• Nginx (for static files) and Apache (for dynamic content)?

  So, my entire application runs on apache just fine. However, I want to test how much the requests per second increases if I put all static files through nginx instead. I found this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/869001/how-to-serve-all-existing-static-files-directly-with-nginx-but-proxy-to-apache-t But I have a couple problems. I'm completely new to nginx, so I'm not sure where to put the configuration. (The file is at /etc/nginx/nginx.conf, but I don't know if I just add the code to the bottom or what?) Also, how can I have both servers running at the same time? Is it because they both listen on port 80? Right now I have to stop one to start the other, and that's as far as I've gotten.   I have a spreadsheet where column A displays names. There are a few hundred names and each has a different hyperlink (which links to that person's web page). I want to transfer those hyperlinks across to a different column which has different text in and no hyperlinks. Not every cell in column A has a hyperlink. There are groups of cells merged together, so A2:A7 has one link, A8:A13 the next, A9:10 the next (i.e. number of cells merged is not uniform). e.g. where A2:A7 reads "Bob" and links to www.bob.com, I want I2:I7, which reads, "Smith," and does not link to anything, to link to www.bob.com. I want to do this repeatedly, copying links from A2:A579 into I2:I579. The information is copied from a table within a web page, and that is where the hyperlinks come from.

Examples of programs that demonstrate the type of search I'm trying to accomplish are Notational Velocity for MacOS, Resop for windows or SimpleNote for the web. These apps do an instant or incremental search in the files of a specific directory and make it easy/fast to narrow down the file you are looking for or create a new file. I use both but would rather live in one editor.(that being VIM) Is there some plug in that would do this?

  I am using a version of Ms Office of 2010, it was a beta version of public domain (I dont recall the name, but I believe it was called Blue version or something like that). I usually make my documents using the MS Word and then saving it like a pdf file using the function to publish as a pdf file within Word. The problem that I have is that some people are converting my documents into text, putting their name on it, and credited my work to them; so I would like to know if there is a way to: protect with a password the editing of my document protect it from converting into txt, with a password if its possible maybe but a digital signature in which it says my name as an author I want that the people who access it can only read it, and nothing more. I am using MS Word 2010 and Foxit Pdf (an old version), I usually do not use Adobe Acrobat. Thanks

• How can I convert an ordinary text file to a .csv file, and import it to Excel?

  I have a group of names and addresses that I would like to import into Outlook. At the moment I have imported them into Excel, but all names and addresses are in one long entry. All are already separated by a comma. How can I get Excel to select each "value" and move it to a separate cell? Edit: I had already tried taking a text file and saving it as a .csv file. However, all contacts load into a single cell. I am using Excel 2003. Thanks.

• How do I automatically connect my client to an ODBC data source on another machine with dynamic IP?

  At the customer's place, we've got a postgres DB on a server, and a few clients. We connect them through ODBC-drivers, and all machines run windows (usually XP). Now we had a few annoying issues: The client "forgets" some flags in the ODBC drivers, such as ByteA as LO. Every time anything changes, we have to reset that, and type in the password, and sometimes even the IP of the server. On x64 machines running Windows 7, configuring this is a pain as the system settings dialogue will only show 64-bit connections by default. And most importantly: If the server changes IP because the customer restarts or replaces a switch, all connections are lost. Annoyingly, this cannot be fixed with just correcting the IP, but rather, we have to check every single place (even hba_conf) because all the settings magically disappear. Our customers often are very small companies, where "server" means "that one PC in the other room", and not "Oracle mainframe in the dungeon", so we don't want to rely on them not restarting switches. Is there a better way than to rely on these really unstable settings? Are these settings somewhere in a file which I could edit manually, to make fixing it easier?

  When Windows 8 color setting are set to a very dark color, such as black or navy blue, the title bar text and the minimize/maximize buttons are nearly invisible. This makes dark colors difficult to work with. In Windows 7 there was an advanced color options, this is gone in 8. The registry keys associated with this seem to still be present, but they have no effect. Is there a way to change this? Or a third party application that can do it? I don't want to use the ugly high contrast theme, I want to use the nice Win 8 theme with a dark color.

The error is: Server Error 405 - HTTP verb used to access this page is not allowed. The page you are looking for cannot be displayed because an invalid method (HTTP verb) was used to attempt access. How can I accomplish this? Background: I'm using apps.facebook.com to hit my hosted facebook app and facebook sends HTTP POST now through to the iFrame hosting my app. This facebook behaviour has been around for a while but it's being forced now. In turn this forces me to make stuff available to the POST verb.

• Application or plugin for turning screenshots into searchable text?

  It's a common practice in our company that people take screenshots of any software error situation they get into, and then they paste the screenshots in mail messages and/or Word documents that get sent and forwarded back and forth. I have lots of stuff like this in my Outlook mail archives, and the problem with it is, the screenshots aren't searchable, because they're just dumb images as far as Outlook or Windows Search are concerned. Sometimes I edit the original mail messages and type the text (typically an error message) from the screenshot into the message, but quite rarely, because it's slow and prone to typing errors. Is there a program or Outlook or Windows plugin that would OCR and index images in the Outlook mail archives, so the image contents would become indexable?

