  • How can I access windows file preview icons from my WPF application

    I got a bunch of Pictures and Videos in a directory and needs to be displayed in the WPF application, I am thinking about displaying the Win7 Large Icon itself as the preview image. Because that will save me the work of grabbing an appropriate frame from the video file since Windows is doing that job pretty well already. Any code snippet to access this Shell Icon image data?

  • Problems with 5.1 digital out on Ubuntu 12.04

    I've recently bought a new PC, installed Ubuntu and am now unable to get 5.1 digital sound working. Simple analogue stereo works fine on both the front and rear connectors. On my old box I connected the coax connection from my soundcard to my surround sound amplifier, set Settings-Sound to "Digital Stereo Duplex" and it worked. My old soundcard doesn't fit in my new machine so I'm using the built-in sound hardware. I'm connecting the combination output socket on the back of the PC via the same cable to my surround amp as before. The MB is an MSI Global H61M-P31 with an RealTek ALC887 sound chip. When I go to Settings-Sound I only see "Headphone Built-in Audio" and "Analogue Output Built-in Audio" - no digitial options.   • Server Crash Diagnosis...Are there any 'black box recorder' style programs available.

    My redhat server is crashing every three weeks or so at 4:15am ish on Sunday mornings. (well it was sundays the last two have been Thursday mornings at 4:15ish) Looking at the logs (mysql, httpd, messages) there are no clues as to why. They just seem to stop. I ran a little script to take memory readings every 15 minutes and it too stops (with normal readings) at this time. The server is remote at a provider so I can only access it via the web. I use Plesk. It appears to be a set job or something that is causing the issue. I can see nothing in crontab. So my question is...has anyone else had this and can offer advice? Failing that. Does any one know of a way to get more detailed logging than that offered by the messages file? I was thinking of a black box style recording program or maybe something as simple as an option somewhere to increase the level of reporting in the messages log. Thanks

    I'm using JQuery and Prototype in this web application that I'm developing. I'm looking for a way to use Lightbox v2.04 by Lokesh Dhakar to play flash movies. If its not possible using the Lightbox v2.04 then what other ways can I accomplish the shadowing overlayed flash video pop-up with jquery and/or Prototype? The reason I'm set on v2.04 is because I'm using it already as an image gallery. I'm using flv type flash files if that helps.

    Whenever I come across a cute website, I am always curious to know which web framework was used by its developers? Being a novice in web development, a look at the page source doesn't give any clue. Any way(s) to get this information? If possible, may be with a bit of Ruby magic, I can figure out things like: which is the most/least used framework for my favorite sites, audio/video heavy sites, etc.

For example I want every morming at 8:00 the program open a particular mp3 file. But suposse, by mistake, that I on my computer and 9:00, then I want that the program rememberme what I planned to open at 8:00. Show me the program as an active windows on my desktop. The windows of the program opened is what the user is seeing (Is at the first place in the desktop) and the rest of the program windows are below. Close programs or files in my own computer at a planned time. For example I want that the program mp3 file that was opened at 8:00 was closed at 10:00 if at that time still be opened. Detection of events. For instance If I open particular videogame program. then a mp3 file (with a recording message arguing why I shouldn´t continue playing that videogame at work time) is opened. But it throws an "IllegalArgumentException - container should be canvas" like that. How to solve the issue?

  • Scraping data from Flash (Games)

    I saw this video, and I am really curious how it was performed. Does anyone have any ideas? My intuition is that he scraped pixels from the screen (one per 'box'), and then fed that into some program to determine the next move. Is scraping pixel-by-pixel the way to do this, or is there a better way? I am looking to do something similar with either Java or Python. Thanks

  • What are the IR codes the new Apple Remote (alu) uses?

    I would like to clone the new Apple Remote (infrared, second generation, aluminium) just for fun with a microcontroller. Most codes of the previous model can be found in the LIRC remote control database (all except the key combinations menu + <<,play, which unpair, change ID, pair the remote. I also don't know which bit encodes the battery status. It uses a modified 32 bit NEC protocol (reverse LIRC codes bytewise). But the new Apple remote uses two additional codes for the play and the new select button. I don't have a mac, so I can't brute force test codes either ;-) So if someone possesses such a remote and the ability of recording those two new buttons and three combinations I'd really appreciate it. If you can't run LIRC (or it gets confused by the new codes) and you don't have an oscilloscope or logic analyser, maybe you could hook up a photo diode to your sound input and record the codes with Audacity? Just hit record, hit each button and combo a few times, hit stop, upload the uncompressed WAV file to a sharing site, done. That'd be great!

    I have used a hdmi cable to connect my lcd (which is connected with my speakers) with my nvida 275 gtx grafic card. I can not get the sound output to work. The hardware itself is working probably - I tested it under windows. Currently I am running Kubuntu 9.10 64 with Nvidia 190.53. The sound output worked fine before I installed the hdmi connection. I am using c++ in visual studio 2008. Is it possible to get a debugger attached to the filter in any way where I could set break points, inspect variables, etc?   • Is there a way to split a widescreen monitor in to two or more virtual monitors?

    Like most developers I have grown to love dual monitors. I won't go into all the reasons for their goodness; just take it as a given. However, they are not perfect. You can never seem to line them up "just right". You always end up with the monitors at slight funny angles. And of course the bezel always gets in the way. And this is with identical monitors. The problem is much worse with different monitors -- VMWare's multi monitor feature won't even work with monitors of differnt resolutions. When you use multiple monnitors, one of them becomes your primary monitor of focus. Your focus may flip from one monitor to the other, but at any point in time you are usually focusing on only one monitor. There are exceptions to this (WinDiff, Excel), but this is generally the case. I suggest that having a single large monitor with all the benefits of multiple smaller monitors would be a better solution. Wide screen monitors are fantastic, but it is hard to use all the space efficiently. If you are writing code you are generally working on the left-hand side of the window. If you maximize an editor on a wide-screen monitor the right-hand side of the window will be a sea of white. Programs like WinSplit Revolution will help to organise your windows, but this is really just addressing the symptom, not the problem. Even with WinSplit Revolution, when you maximise a window it will take up the whole screen. You can't lock a window into a specific section of the screen. This is where virtual monitors comes in. What would be really nice is a video driver that sits on top of the existing driver, but allows a single monitor to be virtualised into multiple monitors. Control Panel would see your single physical monitor as two or more virtual monitors. The software could even support a virtual bezel to emphasise what is happening, or you could opt for seamless mode. Programs like WinSplit Revolution and UltraMon would still work. This virtual video driver would allow you to slice & dice your physical monitor into as many virtual monitors as you want. Does anybody know if such software exists? If not, are there any budding Windows display driver guru's out there willing to take up the challenge? I am not after the myriad of virtual desktop/window manager programs that are available. I get frustrated with these programs. They seem good at first but they usually have some strange behaviour and don't work well with other programs (such as WinSplit Revolution). I want the real thing!
