  • jQuery / Javascript if statement speed

    - by Sam
    Given: var isIE = $.browser.msie && !$.support.opacity, isIE6 = isIE && $.browser.version < 7; Which would be faster: if(isIE6){ doSomething(); } else { doSomethingElse(); } OR if(!isIE6){ doSomethingElse(); } else { doSomething(); } Are they exactly the same in terms of speed?

  • Jquery toggle with two elements

    - by Jesse
    I am using a toggle on a graphic to slide out a contact form. The problem is, the contact form can cover up the graphic element on low resolutions. I thought a solution would be to include a "close this" inside the form, that would use the same toggle effect. When I add the close this element to the code, instead of working in tandem with the original graphic element, it starts the chain back over, and slides the contact form even further out. Site is here: http://www.tritonloyaltysupport.com/status Code for toggle here: $(this).html(div_form); //show / hide function $('div.contactable').toggle( function() { $('#overlay').css({display: 'block'}); $('#contactForm').animate({"marginRight": "-=0px"}, "fast"); $('#contactForm').animate({"marginRight": "+=390px"}, "slow"); }, function() { $('#contactForm').animate({"marginRight": "-=390px"}, "slow"); $('#overlay').css({display: 'none'}); } );

  • jQuery: inherit functions to several objects

    - by Fuxi
    hi, i made several table-based-widgets (listview-kind-of) which all have the same characteristics: styling odd/even rows, hover on/off, set color onClick, deleting a row when clicking on trash-icon. so it's always the same (prototype-)code for each widget. is there a way to have the code only once then simply apply/inherit it to all widgets? 2nd, here's some of the code - could this be optimized? var me = this; $("tr",this.table).each(function(i) { var tr = $(this); tr.bind("mouseover",function(){me.hover(tr,true)}); tr.bind("mouseout",function(){me.hover(tr,false)}); tr.bind("click",function(){me.Click(tr)}); }); $("tr").filter(":odd").addClass("odd");

  • Swap image with jquery and show zoom image

    - by Neil Bradley
    Hi there, On my site I have 4 thumbnail product images that when clicked on swap the main image. This part is working okay. However, on the main image I'm also trying to use the jQZoom script. The zoom script works for the most part, except that the zoomed image always displays the zoom of the first image, rather than the one selected. This can be seen in action here; http://www.wearecapital.com/productdetails-new.asp?id=6626 I was wondering if someone might be able to suggest a solution? My code for the page is here; <% if session("qstring") = "" then session("qstring") = "&amp;rf=latest" maxProducts = 6 prodID = request("id") if prodID = "" or not isnumeric(prodid) then response.Redirect("listproducts.asp?err=1" & session("qstring")) else prodId = cint(prodId) end if SQL = "Select * from products,subcategories,labels where subcat_id = prod_subcategory and label_id = prod_label and prod_id = " & prodID set conn = server.CreateObject("ADODB.connection") conn.Open(Application("DATABASE")) set rs = conn.Execute(SQL) if rs.eof then ' product is not valid name = "Error - product id " & prodID & " is not available" else image1 = rs.fields("prod_image1") image1Desc = rs.fields("prod_image1Desc") icon = rs.fields("prod_icon") subcat = rs.fields("prod_subcategory") image2 = rs.fields("prod_image2") image2Desc = rs.fields("prod_image2Desc") image3 = rs.fields("prod_image3") image3Desc = rs.fields("prod_image3Desc") image4 = rs.fields("prod_image4") image4Desc = rs.fields("prod_image4Desc") zoomimg = rs.Fields("prod_zoomimg") zoomimg2 = rs.Fields("prod_zoomimg2") zoomimg3 = rs.Fields("prod_zoomimg3") zoomimg4 = rs.Fields("prod_zoomimg4") thumb1 = rs.fields("prod_preview1").value thumb2 = rs.fields("prod_preview2").value thumb3 = rs.fields("prod_preview3").value thumb4 = rs.fields("prod_preview4").value end if set rs = nothing conn.Close set conn = nothing %> <!-- #include virtual="/includes/head-product.asp" --> <body id="detail"> <!-- #include virtual="/includes/header.asp" --> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> function switchImg(imgName) { var ImgX = document.getElementById("mainimg"); ImgX.src="/images/products/" + imgName; } </script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ var options = { zoomWidth: 466, zoomHeight: 260, xOffset: 34, yOffset: 0, title: false, position: "right" //and MORE OPTIONS }; $(".MYCLASS").jqzoom(options); }); </script> <!-- #include virtual="/includes/nav.asp" --> <div id="column-left"> <div id="main-image"> <% if oldie = false then %><a href="/images/products/<%=zoomimg%>" class="MYCLASS" title="MYTITLE"><img src="/images/products/<%=image1%>" title="IMAGE TITLE" name="mainimg" id="mainimg" style="width:425px; height:638px;" ></a><% end if %> </div> </div> <div id="column-right"> <div id="altviews"> <h3 class="altviews">Alternative Views</h3> <ul> <% if oldie = false then writeThumb thumb1,image1,zoomimg,image1desc writeThumb thumb2,image2,zoomimg2,image2desc writeThumb thumb3,image3,zoomimg3,image3desc writeThumb thumb4,image4,zoomimg4,image4desc end if %> </ul> </div> </div> <!-- #include virtual="/includes/footer-test.asp" --> <% sub writeThumb(thumbfile, imgfile, zoomfile, thumbdesc) response.Write "<li>" if thumbfile <> "65/default_preview.jpg" and thumbfile <> "" and not isnull(thumbfile) then if imgFile <> "" and not isnull(imgfile) then rimgfile = replace(imgfile,"/","//") else rimgfile = "" if thumbdesc <> "" and not isnull(thumbdesc) then rDescription = replace(thumbdesc,"""","&quot;") else rDescription = "" response.write "<img src=""/images/products/"& thumbfile &""" style=""cursor: pointer"" border=""0"" style=""width:65px; height:98px;"" title="""& rDescription &""" onclick=""switchImg('" & rimgfile & "')"" />" & vbcrlf else response.write "<img src=""/images/products/65/default_preview.jpg"" alt="""" />" & vbCrLF end if response.write "</li>" & vbCrLF end sub %>

