• Can't access sub domain from my network [closed]

  I am trying to access http://www.abc.xyz.com from my network, but not able to do so. However, http://www.xyz.com is opening fine in my browser. Asked a friend to open abc.xyz.com from his machine(in a different network), its opening fine. Checked my firewall settings as well. There's no such rule to deny the specific site or something that could be denying access to the sub domain. Kindly advise, how I can troubleshoot my problem.

• PuTTY: how to properly emulate -t option

  On Linux the ssh command has a -t option whose man page reads: Force pseudo-tty allocation. This can be used to execute arbitrary screen-based programs on a remote machine, which can be very useful, e.g. when implementing menu services. Multiple -t options force tty allocate, even if ssh has no local tty. I would like to use this same option with PuTTY on Windows. In particular, I can see that PuTTY has a bunch of options under: Category - Connection - SSH - TTY and suspect it might be possible to achieve the same behavior via some of the (NUMEROUS!) settings found on this screen. • PCI IDE Controller

  I have a suspicion that the onboard IDE controllers may not be working. Every disk I use to setup this machine reports as damaged (using a win xp installation to test, since it gets to partition setup fastest) So, I popped an IDE PCI Controller card in, to test with, but no drives are showing up in the bios now. I went into setup and changed the BIOS settings to disable onboard IDE1 and 2 to test, but still didn't detect the drives. How do I get that working? It's a standard PC with a 160GB disk and DVD Drive on master and slave channels on a single cable, if that helps. Let me know what else I need to state.

• SSH tunnel doesn't work

  I am trying to use my server as a "proxy" with ssh. However, setting up tunneling with ssh -D localhost:8000 user@myserver does not work. I tested this on various machines with ssh and putty - It connects just fine, but when I set my browser settings accordingly, I just get an error "Connection has been reset". I tried monitoring the traffic with wireshark, but I didn't even see some tunnel-traffic. I explicitly set AllowTcpForwarding to "yes" but I still can't use the tunnel. When running ssh in verbose mode, I don't get any errors but debug1: Connection to port 8000 forwarding to socks port 0 requested. debug1: channel 3: new [dynamic-tcpip] debug1: channel 3: free: dynamic-tcpip, nchannels 4 What am I doing wrong?

• Windows XP - Website unaccessible on single pc in LAN

  For serveral days now, a website isn't accessible on a single pc in the LAN. On the other pc's, it works just fine. And it's just a single website that's not accessible as far as I know of. The website generates a timeout on every single web browser I've tried (IE8, Firefox and Chrome). However, traceroute, nmap and telnet all work just fine. I've even tried multiple user accounts and safe mode, but that didn't work either. As a side note: using a linux live cd did work and I could access the website without any problems. The hosts file is the windows default, the ip- and dns settings on the network adapter normal as well. No strange processes are running and no viruses found. According to tcpview and netstat there are connections to the domain, but every request in the browser results in a timeout.. Any idea what's happening?

• Disappearing mouse cursor in Word, Notepad, Outlook

  I purchased a lenovo led monitor as a second monitor so I have dual screens now. Everything works great except all text programs make my cursor disappear on the new monitor. Everything works great on the old monitor but if I drag a text document to the new screen the cursor is invisible. Any ideas on what to try? Odd to me that it works on one and not the other so assuming it has something to do with the monitor but none of the settings seem to make a difference.

• Gigabit connection between 2 computers

  I am trying to set up a connection between 2 pc's. It's a direct cable connection. The problem that I am having is that the connection isn't gigabit. I know both network cards support gigabit. I checked in the device settings and in one pc I can see in the Speed & Duplex the 1Gbps option but on the other pc I can't see that option despite the fact that the network card is gigabit. I have quite some files to copy from one pc onto another and I really need a good connection between them. I can't really remove the hard drive because it would void the warranty. Could this be a driver issue or a cable issue? On both pc's I have windows 8. The network card on the pc that doesn't have the 1 gbps option is an Atheros ar8161 card.

• Can I convert my database/script to UTF-8 ?

