• Java file delete on NFS drive

  Hey guys. I am trying to delete a file on a NFS drive. I have had other problems manipulating files on remote drives such as moving a file - however i got around it by not using the conventional method i.e renameFile but instead properly using input and output streams. However using the File.delete() returns false , and I have heard suggestions on using the apache commons io FileUtils class - however it just throws an IO exception. Does anybody have any suggestions on a way to delete a file on a network mounted drive using java? Thanks

• .gitignore not working for me

  Hi, I'm trying to create a new git repository from existing folder. I've created a .gitignore file in the root of the folder. But if I say 'git add *' 'git commit' 'git push' files that should be ignored still get commited to the remote repository. I'm on Windows. Also I've bought a license for SmartGIT. It also seems to ignore .gitignore. I have to manually select which new files to commit. What am I doing wrong?

  I am looking to create an incoming email daemon switchboard that I can integrate with various remote php/mysql apps. Ideally I want to check the 'to' address to see if it is in a mysql database and if it is, have the email parsed and posted via CURL to a target destination as well as have attachments saved somewhere locally. I will likely set up a rackspace cloud server dedicated to this task (just accepting emails and posting to 3rd party APIs). However, I do not know where to start. Which server platform / distribution should I go with? Which software needs to be customized, etc?

  My name is Dimas and I work as a developer in a hospital. I've developed a web form with JQuery Mobile which is accessed from an Android tablet. It sends data (text and FILES) to the server (PHP) and it's saved in a MySQL database. This tablets are used by doctors that are visiting the patients in their homes. Some of these patients live in remote areas with very bad Internet connection, so I'm thinking on use HTML5 Offline feature to solve these situations. I started reading about it but I'm newbie with this technology. I've some questions: Do you think this is the best/easiest solution? If I could save the form data in a local sqlite storage when the tablet is offline, how I could synchronize it with the data in MySQL server when the tablet become online? Thanks

  I have an old Access application that has a lot of code in forms and reports. The database is getting too large and I am thinking of moving the back end to SQL Server. My requirements are as follows: The DB needs to be multiuser and the users (3-5) will need to log in over the web I would prefer not to re-write the forms and reports in ASP or some other web front end. When I think about my choices, I see them as: Have an Access ADP front end and allows remote log-in to the server where it is stored. Not sure if it is possible for 2 users to simultaneously log in Distribute an ADP front end to the users, but I am not sure if it is possible to connect to a SQL Server back end over the internet, and the network traffic may be an issue. Any other solution? I appreciate all help. u

  Hi everyone, I have a shell script that creates Firefox profiles and then uses them to open multiple instances of Firefox simultaneously. The problem is how can I open a URL in a particular instance of Firefox? I have tried firefox -CREATEPROFILE test firefox -P 'test' -no-remote firefox -P test -url www.google.ie But the last part which is trying to open the URL using the test profile does not work, it always opens in then default profile. Is there any way to tell Firefox from the command line to open a URL using a particular profile? Thanks.

• Binding keys from specific device in X.org

  I have a remote control for presentations, which generates Next/Prior key events in X.org (Page up/down). I'd like to use these for navigating in playlist (using MPD, but it probably does not matter). The problem is that I want to make this control work all the time (without application having focus) and I don't want to lose Page up/down functionality from normal keyboard. Is there some application which would allow me to bind actions to events from specific keyboard? Or is there simple way to implement such thing on my own?

  I have a Marketing service running locally through port 49481 and through IIS on port 65000. Either way when I try to debug into that service, I get an error message - {"There was no endpoint listening at http:/localhost:49481/Marketing.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details."} My inner exception is - {"The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found."} I can open that service address, http:/localhost:49481/Marketing.svc, through a browser and I get a message that it's running ok. My config file is set up like - <endpoint address="http://localhost:49481/Marketing.svc" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BasicHttpBinding_IMarketing" contract="SunriseMarketing.IMarketing" name="BasicHttpBinding_IMarketing" /> What am I missing?

• Force Response to Download File(s) to Desktop with Ruby?

  I was thinking about making a little crop/resize batch processor online, and wanted to know if there was a way for me to do the following: upload image and specify dimensions click "process" and remote app resizes image image downloads automatically locally to wherever it was I uploaded it (say from my desktop), but with a new name (based on the time for example). This would make it so I could host a free image processor that never stored any data other than tempfiles. Is that possible? Something like Rails' send_file method, but I'm using Sinatra and am looking for something in pure ruby. What's the basic concept behind this? What if I wanted to do this for multiple files? Åssuming I can get multiple files uploaded no problem, how can I download all of them automatically?