  • IE AJAX/Jquery issue - redirecting to new page instead of loading it into a div

    - by phx-zs
    I have a page like this: <form class="ajax" method="post" action="add_item.php"> [text input] [submit button] </form> [list any items the user has in a div here called #items] When the user clicks the submit button, a function like this is called: $("form.ajax").live('submit', function(event) { params = $(this).serialize(); $.post($(this).attr("action"), params, function(data){ json = $.parseJSON(data); // do stuff based on the json results if(json.success.action == 'replace'){ $(json.success.container).html(json.success.message); } else{ $(json.success.container).prepend(json.success.message); $(json.success.container).find(".item:first").slideDown(); } }); event.returnValue = false; return false; }); This is supposed to load add_item.php into the #items div, and it works fine in FF, Chrome, Safari, just not IE. In IE (tested 7 and 8) when I click Submit it redirects the page to add_item.php rather than loading it into the #items div. I tried adding event.preventDefault(); to the end of the function but that didn't work. Any ideas?

  • Can I write this JQuery statement cleaner?

    - by Polaris878
    Hello, So I have the following: var box = $(".MyCheckBox"); if (box[0].checked) { // Do something } else { // Do something else } Is there a better way of doing this using filters or something? I know I can go: $(".MyCheckBox") .filter(function(index) { return this.checked; }) .each(function() { // do something }); But I need to do something in the else statement... easier way of doing this? Thanks!

  • jQuery Running a function in a context and adding to a variable

    - by Mark
    For this question I'm going to give a simplified example of what I want to do, and the function I want to learn to write. var collection = ''; <div id='container'> <span>1</span> <span>2</span> <span>3</span> </div> What I want to do this, for every span in the div, take its text, add it to the collection. So ideally it would look like: $('#container').addtoCollection(collection); The method would be something like: $(this).find('span').each(function () { collection = collection + $(this).text(); }). Where the first this would equal #container. So in the end you can do: console.log(collection); and get: 123 How do I write the function that does this? Thanks!

  • jQuery - get form elements by container id

    - by ungarida
    Which is the easiest way to get all form elements which are contained by a wrapper element. <form name="myForm"> <input name="elementA" /> <div id="wrapper"> <input name="elementB" /> <textarea name="elementC" /> </div> </form> In the above HTML I would elementB and elementC but not elementA. I do not want to list all form element types (select,textarea,input,option...). I would prefer to use myForm.elements. Any ideas?

    When load the new html from a post function I lose all of my click bindings. I read that i could use live to keep all the bindings but can't find any examples where live is used with post. • Need of optimized code for hide and show div in jQuery

    - by novellino
    Hello, I have a div: <div id="p1" class="img-projects" style="margin-left:0;"> <a href="project1.php"> <img src="image1.png"/></a> <div id="p1" class="project-title">Bar Crawler</div> </div> On mouse-over I want to add an image with opacity and make the project-title shown. So I use this code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $('.project-title').hide(); $('#p1.img-projects img').mouseover( function() { $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 0.3 }, 800); $('#p1.project-title').fadeIn(500); }); $('#p1.img-projects img').mouseout( function() { $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 1.0 }, 800); $('#p1.project-title').fadeOut(); }); $('#p2.img-projects img').mouseover( function() { $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 0.3 }, 800); $('#p2.project-title').fadeIn(500); }); $('#p2.img-projects img').mouseout( function() { $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 1.0 }, 800); $('#p2.project-title').fadeOut(); }); }); </script> The code works fine but does anyone know a way to optimize my code?   • jQuery fadeOut() function doesn't ALWAYS work in Chrome, Firefox, IE

