It seems to me in my code that I'm doing it herky-jerky all over the place and would love some advice on how to clean it up a bit. What are people doing out there to manage this?

I've fiddled with it for a little bit and realized that there is always a pending GET request "listening" if you will to some sort of update from the server. This appears to be some sort of observer pattern. I was just wondering if this pattern was documented somewhere.

  • CursorLoader, get URI for local database

    I'm a newbie android programmer and I recently followed a tutorial which shows how to create a local SQLite database by using SQLiteDatabase.rawQuery to return a Cursor. I would like to modify my app to use CursorLoader which is apparently a better way to access the database. My problem is the CursorLoader constructor expects a URI to be given. Do I just input "file:///[path to db]"? Seems a bit messy.

    Hi, I was browsing and found good articles about encryption. However, none of them described why the key lenght is important and what exactly the key is used for. My guess is that could work this way: 0101001101010101010 Key: 01010010101010010101 //the longer the key, the longer unique sequence XOR or smth: //result Is this at least a bit how it works or I am missing something?     hi, I am trying to install SQL server 2008 express on windows 7 64 bit machine using the following command: Setup.exe /qs /Action=Install /Features=SQL /InstanceName=XXX /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="Builtin\Administrators" /SQLSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" I can not access the database and get "access denied" error. I narrowed down the issue to the /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="Builtin\Administrators" parameter not working. When I change this parameter value to currnet user or try manual install it works Any idea is appreciated.

    The problem is every time a tab is activated, the cursor jumps to the top of the page, since the tab link points to a div and the page scrolls up to the top of the div. This creates a jumpy effect if the user has scrolled down a bit, while reading tab content. Is there anyway to prevent this?

    JPEG is a lossy compression scheme, so decompression-manipulation-recompression normally reduces the image quality further for each step. Is it possible to rotate a JPEG image without incurring further loss? From what little I know of the JPEG algorithm, it naively seems possible to avoid further loss with a bit of effort. Which common image manipulation programs (e.g. GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, Windows Photo Gallery) and graphic libraries cause quality loss when performing a rotation and which don't?

  • tomcat startup.sh trouble finding JAVA_HOME

    I am a bit puzzled by this strange behavior on CentOs 5.4 when starting Tomcat 6.0 as a service I've added a script at /etc/init.d/tomcat that can start/stop/restart Apache Tomcat 6.0 with user 'tomcat', and registered it as service. The problem with the service is that I am getting a 'Neither the JAVA_HOME nor the JRE_HOME environment variable is defined'. But when type 'sudo -u tomcat echo $JAVA_HOME' I get '/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_22' which is correct since I am using that JDK. What can I do about this?

  • Why is cakephp form input stored in $this->data and POST data stored in $this->params['form'] ?

    the cakephp rest tutorial says that post data should be in $this-data, but I am finding that it is not, but instead inside $this-params['form'] However, when using cakephp form helper in a view, the data is in $this-data. Am I correct to have to check both locations in my controller? It just seems a bit of a waste of extra code. Shouldnt the data appear in one place for whether it came from a rest rest requestor or Cakephp form post? ps im using cakephp 1.3

    I have this bit of code: typedef CComQIPtr<MSXML::IXMLDOMDocument2> XML_DocumentPtr; then inside some class: XML_DocumentPtr m_spDoc; then inside some function: XML_NodePtr rn=m_spDoc->GetdocumentElement(); I cannot find anywhere in the MSDN documentation what that GetDocumentElement() is supposed to do? Can anyone tell me why it doesn't seem to be part of IXMLDOMDocument2 interface? And which interface does have it?
