• UIButton to be resized

  I am using a UIButton in my application. This button title is displayed dynamically as per the user choice. Now i have to resize the button width as per the title content. I am calculating the string length and assigning it to button's width. the button is resized as per title but the problem is as follows, 1. If at first the title with large content is shown and after that if a title with a small content is shown means the button is overwritten it doesn't remove the previously constructed value. 2. it looks as if one button is overlapped on the another.

• Windows API calls from assembly while minimizing program size

  I'm trying to write a program in assembly and make the resulting executable as small as possible. Some of what I'm doing requires windows API calls to functions such as WriteProcessMemory. I've had some success with calling these functions, but after compiling and linking, my program comes out in the range of 14-15 KB. (From a source of less than 1 KB) I was hoping for much, much less than that. I'm very new to doing low level things like this so I don't really know what would need to be done to make the program smaller. I understand that the exe format itself takes up quite a bit of space. Can anything be done to minimize that? I should mention that I'm using NASM and GCC but I can easily change if that would help.

• Single dimension peak fitting

  I have a single dimensional array of floating point values (c# doubles FYI) and I need to find the "peak" of the values ... as if graphed. I can't just take the highest value, as the peak is actually a plateau that has small fluctuations. This plateau is in the middle of a bunch of noise. I'm looking find a solution that would give me the center of this plateau. An example array might look like this: 1,2,1,1,2,1,3,2,4,4,4,5,6,8,8,8,8,7,8,7,9,7,5,4,4,3,3,2,2,1,1,1,1,1,2,1,1,1,1 where the peak is somewhere in the bolded section. Any ideas?

• Delete Range of Data From Text File With PHP

  I want to delete a range of data from a text file using PHP. Let's assume the file contains the following: Hello, World! I want to delete everything from character 2 to character 7. The actual file I need to do this with is very large, so I don't want to have to read the large file in order to delete just a small, given range of data. The data contained within the given range is not known, so str_replace or preg_replace solutions wouldn't work anyways. Thanks!

• UISlider disappearing when calling setValue with 0

  I have several UISliders in my application which all work fine until I call the following code: ... frame = CGRectMake(43, 210, 201, 23); mySlider = [[UISlider alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; [mySlider addTarget:self action:@selector(sliderUpdate:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventValueChanged]; mySlider.minimumValue = 0.0; mySlider.maximumValue = 1.0; mySlider.continuous = YES; tempNum = [myArray objectAtIndex:2]; mySlider.value = [tempNum floatValue]; // only breaks if value is 0 [self.view addSubview:mySlider]; ... For some reason the slider doesn't show up unless mySlider.value is set to greater than 0. The only workaround I've found so far is to set it to an extremely small value (such as 0.000000001), which makes the slider appear as expected. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and how it can be fixed?

• What's the smartest way to organize SVN for translated versions of the same project?

  I apologize because I know this has been covered over and over again, but I'm trying to understand the smartest way to cleverly use subversion to our benefit. (*Note: I know our method is not the BEST way to handle localized versions, but external factors are forcing us to work this way on current projects) We have a fairly static website in English...html, css, js, etc. After the site comes back from the translator we will have 5 variations of the same code (this week...then potentially 25 more in the future!). So we'll soon have a folder for EN, FR, SP, DE, etc. Most files (css, js, img) will remain exactly the same; and html files (structure, id's, classes) will only vary based on the localized text inside the elements. Is there any way to use clever SVN folder structuring that would help us out in the event that if a small change is needed, we don't have to manually change the files in each and every translated version of the site?   Hi, We are building a flash website with cms at the back end, and we are allowing admin to put anchors inside a content. Later we created a smaller version of the whole content to display just a small part and then [read more] button. Which add a new layer on top of every thing acting like a popup and it is populated with complete content. Now we would like to scroll that text inside popup to that portion which [read more] button was clicked. The most common example inside HTMl is go to top link in footer on most of the sites which move the whole document to top. Happy codding.

• How to calculate the correct height for an auto-expanding textbox in Silverlight?

  In my Silverlight app I want a multi-line text box to expand every time the user hits Enter. The difficult part is how to calculate the correct height based on the number of text lines. I have tried the following but the textbox becomes too small: box.Height = box.FontSize*lineCount + box.Padding.Top + box.Padding.Bottom + box.BorderThickness.Top + box.BorderThickness.Bottom; What am I missing here? • Prevent Casual Piracy for Simple Utility

  I've written a small utility that I wish to sell for less than $10. My primary concern is "casual piracy". The scenario that plays out in my mind is this: User buys the program, enjoys using it and tells their friends. The friends copy the application to their USB drives and take it home - using the application for free (maybe never realizing they should have purchased it. Since I've got absolutely no protection built in, it would just be a simple copy'n paste to pirate the app. The users who would be using the app are in close proximity to each other (work in the same environment), so casual piracy would likely occur frequently. Any ideas? Keeping in mind the app is cheap (partly to reduce casual piracy), and the level of effort to write the app hasn't been very demanding. Update: the app will run on any system that supports .NET 3.5.

• VB.NET: Scrollbar "button"?

  I plan on using a scrollbar for, well, scrolling an image. The image is 200x500, however, the only visible area is 200x250. So I set the max value to 250, and the min value to 0. The idea is that if I drag the scrollbar's button to the bottom, 250 pixels will have moved for the image, right? But wait, the scrollbar's button is.... very small. And the scrollbar is actually pretty long. Is there a way to make the scrollbar's button longer?

