  • We have a Solaris 9 server running Oracle 10G and have been getting memory consumption errors for a few weeks now

    We recently upgraded our Enterprise application and everything worked ok until one weekend when we did a server reboot, ever since then we have run into memory errors. The server has 4GB of physical memory installed and the kernel parameters are set to the following (/etc/system). I'm not an Oracle guy so I'm not sure where to start looking but any informaiton is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. There are two databases running on this server, one is a production database and the other is a pre-production database.   • WebCenter Content (WCC) Trace Sections

    Kyle has a good post on how to modify the size and number of WebCenter Content (WCC) trace files. His post reminded me I have been meaning to write a post on WCC trace sections for a while. searchcache - Tells you if you query was found in the WCC search cache. searchquery - Shows the processing of the query as it is converted form what the user submitted to the end query that will be sent to the database. Shows conversion from the universal query syntax to the syntax specific to the search solution WCC is configured to use. services (verbose) - Lists the filters that are called for each service. This will let you know what filters are available for each service and will also tell you what filters are used by WCC add-on components and any custom components you have installed. The How To Component Sample has a list of filters, but it has not been updated since 7.5, so it is a little outdated now. With each new release WCC adds more filters. If you have a filter that has no code attached to it you will see output like this: services/6    09.25 06:40:26.270    IdcServer-423    Called filter event computeDocName with no filter plugins registered When a WCC add-on or custom component uses a filter you will see trace output like this: services/6    09.25 06:40:26.275    IdcServer-423    Calling filter event postValidateCheckinData on class collections.CollectionValidateCheckinData with parameter postValidateCheckinDataservices/6    09.25 06:40:26.275    IdcServer-423    Calling filter event postValidateCheckinData on class collections.CollectionFilters with parameter postValidateCheckinData As you can see from this sample output it is possible to have multiple code points using the same filter. systemdatabase - Dumps the database call AFTER it executes. This can be somewhat troublesome if you are trying to track down some weird database problems. We had a problem where WCC was getting into a deadlock situation. We turned on the systemdatabase trace section and thought we had the problem database call, but it turned out since it printed out the database call after it was executed we were looking at the database call BEFORE the one causing the deadlock. We ended up having to turn on tracing at the database level to see the database call WCC was making that was causing the deadlock. socketrequests (verbose) - dumps the actual messages received and sent over the socket connection by WCC for a service. If you have gzip enabled you will see junk on the response coming back from WCC. Includes information on the determination of what roles and accounts a user has access to. In 11g a new trace section, jps, was added with the addition of the JpsUserProvider to communicate with WebLogic Server. The WCC developers decide when to use the verbose option for their trace output, so sometime you need to try verbose to see what different information you get. One of the things I would always have liked to see if the ability to turn on verbose output selectively for individual trace sections. When you turn on verbose output you get it for all trace sections you have enabled. This can quickly fill up your trace files with a lot of information if you have the socket trace section turned on.

  • How to Hashtag (Without Being #Annoying)