  How can I convert a database to support UTF-8 and convert it's old data from what ever encoding they're in to UTF-8 ? Extra Info: I'm running a server which has many websites on it, and one of them is running WHMCS (php script to manage hosting clients). WHMCS has an iPhone application where i can browse it through iPhone, the problem is that this application will only run if everything in my website is in UTF-8 encoding. I was using windows-1256 as encoding in my script's settings, and i tried changing that in some point of time to UTF-8 for a while then changed it back to windows-1256 so, the data in the database are some inserted using UTF standards and most of them are windows-1256 If someone could clear the picture for me, Do I need to convert every database on the server or just one DB ? what should I change? If i had to do that manually, I'll do it but I need some expert advise.

  I want to created vpn server on Windows Server 2012. First I installed Active Directory domain services, then Remote Access server role. Opened Gettng Started Wizard, entered configure just vpn. Then in Routing and Remote access selected Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access. There selected custom configuration, vpn. Then created user in active directory and allowed network access permission. After this I tried to connect to vpn from windows 8. I get the following error: Error 720: A connection t the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection. What should I do?

• How to log php error in a separate file?

  I just did an upgrade of my server to Fedora 17 and merged some configuration files containing .rpmnew into the existing ones. I have been successfully logging my php errors in a separate log file by keeping the following in php.ini: log_errors = On error_log = /var/log/php-errors.log I am not sure why the errors are being logged to /var/log/httpd/error_log after the upgrade despite keeping the settings above. Also, $ ls -l /var/log/php-errors.log -rwxrwxr--. 1 apache myself 232 Dec 13 16:49 /var/log/php-errors.log shows that apache did own the php error log file. What could be causing PHP errors to be logged into apache error log file?

• Ubuntu server 9.10 freezes up after ~10 minutes - unconventional

  There is a topic by essentially the same name, but my answer leads to another question which I would like answered so... My case is as follows: I connect through SSH to my server... no problems for many months on Ubuntu Server 9.04. Eventually I decided to updgrade and straight away I get the 10 minutes freeze problem. I went through all the possible fixes (many can be found here but my quick fix, the only that worked, leaves me with no real answer as to why and how to properly correct it... As ridiculous as it sounds... while I leave a keyboard plugged in... it runs without flaw. Can anyone make sense of this? For the sake of completeness, (although none of the following made any difference upon subsequent completion), some of the permanent changes I have made while trying to correct the issue are: replacing samba config file with 9.04 backup, booting with noapic and modifying sysctl.conf, just uncommenting additional settings for enhanced security.

I can browse whole site with both http and https. I want whole site to be browsed by only http and the particular folder in website to be browsed using only https. • How to bring back a far right chromeless window?

  Accidentally some windows goes far right, and "goes out of" to the monitor. I know keyboard shortcuts to move it back when the windows have a title bar. But that windows (HTC Home and Rainlendar) don't have title bar, doesn't appears in windows TaskBar or TaskManager. I've tryed restart windows; to close and reopen that software; change the resolution to very low, and then to very high; but it doesn't works... I know that I can dig in the settings files of that programs, but I think interesting discover how to bring back that windows so I can use that technique if that problem appears again with another softwares too. Is there a better place for me to put the call to the filter such that it's persistent? I appreciate any assistance and/or guidance!

• Where does Skype save its chat history & contacts?

  I'm aware that there is a main.db file that is stored in a Windows directory. On XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<windows user>\Application Data\Skype\<username> But I just downloaded Skype onto my Android and noticed that all chats are sync'd. So to me, this suggests that the main.db file is not the only storage being used (because it is obviously not on my phone). Are contacts and chat history stored in my online Skype account? Does anyone know where I can find more information about this? I read this thread: Does skype automatically save chat history to the cloud? And how do you explain the sync'd chats?

