• Using Virtualbox USB capabilities

  Is there anyone actually using the USB capabilities of the Virtualbox? I've tried in 3 diferent computers and just keep receiving the message that the USB device is busy with a previous request. I'm trying to access USB stuff since the first version (now using 3.0.4) but I was never successful. Is there any special configuration or tweak to make?

  When I got sick my email ended up in every drug sellers email list. Some days I get over 200 emails selling everything from Viagra to Xanax. Either they don't know what my condition is or they are telling me you are a goner, might as well chill-ax and have a good time. In order to cut down on the mail being downloaded I thought I would add all of the Junk email senders from Outlook to my Network Solution mail server. Much to my amazement I could not find that import Spammers button, so I submitted a tech support request. Here is the response: Thank you for contacting Network Solutions Customer Service Department. We are committed to creating the best Customer experience possible. One of the first ways we can demonstrate our commitment to this goal is to quickly and efficiently handle your recent request. However, if I send a request with the path of a HTML/image file explicitly the resource is accessible. Also, I do not get the "Create Virtual Directory" option in IIS.   I want Firefox to redirect bad and broken links to Google search instead of the "Can't find the server" page. If it takes an add-on, that's okay. When you enter a bad or broken link in Google Chrome, the browser takes you to a search results page with all possibly relevant links to the request attempted. Please don't suggest the search-tool-bar, I am aware of it. And it's not really significant in this scenario.

• EC2 instance suddenly refusing SSH connections and won't respond to ping

  My instance was running fine and this morning I was able to access a Ruby on Rails app hosted on it. An hour later I suddenly wasn't able to access my site, my SSH connection attempts were refused and the server wasn't even responding to ping. I didn't change anything on my system during that hour and reboots aren't fixing it. I've never had any problems connecting or pinging the system before. Can someone please help? • VMWare guest OS internet access issues

  My host is running Win 7 ultimate 64bit, ESET NOD32 AV 4.0 (64 bit). My guest OS is Windows XP Professional (Sp3) Using bridge mode, I can ping gateway just fine, even ping public dns server (8.8.8.8 or 208.67.222.222). But cannot resolve any dns request. I tried using nslookup with public dns, my gateway but no good. I can access my host share file normally thou. Any suggestions?

Can we do something like the Hotel wifi? they just access to the network and just key in the password, then they are able to access the internet for certain time of period. so far, i have looking for linux solution, but they are no such program/application available. do you all have any experience on it? • ubuntu 8.04lts + rdiff-backup: Should I install from source instead of using apt repositories?

  I'm trying to use rdiff-backup in order to make backup copies of some folders inside an Ubuntu 8.04LTS server. I'm attempting to do the backup on another server with a more modern Ubuntu distro (9.10). I'll call this one the "client". rdiff-backup needs to be installed on both the client and the server. It is available on the apt repositories on both machines, so I installed it using sudo apt-get install rdiff-backup. The problem is that the version installed on the server is older than the one on the client (1.1.15 vs 1.2.8). Thus I get errors when I try do make them work together. So I need both versions to be the same. What is the standard procedure in these cases? Should I attempt to upgrade the version on the server, or downgrade the version on the client? And how whould I do that? • How can I protect Chrome user interface?

  Google Chrome has a feature to change between Google accounts which allows several users to have their customized extensions, history and whatnot retrieved instantly. It doesn't, however, protect someone else from checking anything google related. That means anyone with access to your computer can check every google account that was setup as user in Chrome. How can I prevent that? I first thought of checking a box with the option to have Chrome request for password upon user change but that doesn't seem to exist.

But any subsequent changes to the file will not show up until i change the case of the file i'm asking for. Checking the IIS logs all indicate that the (internet) requests are all coming the correct client on the internet (i.e. not from some intermediate proxy). Since the file doesn't exist on the hard drive anymore, i conclude that there is a proxy. The requests serviced from this proxy are not logged in the IIS logs. The requests for new files are logged, and from the client IP, not a proxy IP. The proxy is case sensitivie. This does not sound like something Microsoft, or IIS, would do: - a transparent proxy - case-sensitivie - unlogged - surviving restarts of IIS - surviving in a cache for hours i can't believe that our customer's IIS is doing these things. i'm assuming there is some other transparent proxy in front of IIS. Or, does IIS have a transparent, unlogged, case-sensitive, memory based, proxy, that caches content for at least 7 hours? (Come Monday morning, IIS is serving the correct file, unlogged).

• User given a login prompt when closing Word documents after viewing them in IE7

  When using IE7 to view Word documents on our CRM system (an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 and using Windows authenticaton) I'm finding that a prompt appears when the user closes the document. The Word document is originally opened by clicking a link in the CRM system. Are there permissions that I can set on the folder containing the Word documents to prevent this prompt? I've already tried only allowing the Read permission for the Users group (I've left Administrators with Full Control.) If there's another solution to this without using permissions please let me know. UPDATE: I ran Fiddler as suggested by JD and here is the output from the two responses after the request for the document. The first seems to be a DAV response and the second is the authentication request. How do I prevent the DAV response and just return the .doc on the server? I moved all of the documents that are being requested into a folder outside of the web root, and created a virtual directory for it (also outside of the web root). When I followed a link to one of the documents in IE and then closed the document I wasn't presented with a login prompt. I should point out that I'm not using FPSE, unlike the person in the forum post. Ideally I don't want to have to put the documents in a separate virtual directory, but this is the simplest solution I've found so far.

• Load balancing with one server and IIS7(.5)

  Is it possible to configure loadbalancing on one server with IIS7? What I would like is to have three applications in IIS7 (sites). One site should forward the requests to the other two sites (loadbalanced). Problem is that at a customer of ours loadbalancing is used (with virtual servers). We on the other hand do not have (yet) a virtual environment and only one buildserver. (maybe using Application Request Routing module?)
