• Alternative, more efficient scraping method for a noncoder, than Google doc's importxml and xpath?

  I've searched throughout the net for a simple solution, but it seems everyone has their own unique method (coding language) of achieving this. I'm only just beginning to learn Linux, and my coding skills are thoroughly lacking (non-existent). I love the simplicity of using importxml and xpath, but copying and pasting values after reaching the spreadsheet limit of 50 is getting old. Now that I've seen the light, I would really just like to know of a simple, yet scalable solution to get more data into more spreadsheets/databases. Before I really start getting my hands dirty, I would love to know some of the ways you guys go about accomplishing this?

Before I do so, I will need to speak to my manager on how to properly prepare and secure it since this is the first Mac that will be regularly used on the network in the office and company intranet. So there's definitely a Microsoft-only culture in the office, and the infrastructure/networking team are mostly unfamiliar with non-Microsoft technology and software.   I am trying to compile file-roller from git, but running autogen.sh gives me this error configure: error: Package requirements (gtk+-3.0 >= 2.91.1) were not met: No package 'gtk+-3.0' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GTK_CFLAGS and GTK_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. I am running Ubuntu Maverick and don't wish to completely replace my current version of gtk, glib, etc. I have tried to compile GTK using the --prefix argument of autogen.sh, but this gives me a similar error about my version of glib. How can I successfully compile file-roller using these new libraries without borking my install?

• Buildcraft Minecraft mod causing crashes, NVIDIA-304xx Linux Drivers, KDE

  All is perfect, 96 fps average. Until an item tries to enter a buildcraft pipe. Tekkit instantly crashes, no error dialog. I have no idea what logs to look at for information on the crash, or how to fix it. • Linked Tables not working With Access Database

  Hi, I have an Access database in a computer and I want to access it from other computer in the network. so I made mapped drive and created Linked Tables, then Imported all the objects (forms, queries, reports). when I open access database in the second computer and make any changes in using the forms non of the changes are affected in the main computer (supposedly server) and vise-versa. what am I missing? if this way will not work how can I access the Access database from other computer in the network and be able to use all the objects and make changes in it? hint: Access Version at main computer is 2003 and client pc 2007, will it effect?

• Is there any way to play Netflix (stream) in Windows Media Player 11?

  Googling for a solution yields a ridiculous page on eHow that instructs to insert a DVD from Netflix. But I am not interested in the DVD option. I am only interested in streaming and unfortunately none of my browsers (IE, FF, Chrome) uses the hardware acceleration built into my video card. The only way I can play non-choppy video on my PC is via Windows Media Player, but WMP doesn't list Netflix as one of the supported online stores for some reason. Any idea or trick how stream Netflix on WMP 11 instead of a browser?

  I am trying to see if OpenAFS fits my needs as a distributed filesystem and is a bit stuck. There are docs but they're all quite hard to understand, so asking for some expert advice here. My questions: which version to install? I need windows client support so I need 1.5 - right? But it is not stable.. Or is it? And don't see any pre-built rpms for it, so compiling from sources? tried to compile and it worked but it created a non-"mp" kernel module while my kernel needs an mp one - how to workaround that? do I really need a new fresh partition to start with or I can re-use an existing one and just make it available via afp? any nice HOWTOs around?

• RHEL 5.1 loses changes to /etc/hosts above lines for `localhost`

  Is there a known fix (other than upgrading from 5.1) to fix /etc/hosts from being replaced on reboot? I discovered this behavior when running HP's Server Automation tools. HPSA sets-up a variety of local aliases for itself to use for different components to communicate wit each other. However, after reboot, the hosts files is reverted to a quasi-plain-vanilla version: all lines above the entry for localhost are removed. Manually re-adding those needed lines below the entries for localhost works, but is non-ideal. Is there a fix for this behavior? I do realize that RHEL 5u1 is not officially supported for HPSA 7.8, but the hosts file resetting is not good for a variety of other reasons, too.