• Remote access over VPN machine

  Here is my scenario. I have Comp1 which has VPN installed on it & working fine. I have made Comp1 as remote enabled as well. Now i want to log in to Comp1 ( remotely) from Comp2. Without starting the VPN, remote desktop works fine from Comp2 to Comp1. When i connect to VPN on Comp1 the remote desktop from Comp2 breaks. Is there a way i can run VPN on Comp1 and be able to access from Comp2 remotely. If there is change in settings, please advice. Regards

• Left click and enter not working

  Sometimes when I turn on my homemade desktop computer (running 64-bit Windows 7), the left mouse click and enter key doesn't work. They work well in BIOS, as well as on the Windows 7 BCD and login screen. Usually, restarting the computer solves the problem. Why does this keep happening? I've tried: Using other USB ports Refreshing, repairing and reinstalling drivers Changing mouse settings Refreshing mouse profiles My keyboard is a Logitech G510, and my mouse is a Razer Lanchesis 5600. Both work without problems in Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 8.1 Preview, and I've been using both on my 64-bit Windows 7 homemade desktop without problems for about a year and a half. • How to prevent boot manager missing after cloning a win764 image using Ghost 2003?

  I am running ghost 2003 command -fdsp, but once we have cloned the image and restored it onto exactly the same make and model machine, we are force to run win7 setup and run a repair which fixes the boot menu, I want to prevent this requirement to fix the problem, any suggestions besides the obvious of using Windows AIK tools, new versions of ghost/clonzilla. I want to prevent the problem in the first place, it's 1 partition only, on a levano workstation m82 with UEFI and a 100mb system reserved partition. Windows Boot Manager screen and states: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next." 3.Click "Repair you computer." • PHP5.3 FastCGI doesn't use global config's values

  There's a Centos6.3 system. Apache 2.2.15 + mod_fcgid + PHP 5.3.3 There's a problem with date.timezone value. It's mentioned in the global /etc/php.ini like this: date.timezone = "Europe/Moscow" And doesn't mentioned in user's local php.ini. As a result, I'm getting lot's of warnings like: Warning: date() [function.date]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'Europe/Helsinki' for 'EEST/3.0/DST' instead in ... Including the date.timezone parameter into the user's php.ini solves the problem, but I don't think, that it's the best solution. Maybe someone have faced this problem and can give an advice? Thanks! P.S. Creating /etc/php.d/timezone.ini with the timezone info aslo does nothing:(

• How do I set up a working GUEST USER account in Win XP Pro?

  I have two user accounts within my WinXP Pro PC. One I'd like to erase. But I'd also like to setup a GUEST user account. I've already gotten 2-step instructions on how to get rid of the extraneous account: a) use an MS tool called delprof.msi b) manually delete the former users files in Documents & Settings. But I guess my original question was too complex -- kind of like a bill in Congress. So now I am just asking the final part of the question: How do I create a GUEST ACCOUNT -- then define what it will authorize/grant access to? i.e. internet browser(s), specific programs and files etc

• Emacs doesn't use ~/.ssh/config when accessing files on a remote machine

  I have a fresh install of arch Linux. I've installed Emacs from the rpos, and my home directory is mounted from a separate partition. I have old settings I've used on my ~/.ssh/config along with authentication keys I've regularly used before. Now, when I try to connect to a remote machine using Emacs, Emacs asks for my password and uses the wrong username. Clearly, Emacs doesn't access my config file. When I try to ssh or scp directly to the machine, things work fine. What do I need to update?

• Where are iSCSI and volume information location on ESX 4.0?

  Let me start by saying I am somewhat of a Vmware novice, I know just enought to manage and create servers at a basic level from the vSphere client. I have a VMWare server, ESX 4.0 connected over iSCSI to a SAN. The SAN is being used as storage for both RDMs and VMFS volumes. The SAN has died and I ordered a new one. Where can I see the settings related to the iSCSI and volume configuration so that I can try and replicate them on the new SAN when it arrives?

• Windows 7 hangs after longer inactivity of user

  I have serveral PCs running Windows 7 in different falvors (32- / 64-bit / Professional / Ultimate / ATI / Nvidia) - they all have one problem in common... ...if I don't work on any of them for a longer time and the screen goes off as it should be (all default settings!) they sometimes go into some kind of sleep mode where I get to see the desktop or whatever I did before leaving after moving the mouse or pressing a key - but nothing reacts for a different amount of time from serveral seconds to serveral minutes! Any hint that helps solving this anoying problem would be very welcome ;-)