  Hey all, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and trying to run a Java program I wrote whose source code is located on a remote machine. I'm using ssh to connect using the following command from the terminal: ssh -X username@hostname When running the program, one of the GUI frames has its buttons missing from view, but they are clickable and work as expected when I can guess accurately where they are. Running the code from my local machine they are present, and running from another windows machine using X-Windows they are present. Been trying to solve this problem for a few hours now but to no avail. Anyone have any helpful insight how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

• vb.net : is it possible to connect to sql server 2008 via odbc but not through vb.net code?

  I'm supporting an old vb.net program whose database it connected to was moved from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. Is there a setting on SQL Server 2008 which will allow ODBC connections to access the database but not allow VB.NET to connect to it programmatically? the error i keep receiving in the app is: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server) however I can connect to it when I create a system dsn to the sql server instance and through VS2005's Tools Connect to Database. • Web Forms Routing not having correct path to images, css, scripts ...

However, I am unable to find out how to set up routing in such a way that server ignores routing for images, css and scripts so it will be read as http://address/css/text.css instead of http://address/article/1212/some-text/css/text.css The only way I can make this work if I put tag into but I am sure it can be done other way.   I've found numerous posts on stackoverflow on how to store user passwords. However, I need to know what is the best way to store a password that my application needs to communicate with another application via the web? Currently, our web app needs to transmit data to a remote website. To upload the data, our web app reads the password from a text file and creates the header with payloads and submits via https. This password in plain text on the file system is the issue. Is there any way to store the password more securely? Thanks!

  I have written a console application in Delphi that queries information from several locations. This application will be launched by another process, and the output to STDOUT will be captured by the launching process. The information I am retrieving is to be interpreted by the calling application for reporting purposes. What is the best way to output this data to STDOUT so that it can be easily parsed? JSON? XML? CSV? The data, specifically, is remote workstation information, so it will pull things back like running processes, and details about each process. Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?

  A new instance of a TcpClient connects to a remote host. Its NetworkStream is retrieved and stored. Do I have to store the TcpClient itself as well to make sure it is not garbage collected? In case you're going to answer "You have to store it to be able to dispose it": In my specific case, the TcpClient is usually living for a long time (app lifetime), so disposing it is not really a must. However, I agree that, in general, it has to be stored just to be able to call Dispose.

• Move/copy files/folder in linux/solaris using only bash built-ins

  There was a situation when somebody moved the whole rootdir into a subdir on a remote system, thus all the system tools like cp, mv, etc didn't work anymore. We had an active session though but couldn't find a way to copy/move the files back using only bash built-ins. Do somebody know of a way to achieve this? I even thought about copy the cp or mv binary in the currentdir with while read -r; do echo $LINE; done and then redirect this to a file, but it didn't work. Guess because of all the special non printable chars in a binary file that can't be copied/displayed using echo. thanks.

I need to keep a count of the number of bytes transferred.   If i want to develop a registry-like System for Linux, which Windows Registry design failures should i avoid? Which features would be absolutely necessary? What are the main concerns (security, ease-of-configuration, ...)? I think the Windows Registry was not a bad idea, just the implementation didn't fullfill the promises. A common place for configurations including for example apache config, database config or mail server config wouldn't be a bad idea and might improve maintainability, especially if it has options for (protected) remote access. I once worked on a kernel based solution but stopped because others said that registries are useless (because the windows registry is)... what do you think?

  Situation: In short, I have a football schedule. I would like to use a custom cell which provides more info for only the next game date in the schedule. Issue: How do I find only the next closest game in the schedule (for iOS)? I've watched the WWDC 2013 video for "Solutions to Common Date and Time Issues" however this primarily applies to the Mac. I've searched numerous posts here and some are close but not what I need to find ONLY the next date from my list of dates in the schedule. From other posts I see where I can compare two specific dates, but this is not what I want to do. I want to find the next closest date that is equal to or after today from a list of dates. • Maven install-file won't generate pom.xml

  I've installed some third party jars to my repository using the following command: mvn install:install-file -Dfile=/home/anotherCoder/Downloads/nifty-1.0.jar -DgroupId=nifty-gui -DartifactId=nifty-gui -Dversion=1.0 -Dpackaging=jar However, once I do mvn compile, maven complains that there is no pom file in the repository and attempts to download it, but can't cause it is not published at any remote repository. Here is the exact message from maven: Downloading: http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/nifty-gui/nifty-gui/1.0/nifty-gui-1.0.pom [INFO] Unable to find resource 'nifty-gui:nifty-gui:pom:1.0' in repository central (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2) So how do I get maven to generate a pom file for that jar and put it in my local repository?