    The right tool in the wrong hands can be a dangerous thing. Giving a chimpanzee a chain saw would not be a pretty picture. And putting Twitter hashtags in the hands of social marketers who were never really sure how to use them can be equally unattractive. Boiled down, hashtags are for search and organization of tweets. A notch up from that, they can also be used as part of a marketing strategy. In terms of search, if you’re in the organic apple business, you want anyone who searches “organic” on Twitter to see your posts about your apples. It’s keyword tactics not unlike web site keyword search tactics. So get a clear idea of what keywords are relevant for your tweet. It’s reasonable to include #organic in your tweet. Is it fatal if you don’t hashtag the word? It depends on the person searching. If they search “organic,” your tweet’s going to come up even if you didn’t put the hashtag in front of it. If the searcher enters “#organic,” your tweet needs the hashtag. Err on the side of caution and hashtag it so it comes up no matter how the searcher enters it. You’ll also want to hashtag it for the second big reason people hashtag, organization. You can follow a hashtag. So can the rest of the Twitterverse. If you’re that into organic munchies, you can set up a stream populated only with tweets hashtagged #organic. If you’ve established a hashtag for your brand, like #nobugsprayapples, you (and everyone else) can watch what people are tweeting about your company. So what kind of hashtags should you include? They should be directly related to the core message of your tweet. Ancillary or very loosely-related hashtags = annoying. Hashtagging your brand makes sense. Hashtagging your core area of interest makes sense. Creating a specific event or campaign hashtag you want others to include and spread makes sense (the burden is on you to promote it and get it going). Hashtagging nearly every word in the tweet is highly annoying. Far and away, the majority of hashtagged words in such tweets have no relevance, are not terms that would be searched, and are not terms needed for categorization. It looks desperate and spammy. Two is fine. One is better. And it is possible to tweet with --gasp-- no hashtags! Make your hashtags as short as you can. In fact, if your brand’s name really is #nobugsprayapples, you’re burning up valuable, limited characters and risking the inability of others to retweet with added comments. Also try to narrow your topic hashtag down. You’ll find a lot of relevant users with #organic, but a lot of totally uninterested users with #food. Just as you can join online forums and gain credibility and a reputation by contributing regularly to that forum, you can follow hashtagged topics and gain the same kind of credibility in your area of expertise. Don’t just parachute in for the occasional marketing message. And if you’re constantly retweeting one particular person, stop it. It’s kissing up and it’s obvious. Which brings us to the king of hashtag annoyances, “hashjacking.” This is when you see what terms are hot and include them in your marketing tweet as a hashtag, even though it’s unrelated to your content. Justify it all you want, but #justinbieber has nothing to do with your organic apples. Equally annoying, piggybacking on a popular event’s hashtag to tweet something not connected to the event. You’re only fostering ill will and mistrust toward your account from the people you’ve tricked into seeing your tweet. Lastly, don’t @ mention people just to make sure they see your tweet. If the tweet’s not for them or about them, it’s spammy. What I haven’t covered is use of the hashtag for comedy’s sake. You’ll see this a lot and is a matter of personal taste. No one will search these hashtagged terms or need to categorize then, they’re just there for self-expression and laughs.     Getting Started with ADF Mobile Sample Apps   Installation Steps Install JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0 from Oracle Technology Network After installing JDeveloper, go to Help menu and select "Check For Updates" and find the ADF Mobile extension and install this. It will require you restart JDeveloper For iOS development, be on a Mac and have Xcode installed. (Currently only Xcode 4.4 is officially supported. Xcode 4.5 support is coming soon) For Android development, have the Android SDK installed. In the JDeveloper Tools menu, select "Preferences". In the Preferences dialog, select ADF Mobile. You can expand it to select configure your Platform preferences for things like the location of Xcode and the Android SDK. In your /jdeveloper/jdev/extensions/oracle.adf.mobile/Samples folder you will find a PublicSamples.zip. Unzip this into the Samples folder so you have all the projects ready to go. Open each of the sample application's .JWS file to open the corresponding workspace. Then from the "Application" menu, select "Deploy" and then select the deployment profile for the platform you wish to deploy to. Try deploying to the simulator/emulator on each platform first because it won't require signing. Note: If you wish to deploy to the Android emulator, it must be running before you start the deployment.   Sample Application Details   Recommended Order of Use Application Name Description 1 HelloWorld The "hello world" application for ADF Mobile, which demonstrates the basic structure of the framework. This basic application has a single application feature that is implemented with a local HTML file. Use this application to ascertain that the development environment is set up correctly to compile and deploy an application. See also Section 4.2.2, "What Happens When You Create an ADF Mobile Application." 2 CompGallery This application is meant to be a runtime application and not necessarily to review the code, though that is available. It serves as an introduction to the ADF Mobile AMX UI components by demonstrating all of these components. Using this application, you can change the attributes of these components at runtime and see the effects of those changes in real time without recompiling and redeploying the application after each change. See generally Chapter 8, "Creating ADF Mobile AMX User Interface." 3 LayoutDemo This application demonstrates the user interface layout and shows how to create the various list and button styles that are commonly used in mobile applications. It also demonstrates how to create the action sheet style of a popup component and how to use various chart and gauge components. See Section 8.3, "Creating and Using UI Components" and Section 8.5, "Providing Data Visualization." Note: This application must be opened from the Samples directory or the Default springboard option must be cleared in the Applications page of the adfmf-application.xml overview editor, then selected again. 4 JavaDemo This application demonstrates how to bind the user interface to Java beans.   • Access/update Telerik RadGrid item values in code-behind before ODS event handler

    Hi there, I need to update some of the values of the item being edited in my code-behind based on some values in a custom Edit Form on our Rad Grid. Can I access the item (and update some values) from one of the Grid's event handlers? Currently I'm storing the values in temporary variables and then injecting the new values in the ObjectDataSource's Inserting/Updating event handlers, but it would be much nicer if I could do it all in one spot. (I can't do it all in the ObjectDataSource event handlers as I can't access the controls inside my Grid's Edit Form.) I've been playing with the ExtractValues and UpdateValues methods of the GridEditableItem object, but I'm not having any luck. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

  • Textbox OnTextChanged and Button Click Event Not Firing

    I have textboxes being generated by a repeater that use OnTextChanged with autopostback enabled so that I can know when when the values change. This all works perfect. The problem starts when I try to click on any buttons on the page. The loss of focus triggers the event for the OnTextChanged; however, the event for my buttons never get fired. I checked this in the debugger and while debugging if I put a break-point in the page_load it will call both; however, without the break-point it still only calls the OnTextChanged event. I found this post on JavaScript. If my problem is also JavaScript related, why does the clicking of the button fire in debug mode? Thanks.