• Basic video editor for AVCHD Lite files?

  I have a camera (Panasonic Lumix GF-1) that outputs "AVCHD Lite" files, 720p h264 in a MTS container. I saw this question that said Movie Maker in Windows 7 supports AVCHD...but I just tried, and unfortunately it does not support AVCHD Lite. Are there any free or inexpensive non-linear video editors (NLE) that can natively handle AVCHD Lite files, without requiring some 3rd party driver? If not, are there any 3rd party drivers that are especially stable? (In my experience they usually have some problems...I got AVCHD Lite loading into VirtualDub using a 3rd party plugin, but it's very slow and sometimes crashes, and seeking takes ages.

  We have a SQL Server transactionally pushing replicate data to an MSDE 2000 SP3a subscriber over ISDN. Prior to a recent upgrade to bring us to the MSDE 2000 level we pushed to MSDE 1. We are finding that there is now a 5 minute keepalive being instigated from MSDE 2000 which we cannot account for. Further, we can find no way to either disable it or lengthen the keepalive interval. Not surprisingly, we are finding a marked increase in ISDN line costs due to these previously non-existent keepalive packets! Please note that we are assuming that it is an MSDE 2000 server issue, but it could equally be some behaviour related to the way that replication is operating on MSDE 2000. Unfortunately, as yet, we have not identified a replication configuration parameter that affects the keepalive in any way. Can anyone advise how we might indentify a root cause for this problem (and ideally a fix)?

  I have a an excel sheet with: in Col A: week numbers in Col B: dates (timesheet entries) I need to know the number of days worked for each week, so I need to the number of unique date entries per week number. I found formula's (both array as non-array) that handle this for a fixed range, but I want to have the results in another column per week number. • Automated git push attempt does not work - authentication issue

  I'm trying to automate a very periodic git add/commit/push cycle using a shell script and cron under OS X 10.8.5. The script is as basic as one would expect it to be: cd /my/directory git add . git commit -m "a commit message with the date" git push -u origin master I've tried running it both as root as well as a non-root user. When I do this manually, I get a dialog box from OS X requesting that I authenticate the operation. Running the script (either using cron or just using sh) ends up sending a message (via mail) to whichever user's cron executed the script saying that it was unable to write a file in the .git directory because of a permissions issue (which is most likely manual execution requires authentication). Is there any way to circumvent this issue, or give the script permission to perform this operation without having me intervene each time?

• Can I easily use a VPN to duplicate SSH Tunneling functionality?

  Right now, when I want to use an unsecured wireless connection with my (Linux) laptop, I secure my connection using a variation of the method provided here. However, to the best of my knowledge, the (non-jailbroken) iPad does not allow applications to tunnel traffic through local ports. However, it does seem to allow certain VPN traffic. I have never set up, or even used, a VPN before. I'm looking for confirmation that I'm not barking up the wrong tree before I invest significant effort into setting up my own VPN server. If I want to secure my wireless iPad traffic over an unsecure wireless connection, would I be on the right track by looking at a VPN?

  In Firefox on Ubuntu, if I middle-click anywhere on a page that's not a link, it seems to treat whatever text is in the clipboard as a URL and tries to load it. This is annoying, since if I either accidentally click the middle button or (more often) miss a link when trying to middle-click it, I'll either go to whatever URL is in my clipboard or get an alert saying: The URL is invalid and cannot be loaded Is there any way of either: a) Disabling this functionality so that middle-click on a non-link does nothing (maybe an about:config setting?, or b) Making the functionality more intelligent, so that it will only try and open text if it looks like a URL (this seems like a job for a plugin).