  Background: I'm going to start studying/coding at the local university's library. Since I'm not a student, I won't be able to utilize their wireless internet access. Since StackOverflow is such a great resource, I want to be able to take it with me, so I'm building a small desktop application to load/search/display the most recent data dumps. Problem: I want to display code blocks in the same sort of rectangular block as this site does, so I played with the RichTextBox control to try to create this effect. Unfortunately, the RichTextBox.SelectedBackColor property only colors the actual text, when what I want is a rectangle reaching to the outer limits of the selection. Example: This is what I am able to produce with the RichTextBox: This is what I would like to create: Questions: Is there any way to produce this effect using the RichTextBox? If not, are there any other controls I could use to create this effect?

• Why does the VBA Editor open on its own sometimes?

  I've created a small script in Outlook 2003 VBA that watches for new appointments, and sets them to tentative and no reminder as I create them. However, I now find that seemingly at random, the VBA editor will open itself. It doesn't happen when I actually use the new script, but it did happen this morning when I un-hibernated my laptop, for example. The editor doesn't pop up any runtime errors or highlight any lines in the script, it's just there as if I had pressed Alt-F11 to launch it. Sometimes I close other apps and see that it's been sitting back there for a while. This behavior has only been occurring since I created this new script. Any ideas why this would occur? Thanks!

  Hi, Hope someone may be able to help. What i am looking to do is create a small winform app in c# to read the content of a email from a pop account, and upload key values to a sql automatically. The email format is always the same for each email, eg, First name : Last name : Phone number : etc... Currently the emails are being stored in a pop 3 account however i want a way to reduce having to key the information into the sql by hand. • Django Photologue - use photo with original compression

  hi, I´m uploading photos with Django Photologue. Is it possible to leave the jpgs as the are? Even if I tell photosize to use Highest Quality compression the files end up having half as many kb as the originals. I must admit that the visable loss of quality is small but as i am a photographer i would like the images to apear exactly as i edited them (photoshop). I don´t need any of photosize´s cropping and effects tools. Can it be turned off completely? thanks for your answers.

  I use SPs and this isn't an SP vs code-behind "Build your SQL command" question. I'm looking for a high-throughput method for a backend app that handles many small transactions. I use SQLDataReader for most of the returns since forward only works in most cases for me. I've seen it done many ways, and used most of them myself. Methods that define and accept the stored procedure parameters as parameters themselves and build using cmd.Parameters.Add (with or without specifying the DB value type and/or length) Assembling your SP params and their values into an array or hashtable, then passing to a more abstract method that parses the collection and then runs cmd.Parameters.Add Classes that represent tables, initializing the class upon need, setting the public properties that represent the table fields, and calling methods like Save, Load, etc I'm sure there are others I've seen but can't think of at the moment as well. I'm open to all suggestions.

  I'm working on a website that will allow users to upload and sell their artwork in different sizes. I was wondering what the best way would be to handle the different file sizes automatically. A few points I was curious on: How to define different size categories (small, medium, large) in such a way that I'll be able to dynamically re-size images with proportional dimensions. Should I store actual jpegs of the different sizes for download? Or would it be easier to generate these different sizes for download on the fly My thumbnails will be somewhat larger than your average thumbnails, should I store a second 'thumbnail image' with the sites watermark overlaying it? Or once again, generate this on the fly? All opinions, advice are greatly appreciated!

• How do I add/remove items to a ListView in virtual mode?

  If I'm using a ListView in virtual mode then, as I understand it, the list view only keeps track of a small number of items in the list. As the user scrolls it dynamically retrieves items it needs to show from the virtual list. But what if an item is added or removed from the master list? If an item is added/removed outside of the range of indexes being shown by the list view then I would assume the list view would show the added/missing items when the user scrolls to that index. Is this correct? But what if an item is added/removed from the range of indexes the user is currently viewing? How do I trigger the list view to refresh the items it is currently viewing to show the new/missing items?

• Why is my launcher icon smaller when placed on the Android desktop?

  I have an application built for 1.5 and I am adding higher resolution drawables to support hdpi devices in 1.6 and above. My original application icon is 48x48. I created a second launcher icon that is 72x72 and placed it in a res/drawable-hdpi/ directory. When I install the application on my Nexus One the icon looks good when I view it in the application menu. But when I place it on the desktop it appears small relative to other icons, my guess is I'm seeing the 48x48 version with no scaling. These are my two resource directories: res/drawable/appicon.png res/drawable-hdpi/appicon.png Do I need to do something differently either with my directory structure or my manifest file to get things to display correctly? • Hosting Javascript/CSS file on CDN similar to Google hosting jQuery

  Hello, I am wondering if there are any hosts or if I can host my file (JS & CSS) on Google so that they are cached and load real quick (due to CDN and gzip). A number of my customers use these files and I would prefer if they could somehow include this to file to receive the JS file. Ideally with filename.js?publickey=sdfgsdfg (which will be tied to a particular domain name). The problem is that my hosting needs are very small- only about 100kb. Any suggestions. My problem is that the customers using the JS & CSS file, have no clue about gzipping content or caching (as their shared hosts do not support it), as a result causes the JS/CSS to take forever to load. Am wondering if I can leverage an existing free service, or I do not mind paying either. Thank you for your time.

• How to send/open email attachments from android app?

  I would like to somehow send a file from my app on one android device to my app on another device. This can be done any which way, and I'm open to suggestions if you can tell me how to send over network or something like that. Currently, I'm looking at sending the file as an email attachment, but I haven't found any good documentation on how to do it. I need two things to accomplish this, be able to send my file (stored on sd card or somewhere on device) as an attachment, and have my app recognized by android as the app to open an attachment with the file extention (.lst). Any thoughts? The files will all be fairly small xml text files if that makes a difference.