  • Delphi 2010 buttons losing click event

    I've been experimenting a quite strange problem using Delphi 2010. In one form (a quite complex one) some buttons are automagically losing the click event. I am not dynamically assigning the event or something (they are wired in IDE). The events are fired OK some times but suddenly (and randomly) some of them don't fire the events anymore. Placing a break point in the event doesn't stop the execution. Weird, yes, and I'm lost. I know there is no explanation for this so I only want to ask if there is anybody else experimenting the same problem.

    I'm trying to unit test a private method that I have attached to my FileSystemWatcher's Error event. MSDN says that this event "occurs when the internal buffer overflows." I've tried to cause a buffer overflow but have not been successful so far. The FileSystemWatcher's various properties are: fileWatcher.IncludeSubdirectories = false; fileWatcher.Filter = "*"; fileWatcher.NotifyFilter = (NotifyFilters.FileName | NotifyFilters.LastAccess | NotifyFilters.Size); What is the best way of raising this event for the purpose of unit-testing?

  • Rename "Event" object in jQuery FullCalendar plug-in

    GREAT PLUGIN!!! BUT... choice of word "Event" to mean a "calendar entry" was particularly unfortunate This is a wonderfully well-written plug in, and I've really impressed people here at work with what this thing can do. The documentation is astonishingly thorough and clear. Congratulations to Adam! HOWEVER, this plug-in refers to entries in the calendar as "Events" -- this has caused a lot of confusion in my development team's conversations, because when we use the word "Event" we think of things like onmouseover, click, etc. We would really prefer a term like CalendarEvent or CalendarEntry. I am not all that experienced with jQuery yet, so am wondering if there is a simple way to alias one of those terms to this plug-in's Event/Events object? (I know we could recode the plug-in directly, but our code will then break when we download an update.) Thanks!

But when I fire the function event from a Onclick Button the result is perfect but when I fire the same function event on the page load of the ReportViewer ..I do not get the result. About function , i am creating dataset, and adapter with Sqlquery from runtime passing the parameter value from a session in the query and binding the data to the labels. But as I said I want the result on the pageload event of the reportviewer.

    I don't have an iPad yet to find this out; have had only a brief opportunity to look at one at the Apple store. Could someone please describe what, if anything, happens to the mouseOver event of an image-map area when the image-map|area has had user-select disabled with "webkit-user-select: none" in the CSS, as described here in section 5: http://developer.apple.com/safari/library/technotes/tn2010/tn2262/index.html When a finger tip is placed on the image-map area and held there (i.e.not a tap) is the mouseOver eventhandler invoked under those circumstances? Or does nothing happen other than the image-map area doesn't change color because it's now unselectable? In my brief experience with the iPad at the Apple store, when user-select is not disabled, and the image-map area has a mouseOver eventhandler, a tap fires the mouseOver event rather than the click event.     I'm getting an 'UnauthorizedAccesExpection - Invalid cross-thread access' exception when I try to raise a PropertyChanged event from within a subscription to an IObservable collection created through Observable.Interval(). With my limited threading knowledge I'm assuming that the interval is happening on some other thread while the event wants to happen on the UI thread??? An explanation of the problem would be very useful.     Hi, I need to do the following: In Crm, you have serviceappointments (serviceactivities). 1 appointment can have a state, ( like arrived, pending, closed, ... ). When i save the form (onsave event), It should catch if the form is putted closed state and then it should do something. I can get the state easily: alert(crmForm.all.statuscode.DataValue) I hanged this onto an onsave event. But when i put a serviceappointment into closed state, it first calls the onsave event with previous state and then puts it in closed state. Is it possible to catch if it's putted in closed state?

  • Flex Datagrid editing cells in same row not firing collection change event

    Hi, I am using the flex datagrid to allow the user to edit some data. My update process relies on a CollectionEvent of type update. Basically I catch this event package the values and update the database. However, if the user edits a cell then moves to edit a cell in the same row the value is updated but a collection event is not fired. Only when clicking out of the row the event is fired. Has anyone had experience with this. I have heard the datagrid is a little quirky is this one of those quirks or am I doing this all wrong? Any help appreciated.