  Hi, I've been using this simple command (that's all I can do :) to backup the whole tree from my user data in NAS server for a year. cp -r /STORAGE /BACKUP-STORAGE/YYYY-MM-DD Unfortunately, after a year of service. My user start filling the spaces with lot of photo and cliparts (jpg, gif, bmp) And that start to make my backup process get much slower. The space is also a big issue. Now I no longer have enough space for a week-long daily backup set. I think I want to change from backup everything to backup only non-image data. How can I exclude jpg, gif, and bmp from the backup ? It's quite easy with DOS XCOPY command, but I really have no idea how to do that in bash. Thanks

• Access forbidden! using xampp on macosx 10.5

  I installed xampp back around January 2009, and CF8 to test coldfusion on my macbook (note: I do not think that this issue is related to CF, but only xampp). I only ever used the apache part of xampp, and this was working for over a year. In the last couple of months at the most I've started getting the following error message (even for none CF sites, and non .cfm pages, the error occurs for .html files..): Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server. • Increased CF JVM max heap size and now CF service will not start

  So I went in to ColdFusion Administrator and increased my CF JVM max heap size, then I was told I would need to restart the service, so I stopped the service, and then tried to start it again and got the following error message: Windows could not start the ColdFusion 8 Application Server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 2. So I went to the Event Viewer application, then took a look at the Application log and saw an error that said: The ColdFusion 8 Application Server service could not be started. Check the server "coldfusion" log files for more information. So I went to my ColdFusion logs directory opened the server.log log file and I don't see anything useful in there or any of the other log files.. Any idea how I can change the JVM heap size back to what it was so that I can start CF again?

• Reset Network Load Balancer Connection Pool

  I am currently working on load testing a web application on a virtual machine cluster. I am looking for a way to flush the connection pool / NLB cache so that it is like each machine connecting to the NLB is connecting for the first time and doesn't get directed back to the node that it was on last time. This a Windows 2003 Server cluster, behind a Microsoft software based Network Load Balancer. Additional Information: To do the load testing I'm using virtual machines, one for each node on the cluster. Somehow I got two virtual machines connecting to the same node and I'm looking for an easier way to reset those connections without going in to the NLB Manager and stopping and starting each node on the NLB. Update: We went ahead and changed the affinity on all of the nodes of the cluster to none. Now it's a non-issue.

• zip being too nice (osX)

  I use zip to do a regular backup of a local directory onto a remote machine. They don't believe in things like rsync here, so it's the best I can do (?). It never seems to get above 5%. I tried making it nice -20 but that didn't make any difference. Is it just the network or disc speeds bottlenecking the process or am I doing something wrong?

• Fixing sticky keys without removing the keys?

  Hello, we had an E-Machine netbook brought in today that has sticky keys. (don't ask me why we said we'd fix it) Well, I've looked at a few howtos for fixing it, but they all require removing the keys. When I tried to remove the keys, I got the key to like a 45 degree angle and it still didn't budge, so I'm pretty sure the keys are non-removable. Is it common for places to even be able to find a replacement keyboard for netbooks and is there a way to fix sticky keys without removing the keys?

• Windows Upgrade vs Full Install

  I'm in the process of purchasing a Netbook for use while traveling. The included OS is XP, however, I would like to upgrade(?) to Windows 7. My question: Does a Windows Upgrade have the same physical footprint and performance as a full install? Does an upgrade leave behind non used files/resources that were originally included in XP? If so, are there ways to reduce this? I'm trying to reduce as much OS bloat as possible. Please let me know if my question is unclear. Thanks.   I'm trying to install memcache on MAMP but I get the warning below, and when I continue it seems to complete properly. • Caching without file extensions

  I'm trying to use Varnish to show the non-logged in users a cached version of my website. I'm able to perfectly detect if the user is logged in or out, but I can't cache pages without extensions. There is no file extension because nginx is rewriting the URL to a php script(so caching .php does not work). For example I'd like varnish to cache: example.com example.com/forum/ example.com/contact/ I have tried if (req.request == "GET" && req.url ~ "^/") { return(lookup); } if (req.request == "GET" && req.url ~ "") { return(lookup); } if (req.request == "GET" && req.url ~ "/") { return(lookup); } but nothing seems to work... any help?
