  • How do I read multiple lines from STDIN into a variable?

    I've been googling this question to no avail. I'm automating a build process here at work, and all I'm trying to do is get version numbers and a tiny description of the build which may be multi-line. The system this runs on is OSX 10.6.8. I've seen everything from using CAT to processing each line as necessary. I can't figure out what I should use and why. Attempts read -d '' versionNotes Results in garbled input if the user has to use the backspace key. Also there's no good way to terminate the input as ^D doesn't terminate and ^C just exits the process. read -d 'END' versionNotes Works... but still garbles the input if the backspace key is needed. while read versionNotes do echo " $versionNotes" >> "source/application.yml" done Doesn't properly end the input (because I'm too late to look up matching against an empty string).

And being a programmer i have to work with eclipse and netbeans like ide's, and they sometimes hang. So is there any option in ubuntu to stop the services running just like i do have in windows "msconfig" or mycomputer-manage, and where could i find the details about the services so that i should know what will be its effect if i stop this service.   • VPS hang when one Virtual CPU usage is 100%

    We are using Xen Center to manage all of our cPanel VPS servers. The hardware has two CPUs(Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU [email protected]) and 32GB memory. Each hardware has 4 cPanel VPS and each VPS has 8GB memory and 4 Virtual CPUS. Every one or two months, one of the VPS server will hang because one Virtual CPU usage is 100% and it couldn't release the CPU unless we use force reboot. We have 10 similar hardware, and this cause our server down almost every day. We have tried to avoid the Statistics Processing and Fantastico update during the night, but the problem still happens randomly. I can not find anything in the server log when it hangs. Any clue? Thank you.

  • How to Fix my jQuery code in IE?? Works in Firefox..

    I am using jQuery to show/hide a div container (#pluginOptionsContainer), and load a page (./plugin_options.php) inside it with the required POST vars sent. What POST data is sent is based on the value of a select list (#pluginDD) and the click of a button (#pluginOptionsBtn)... It works fine in Firefox, but doesn't work in IE.. The '$("#pluginOptionsContainer").load()' request never seems to finish in IE - I only see the loading message forever... bind(), empty() and append() all seem to work fine in IE.. But not load()..     I'm refactoring a website using MVC. What was a set of huge pages with javascript, php, html etc etc is becoming a series of controllers and views. I'm trying to do it in a modular way so views are split in 'modules' that I can reuse in other pages when needed eg. "view/searchform displays only one div with the searchform "view/display_events displays a list of events and so on. One of the old pages was supposed to load a google map with a marker on it. I've read about window.onload but don't know what's the correct syntax for that. please keep in mind that other parts of the page include other js functions (eg, google adsense) that are called after the footer.

  • Javascript self contained sandbox events and client side stack

    I'm in the process of moving a JSF heavy web application to a REST and mainly JS module application . I've watched "scalable javascript application architecture" by Nicholas Zakas on yui theater (excellent video) and implemented much of the talk with good success but i have some questions : I found the lecture a little confusing in regards to the relationship between modules and sandboxes , on one had to my understanding modules should not be effected by something happening outside of their sandbox and this is why they publish events via the sandbox (and not via the core as they do access the core for hiding base libary) but each module in the application gets a new sandbox ? , shouldn't the sandbox limit events to the modoules using it ? or should events be published cross page ? e.g. : if i have two editable tables but i want to contain each one in a different sandbox and it's events effect only the modules inside that sandbox something like messabe box per table which is a different module/widget how can i do that with sandbox per module , ofcourse i can prefix the events with the moduleid but that creates coupling that i want to avoid ... and i don't want to package modules toghter as one module per combination as i already have 6-7 modules ? while i can hide the base library for small things like id selector etc.. i would still like to use the base library for module dependencies and resource loading and use something like yui loader or dojo.require so in fact i'm hiding the base library but the modules themself are defined and loaded by the base library ... seems a little strange to me libraries don't return simple js objects but usualy wrap them e.g. : u can do something like $$('.classname').each(.. which cleans the code alot , it makes no sense to wrap the base and then in the module create a dependency for the base library by executing .each but not using those features makes a lot of code written which can be left out ... and implemnting that functionality is very bug prone does anyonen have any experience with building a front side stack of this order ? how easy is it to change a base library and/or have modules from different libraries , using yui datatable but doing form validation with dojo ... ? some what of a combination of 2+4 if u choose to do something like i said and load dojo form validation widgets for inputs via yui loader would that mean dojocore is a module and the form module is dependant on it ?   • App to slice'n'dice video, specifically remove chunks, on a Mac?

    I have a couple of collections of DVD Box-Sets I've ripped to my mac. Now I'd like to sweeten the viewing experience by removing the title sequences and credits so that viewing doesn't mean I have to keep reaching for the remote to skip 30 seconds of annoying music (think watching multiple episodes of Family Guy). If I can find an app that will let me do this reasonably quickly manually that would be great, but it would be perfect if I could dump a load of commands into a file and have everything trimmed while the mac is "inactive". I'm thinking that if I can specify chunks of time to remove from the original file that would be perfect. I had a quick look at importing into iMovie to do it manually and gave up at the "Processing Thumbnails" stage as it said it would be a couple of hours to produce them for a 45min mp4 file, which I can understand at 25fps but I'm not willing to wait, especially when I've got over a week's worth of files. Any suggestions?

  • Responsive grid, floated elements move underneath one another when min-width is reached

One contains an image which resizes with the browser resizing. The image has a min-width of 100px. Can anyone tell me why when put into a mobile sized width it doesn't drop down? The problem is, when the dispatcher tries to call this handler, it loses it's original context. How can I bind the handler with the context of the object that calls the attach function without passing this as an argument and using that?

  • Simple Ubuntu Server - Expanding disk space - adding a new drive LVM, RAID0 existing setup - how?

    I have a 1TB ext4 partition mounted at / with all my data and Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) installed. Now this drive is almost full (I used it as a database server for some processing). RAID0 is ok, I can take a failure (touch wood). But I need a way to grow this partition. I have a new 1TB drive I want to add, however as my Ubuntu boot and all data is on the one partition I'm not sure how I can go about setting up a RAID0 or LVM array without loosing all my data. So the question is how can I extend my existing ext4 partition over two physical drives without losing data? Thanks!
