameter as the parameter to IEnumerable, I get an error. Here's a simple version of what I came up with that demonstrates my problem: ref class A {}; template<class B> ref class Test : public System::Collections::Generic::IEnumerable<B^> // error C3225... {}; void test() { Test<A> ^a = gcnew Test<A>(); } On the indicated line, I get this error: error C3225: generic type argument for 'T' cannot be 'B ^', it must be a value type or a handle to a reference type If I use a different parent class, I don't see the problem: template<class P> ref class Parent {}; ref class A {}; template<class B> ref class Test : public Parent<B^> // no problem here {}; void test() { Test<A> ^a = gcnew Test<A>(); } I can work around it by adding another template parameter to the implementation type: ref class A {}; template<class B, class Enumerable> ref class Test : public Enumerable {}; void test() { using namespace System::Collections::Generic; Test<A, IEnumerable<A^>> ^a = gcnew Test<A, IEnumerable<A^>>(); } But this seems messy to me. Also, I'd just like to understand what's going on here - why doesn't the first way work?