  As a Web-Developer what is the most efficient (automated) way to connect to a Virtual Machine (VM) running a development webserver from it’s Host Machine (the machine running the VM) when you do not have control over the networks (home, Startbucks, work, etc) you are connected to? Currently I start my VM (a VirtualBox VM running CentOS), run ifconfig to determine the VM’s current IP. I then take that IP and map it my Host machine’s host file so that I can access the VM’s webserver from the Host. I feel that this is not an efficient way to connect to my VM’s webserver because each time I connect to a new network (a few times a day) I need to repeat the IP look up and host file update, and sometimes restart the VM's network service.

• When Typing on my mac the cursor moves/deletes/replaces text.

  Help! I don't know what is happening, with my computer (Macbook Black OSX 1ha0.6.6) but recently whenever I am typing my cursor suddenly moves in the middle of my frase or paragraph, deleting text, replacing words or just closing applications. I don't know what might be the cause but it's driving me crazy. I have disabled typinator (which had worked fine for a couple of months) and looked through the keybindings in SystemPreferencesKeyboardKeyboard Shortcuts. But for have not been able to find any answers. It happens in all apps that require typing. Textmate, Chrome, FIrefox, Texedit, Mail. Does anybody know if there is a way I can review all keyboard shortcuts, to see if the issue lies there or any suggestions? Thanking you dearly Dave

• Excel - Dynamic reference based on the row I paste into?

  I have a simple, oft-used formula that I paste into spreadsheets I receive. It looks like this: =IF(AND(D8="COMPLETE",E8=""),A8,"") It looks in D8 for the word "COMPLETE" and checks that E8 is blank. If both conditions are fulfilled it grabs the contents of A8. It works fine. The only problem with this is that I don't always paste it into row 8. Every spreadsheet is different. I usually end up spending a few seconds making the formula fit the current spreadsheet I'm working on by dragging the cell references to the appropriate row. Hence, my question: Is there a way to make an absolute row reference based on whatever row I paste into? For example, if I paste the above formula into a cell in row 25, the formula would automatically look like this: =IF(AND(D25="COMPLETE", E25=""), A25, "")

• Cannot Copy Pictures w/ text or w/o from web pages anymore word in office starter 2010

  This is something new. I had been able to copy text and pictures from websites into a microsoft word office starter 2010. I have gone into advanced settings to no avail. I have verified that under paste special html is selected. I have reviewed the help sections and questions and they all tell me to select html under paste special but again it isn't working either. Also I used to have 3 formatting options under paste and am now only having two options. I did have a problem with my computer last night and I am wondering if something re-set itself..will you help?

• What function should I use in Excel for searching a (multiple) text string?

  The title is a bit unclear, but I'll be explaining it now for better clarity. I have this: When I type in the Input field, I'd like Excel to show me the result in the Output field. For example, if I write Four, I'd like it to output 20, or if I write one of the other three words, then 12. The problem is that... I can't make it to work. The formula I tried is "=CERCA(C2;G:G;H:H)" (cerca means search), so I'm saying "Take what I write in the cell C2, search through the column G and give me what you find from the column H", but the result is always N.D. (Not available). I've tried other combinations and: Text strings, does not work; Single numbers, works (if I search 1, it says 2, which is what I expect); multiple numbers, does not work (if I search 4, nothing happens). What function should I use?

• Can I capture input text with the P?roblem Steps Recorder on Windows 7?

  I have recently been introduced to the Problem Steps Recorder on Windows 7. It's great. Trouble is, it does not recorder keyboard input. When I look at the output of a recording all I see it User keyboard input in "Untitled - Notepad" [... Backspace Backspace Backspace Backspace Backspace ...] So I know the user typed SOMETHING and then deleted five characters. Is there a way to get the PSR to record what was inputted? Or is that a security issue? This isn't a big deal for notepad, but for custom apps it would be nice to know exactly what a user typed into a text box.

  I have a RetrieveBlob.aspx that gets some query string variables and returns an asset. Eeach url corresponds to a unique asset. In the RetrieveBlob.aspx a Cache Profile is set. In Web.Config the profile looks like (under system.web tag: <caching> <outputCache enableOutputCache="true" /> <outputCacheSettings> <outputCacheProfiles> <add duration="14800" enabled="true" varyByParam="*" name="AssetCacheProfile" /> </outputCacheProfiles> </outputCacheSettings> </caching> Ok, this works fine. When I put a breakpoint in the code behind of RetrieveBlob.aspx, it gets triggered the first time, and all the other times not.   I have a VB6 app. It consists of a flexgrid. I have code to allow the user to press the up or down arrow key to switch rows in the grid. When the down arrow key is pressed the cursor is placed at the end of the text in the next row, but when the Up arrow key is pressed the cursor is placed in the middle of the text of the previous row. Anybody have any explantion for this. • Jquery query XML document where clause

  I have an XML document that I want to search a specific date and get information for just that date. In my JQuery I've tried to do 'Where month = 1' and get all the days info for that month, however that JQuery brings back days for every month. How do I do a where clause with JQuery/JavaScript on a XML document? thanks.