    - by user365568
    Sometimes, the slideshow on my website, which uses fadeOut and fadeIn to cycle through three main images, will fadeIn a new photo without fading in the old one. This doesn't happen every time the page loads though. My site is here (the slideshow will take 7 seconds to change): http://codersarepeople.com/v2/ The code I use is this: slideshow = new Array('#slideshow1','#slideshow2','#slideshow3'); var i = Math.floor(Math.random()*3); $(slideshow[i]).fadeIn(125); var t = setInterval(function() { $(slideshow[i%3]).fadeOut(250,function() { $(slideshow[(i+1)%3]).fadeIn(250); }); i++; },7000);

    I have an INPUT text box. As someone types into the INPUT text box, i need it to append/add-to a TEXTAREA value. Lets say user types '12345' into the text box. The textarea (default value="Comment: ") will automatically add: 'Comment: 12345'. Adding '12345' as they type.

  • C#: Perform Operations on GPU, not CPU (Calculate Pi)

    - by Alex
    Hello, I've recently read a lot about software (mostly scientific/math and encryption related) that moves part of their calculation onto the GPU which causes a 100-1000 (!) fold increase in speed for supported operations. Is there a library, API or other way to run something on the GPU via C#? I'm thinking of simple Pi calculation. I have a GeForce 8800 GTX if that's relevant at all (would prefer card independent solution though). Any hints are appreciated!

  • jQuery animation loop not working

    - by Marko Ivanovski
    Hi, I'm trying to create a looping animation that starts on onmousedown and stops on onmouseout. The effect is a simple scroll that will continue looping until you release the mouse. I've created a function which performs the .animate method and it passes itself as a callback but the code only runs once. Here's the entire code: $(document).ready(function() { var $scroller = $("#scroller"); var $content = $("#content", $scroller); // lineHeight equal to 1 line of text var lineHeight = $content.css('line-height'); //Amount to scroll = 3 lines of text a time var amountToScroll = lineHeight.replace("px","")*3; var maxScroll = $content.height() - $scroller.height(); function scrollDown() { var topCoord = $content.css("top").replace("px",""); if(topCoord > -maxScroll) { if((-maxScroll-topCoord) > -amountToScroll) { $content.stop().animate({ top: -maxScroll }, 1000 ); } else { $content.stop().animate({ top: "-=" + amountToScroll }, 1000, function(){ scrollDown() } ); } } } function scrollUp() { var topCoord = $content.css("top").replace("px",""); if(topCoord < 0) { if(topCoord > -amountToScroll) { $content.stop().animate({ top: 0 }, 1000 ); } else { $content.stop().animate({ top: "+=" + amountToScroll }, 1000, function(){scrollUp()} ); } } } $("#scroll-down").mousedown(function() { scrollDown(); }); $("#scroll-down").mouseup(function() { $content.stop(); }); $("#scroll-up").mousedown(function() { scrollUp(); }); $("scroll-up").mouseup(function() { $content.stop(); }); });

  • Background Image Overlapped Problem with jQuery

    - by Devyn
    Hi, Here is my working page. I attached buttons to white bishop and you can move around but left images are overlapped by right images. I think the problem is with CSS. The brief structure is here. <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#top').click(function(){ $('#p81').animate({top: "-=64px"}, 100); }); </script> <style> div.chess_board{ height: 512px; position: relative; width: 512px; } div.chess_square{ height:64px; position: absolute; width:64px; } div.chess_square.white { background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #ffffff; } . . . div.chess_piece{ background-image: url("sprite.png"); height: 64px; width: 64px; position: absolute; } div.chess_piece.bishot.white{ background-position: -64px 0; } </style> <div class="chess_board"> <div id="b81" class="chess_square white" style="top: 448px; left: 64px;"> <div class="chess_square_inner"></div> <div id="p81" class="chess_piece bishot white"></div> </div> </div> <input type="button" id="top" value="top" />

  • jQuery: Find the text of a list item that contains a nested ul

    - by ScottE
    I have the following: <ul id="list"> <li>item1 <ul> <li>sub1</li> <li>sub2</li> </ul> </li> </ul> I'd like to respond to a li click event and use the text of the li elsewhere. However, if the click is on an li that contains a nested ul, I of course get the text of all elements. $("#list li").click(function() { alert($(this).text()); }); returns item1sub1sub2, as expected. I can't figure out how to get just 'item1' if the item 1 li is clicked. I tried the following (among other things) with no luck: $("#list li").click(function() { alert($(this).filter("ul").text()); }); Any ideas? EDIT This is a snippet of an example - it could be multiple levels deep. I also do not want to wrap the list item text in a span or other markup.
