Ubuntu 13.10. After login, no desktop displayed. Two Nvidia Graphics Cards, Four Monitors

I am working on an issue with my Ubuntu 13.10 installation. I am attempting to get 4 monitors up and running but I am having some trouble. So far, I installed and updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers (331.20). Initially X would not start (after installation) so I replaced my xorg.conf with xorg.conf.failsafe. This fixed that problem, but then I tried to enable the other 2 monitors (other video card) and xorg fails to start once again (after I login there is no desktop). Often when I'm building my MVC 2 application using Visual Studio 2010, I get the following error: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. On the internet, this error seems to be related to having a nested web.config in your application. There are a lot of threads discussing existence of WPF/Silverlight/HTML5 on Windows 8, I just need to clarify the picture about desktop applications only, I have following queries to the experts What are the technologies available for developing desktop applications on Windows 8? What are the technologies I can use for creating rich multimedia applications. Currently I have an application with DirectX 9 and WPF. If I am to develop something like that for Windows 8 then what options are available to me, and what are the pros and cons of these. Is it a good idea to continue with the same DirectX 9 code on Windows 8 as well? What is the best option equivalent to DirectX, Is it XNA or is it DirectX 11 or something else? Performance an extensibility are critical points to me. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in Advance.

I've failed at PHP several times. Is Ruby the Cure? [closed]

Extremely, extremely subjective question here, but its something I've been struggling with for quite a while. I've seriously tried to become a reasonable PHP coder for the past several years. But I've really failed every time. I hate to describe myself as a beginner, b/c I've been designing websites (using WordPress, Drupal, etc) for years, but still I just can't seem get better at programming. Could it be that I have some kind of allergy to PHP? I went through Chris Pine's awesome into to Ruby about a week ago (for about the fifth time), and though it did all all seem much clearer to me than PHP, I wondered if I was just switching languages to find an easy way out? The things I struggle with in PHP all seem elementary—when to use a function, how to return database queries in foreach/while statements, when to turn those queries into reusable functions, adding arguments to functions, etc, etc. And all the OOP stuff that I keep seeing these days just files over my head. I guess my question(s) are: Am I going about learning how to program in the wrong way? Do I have some aversion to PHP that's preventing me from catch on? If I keep pushing at Ruby/Rails, will it just eventually 'click'. Or, the one I fear, am I just unlikely to ever be a programmer? Honesty appreciated. Terry

I've received my B.S. in Software Engineering in August 2010 and I've been looking for a job since. I've gotten two interviews since that went up to the technical phone interview and then they were no longer interested. One of the recruiters mentioned to me that they thought my fundamentals weren't strong enough. What do I need to brush up on in order to get past the technical phone interview. My language of most experience is C#. I know Object Oriented Programming. I know what the difference between an interface and an abstract class is. I've applied to positions from game programming to WPF/Silverlight. I have a portfolio website www.samarmstrong.me. It also has my resume on there. I never had real internship. Am I unhireable?
