• Adding a self-signed certificate to iphone Simulator?

  I have a self-signed certificate at the endpoint of my API. I'm trying to test some things using the simulator but am getting "untrusted server certificate". I have tried to use safari on the simulator to download the .crt file, but that doesn't seem to work. Where does iPhone Simulator get its keychain from? How can I add a trusted certificate so my application will work? UPDATE I got it to work by creating a CA and then adding a CA certificate using the iPhone provisioning tool. Then I was able to have a certificate signed by that CA certificate on the API server and the NSConnection just worked. I was not able to get it to work using a self-signed certificate for some reason. I need to re-attempt this using the provisioning software. My real question is how do I get this to work on the simulator? I would think that the simulator uses the keychain of the actual computer.

  FirstData has horrendous customer support, but I have to integrate with their Global Gateway web service for a project I'm working on. I'm simply trying to run the Axis2 wsdl2java tool according to the instructions in their manual. This basically consists of adding the keyStore and keyStorePassword JVM parameter. I've done both, but I continue to get Connection reset errors when trying to run: wsdl2java.bat -uri https://www.staging.linkpointcentral.com/fdggwsapi/order.wsdl -S C:\ When I try to access the URL with my browser, I get Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error. I assume there are developers out there who have completed a FirstData web service integration. What am I doing wrong? • How to use Winmerge with Git Extensions?

  I'm using Git Extensions and it pre-installs and sets up KDiff as the diff tool to solve merge conflicts. I'm very fond of Winmerge though and would like to replace KDiff with Winmerge. In the Git Extensions settings, there are settings to change the Mergetool, but I can't seem to figure out what syntax I should use and why. There seem to be 4 variables: $BASE, $LOCAL, $REMOTE, $MERGED. It seems that I should pass these to WinMergeU.exe, but with which command line parameters? I've tried to search for this a few times, but there is no answer that actually seems to work.

  In my project I have very big XSD file which i use to validate some XML request and response to a 3rd party. For the above scenario I can have 2 approaches 1) Create XML and then validate against give XSD 2) Create classes from XSD with the help of XSD gen tool, add xtra bit of attirbutes and use them for validation. Validation in the second way will work somewhat in this manner, a) convert xml request/response into object with XML Serialization b) validate the object with custom attributes set on each property, i.e. Pass the object to a method which will validate the object by iterating through properties and its custom attributes set on the each property, and this will return a boolean value if the object validates and that determines whether the xml request is valid or not? Now the concern which approach is good in terms of performance and anything else???

• android memory management outside heap

  Hi I am working on an application for android and we since we have lots of graphics, we use a lot of memory. I monitor the memory heap size and its about 3-4 Mb , and peeks of 5Mb when I do something that requires more memory (and then goes back to 3). This is not a big deal, but some other stuff is handled outside the heap memory, like loading of drawables. For example if I run the ddms tool outside eclipse, and go to sysinfo, I see that my app is taking 20Mb on the Droid and 12 on the G1, but heap size are the same in both, because data is the same but images are different. So the questions are: How do I know what is taking the memory outside the heap memory? What other stuff takes memory outside the heap memory? Complex layouts (big tree) ? Animations? Thanks Daniel

  We're trying to work out a deployment strategy for an internal tool that we're creating. It's a control that uses a set of 3rd party libraries to communication with a specific type of server. So I have a class library built that uses these libraries. I was looking to deploy a silverlight application that uses our library, which in turn uses a set of 3rd party libraries. When trying to reference the 3rd party libraries, I get the "library can not be referenced because it was not built as a silverlight library". The type of project I'm trying to build is a silverlight application - not a dll library or anything else. Is it possible to create a silverlight application using libraries created outside of silverlight?

  Greetings, In the QT application we develop we need to display several 'Viewer windows'(to display data in XY plane ,YX plane,XZ plane and in 3D). We were hoping to use MDI application model ,but later client asked for a requirement to drag and view 'Viewer windows' in multiple desktops.(using multiple monitors). This can not be done using MDI window model ,because we cannot move MDI window outside the Main Application Window. Only possible way is to use Dock windows because they can be undocked from Main Application Window and move into other desktops, but Dock windows primary used for tool-palettes or utility windows. • Explain difference in SQLIO numbers for RAID 0 versus RAID 5 over 6 disks

  When using the SQLIO benchmark tool on a 4-core Dell server with 6 15k 450GB (fast) drives, RAID 0, we found the max throughput was 2MB per second. But when configured as RAID 5, we get 30 MB per second. It seems that the RAID controller, Dell Perc 5i integrated controller, is maxing out the throughput per disk. With RAID 5, I expect to get a bump due to stripping, but not a 15x difference. Like good programmers, we suspect the hardware , but we could be missing something. This is predominately write traffic.

  Hi, We're in the process of upgrading from VS2008 to VS2010 since it's now released. We are using CC.NET along with MSTest and want to use MS coverage tool instead of NCover. Interestingly, as I've seen others talking about as well, when you upgrade your project from VS2008 to VS2010 your Test Projects get converted to .NET 4. Nice move!! So WTF does one do with their CI environment in order to build this stuff (some projects in .net 3.5, some in .net 4 - these are different FRAMEWORKS!) LOL!!! It seems that I might need to have my CC.NET build two separate projects? - not sure about how to run the units tests from cruise with .net 4. Has anyone done this and have a snippet of their config they might share? And I thought this was going to be a simple thing. :( thanks! Bill44077

  What publishing frameworks (publishing only, NOT full-blown CMS) based on XML, XSLT sitemaps and pipelines exist, are stable, active, and simpler / lighter than Cocoon? I have glanced at: mod_xslt (http://www.mod-xslt2.com/) which seemed to be exactly that, but looks all but dead, and required a complex setup, and apparently supported only libxslt as an XSLT processor (I'd like to be able to use Saxon and XSLT 2.0 of course). Apache Forrest (http://forrest.apache.org/), but I don't understand if it is really simpler than Cocoon or is rather an additionnal thing on top of Cocoon? What I'm looking for is something that does just this: recieves an HTTP GET "runs it" through a sitemap finds a pipeline: source.xml - xslt1.xsl - xslt2.xsl - xsltn.xsl - serialize runs the pipeline serves the serialized result to the client and: uses Saxon (or is "processor independant") can be installed "lightly", that is: should not require much more configuration than the sitemap Maybe I'm describing an early version of Cocoon, or a future version of an XProc implementation... • Using WPFPerf to profile a WPF 4.0 application doesn't show me any information

  I am trying to use WPFPerf to profile a WPF 4.0 application (I have the latest WPFPerf that should work on WPF 4.0 aps). I start the tool Visual Profiler from WPFPerf, I start my aplication, but after that nothing happens and the element tree from the Visual Profiler is empty. No other error message is shown. Can anyone tell me what am I not doint right? As an additional information, when I try to analize my .exe assembly or any other assembly from my application, I get a BadFormatException saying that the assembly was build with a newer version of .NET. From the download page http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=191420 I see that this version of WPFPerf should be ok for my app
