  • Auto refresh of page in Rails 3 using javascript

    I have a view in my rails app: blah.app/units/status This displays a status of all my units. I'd like to have the page automatically refresh via javascript but I'm not sure how to do it. I tried writing this but it doesn't reload: <script> $(function() { setInterval(function(){ $.getScript("/units/status"); }, 10000); }); </script> Can someone point out where I'm going wrong here?

    Hi guys i am trying to modify this code here. $(document).ready(function() { var randomImages = ['img-1','img-2','img-3','img-4']; var rndNum = Math.floor(Math.random() * randomImages.length); $("div#bg-image").css({ background: "url(http://example.com/images/" + randomImages[rndNum] + ".jpg) no-repeat" }); }); This works fine and gives me a random image each time which is great but what i need is for the image to increment +1 each time on page refresh. This is because sometimes i can refresh 3 times and will still get the same image show when using Math.random(). I need to cancel the random and set +1 each time. Any help

    I have three questions about three nested loops: for (int x=0; x<400; x++) { for (int y=0; y<300; y++) { for (int z=0; z<400; z++) { // compute and store value } } } And I need to store all computed values. My standard approach would be to use a 3D-array: values[x][y][z] = 1; // test value but this turns out to be slow: it takes 192 ms to complete this loop, where a single int-assignment int value = 1; // test value takes only 66 ms. 1) Why is an array so relatively slow? 2) And why does it get even slower when I put this in the inner loop: values[z][y][x] = 1; // (notice x and z switched) This takes more than 4 seconds! 3) Most importantly: Can I use a data structure that is as quick as the assignment of a single integer, but can store as much data as the 3D-array?

    I have a private LinkedList in a Java class & will frequently need to retrieve the last element in the list. The lists need to scale, so I'm trying to decide whether I need to keep a reference to the last element when I make changes (to achieve O(1)) or if the LinkedList class does that already with the getLast() call. What is the big-O cost of LinkedList.getLast() and is it documented? (i.e. can I rely on this answer or should I make no assumptions & cache it even if it's O(1)?)

My action method expects a @car.CarType for that specific car hyperlink to be sent to it

  • Coordinating 3 instances of Cycle on one page

    I have 3 images, all same size, across top of page horizontally. I'd like to use Cycle to fade each instance very slowly, but I'd also like make sure the transitions do not start all at the same time, but are staggered. Is there somewhere this can be specified? If anyone can recommend a very slow fade rate, plus a way to prevent all 3 from fading/regenerating at the same time, I'd be very grateful! I assume I can run 3 instances of cycle using different classes for each container, and assure that no two photos are the same by "stacking" them in different orders within the divs ... yes?     Hi everybody, I'm decommissioning a meeting room scheduling [web] tool in favor of the same Outlook's functionality. I'd like, however, to publish (read-only) a "Group Schedule" view in a web page. To make the idea more clear: On Outlook's Calendar view, select Actions / View Group Schedules and then create a new group for say, Conference Rooms.   • Read external HTML page and then find data within

    I'm playing around with an idea, and I'm stuck at this one part. I want to read an external HTML page and then extract the data held within two <dd> tags. I've been using file_get_contents with good results, but I'm at a loss as to how to accomplish that last part. The two tags I want to extract the value from are always enclosed within a particular <div>, was wondering if that might help? In my mind it reads the entire html file into a string, then dumps all the data up until this one particular <div>, and dumps all the data after the closing </div>. Is that possible? I think this needs regex syntax which I've never used yet. So any tips, links, or examples would be great! I can provide more info as necessary.

    While optimizing a function in PHP, I changed if(is_array($obj)) foreach($obj as $key=$value { [snip] } else if(is_object($obj)) foreach($obj as $key=$value { [snip] } to if($obj == (array) $obj) foreach($obj as $key=$value { [snip] } else if($obj == (obj) $obj) foreach($obj as $key=$value { [snip] } After learning about ===, I changed that to if($obj === (array) $obj) foreach($obj as $key=$value { [snip] } else if($obj === (obj) $obj) foreach($obj as $key=$value { [snip] } Changing each test from is_* to casting resulted in a major speedup (30%). I understand that === is faster than == as no coercion has to be done, but why is casting the variable so much faster than calling any of the is_*-functions?

  • Detecting when Javascript is performing poorly

    I'm working on a webapp in jquery that, on older machines or machines without much resources, may perform poorly. To get around this I'd like to make a degraded version that disables some of the features, particularly those that rely on large images. How can I tell if my app is running poorly on the user's computer in jquery or javascript in general? I just need a way to call a function that will degrade the app. (especially when the user may run low on system memory) The only way I can think of is for manual user intervention, but the option would add clutter for users that don't need it and users that do need it may not notice it. I'm writing an webinterface in codeigniter to send commands to a virtual server. these commands are passed through the browser in an url. example : http://server.com/TgtSendIRCommand?id=UM-02&code=KEY_UP this server then takes action and the web interface refreshes the screenshot. i just want to have a bunch of links in html that send this command to the browser. But if i click the links, the user has to stay on the same page. So the command is sended but there is no other interaction. i am using codeigniter. Any suggestions ?

For a user control with lots of database activity, I would like to use jQuery to set the selected values of all of the dropdowns to their "current" value. I want to do this to make the page appear to have finished the database call. My jQuery skill is not the best, but I believe I need to use the pageLoad(). And since each dropdown is inside of a user control I can search for those dropdowns beginning with "usrControl" $('select[id ^="usrControl"'].each(function(){ var selectedValue = $(this).val() $(this).val(selectedValue) }); Something like this is what I have in mind.   • Legal Issue: Remove/Hide links on Google Login page

    For the background: I'm developing a device application which offers connection to Google Drive. My end-users will need to login to their Google Account and authorize my application to access their Google Drive. I'm using OAuth 2.0 to do this. But my concern is that I don't want users to navigate away from my application using the links on the Google Login page. Basically, I don't want them to use my application to browse the internet. Question: Will I violate any terms of service/usage if I hide or change the href the links using GreaseMonkey or TamperMonkey? The changes will only be on the client side and I won't alter any processing at all. I already checked https://developers.google.com/terms/ but I found no item related to modifying the pages on client side. Thanks in advance.

  • Is it possible to put a form control on its own thread?

    I'm using a DataGridView and some operations that I do cause it to become unresponsive for periods of time. Normally I would put data processing in its own thread to make the form more responsive, but in this case it's the DataGridView itself that's taking so long. This leads me to wonder whether it's possible to have the main form on one thread and the DataGridView on another thread so it doesn't prevent the main form from responding. I completely understand that doing so is probably not 'safe' and likely opens up a can of worms that makes it hardly worth trying and I fully expect this post will be getting down votes for merely suggesting such a ridiculous idea. Is this possible? And if so how would you go about it?
